PCI-SDD DRIVE

Hello everybody,
i work on a Mac Pro Quad core 2x2.26 GHz with 16 GB ram 1066 MHz DDR3. I work on very large video files and images (multi layered...). In few words my mac is daily reading/writing a very large amount of GB.
Processors are always responding fine but i clearly see that the all the delays are related to the HD (i have 2x2TB 7200rpm and 2x1.5TB 5400rpm hds) every time i'm opening, reading, saving etc..
I'm thinking to buy a SSD HD but since the Sata interface is part of the bottle neck, i was searching for something different till i found these PCI cards that have SSD on top and that seem to speed up the computer in terms of data reading/writing, much more than on a SSD Sata.
Said that, I'm not at all expert on PCI cards and if anybody could suggest me the what kind of product could be fine on my Mac Pro, I thank him/her in advance

All of the iPhoto etc have a preference on where the library is located, and it can be elsewehre.
Same for itunes music.
The entire home account can also be changed, unlock the user account control panel and control + click 'advanced options' to another hard drive volume.
People using SSD do one or both of the above all the time, and I've also had my home accounts on another drive (just leave a small default as well on the boot drive if needed but inactive).
And the topic of moving the home account - has been written and discussed endlessly over the years.

As for that PCI Express SSD, first consider other ways to spend $2000, though that amount use to be basic setup fee for SCSI arrays of 8 or more drives + controller(s) and cases. There are good SATA controllers and external cases. Even with RAID6. Also, look around and see what other video creation workstation users have.

PCI-e driver required?

I have a new MSI G31 mobo with an E7400 processor which I now have operational.
After installing my first PCI-e card (a GeForce 8400 graphics adapter) the device was not recognized.
Before returning this card I was wondering where the drivers for the PCI-e bus are coming from. I don't see any question marks when I look at the System Hardware list.
There was no listing of a PCI-e driver with the MSI Drivers CD...but I did see a PCI-e folder under the network/realtek path on the Driver CD.
Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

What brand/model? Does it have its own power connector?
Does the onboard video function work properly?

Nigpib-linux PCI-GPIB driver does not work on RedHat 8.0

The PCI-GPBI driver for linux (nigpib-linux) can't be installed on Linux RedHat 8.0. The first error is a reference to "malloc.h" having to be replaced by "slab.h". Then, the module compiles, but it has to be loaded with the "force" option, by replacing all instances of "insmod" in the "INSTALL" script by "insmod -f". When loading there is an error message that the kernel is compiled with gcc 3.2, but the module with gcc 2.9, and this is known "not to work". One can load the kernel module with "insmod -f", but when running "ibconf", "insmod" is used when saving the configuration, so there is an error message again. The solution to this problem is probably to compile the source code for the driver (supplied by NI a
s a binary) with gcc 3.2. It would be so much easier if NI opensourced the entire driver.
Can NI compile a binary against gcc 3.2 on RedHat 8.0??

been available since Jan 2003. Here is a link:

yes you can migrate with both the SSD and HDD connected internally to your desktop. SanDisk offers a one time use cloning software for free in the SSD Dashboard. Use the link below to install the SSD Dahboard and on the Tool tab there will be an option for Apricorn cloning software.

System Recovery disks not installing on new SDD drive

Hi
I have upgraded from the original HDD drive to SDD drive.
I firstly cloned the old drive and installed the image but then windows updates would not work.
Looking at all forums and tried everything I read but updates still didn't work.
Finally formatted the drive and then used the original system restore disks that work fine on the old hard drive but Windows end up retsarting continuously after all 3 disks installed .
It is trying to finish off the installation but then gets and error and restarts and just loops over and over.
Is it something to do with the 4 k sectors?
Do I need other drivers?
How do I factory re-install my Windows 7 on the new SSHD drive?

Usually the Toshiba Recovery disks should install the Toshiba image on the new HDD or SSD drive and the unit should boot properly.
To be honest, Im not quite sure why the notebook keeps restarting after the installation.
But I assume it has something to do with the partitions and partitions sizes.
Fact is that Toshiba recovery disks would format the HDD (or SSD) and would create the same partitions and partitions sizes.
In case the system installation would not function using the Recovery disks, I would recommend you trying to install the system using the Microsoft clean Windows CD. The essential drivers could be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page.

Additional Internal SDD Drive Possible for X201?

I have an X201 with the 500GB HDD. Is it possible to add an SDD drive internally, in addition to the 500GB HDD?
I don't want to replace to 500GB HDD drive and definitely don't want to reinstall Windows 7 on a SDD.
I do want a faster drive for processing, as in opening and saving, large (500MB-2GB) Photoshop files. The 8GB of memory is plenty, but the drive access is slow. I'm hoping I can put my Photoshop files on an internal SDD.
btw, I've rejected the option of adding a USB 3.0 Express Card to connect to an external SDD. I think I'll lose too much time going through the USB.

you can plug in a ssd drive into the expresscard, but that is not a bootable device. Other than that not really.
X220 is capable of accepting mSATA SSD and normal SSD, so you can get two drive running.
For X201, you would need a ultrabase x200 if you want to put another drive to the laptop. i.e. put the platter hdd into ultrabay slim slot, and put the ssd into the main hdd slot.

Terredo Tunneling adapter driver and Ralink PCI Adapter driver problem

Have HP A-I-O, running Windows 8 and getting errors ref. Terredo Tunneling Adapter driver and Ralink PCI Adapter driver problem. Occassionally lose internet or wireless mouse and kebouad. Troubleshooting reloaded drivers for both but did NOT resolve the problem.
Any ideas? Wouold Refresh work? If so, should I just load Windows 8.1?

Problems with Ethernet controller and PCI device driver on Satellite L30-10X

Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Russia.
Just few days ago I bought Satellite L30-10X with W Vista on board. My opinion, that this OS does't very good on this computer, so I install W XP.
I have some problems with drivers. At first, I dont know what model I have:PSL30 or PSL33? I download all drivers for both models. But, after installation, computer doen't find drivers for Ethernet controller and PCI device...

Satellite L30-10X belongs to the PSL33E series. This number can be found on the label placed on the bottom of the unit!
You have to choose this number from the driver download form to get the compatible XP drivers.
I dont know why you are not able to install the LAN driver. Ive got the same notebook with Vista and Ive installed the XP and all drivers run fine.
I assume you have installed the drivers in wrong order. Please take the look in the Toshiba installation instruction txt file. In this order you have to install the driver! Its important.
I think you should install the XP again to ensure the clean registry and then download and install the compatible XP drivers like mentioned in the installation instruction file.

A215-S4747 Unable to Locate and Install PCI Device Driver

This is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 32-bit AMD processor running Windows Vista Home Premium.
I have repeatedly tried to locate the PCI driver by using the discs that accompanied the PC, locating the correct driver on Toshiba Support, and though the device manufacturer is "unknown". I have attempted to write and get a response from the chipset manufacturer - but they claim their is no way for them to know and to contact Toshiba.
So, how do you solve this problem? (PC troubleshooting responses):
PCI Device - failed
OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller - failed
Went to locate: C:\DRVSTEMP - does not exist.
My devices:
Satellite A215-S4747 32-bit AMD processor, Vista Home Premium
Satellite P72-A7200 Intel Core I7 4700MQ CPU @ 2.4GHz, Windows 8.1

Let's try this driver and see if resolves the problem. Download this file, double click to install, reboot after installation and test:

If this doesn't work, click on 'Start' -> type in: system info -> click on 'System Information' -> in the left-hand pane click on 'Components' -> in the left-hand pane click on 'Problem Devices' -> in the right-hand pane, under the 'PNP Device ID' column, give us the 4 digit VEN number, and the 4 digit DEV number. Like in the below example: VEN_8086 and DEV_4232.
Let us know what happens or give us the above numbers.

Custom PCI Device Driver for Phar Lap

Hi all,
I have deployed Labview Real-Time to a compact-PCI card in a cPCI chassis (non-NI brand for several unavoidable reasons). I need to do high-speed communication with another card in the chassis at minimum rates of 20 MB/s read, 4MB/s write - but preferably much higher. After extensive testing, we believe that NI VISA is incapable of maintaining those speeds in our system, and it barely maintains half those (side note: the hardware is more than capable as we have deployed embedded software that easily achieved the desired data rates).
Another engineer is responsible for finding ways to optimize VISA. The purpose of this post is to explore the option of writing a custom kernel driver for Phar Lap 2013 in C to handle communication with the other card. I have experience in writing windows kernel drivers, but the NI documentation for Phar Lap is severely lacking in this area.
So the overarching questions are:
1- Is it possible to do this?
2- If so, is it possible to use LabWindows/CVI to do this?

Problems with Tru64 UNIX 5.1b PCI-GPIB driver development

I am using your NI488.DDK product to develop a PCI-GPIB device driver for Tru64 UNIX 5.1b3. I have experience porting other device driver from 4.x to 5.1b and thought that this would not be too hard. The driver that I have developed loads and configures ok. It allows for the IBFIND of /dev/gpib0 minor #255 to work fine because a bus table is built for it during the probe/attach. When I try an IBFIND on /dev/gpib_dev/dev1 I get an error from ni_Cp2BusPtr for minor #51 because no table is created for the devx devices during driver initialization. I don't see where this was done in the example ib.c code provided for Tru64 Unix 4.x, am I missing something?

This is really an update to my original posting for those of you who may have similar concerns.
The source code provided as part of the NI488DDK kit is not really a fully functional driver with the same capabilities as they provided in the device driver that they devloped for Tru64 UNIX 3.x and 4.x. The the "ib" commands supported by the DDK driver is a subset of the entire ni488 suite. None of the device specific "ib" command are supported, neither is ibask. Device commands are written to the bus as character strings that contain device addresses and command.
