Pck and is

difference between pck and IS

Hi,
1. what is a PCK
Decentral Adapter Engine is a PCK.
The PCK is a J2EE-based application that uses the Adapter Framework, which is also based on the SAP XI Adapter Engine. The adapter framework is based on the SAP J2EE Engine (part of the SAP Web Application Server) and the J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA).
2. How is it different from XI integration server
When Xi is installed we get default, central adapter engine.
Central adapter engine is on Integration server and decentral adapter engine is outside IS.

• PCK and Adapter Framework diff.

Hi experts, could you pls explain the differences between PCK and Adapter Framework engine?

Hi,
the PCK is used,if you want to exchange Messages from or to XI. That means for that, you need on the sender or receiver Side a XI System. The one way is,that a XI sends the Native XML SOAP Messages via XI Adapter to the PCK.Then the message can be converted in some other formats, because the PCK has its own Adapter Engine. But there is no IDOC adapter.
The second way ist, that for example you pick up XML Files with the PCK and transfer it to an XI system in the Native XML Format. With the PCK you can't do a File-to-File Transfer.
The PCK is a standalone Application, which has its own Monitoring,Configuration and User Management.Instead of that, a decentral Adapter Engine is directly connected to an XI System and is configured centrally in the XI System
PCK is a mini version of XI. It is used by smaller business partner (who cannot afford to install a full blown version XI) to exchange XI messages with large companies (having an XI installation).
PCK has its own local Adapter engine.

PCK against framework
the PCK is used at a partner site to configure the
XI Adapter Engine. In a stand alone XI installation
you will configure adapters in the integration directory.
On a partner site you do not have a integration directory
(only the adapter engine is installed there) so you need
another tool to do the job. That's the PCK. Therefore
you can't see any difference between the integration
directory and the PCK, both do essentially the same job.

• PCK and Java Proxy Runtime

Hello,
I am a newbie to XI world and have some questions regarding PCK and Java Proxy Runtime. Is it possible to send the message from PCK by using Java Proxy Runtime as Sender?
If yes what exactly configuration steps have to be done on PCK side like SLD & ExchangeProfile configuration according to Configuration Guide or XI Receiver Adapter with Receiver agreement creation?
Thanks in advance,
Viktar

Hi Stefan,
Thanks for information. We successfully checked a simple test scenarion JPR -> PCK -> File. It was necessary to configure properly XI Sender and File Receiver adapters on PCK.
SLD and Exchange Profile were not required to be configurable but in this case we have to use MessageSpecifier interface in client proxy for sender and receiver determinations.

• SCCM 2012 and .PCK files - how exactly are they used?

Ok, no one, not even Microsoft engineers can seem to provide a clear and definitive answer on this topic, everyone's understanding of the .PCK file with relation to SCCM 2012 is clear as mud.
I understand what .PCK files are...in the SCCM 2007 world, and how they work, all that jazz, what I don't understand is how/when/why they would be used by SCCM 2012...it seems that sccm 2012 would only need these .pck files during a reassignment of a shared
DP in a migration scenario...even that surmise is sketchy since I've watched very closely the DP content conversion process and at
no time did the server access the .PCK files to populate the single instance store.
I am going to do some more testing on my own, my ultimate goal is to permanent delete the contents (not the folder itself) of the SMSPKG folder, essentially all the .PCK and .DL$ files to save space on my server.
If any soul out there knows..not guesses...the purpose of the .PCK file in 2012, let me know please, don't just copy/paste other people's posts as an answer, explain in clear terms each step of the process that 2012 would utilize a .PCK, or if the answer
really is that 2012 does not use .PCK files at all, let me know.
I have a single primary site with 16 secondary sites in my SCCM 2007 environment, I'm migrating to a single primary with 16 distribution points...so even if .PCK's are used to populate secondary sites, I should not need them since I won't have any secondary
sites once all of my DP's are migrated...yeah?
Thanks!
Terry

Thanks for the reply Torsten, that would make sense if my primary site had any .pck files at all (my sccm 2012 site that is) only my DP's have .pck files. I have no child sites in my 2012 hierarchy unless DP's are child sites (I thought secondary sites are
child..) When my DP's require a package they get them from my primary site, not other DP's. I have no 'Pull' DP's setup.
If SCCM 2012 uses a 'single instance store', which contains 3 folders itself that seem to contain compressed versions of the package files, then there should be no need for another folder that also contains compressed files...just a thought.

• PCK XI adapter - ABAP Proxy to File Scenario How to?

Hi there,
We want to implement the following sceanrio; SAP ABAP outbound proxy to Flat-File scenario. A (sender) SAP system will trigger an outbound proxy which will send outbound data to a (receiver)file system via the PCK and Central Integration Server.
SAP (ABAP proxy) -> PCK-> XI -> File System
My question is; The PCK documentation suggests that the XI adapter included in the PCK can only be used to send/forward messages to the central integration server.
Does that means that one cannot use the same XI adapter on the PCK to redirect ABAP proxy messages to the Integration server?
Thanks,
Roberto

The PCK cannot be used as a replacement for XI Integration server. PCK is only a type of adapter engine that can run independantly. It is intended for partners who cannot use XI server. So PCK can not in itself execute interfaces. It can just forward all the messages received to the XI Integration server. PCK can only run your sender or receiver adapter all the mappings can only be executed on the integration server. So PCK just converts from the native format to XI format and forwards to the Integration Server.
Hope that carifies your question .
Thanks,

• SP9 on PCK - file adapter configuration or Messaging System Test

Hi,
I have upgraded my XI 3.0 PCK from SP1 to SP9. This is fine but now I do not have the Messaging System Test JSP
(I could not install the old one).So I would like to
configure the file adapter to send to my adapter some outbound messages.
I have tried configuring the file adapter as
I do on full XI server but the file adpater on PCK
just doesn't want to recognize the binding. No error logs, nothing. Any ideas what could be wrong ?
Sincerely,
Maxim Naidenov

The configuration of the PCK is different to the XI.
You need:
Communication Channel:
-> for Sender (File)
-> for Receiver (XI) (Here you enter the URL of the XI)
sender agreement (matching sender channel and interface)
receiver agreement (matching receiver channel and interface)
As the XI needs the same configuration for partner and service as the PCK, you should create two partners for PCK and XI and assign the sender channel to the service belonging to the partner PCK and the receiver channel to the service belonging to the partner XI.
I hope that helps

• Adapter development in PCK in a one2many scenario

Hello,
I want to develop my own adapter. To do that I installed the PCK and changed the relevant parameters as described in the help to pass the test messages through the PCK.
Before changing the sample adapter I tested a one2one scenario without problems.

Hello!
I have a Problem with the JCA Sample Adapter in the PCK 7.1 SP07. I will test the Configuration ( http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/f7/0c2441509fa831e10000000a1550b0/content.htm ) .

Go to the directory and create a value with name 'JNDIName' and value 'deployedAdapters/<ra name>/shareable/<ra name>' as module configuration data of the module 'ModuleProcessorExitBean'u201D
In the JNDI-Browser of Netwaver Administration canu2019t found JNDIName from directory ('deployedAdapters/sample_ra/shareable/sample_ra). I have located the name deployedAdapters/com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra/shareable/com.sap.aii.adapter.sample.ra and change this in the receiver channel u201CTo_Au201D. But I have the same problem.
I hope you can help me!
Thanks & Regards

Hello!
Yes I followed the Instruction.
I have deployed the Sample Source as AdapterJCA, change the JNDI name in the SampleRa.xml and upload to CPA Cache.
I have by now the Configuration deleted in PCK and rebuild the scenario. The demo Configuration runs now. I think the Configuration in the CPA Cache was wrong.

• XI to PCK

Hello,
I want to send a message from XI to the PCK and when i configure the communication channel i use the XI adapter type receive, i put the target Host with the IP adress of the pck host, i use the service number 50000 but i don't know which Path i should use ?
If somebody has an idea ?
Regards,

The URL is:

The service user must have the role xi_af_receive in PCK.

• SOAP Sender to JDBC Receiver via PCK Scenario

Hello all,
I have the following scenario:
an external program is calling my XI system which has a webservice enabled as a SOAP sender communication channel.
now, i need to pass the input over to a remote system with PCK installed on it which needs to execute a stored procedure on an oracle database via the jdbc adapter.
The jdbc adapter is deployed and working well on the PCK engine.
When I pass an xml message over to the Webservice, its also OK (in the adapter monitoring).
my question is - how can i pass the input parameters from the WS over to the PCK and then over to the JDBC adapter to execute the Stored procedure (which only writes the data).
I saw that the data type and message types of the message going to the JDBC need to be in special format including the name of the SP, action=execute and all the parameters with attribute type=datatype.
all of that is done already.
However, i still do not understand where/how does the PCK get the message and invokes the JDBC adapter for processing.
Many thanks for you help!!!

• XI-PCK integration: features

We would like to use a B2B integration based on XI<->Partner Connectivity Kit. In particular, we would like to send/receive XML documents to/from an Oracle DB connected to the PCK via JDBC adapter.
Is there anyone who already experienced PCK?
I read it's possible to digitally sign XML documents coming from XI (XI protocol); is it true?
Any idea about implementation effort?

Luigi,
We have very limited experience with the PCK. Both the PCK and XI itself will support digital signing in 3.0. In our setup with XI 3.0 SP4, this is not yet the case.
As an alternative, we have been using the HTTP adapter with HTTPS to communicate with business partners.

• PCK in XI

Hi,
PCK in XI
Thanks,
RamuV

Hi Ramu,
Purpose
The Partner Connectivity Kit (PCK) enables you to connect to SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI).
The PCK is a J2EE-based application that uses the Adapter Framework, which is also based on the SAP XI Adapter Engine. The adapter framework is based on the SAP J2EE Engine (part of the SAP Web Application Server) and the J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA).
Implementation Considerations
The Partner Connectivity Kit is based on the SAP Web Application Server 6.40 J2EE server.
Features
● Using the PCK, you can configure how messages are exchanged between senders and receivers by defining collaboration profiles (communication parties, services, and communication channels).
● The PCK enables you to convert information to the SAP XI messaging protocol. This conversion is made possible using adapters.
Conversely, you can convert the data that you receive from the Integration Server to other formats so that it can be used by your applications. When defining the flow of messages that are processed by the PCK, one of the end points is always the Integration Server.
● The SAP Conversion Agent by Informatica allows you to convert unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data in XML format using an adapter module. See: Conversion Agent
● A graphical mapping editor enables mapping between source and target structures. If you have implemented XSLT or Java mappings and packed them in a JAR or Zip file, you can import these archives.
● Monitoring is available to enable you to monitor and track messages that flow through the PCK, and to monitor the adapters.
● Information on adapter development is available for partners. This also contains information on how to create a module to extend the adapter functions. See: Adapter and Module Development
● The configuration example shows you which objects must be created in the PCK and in the Integration Server of the XI customer to configure a message exchange.

• PCK with XI

Can PCK and XI be installed on one WAS 6.40 standalone system?
I have reviewed the SAP PCK Installation Guide (SR1), and it seems that the recommendation is to have the PCK on a separate WAS 6.40 system.

• Testing Adapter in PCK

I am trying to test sample adapter in PCK Server (Scenario PCK -Sender to PCK-Receiver, cc - sample Adapter). I configured scenario per help.sap.com. in CC Monitoring, it shows as it is functioning and in green legend. Even though I configured sender agreement and receiver agreement, it is not picking file and not doing anything.
I configured NWA with relevenat config (authorization of user, isconfig url, internal, user, password etc ) as per help.sap.,com.

May be some basic check can help:
1) file location and filename(alongwith extension) are maintained properly in the channel
2) if possible use the IP address of the file server from where the file is to be picked up.
3) In case of XI/ PI when such a thing happens, it is blamed on the adapter being locked. If the adapter is locked it will just show message in CC monitoring like processing started (something similar), however in reality the channel is not able to pick the file because the adapter is locked...check if it is the issue for you...not sure if the procedure to check for adapter is the same for PCK and XI/ PI....it is done through Visual Admin in 7.0 and in NWA for 7.1
