  • PCI video capture cards needed for mdd...

    Hi guys,
just want to get opions about pci video capture cards out there that can be used on a MDD running either 9.2.2 or X Tiger.
I basically need to transfer old analog Hi8 video to DV format. and the default card doesn't have video in/out.
I don't might purchasing software that may be required... either old or new, or if iMovie is enough just tell me if it is required to support the HD.
    thanks

Be careful to get a money back guarantee on any Avid Video capture cards.  I assisted a wedding videographer who spent seventeen thousand dollars on an elaborate capture and editing system based on NuBus cards for 8100 PPCs and the company never got it to work properly without constant crashing.  I am sure that Avid has gone on to produce some quality equipment based on lessons learned in the 1990s but that 8100 generation of cards was worthless.
I am interested in doing the same thing you are looking for so I will post back with what I find.  Just avoid being the guinea pig for some company who does not have the details worked out.

  • PCI Video Capture Cards for PowerPC?

Hi, I have a few PowerPC macs and I want to record some videogame game play via svideo (composite if svideo isn't an option) on them via a PCI capture card. Can anyone give me a few recommendations for cards to purchase? I do not want a USB or Firewire capture device, and it needs to be real time because I would be playing it through my monitor as it records. Preferably OS9 AND OSX compatible, though either or is perfectly fine. I don't care what format it records in or the compression, as I can deal with that later. Thanks.

  • Has anyone has developed a driver which uses labview to control an EPIX(R)D PCI Digital Video Capture Board?

We have an EPIX(R) D PCI Digital Video Capture Board from EPIX Inc. worked with Image Pro Plus and a
Kodak Megaplus 1.4 CCD Camera. This camera is an old model with Camera Control Unit. Now we use Excel Macro works with all of these software and hardware and the whole system works excellent. Now we intend to update the software to Labview 6.1, IMAQ vision builder and IMAQ vision. But we didn't find the driver to let Labview work with EPIX(R) D PCI Digital Video Capture Board. I have contactd Epix Inc. They said some customers have developed their own driver for labview and it works fine. But this company doesn't support this driver. It will be appreciated if anyone ca
n provide this driver for us. Thank you very much.

George. You probably don't have many options with the Epix board. However, if your Epix software enables you to save files to disk, then you can open them from LabVIEW and process them with Vision or Vision Builder.
Another option is to contact Graftek (www.graftek.com) or ImageMill (www.imagemill-tech.com). They have created drivers for third party image acquisition boards in the past and they may have one for your Epix board.
A third option, of course, is to upgrade your Epix board to an NI IMAQ board. Your sales contact within NI may even be able to give you a discount on the trade in, but I can't guarantee it.
    Good luck!

  • 4600 video capturing stuttering on picture using mpeg

    Good afternoon.
I'm new to video capturing but seem to have a bit of a problem. I can capture fine in the bundled WinProducer when I use the AVI setting but it generates some rather large files, 300meg/minute or so. When i set it to capture at the mpeg setting it does the audio fine but the picture is stop/start, plays a second pauses a while plays a bit more etc while the audio merrily carries on without a problem.
Would anyone have an idea on what I might have set wrong etc please?
    Thanks.

    Good Morning.
I can tell you many things about your problem:
1- what chipsets do you have??
AMD (above 760 (762 & 768  ) and Intel (almost everything above 815) will work fine (smooth i´d say), but ALI, SIS and VIA won´t do the job.
2- You have to pay attention to the  encoder card you are using ( if using one)
Matrox capturers are very conflictive  X(  (so don´t use matrox) instead use another video capturer
3- How much memory are using?
    above 512 Mb should work
4- have you ever considered forming an array?
it will increase your data I/O
5- pay attention to the order of the cards on the pci slots
Some cards have to be in a specific order.
6- what OS are you using???
W2k pro & Wxp pro are good for the job you are intending to (you should think to move to one of them)
7-If you want to have good video quality, you must think in buying an encoder, no matters how fast your Geforce is, at the end it won´t substitute a video encoder card
) (hope this can help you with your problem)
    good luck!

  • PC video capture card - Not Applicable?

When I was a Comcast analog customer, I purchased a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 video capture card. The unit worked great converting my Media Center PC back into a DVR when my original Dell equipment All-In-Wonder capture card died.
When I was considering switching to Fios, Andrea S. at Verizon told me that there was software I could download so that my vid-cap card would work. I assume she meant that it would unscramble the signal for viewing or recording. Once Fios was installed, Andrea didn't answer my emails any more and recent inquires to Encore about any other devices (like DCT700 or something) have been fruitless.
I hate to take no for an answer!
Isn't there some way for my PC to record Fios video? I would think the most un-elegant solution would be to rent another STB and take the analog output to my PC but then I couldn't program channel changes, etc. There must be something out there that I'm missing.

Any PC card with a QAM tuner can record the SD and HD locals (and music channels) from Verizon FiOS.  Other digital channels such as USA, TNT, SciFi, FX, ESPN, and HBO cannot be tuned because they are encrypted.
My favorite PC QAM tuner is the HDHomerun ($160) because it has two ATSC/QAM tuners and excellent, cross-platform software support.  It works very well with Vista Media Center.  If you really want an internal solution, take a look at the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 ($120); this PCIe card has less software support, and may require the Vista Media Center TV pack.  Both of these solutions can record two different SD or HD locals from FiOS at once.  Once again, the QAM tuners in these products can only record unencrypted channels, which consist of channels 1-50 plus the HD locals and music channels.  The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 also has an s-video input to record the s-video (SD) output from a Verizon set-top box.
If you want to record high-definition directly from the Motorola HD STB, you could buy the Hauppauge HD PVR ($200).  This is a USB device that connects to your computer; it records the HD component video output and optical audio output from another device (such as the FiOS HD STB) to your computer's hard drive.  That product was used to create this video, as well as most of the high-definition PS3 and Xbox360 gameplay videos on Youtube.  In my experience, this product can be a bit buggy, especially when recording Dolby Digital.  It is more reliable if you will settle for stereo sound.  Picture quality is better than you see in the Youtube videos -- Youtube recompresses and degrades quality -- but not quite as good the original output.
When I want a program on my computer, I simply download the SD/HD recording from my TivoHD's hard drive.  I then edit and/or burn to DVD or Blu-ray disk.  The ability to download recordings directly from the DVR is one of the features unique to TiVo. Screenshot:

  • Need video capture with overlay

I am looking for a video capture card or camera that I can use to capture video of a sample under test.  Labview would be controlling the test and I would need to have the test parameters displayed as a text overlay on the captured video in real time.
What sort of capture device can I start/stop with Labview and also insert a text overlay as frames are captured?  I would also prefer the frames to be built into some standard video format like AVI as they are captured.
I don't need to do any "vision" processing on the video. I just want to capture and save.   I would like to capture using a firewire megapixel camera for higher resolution if possible.

    Hi BDS,
From what I understand, you are looking for these hardware and software
    capabilities:
    - Use FireWire camera and/or framegrabber card
    - Insert text overlay
    - Create AVIs
If you would like to do image acquisition with a FireWire camera in LabVIEW, you
will need to use the NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 driver that comes bundled in the Vision Acquisition
Software.  You can either plug the camera in directly to a computer
with a built-in FireWire port or use the PCI-8252 FireWire interface device
(which comes with the NI-IMAQ for IEEE 1394 driver).  For information on
other framegrabber card options (for non-FireWire cameras), please see the NI Vision Hardware website.
The functions for creating AVIs are included in the Vision Acquisition
Software.  The text overlays, however, are functions only found in our
    image processing software, the Vision
Development Module.  All these sites can be found on the main NI Machine Vision page; let me know if you
have any more questions after viewing  this information.

  • [SOLVED] Video capture hardware

I'm having some issues getting this card to play nice with Linux. A couple of the NewEgg reviews say it works well with Linux / MythTV (even though it doesn't have a TV tuner) but I haven't had such luck.
When I follow the guides and wiki pages I haven't been able to get past the part that sets up the channels and other PVR stuff. Are there any guides out there that show how to do simple video capture?
I know that's not much info but I'm not really sure where I'm stuck? I'm fairly confident the card *will* work, I'm just not sure how to get there.

I figured it out about an hour after I made the previous post.
I poked around more in the output of dmesg and from this:
    # dmesg | grep cx
    I found the following:
    cx88/0: cx2388x v4l2 driver version 0.0.6 loaded
cx88[0]: Your board has no valid PCI Subsystem ID and thus can't
cx88[0]: be autodetected. Please pass card=<n> insmod option to
cx88[0]: workaround that. Redirect complaints to the vendor of
cx88[0]: the TV card. Best regards,
    cx88[0]: -- tux
After looking through the rest of the output of dmesg I determined that the card number for my particular card was 14. Armed with that I did the following:
    # modprobe -r cx8800
    # modprobe -r cx88xx
to remove the modules, then reinserted them:
    # modprobe -i cx88xx card=14
    # modprobe -i cx8800
Then I fired up mythtv-setup again and did the following:
    * Capture Card Setup: set to "Analog V4L capture card" for the card type and it now popped up with the right information under Probed info
    * Video Sources: set Listings grabber to "No grabber"
    * Input Connections: Used Composite1 from the card I setup in the previous step and then used "Scan for channels" and it crashed on me, but when I restarted mythtv-setup it worked so I'm not really sure what happened. I set the starting channel to 2 and used defaults for the other screens.
I had to then setup the database and start the mysql daemon like it says in the MythTV guides on the ArchWiki.
Then I started mythbackend in a terminal
    $mythbackend
Then I ran mythfrontend from another terminal
    $ mythfrontend
And voila when I went to "Watch TV" I was able to see what was playing on my camcorder.
Anyway, kind of long and confusing / disorganized I'm sure, but hopefully it'll someone along the way.

  • PowerMac G4 MDD Video Capture Help

Hello, I have in my possession a B&W PowerMac G3 tower that is the educational AV edition that includes the Xclaim VR Pro PCI graphics card/capture card. It works only under OS9 and using Apple Video Player application. When I am done recording via either the Svideo or Composite ports (the only input ports on it), it encodes super slow, as it is a G3 at 350MHZ. This is just background information to what I need help with.
Anyway, I also own a PowerMac G4 MDD dual 1.0GHZ that runs OS 9.2.2 and 10.4.11 on separate hard drives. I wanted to speed up the video capture so I popped the Xclaim VR Pro into the top PCI slot of my MDD and removed the current Radeon 9000 Pro in the AGP slot (only when recording). I installed the latest ATI drivers for both cards here: Gona
So the the video capture works fine, but my main problem here is that I can't keep the audio input to stay on Line In, so it records sound. I can click Line In, but as soon as I let go of the mouse, it reverts back to None. Very frustrating. I would use the Apple Video Player application if I had it, but aperantly MDD's version of OS 9.2.2 does not include it. Can someone help me please? I appreciate any input on this matter. Please do not suggest that I buy a new Mac or a different capture device, as I am not looking to do that if I dont have to. Thank you.

I used to have an XClaim VR 128 card. I will try to look around for software on the web. In the meantime, here's an excerpt from a page on xlr8yourmac.com. I hope it helps.
OS 9.1 manages audio input differently than previous OS versions. This seems to prevent some applications (including Apple's own Apple Video Player) from changing the source.
For SoundEdit to record, I find I have to set the input source using either the control strip or the control panel BEFORE I launch the program. I also can't seem to get the "Recording Options" dialog to come up (nothing happens when I select the menu option), but since I don't use the program regularly, I may just be doing something wrong.
    (reply)
try booting with a clean OS 9.1 install and set the audio source prior to running SoundEdit.
Several other readers noted they also had SoundEdit problems in OS9.1. (Some later wrote to say this did not solve their problems.)

  • Detecting Video Capture Devices without Installing JMF

    Hi All,
I want to detect the video capture devices, without installing the JMF.
I had included the jmf (windows version) in lib path in netbeans ide. I am able to detect the audio capture device. But unable to detect the video capture devices. But if I install the JMF, I am able to detect the Video Capture devices in My system. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Vinoth Kumar.

YES! Please take a look at SIP Communicator project. They have all what u want.
The main idea is copy all .dll files to System or System32 (Please check files which JMF will copy to ur computer and where).
U need to have jmf.jar and sound.jar too ( maybe more) in your computer.
Your program should have DirectSoundAuto.java, JavaSoundAuto.java, JavaSoundDetector.java, JMFInit.java. Those files are in JMStudio source code. They are used to detect all capture devices and register it to JMF, but wait !!! where they will be saved? In order to save information about capture devices which are detected, you should create "jmf.properties" file in the same location with jmf.jar.Therefore, u should modify the JMFInit.java so it can check if the "jmf.properties" exists. If it's not, you have to create it.
Check SIP Communicator at Folder "media" then "device". They have modified those files I mentioned above and created some new files to SC can detect more devices.

  • Video capture driver for MSI GeForce 2 Pro video card

    Hi,
I am in need of the nVidia WDM video capture driver for my Geforce 2 Pro video card. Model #M-8831. I was able to download it from the MSI/TW website over a year ago just fine. My computer crashed from a game bug a couple of months ago and MSI/TW does not list the capture driver I need any longer. I did email the company asking for help with no response back yet (after 2 weeks). You people may be my last hope.
I do have the cd that came with the video card, but I've never been able to install the capture driver from it. There is a button to install it, but it never gets loaded. I've tried browsing the cd and also tried installing it using the windows wizards with zero results. My only successful install was from the MSI home website.
If you need more information, please let me know.

  • Does the 6600GT-VTD128 support video capture?

    Hi,
I recently purchased an MSI 6600GT-VTD128 video card.  The product information seems to suggest that the card has video input capabilities, and there is an adapter that plugs into the card that has a number of connections, one of which is labeled S-Video in.  However, I haven't been able to get any video capture to work.
Does the card actually support this functionality?  If not, what are the video input connections for?  If so, is there some documentation as to how to set it up?
So far, I tried installing the video capture drivers that come with the card.  I checked the manual.  I checked the MSI web site FAQs.  And I searched the forums.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

Thanks Richard.  Yes I do have a breakout cable like that.  Actually, I described it in my original message.  So, I am guessing from your message that you believe that the card should have the capability to capture video.
In my original message, I asked if there was any documentation on setting up the card for video capture.  The manual does not describe the procedure, nor does the MSI web site.
There are drivers on the CD that claim to be for video capture, but they had no effect when I installed them.  In fact, there appears to be no way to tell whether the drivers were actually installed successfully.
If anyone out there has successfully used this card for video capture, please let me know.
