PCL XL error: subsystem:kernel

I have an HP Color Laser Jet Pro M252dw. The printer works very well for all documents, except for one lengthy PDF I purchased from Teachers Pay Teachers. I was able to print the first ten pages, but it will not print any more.  I am operating on a Dell with Windows Vista. PCL XL Error: Subsystem: KernelError: ExtraDataFile Name: kerlib.cLine number 3131  Again, any other document I print works fine, but when I try that perticular PDF I get the above error.  Thanks!

Hi Fule,
Sorry that didn't work for you.
These following steps have worked with previous printers, which you could try.
Go to start/devices and printers/right click on the printer/left click printing preferences.
Click on the Advanced  tab/click + beside document options/click + beside printer features.
Then click on printer data optimization.
Change it to optimized for text & vector instead of auto.
Restart the computer and try printing again.
Adobe 10 can also be the cause of some PCL XL error messages when PDF's are printed.
Going back to Adobe 9 can sometimes resolve this issue.
What version are you using?
Hope this helps.
Thank You.

  • HP LaserJet M2727nf MFP - PCL XL Error - is this repairable?

This printer works fine offline - it copies and prints reports in duplex with no problem ... but gets an error (locks up) and no longer prints from the computer.  It has worked fine for the last year, since I purchased it as a refurbished printer from HP.  It seemed to deteriorate shortly before it failed completely.
Is this repairable... (I was able to get the following printout once, but can't figure out how I did that!)
    PCL XL error:
       Subsystem:  KERNEL
       Error:            InternalError  0x7
       Operator:      Text
       Position:        1545
I would appreciate any advice as to how to resolve this problem ... including where else I could look for an answer.
Thanks for any help you can offer ... Melissa

    Your error:
    PCL XL Error
    Subsystem: Kernel
    Error: IllegalTag
    File Name: Kernel.c
    Line Number: 1921
implies that the incoming print job includes a tag which is not supported by the protocol.
To find out just what is wrong with the print stream would almost certainly require access to the source code (specifically module Kernel.c) of the firmware in the printer - available only to HP (or whoever was contracted to write the firmware).
In earlier generations of LaserJet printer, the format of the error message (as per the PCL XL specification) was somewhat different; for example:
    PCL XL Error
    Subsystem: Kernel
    Error: IllegalTag
    Operator: SetFont
    Position: 43
which could be used to discover the underlying fault by reprinting the document using 'print to file', then analysing the resultant .prn file, and finding the data associated with the relevant PCL XL Operator tag (which, in the above example, would be the 43rd operator in the print job).
Although the new format of error message is possibly more useful to HP in determining the cause of the error (their having access to the source code of the firmware), it would have been very useful to independant consultants if the original Operator tag and Position elements of the error had also been included.
If you get exactly the same error if you reprint the same document to the same printer, using the same application and print driver on the same workstation, then the fault is likely to be a driver error, in which case the only solution may be to use a different printer driver (if one is available).
If doing a reprint as per above produces a different error (or no error at all), then the problem is intermittent, and is more likely to be caused by corruption of the print job between workstation and printer; check (perhaps by replacing one item at a time) cables, ports, switches, hubs, etc.

  • HP M1536 PCL XL error or inverted PDF document

    Hello,
We're having some trouble with an m1536dnf All-In-One printer one of our clients recently acquired. The printer itself is connected to the network via ethernet cable and the computers that are printing to it either via cable or wireless. They are all using either Windows Vista or Windows 7.
They all seem to print just fine, with the exception of some PDF documents from some of their clients. These documents either do not print and we get a printout of a PCL XL error (when trying to print from Adobe Reader) or do print, but with black background and white text (Foxit Reader).
    The PCL XL error is:
    PCL XL Error
    Subsystem: KERNEL
    Error: ExtraData
    File Name: kerlib.c
    Line Number: 9024
    Things we've already tried:
    - updating both Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader
    - updating printer driver (unfortunately there is only one version available: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4062&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=3974... )
    - updating printer firmware
    - reinstalling
    - installing via USB or printer sharing
    - saw a page ( http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00064499 ) describing our issue but could not find a way to switch to a PCL 5 driver
    - using the Generic driver found here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=4157320&...
    - installed on a PC with Windows XP
It seemed at some point that a solution was to switch the printing resolution from 600 dpi to 1200 FastRes (both with EconoMode activated). However, after doing this another document showed up with the same problem. It may not seem like a serious issue to some, but with a bunch of users who have only basic knowledge about using computers issues like this can grow into big problems.
We also have little information about the PDF documents and their source, but as far as I could figure out at least most of them are generated by scanning from other multifunction printers.
We also took the printer back to our supplier and explained the issue. We could also demonstrate with a PDF file but could not leave the file with them due to privacy issues. They tried printing with the Generic driver but with no joy as the issue kept manifesting. If we send it to warranty they will most probably print a number of documents and say it's working OK (I would do the same in their position ), this is why I was wondering if any of the people here are experiencing the same issue with this printer or have any ideas on how to solve it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Eugen Sechel.

  • Error 41 - Kernel Power in event log after clean shutdown - Windows 8.0

HP Envy H9-1405A - 16MB RAM,  Windows 8.0, and up to date with updates. (16 months old but under extended h/w warranty).  All user data backed-up daily.
After problems earlier today I noticed that after a controlled shutdown and start from cool (ie on/off button on PC, not mains power at the wall) the startup took over 10 minutes.  Event browser showed error 41 - Kernel Power - "after system crash or lost power unexpectedly",  which it definitely hadn't as I was testing a controlled shutdown.
When starting from overnight sleep mode this morning it came up with  blue screen and an error mssage something like 'hard disk driver error', or similar (before first coffee so I wasn't really awake).  PC wouldn't restart in anything like reasonable time until powered off at wall, after which it struggled up and ran normally for a while.  Went out for a couple of hours and on return again the PC wouldn't re-start from sleep mode.  Again used the wall power switch to effect the restart and PC and after very slow restart it ran normally.  Event log showed Startup Repair ran due to a corrupted registry hive, and reboot used an earlier version.
Checkdisk ran clean and the HP Support Assistant diags just looped for ever.
I then tried a system restart, which worked but took a long time, and then a controlled power down and start from cool which also took a long time as described above.  I've temporarily turned off sleep mode so as to keep working.
Question - do I have a transient software problem which might be fixable with Recovery, or failing hardware that should be covered by warranty, and where might I find some hardware diagnostics to show to the supplier?  Thanks.

    Hello @mikerb,
I have read your post on how your desktop computer is displaying an error message in regards to a Kernel event log, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first". This should help to resolve the critical error message.
Just to be on the safe side, I also suggest following this resource on Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 8); which should help determine if there is a hardware defect with one or multiple hardware components on your computer.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fn PCL XL Error

     Hello,
My printer HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fn networked and accessed by more than 6 computers including windows 8, Xp, 7 in the same network. Each time when the printer gets new IP from its DHCP, I need to go to each computer and change the IP even though  All the computers got the software and drivers installed. So i changed the IP of printer from Auto to Manual and the new issue is sometimes print is coming with PCL XL Error or it goes to unavailable. Gave a try to upgrade the firmware as well. But it is not getting done!! Please someone give me a solution.

    Hi Anasdxb
I would be happy to help you.
I see the printer isn't staying connected to the network and you are not able to run the firmware update on the printer.
When doing the firmware update you should always connect the usb cable from the printer to the computer and download the firmware, save it and then run it. (printer has to be in a ready state)
I would recommend setting up a static ip for the printer. This way the router will always assign that ip address to the printer and this should resolve this issue. Go to Step six: Assign you HP product a static IP address.

(For step 4.Type in the ip address from the configuration report.
If the subnet address and gateway address is not already filled in use the configuration report for this information.

  • PDF brings PCL XL Errors

We have a specific document we need printing with a lot of graphics, however when printing to our HP Laserjet 400 printer - it brings up PCL XL errors like IllegalFontData, I think the PDF was created in InDesign.

    Hello,
Yes I've tried that and it does work, however we send these PDFs to all in our team and unfortunately we can't ask everyone to go into their Advanced settings and Print as Image every time we send a PDF it's just not reasonable for them to do, and we have a lot in our team. So within InDesign we have decided to Print the Indesign file to PDF instead of exporting it and then print the PDF as it is - it seems to have worked.

  • P3005 error message PCL XL error IllegalMediaSource extra sheet printed after every print job

We have a networked P3005 with a stepped back PCL5e driver working for three Word 2003 people and one Word 2007 person. Out of the blue the Word 2007 person began getting an extra sheet of paper after every print job with the error message PCL XL error  Warning: IllegalMediaSource. We had gotten a version of this error before, which is why I stepped back the driver to PCL5e.
    Anyone have any thoughts? Please??

I have not had any problems since I read a post from someone to turn the printer off unplug the power cord from it and wait a little bit.  Plugged it back in, turned it on and it has been working.   I am using Vista 32 bit.  I'm not sure this is what you are wanting on the driver.  I found this  HPC14106 .GPD    3.25.2010
    Thanks

  • PCL XL error, missing attributes of networking printing ( Windows 7 64 bit )

So here is the problem, proviously we were use win XP SP3 and all shared printer worked fine.Currently after migration to windows 7 64 bit this issue is appear. PCL XL error.
Below is two missing row for .prn file from not working state
    In a working state
@PJL JOB NAME = "application name"
    @PJL SET STRINGCODESET=UTF8
While in working state this row is available
What should we do for this issue ? We have use latest driver Universal DriverPCL 5 and PCL 6.

As I said before, the reported PCL XL error is nothing to do with any of the PJL commands (missing, or not).
The error is because a mandatory attribute is missing from the attribute list which precedes and quantifies the PCL XL BeginPage operator.
From the evidence you've supplied I can't properly analyse the PCL XL, but (I think) that I've reconstructed one small (but relevant) part of the stream, and here is an analysis of that part of the 'good' one:
    PCLXL Data Type 0xc0 ubyte
    Value 0x00 ePortraitOrientation
    PCLXL Attribute 0xf828 Orientation
    PCLXL Data Type 0xc0 ubyte
    Value 0x01 eAutoSelect
    PCLXL Attribute 0xf826 MediaSource
    PCLXL Data Type 0xc8c10500 ubyte_array
    Value 0x506c61.. "Plain"
    PCLXL Attribute 0xf827 MediaType
    PCLXL Data Type 0xc8c006 ubyte_array
    Value 0x4c4554.. "LETTER"
    PCLXL Attribute 0xf825 MediaSize
    PCLXL Operator 0x43 BeginPage
This corresponds to the text in your araxis report of:
    À\x0000ø(À\x0001ø&ÈÁ\x0005\x0000Plainø'ÈÀ\x0006LETTERø%C
Note that part of this sequence is missing from the 'bad' example:
The missing bit corresponds to the Orientation attribute and its preceding data.
The obvious conclusion is that the (PCL6) printer driver is at fault, but it's also perhaps possible that there is some fault in the interaction between the application (whatever that is) and the printer driver.
    You could:
Check to see if there is a later version of the PCL6 driver available for your platform.
Or use a PCL5 (or perhaps PostScript) printer driver, since these will not cause PCL XL errors to be generated (although they may of course give rise to other faults).

  • During upgrade I've had ERROR FATAL: kernel too old

I'm using a recompiled kernel 2.6, today I've upgraded my archlinux (like all days), but during it, I've had an error:
    FATAL: kernel too old
Rebooting my computer, now I can't login on my archlinux, infact I've kernel panic (using default kernel). If instead I use my recompiled kernel, I can login, but wifi device is not more known, kde doesn't start more, nvidia drivers doesn't work. So it's impossible to login.
I've the same problem on another computer where I've archlinux with a recompiled kernel 2.6
Anyone has had the same problem or can show me a resolution ?
Please, I don't want reinstall completely Archlinux, infact I've it from 2 years and half on one computer, and from 1 year and half in the other.
    Thanks.

Or prolly wiser would be to install the latest arch kernel...

  • PCL XL error using CNSAPWIN

    Hi,
I am currently using device type CNSAPWIN for printing chinese characters. But I am not able to print the logo(graphics). There is an PCL XL error which appears. the printer I am using is HP Laserjet 3015. But when I change the device type to HPLJ4 or something and try printing, then it works. But I will not be able to print the chinese characters then. So is there anyway I can print the chinese characters as well as the logo.

    Hi,
PCL XL error is due to your improper Printer Driver. Jus update the printer driver to the latest and it will solve your problem. don't change the device types.
    Feel free to revert back.

I can't picture what is doing this other than something missing or muxed, but perhaps it's time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
