PCIe 2.0 slot

Hi there,
I'm trying to find out whether or not I have a PCIe 2.0 slot, I think I need it for a new gpu I've been looking at. I've got an HPE 300z with the factory motherboard still in it.

This is the motherboard for your PC.  Make sure that the slot next to the PCI-E x16 is open if you are planning on installing a double wide card.  The GTX 460 will require a bigger PSU in the range of 500-550 watts depending of the 12+ volt bus amperge rating.
How to replace a power supply.
How to replace a video card.
You should open up your PC and measure the physical dimensions of your power supply.  Here is a list of things to consider:
Specifications
Total wattage - important
12+ volt amperage rating - important
Modular - not mandatory but I like the flexibility
Warranty
i7 and SLI ready
Efficiency rating
Cost
Physical size -- standard ATX PSU is 5.5" by 5.9" by 3.4" give or take a few tenths
www.newegg.com has lots of PSUs choices.  Corsair, OCZ, Rosewill, Thermaltake.....

  • PCI 2.1 SLot on K7T Turbo Limited Edition?

I'm about to get a Firewire Card but I'm not sure whether my MB :   K7T Turbo Limited Edition (MS-6330 v3.X) has a PCI 2.1 slot. I haven't found it in manual either. Can anybody help?
    Thanks
    minurec

    Welcome!
My Turbo2 manual doesn't specify either, but specs on MSI site for mine shows 32 bit PCI 2.2, usually backward compatible. Your MB is just one very short edition back, and I bet your slots are probably the same and 2.1 compatible. MSI shows yours as 32 bit, but w/o the #version. To my memory the 2.1 standard predates our MBs by a couple of years or more. I think you're safe to go.

  • MSI Z77A-GD65 1st PCI-E x16 slot is unusable

Today I spent some time assembling my new system based on the Z77A-GD65.  It's a bummer but I think I have to RMA the mainboard.  My graphics card (MSI Twin Frozr II GTX 570) isn't recognized in the 1st PCI-E x16 slot (where it should be installed), but it does work in the second PCI-E x16 slot.  I've moved it back and forth a few times, and testing results are consistent.  When installed in the 1st x16 slot, the graphics card's two fans are running, but the card is "MIA".  What a poopy upgrade experience.
I'm thinking I may just buy another GD65 (assuming most of them have working PCI-E slots & I was just unlucky), sell the 1st one on eBay after RMA is complete, and just take the (relatively minor) financial loss.  I don't want extended downtime.
Any suggestions before I ship this board away on Monday?
    Thanks.

I was aware of that possibility but was discounting it.  I just spent some time pulling out the board to have a good look at the CPU socket (with a magnifying glass and everything).  I did see one pin that was slightly off, and I very carefully tipped it back into place.  An out-of-place pin sticks out pretty clearly which is helpful.  After reassembly, unfortunately the first PCI-E x16 slot is still unusable.  It was a good suggestion (probably my only hope to avoid RMA), but sadly I think I can't make this board work properly.  RMA seems inevitable at this point :(
    Thanks for your replies though.

  • Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 PCI (4 RAM Slots) - want to upgrade to 8GB?

My computer is a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 PCI (4 RAM Slots)
Is there any way I can break out of the 4GB RAM limit into the world of 8GB RAM without having to buy a newer computer. I need to open a large 4.5GB TGA file in After Effects (48000 pixels x 36000 pixels).
Failing that, is there an application like RAM doubler I could use temporarily to get me though this job?
Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 PCI (4 RAM Slots)   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Currently have 4GB RAM installed

If there is not enough RAM, OSX will use space on the disk drive, so the amount of RAM should not limit the file size an application can handle, but speed will be reduced. 32-bit addressing can restrict the use of huge files, but there are ways that applications can get around it (at the expense of lower speed).
If After Effects has a file size limit, extra RAM will not help A later version (maybe using 64-bit mode) may handle larger files. 64-bit applications can be written to run in Tiger on G5s, but will be easier to write when Leopard is released.
You may be able to use some other application, such as Photo Shop, or Graphics Converter, to extract part of the TGA file, or reduce its size by changing its resolution, so you can use the result in After Effects.

  • Radeon 7950 wont work in primary Z77 Mpower PCI 3.0 Slot?! Help!

I bought an MSI Z77 Mpower motherboard with I7 3770K and HIS Radeon 7950 ICEq Boost Edition 3gb back in January.
Ever since I built the computer it WILL NOT boot up with the GPU card in the first/primary PCI 3.0 slot of the motherboard, it just startsup with a black screen, no bios, post or anything. Just a black screen with the fans going.
This card will boot up perfectly fine in the middle PCIe slot. But it runs slower in this slot, at PCIe x2 3.0.
I had the card RMA'd at the time and it came back as fine, and it works in my brothers computer too.
It just WILL not work in the first PCIe slot on the Z77 Mpower.
My much older Radeon 4850 works perfectly fine in the primary/first PCIe slot, and computer boots and works as normal.
So it seems to be a Z77 mpower - HD 7950 incompatibility?
Can anyone advise on this because its doing my head in?!
BIOS is flashed to the latest version as of yesterday and still no joy.
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'd love to swap to Z77-Mpower, but it doesn't have any PCI slot needed for my M-Audio sound card ;-)
I forgot to mention when we've been checking hardware: if I were you, I'd swap HIS 7950 to another 7950 (Asus, MSI, preferably Sapphire, whatsoever) to check compatibility instead of selling out motherboard. It's great piece of hardware, so I'd blame graphic card first than motherboard - for incompatibility. HIS is one of the cheapest vendors (not the cheapest, like VTX3D for example), so maybe it was a reason.
    It's a proof that M-Power works with other 7950s:

I hope you'll find a proper solution, Asus motherboard is one of the options, too - but it requires main drivers reinstall (graphic card requires just Catalyst reinstal AFAIK).

  • Distance between two PCIe x 16 slot of P55 GD85

    Hello,
Does anyone have an idea what is the clear distance between two PCIe x 16 slot of P55 GD85? planning to get one if my 2 x GTX 285 with modified cooling fan will fit in. each VGA with modified fan is around 55mm in height.
    thank you,

Exactly, there was no "rude" intention or the will to provoke you behind my previous answer.  In fact, I spent 15 minutes to find a ruler in order to measure the port distance on three different ATX Board to make sure I am not telling you anything wrong.  I would not have bothered to do that if I had been planning to write a rude reply.
[On the flip side: Personally, I find it kind of rude that you are accusing me of 'rudeness'.  However, I suggest we better drop the whole 'who is really being rude here' discussion.]
    Quote
The distance between the center lines of two neighbouring slots is always ~ 2.05cm.  There are two slots between the PCI-E-x16 slots of the P55-DG85.  Simply do the math!
    Quote
    I am not a mathematician
The distance between the center lines of the two PCI-E-x16-slots of the P55-GD85 is ~6.15cm (there are two more slots in between --> 2.05cm x 3).
    This means that this ...

each VGA with modified fan is around 55mm in height.
    ... should actually fit.

  • MSI 890FXA-GD70 - Can you use all 6 PCI Express expansion slots at once?

    Hey all,
I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use all 6 PCI Express expansion slots on the motherboard (the 5 Full x16 slot and the 1 x1 slot) at the same time?  I know I'd lose the capability for x16 bandwidth but does using any of the slots automatically disable any of the other slots?  I have 6 single wide x1 PCI express cards I want to use at the same time and they do not all seem to be getting recognized by the OS (W7 x64).
    Specs on the machine are:
    890FXA-GD70 Motherboard - BIOS 1.9
    AMD Sempron 145 CPU
    4 GB DDR3 Kingston RAM
WD 160 GB Blue SATA HD
    Win7 x64
    Thanks!

    • 5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots
    - PCI_E1 supports up to PCIE x16 speed (when PCI_E3 is empty)
    - PCI_E5 supports up to PCIE x16 speed (when PCI_E6 is empty)
    - If you want to install two graphics cards, please use PCI_E1 & PCI_E5 slots
    - PCI_E3 & PCI_E6 support up to PCIE x8 speed
    - If you want to install four expansion cards into PCI_E1, E3, E5 & E6 slots, these four PCIE x 16 lanes  will auto arrange from x16/ x0/ x16/ x0 to x8/ x8/ x8/ x8
    - PCI_E4 supports up to PCIE x4 speed
All PCI-E slots can be filled at the same time with no problem.
    They will run at x8,x8,x4,x8,x8
The question mark is the small PCI-E x1 slot.
It's not clear if will affect others or will be disabled, or will work fine with x1 speeds as adverted.
What hapends if you fill 5x of those cards into the five of the PCI-E slots, except the small PCI-E x1 slot?

  • MSI NF980-G65 PCI express x16 slot question

i was rewiring my case so i could get some cables out of the way, and as i was removing my graphics card, i pressed too hard on the little blue tail on the topmost PCI slot (the one closest to the processor socket) and the tail fell off. it looks like a bit of plastic chipped off the actual slot where the tail connects to the board, but i'm not sure if there's any damage to the slot, or if the slot has anything that has been compromised. the chip off the pci express x16 slot does not reach into the slot itself, there's no hole in the slot, i dont believe any of the connectors are touched, but i could be wrong.
here's a picture of the motherboard with the tail on the top PCI express x16 slot.

    to clarify,
it's just there to help guide the card in place and it's not a tab that releases a mechanism which physically lock the card in place.
its actually lock the card in a place, but will be fine without it as well,
when its filled well into the slot and secured by the screws

  • Need help enabling PCI Express graphics slot on HP envy 700. HELP!

Hello, My name is Patrick. Im 14 and I need sombodys help. Before you finish reading and your about to leave a suggetion for me, Im ONLY 14 and im not that good with cpu WORDS. For instince, I had to search up what the pci express graphics slot was xD. Last time i tried to do this i had to call mutiple numbers that led me to breaking my cpu. If anybody could leave STEP-BY-STEP instructions to enable that pci express graphics i would be very appretiated. Now here are the things i know for sure. This craphics card is a Geforce 650 graphics card that i know for a fact can work on my Hp Envy desktop. I have enought power suplyage to power sed Graphics card. So I already know how to insert the card, But thats pretty much it. I dont know if i have to have the External graphics card in while enabling the pci graphics. So Please be very discrptive while you answer this. I have already failed once, and had to send in my cpu to the repair station in hp. THAT TOOK 15 DAYS! It is expose to be on my front porch in 2 days. The grapics card is a $115 dollar item that i do not want to return because it seems that it can improve my frames while playing my Video games. So if anybody could help me with this i would be very thankful. Just leave the steps down below in VERY discriptive words that a 14 year old would understand. Thank you. Lastly I know what the bios is and also how to get there. Thats is all, THANKS YOU I forgot to tell you. The BIGEST PROBLEM I HAD IS whenever i plugged in my graphics card it would show a black screen on my moniter as i would boot it  Up. I need help getting that picture

    Hi:
Did you change the required BIOS settings before you installed your new video card?
If not, please follow the instructions at the link below...

I tried resetting my cmos and letting it auto detect, yet that did not work either. I sent the card back thinking it was a bad car, yet it posted on there machine, so is it a bad slot? An update I do not have? A re-call? Let me know please. Thanks

    Looking at ur sig I see U coorently use a X300. I gues that's a PCI-ex card too ??

  • K8NGM2-FID: bad PCI-e x16 slot on motherboard?

Computer boots fine, but I do no get any video output when booting from a PCI-e graphics card.  I've tried 2 eVGA GeForce 7600GS cards and 1 PNY 7300GT and they all have the same problem.  Components and detailed description are below.  I assume my motherboard's PCI-e slot is bad, but don't want to RMA it unless I have to (don't want to be without it for 2-3 weeks).
    Components:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2000MHz
    MSI K8NGM2-FID micro-ATX
    2x512MB Corsair ValueSelect PC3200
    Onboard GeForce 6150 / eVGA 7600GS / PNY 7300GT
Samsung SP0822N IDE 80 GB Boot Drive
    2x Samsung SP2504C SATA 250 GB in Raid 0
    Samsung IDE SH-S162L/BEBN DVD R/W

Hauppauge PVR-500 Dual TV Tuner (PCI)
Vbox Cat's Eye DTA-150 HDTV Tuner (PCI)
    D-Link Wireless G USB adapter
    Windows Media Center Edition 2005
    Detailed Description:
eVGA 7600GS: Before purchasing the PCI-e video card I was using the onboard GeForce 6150 graphics via DVI.  I went into the BIOS and selected [PCI Express] as the Primary Graphics Adapter and [Disable OnChip VGA if have PCIe VGA]. I then installed the video card and hooked it up to the monitor via DVI. The computer booted fine, but I got no video feed from the video card. I reseated the card and restarted a few more times but still got no picture. I hooked the DVI cable back up to the onboard graphics and got a normal video feed. The heatsink on the video card was warm so I know it’s getting power. I gave up for awhile and shut down the computer. Awhile later I booted the computer back up and I didn't get any video from the onboard graphics. So I plugged the DVI cable back into the video card and restarted, and I got a video feed! The add new hardware wizard appeared and installed. I restarted the computer later that night, and once again I got no video feed via the video card. I hooked the DVI cable back to the onboard graphics and I got a video feed. I have not been able to get any video feed from the video card ever since.
2nd eVGA 7600GS: I returned the video card to the store and got an identical replacement. I have not been able to get any video feed on this video card either. I have tried enabling [Both exist and OnChip VGA by frame buffer select] in the BIOS and that didn't help. I hooked up a monitor via DVI to the onboard graphics and a monitor via VGA to the video card (and vice-versa), and only the onboard graphics displayed anything. I unhooked nearly all components - USB devices, PCI cards, additional Hard Drives etc. and still could not get a video output from the card. I have reseated the card many times. It’s almost like the motherboard is not detecting that a PCI Express video card is installed. The Device Manager only shows the GeForce 6150 Display Adapter.  eVGA suggests a 400 Watt Power Supply, and I only have a 380 Watt PSU.
PNY 7300GT:  Installed and went into the BIOS, made sure everything was correct and rebooted.  I got a video feed from the card, but when windows detected new hardware, the computer froze so I had to restart.  I have not been able to get video output from the card ever since.  Card only requires a 300W power supply with 12V rating of 20A or more.
I've been using this motherboard for about 8 months without any problems until I tried installing a PCI-e video card.  So, do you think it's my motherboard or something else?

Quote from: TheBigMan on 19-October-06, 07:57:01
    Try this:
Go into BIOS to 'Advanced Chipset Features' and in:
'Primary Graphics Adapter' -> PCI Express
'OnChip and PCIe VGA Selection' -> Disable OnChip VGA if have PCIe VGA
'OnChip VGA Frame Buffer Size' -> Disable
    'OnChip VGA Trap' -> Disable
    See if it helps...
    Be well....
Yes, I've tried all that except setting the OnChip VGA Frame Buffer Size to Disable.  I just tried that and I couldn't get a video feed via the PCI-e VGA or the onboard graphics, so I had to reset the CMOS.

  • A55M-P33 and support for non-graphics cards in PCI-e x16 slot.

Does this motherboard support using an LSI raid card in the x16 slot, or does it only support graphics cards?  I am building an Unraid box and would like to use the slot for an x4 or x8 raid adapter in IT mode.
    Thanks Matt

Well wait around and see if anyone else post's but if you do a quick search of pcie raid controller you will find varying results. All the results I found were with Intel boards though so all I can say is no guarantees.
This is Msi's official response for raid cards:
    Quote
PCI-Ex4 RAID cards are designed and tested to work with Server/Workstation mainboards. Therefore MSI does not test server/workstation products with our desktop mainboards.
Please contact the PCI-Ex4 RAID card supplier for compatibility.
You can try to contact msi, but I assume they will tell you this.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
I have also heard some no so hot things about LSI service, I can however vouch for Adaptec's service, so you might want to contact both and see if they have tested and combinations.

  • Mac Pro 1,1 PCIe problem - only slot 4

I have a strange PCIe problem with a Mac Pro 1,1.
    2x2.66 Xeon
    24GB RAM
    Mac OS X 10.7.4
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB in slot 1
The Expansion Slot Utility is set to x16, x1, x4, x4 for slots 1 through 4 respectively. I have two SATA PCIe cards: Seritek 2ME4 and RocketRAID 644.
When the Seritek card is in slot 3, it works as it should, with the Expanion Slot Utility reporting maximum speed at x4. In slot 4, it runs at only x1 speed, but the Expansion Slot Utility reports that x1 is its maximum speed.
The RocketRAID also runs fine in slot 3 - x4 speed. When I put it in slot 4, the machine hangs immediately at startup.
This testing was done one card at a time. Only the video card was also present.
I should mention that I also have the Newer Technology eSATA Extender Cable installed.
So, is this a hardware issue, or is there some way to reset the PCIe controller? I'd love it if a good old "" "Option" "P" "R" would fix my issue.

I didn't have the second card until recently, so I wasn't using the fourth slot before installing 10.7.4
The expansion utility doesn't show an option at all for:
    16x
    1x
    4x
    8x
    Just:
The RocketRAID drivers are built into 10.6 and 10.7. There is only a browser-based GUI to install for it. Plus, it does work in slot 3, so I don't think it's a driver issue. There doesn't appear to be a new firmware for this card in RAID mode.

  • PCI Express Expansion Slots

I noticed that the Mac Pro offers 3 extra expansions slots for PCI Express graphics cards. How is it possible to SLI three graphics cards with no nForce MCP? Are the other slots even usable and how can you combine four graphics cards with no Crossfire or SLI?

SLI and Crossfire are not supported at this time.
The possibility to run more monitors is there with the extra slots, but not to combine video cards for faster frame rates on a one monitor.
It's not Apple's fault, it's the limited capabilities in the Xeon chipset supposedly, not all slots can be 16x. A pair can be 8x though.
