PCIe card from Macsales Faulty?

I ordered an Apiotek 1394+USB2.0 combo PCIe card from MacSales and am having a serious issue. After I installed the card and closed the machine back up, I plugged in the mac pro powercord and the computer just turned on by itself. I didn't even press the power on button. That was weird. So, it shows up under system profiler, in slot 4 (tried in 3 too) and seems to work ok. However, the serious problem is trying to shut down the computer. The problem is I can't do it. When I click apple/shutdown/shutdown, the mac begins to shutdown, but then it boots right back up with the apple chime and log-in screen. Holding the power button does not turn the machine off either. The only way I could turn the thing off was to yank the power cord. I removed my HDMI Intensity card, and tried just this card, and still had the same issues. Is this card bad? Should I send it back and get another one? Or is this card brand not good for the mac pro? Can anyone recommend a good PCIe USB and FIrewire combo card? I have a 2x2.8 Mac Pro, running 10.5.6, 6GB Ram. Thanks.

It's not going to act up anymore because I took it out. I don't want to pull out the CPU powercord to shut down my computer.
What powerplug wasn't the right size or fit?? The computer one? I'm using the one that came with the mac pro. Why would that cause the card to not allow the computer to shut down?
As far as calling macsales, I have an RMA request in. I will hopefully speak with someone about it then. Perhaps I will look into Sonnet and Aaxeon.

    Hi santh,
I don't think it's possible to use a 3rd party DNET PCI with LV API.

  • How to test PCI card from NI?

I install PCI-6527 card in computer, I want to test the card to see it is work. I right click the DAQ board in MAX configuration and choose "test panel", the compuer show a test panel, there is no error message, does that meaning that my card is ok?
or what other things should I do to test the panel?
    Thanks

Try the previous answer, test the resources and click on the DIO lines. Also you may want to test your card with an example and some logic analyzer or leds. There is a very good example for manipulating the DIO ports of your board. Go to www.ni.com >> Resource Library >> Search/Upload Examples >> Type: +pci +6527 .... the first result is an example for LabVIEW and for the 652x series, you may want to try it.
    Good luck!...

  • Recommendations? USB 2.0 & Firewire PCI card for MDD Dual Boot G4 (1.25 Ghz

Can anyone recommend a good USB 2.0 and Firewire combo PCI card? (at least 3 USB 2.0 ports and 2 FW) for my G4 MDD Dual Boot- 1.25 Ghz)?
I have an Orangelink+ Micro USB 2.0/FW PCI card from the days of OS 9- that's supposed to be USB 2.0 under OS X, but isn't (it shows up as max 12/mbps in System Profiler). I'd like to get an external Hard Drive and most of them are USB 2.0 now.
    Another question:
Under system profiler, it shows that I have one USB 2.0 port. I'm assuming it's an internal port, because all of the external ports show transfer rates of 12mbps. Is this a correct assumption?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Kernel panic after installing a USB 3.0 PCIe card

    Hello everybody,
I have a recent issue with my Mac Pro (early 2008). I just bought a USB 3.0 PCIe card from eBay for my Mac Pro and as the seller mentioned there are drivers for Mountain Lion. After installing the cards drivers that the seller sent me and plugged the PCIe card, whenever I connect a USB 3.0 device (I have only one) the Mac Pro is forced to reboot. If I leave the drive connected after the reboot I get a kernel panic message during the "Grey Apple Boot Screen" and the computer continues to reboot again and again. I have no issues with USB 2.0 devices at the same card. The kernel I get is the following. Does anyone have any idea? it seems like the kext installed with the card {net.osx86.kexts.VLIUSBXHCI(1.2.4)} causes the problem but the seller told me he has sold a lot of them, and i 'm the first with such a problem.
    Thank you in advance.

That card appears to be a Via Labs VL800 and Via has no Mac drivers, so gosh only knows where that kext came from. I'd highly recommend you remove it and consider getting a card from Sonnet where you can get proper Mac support:

To me it's not worth saving a few bucks from some generic card/driver pair to risk problems and perhaps even malware.

  • OS 10.4 not recognizing my PCI cards

I just upgraded my G4 dual 1.25gh machine from OS 10.3.9 to 10.4, using the disc which came with my G5 PPC machine (with PCI slots.) The drive doesn't find any of the 4 PCI cards (from 3 different manufacturers) installed in the G4. When I re-boot from a cloned 10.3.9 drive, the PCI cards are seen. I've updated to 10.4.11 (PPC) via download, but OS 10.4 still isn't seeing my PCI cards. Can anybody help me sort this out? Thanks, Tom

Besides the legal issue of one running copy per license, I'm surprised to hear that the G5's disk worked at all, you need either the Retail version of Tiger, or the Machine specific Gray one for the G4...

    Hi all,
I need to write a program  in labview that communicates with a pci dio 96 card.
I need to set a bit to 1 (0th port and 5th bit) periodically..
how can I communicate with the pci card from the labview..
is there any driver that we can use for this..
    Thanks,

    Thanks Dennis,
Actually I dont think I have any drivers installed.. Because, I used the tap test interface in MAX to find that I have to trigger the 5th line of 0th port of a pci dio 96 card to trigger my device.
I have downloaded and installed Daqmx that suits my labview version and started exploring the options.
Now, I am struggling hard to figure out how to change my requirement that I have mentioned above into an actual program in labview.
All I have is a pci dio 96 card installed, labview 8.2 and daqmx that supports my labview version. I have to make one of the lines to 1 and 0 alternatively.
Can anyone point to a tutorial or some discussion that could help me kick start.
    Thank you,
    VJ
Search in the examples\DAQmx\Digital folder inside your LabVIEW installation. There are several examples that should give you enough hints at how to go about that. And if you ever get at other problems there are many many more directories in that example folder. :
And an example finder to help you look for the right examples can be found in the Help menu.

  • MacWireless PCI Cards

    Hello,
Has anybody out there tried the MacWireless 11g PCI Card from MacWireless.com?
I'm initially interested in this card because it's supposed to be compatible with G4 towers and give the speed of 54 Mbps, a speed that can't be reached by purchasing the original Airport card (my 450 dual mac isn't compatible with Airport Extreme). According to the specifications, this card will be recognised as an Airport card and requires no additional software.
I'm currently running Mac OS X 10.3.4. Does any body know which Airport drivers this version of OS X has? (The MacWireless PCI card rev B requires Mac OS 10.3.3 or later and AirPort Drivers v. 4.2 or later.)
Finally, if I was to use a regular original Airport card, would it hinder potential broadband internet speeds on my computer? Would web pages load much slower?
Any information would be much appreciated.
Gigabit Ethernet Dual 450 G4   Mac OS X (10.3.4)   1.6Gb RAM, running Quark Xpress 6.5 & Adobe Creative Suite

    Hi Tom,
I haven't used the card but from what I've read it's compatable with OS X 10.2-10.4 with Airport 3.1-3.3; 3.4 and up native.
You can find the version of Airport you have with Apple System Profiler. Go to the Apple menu and choose About This Mac and then click on the More Info button. Click on Extensions under Software on the left and all installed extensions will appear on the right.
You won't be able to surf the web any faster with a 802.11g card because your internet connection isn't even as fast as 802.11b but you'll save $100 or so over the cost of an original AirPort card.

  • VirtuelPC driver for NI-CAN PCI Cards?

    Hi
I could be great if there where a NI-CAN PCI driver usable in a VirtuelPC. We do use VirtuelPC's i our company (ex. in the test area), and the abillity to share a NI-CAN PCI card from the host machine with the virtual PC could be a great feature.
Is there any posibility that this feature will be released in the future?
    /Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
National Instruments' LabVIEW is supported by Virtual PC. This means that a customer will be able to access his LabVIEW files on the Windows partition on his Macintosh machine. However, we still do not have DAQ driver support or NI-CAN support for Virtual PC.
You are wellcome to make this suggestion at our product suggestion center: http://digital.ni.com/applications/psc.nsf/default?openform

  • Pci card dial up telephone modem from a windows pc in my mac?

    Hi,
My B/W g3 has Tiger running stably. Can I pull a pci card dial up telephone modem from a windows pc and use it in my mac under Tiger?
    Special drivers needed?
    Thanks,
    Louis

There is not nor AFAIK has there ever been a PCI modem that worked with Macs. You need an Apple internal modem or an external modem. I use an external serial modem with a Keyspan USB to Serial adapter. You could also use an airport base station as these have modems built in as well.

  • RS-485: PC can send/receive data from PCI card, but LabVIEW can only send to card.

I have a master/slave setup with a 2-wire RS-485 connection via a StarTech PCI2S485 card  http://www.startech.com/product/PCI2S485-2-Port-PCI-RS-422-485-Card-with-DB9.  A Vista PC running LabVIEW 2010 is acting as the master to 6 slave devices.  I am running a driver VI supplied by the company that made the slaves.
I've used a terminal program called Termite to monitor the ports during operation and have concluded that both the PC and the slaves are sending correct data packets (i.e. correct protocol and reasonable data).  Termite indicates that the slave's response is being received by the PCI card, but the problem is that LabVIEW simply isn't reading the response from the card.  Each time the driver VI is run it returns a "timeout waiting for slave to respond" error.
The VI and slaves I am using are designed for both RS-232 and 485 communication.  I've verified the VI to run in 232 mode on a different COM port.  I also wrote a simple VI using the VISA functions to test the ports on the PCI card, but I've had the same results.  Hardware connections have been looked over carefully, but the fact that the card actually sends a correct message and receives a correct message indicates a different problem.
Any idea why LabVIEW can talk to the PCI card but can't hear it?  Is there anything I can do about this, or does LabVIEW generally not like StarTech's PCI2S485 cards?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Thanks,
    Tim
RS232 interface consist of 2 indipendent communication crossed lines between 2 devices (9DSub connector: Pin 2-RX  Pin 3-TX pin 5-Gnd)
RS485 interfaceis a bus, shared between 2 or more devices. (like ethernet or CAN Bus)
This means that an incorrect use of the bus can lead to a "packet collision" if 2 or more devices try to send a message on the bus at the same time or at least their messages, partially "overlap"
About 10 years ago I have used a PCI 2 RS485 port: I remember  that I have to change the status of RTS serial control line to switch between transmit and receive mode.
This can be done using the serial VISA property:
Serial Settings --> Modem Line Settings --> DTR State
    or using the VI
    <LabVIEW dir>\vi.lib\Instr\_sersup.llb\serial line ctrl.vi   (LV 8.6.1)
The result was that the slave device connected, send me the response after few nanosec. causing the lost of the answer.
because LabVIEW use more than some  nanosec. to change RTS property after sending message on the 485 bus calling a VISA Write.
So for me there was 2 possibilities:
    - use 2 RS485 port (1 for transmit 1 for receive echo transmit included)
     - use this converter

this converter, after sending a message on the bus, electronically switchs back to receive mode without losing a byte.
    But the question is :
    what does it means
"RS-485 mode supports Auto Transceiver turn around (ATTA)"
    of your card?
    bye

  • [Athlon64] k8n neo2 pci cards not working, missing onboard lan + firewire from bios

So while after putting the htt to 2x in the bios trying to isolate the highest htt my new cpu couldd handle by board apparently died a few days ago. Resetting the cmos and removing everything didn't help. I ordered up a new board and a few other things. I took the neo2 out of my case today and decided to give it one more shot. Then i remembered that my psu (enermax 470w) had a loose connection on a ground in the 4-pin connector that i had a bunch of trouble when i put the system together last year. Anyways, i fandangled around with it,plugged the motherboard back in and got everything up and running.Well, almost everything. My pci-wifi card and sound card weren''t showing up in windows. Thought it might have somethingto do with the onboard sound and lan since i had forgetten to disable it while getting the system up and running. Went into the bios and now the secondary lan and firewire were missing from the integrated peripherals menu where you enable/disable them. Like, their names aren't even there. Thought maybe flashing the bios backto an earlier version might help, i had just flashed to the newest for the new cpu. No luck there. Tried resetting the cmos after that, and moving around the pci cards, but no go. Anything else i might try?

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.
