PCMCIA card problem

I've been using a Sandisk 6-in-1 PC Card Adapter with SD cards for a few months with no problem until now. Today my PB wouldn't read a SD card if I used the Adapter. When I put the card in my camera and connected there was no problem. I tried several cards all with the same outcome
What do you think? Is this a PB problem or a Sandisk adapter problem?

I have determined that the only cards that don't load are Sandisk UltraII 1 GB SD cards, though it's strange because they have worked before. Are these readers really unstable? I'm open to suggestions or recommendations for other readers. I've also written to Sandisk to see what they say.

  • PCMCIA card problem; bus not working -- connection to logic board was loose

The PCMCIA WiFi adapter on my good ol' TiBook recently stopped working all of a sudden. (OS X wasn't automatically recognizing the adapter as it used to, and the power LED on the card itself wasn't lighting up.) I thought the adapter itself was broken, but discovered the problem was with the slot itself after trying a brand new adapter in the slot.
I came across this post by user "eww" that ended up fixing the problem in less than a minute. As eww had said:
...Check to make sure your PCMCIA card cage's connection to the logic board hasn't worked loose, as they sometimes do. Release the keyboard (instructions are in your owner's manual) and flip it gently back onto the wrist rest. Look for a brown tab under the normal position of the D and X keys. That's the card cage's connector to the logic board. Press it down firmly; if it moves or clicks at all, it was loose and probably not making good contact. Test again after returning the keyboard to its place.
This worked perfectly for me. I'm posting it here so hopefully it can benefit someone else with the same problem I had. Thank you, eww!

Hi, Mihira. You're quite welcome. It's always nice to hear that an old post continues to be useful.

  • Dell Latitude CPx Xircom pcmcia card problem.

    Hi.
I have recently received an old Dell Latitude CPx laptop. i have added to it an old Xircom RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/100+ Modem 56.
after the installation, when booting, during the start-up of networking, i get the following message:
    SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address
are there any known solutions to this problem?
or will i have to swap Ethernet cards?
    thank you in advance
    sha1

    1. Is the card recognized? Run lspci
    2. What is the output of ifconfig -a? Does it show up as an interface?
    3. Do you have it coming up by default in networking settings?

  • Problem inserting PCMCIA card

I have a Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card, and for the life of me, I cannot get it into the PCMCIA slot.  I've tried both the top and bottom every direction and way I can think of.  It simply won't insert.  Any advice?

    Hi Stieffers,
    Welcome to the Lenovo forum
I know just what you mean about the PC card slot... it is *stiff* when new. And the connector may be ever so slightly mis-aligned with the slot. I had the same problem with a different (eSATA) PC Card, I thought I was going crazy! Anyway: the slot you want is the bottom one. Try (gently) pulling up (or possibly pushing down) on the end of your PC Card as you insert it. Don't break anything... but I'm pretty sure you'll be able to insert it. It will get easier on subsequent insertions.
    Good luck!

  • Wifi prism pcmcia card and problems with ctrl module insert

    hi
probably until initrd based kernel i can't control what module for my pcmcia wireless card zcom 325h will be used.
i think the process inserting modules for pcmcia devices is maintined by tools from pcmcia-cs pkg.
devices assigned to drivers via manfid are in /etc/pcmcia/config and in name order included /etc/pcmcia/*.conf
but when was hostap driver moved from own package into the kernel package the /etc/pcmcia/hostap.conf was removed and now i don't know how to disallow to load this ugly module after pcmcia card inserting
i would like to use orinoco_cs instead.
    thanks for any help

    Hello,
I am owner of AR8131 which runs with atl1c without problems.
Unfortionally it seems that module does not have any optional parameters so i guess it wont be "easy" fix.
    hits:
check your bios for "NET AI" or w/e named function that checks for bad cabels ( got many problems in the past with nvidia cards if i remember correct with those type of functions )
In any case wish ya luck

  • Equium L10 doesn't recognise any wireless PCMCIA card that I install

    Hi,
I've just bought a brand new Toshiba Equium L10 and I can't get any wireless card to install. I have tried different models from Belkin, Netgear and MSI, all of which work perfectly fine on other laptops but not on this one.
The L10 is a clean Windows XP SP2 build straight from the retailer and I am carrying out the following steps to install the wireless network card:
    1. Start Windows XP SP2 and log on as admin
    2. Run software for the wireless card
    3. Insert wireless card
At this stage, windows only recognises the wireless card as an ethernet adaptor and won't install the drivers. Even if I install it manually and point it specifically to the correct directory, it still fails to pick up the drivers and says that there is nothing in the directory for the hardware that I am installing.
I have the latest BIOS for the L10 and have tried all of the following to no avail:
    1. Disable USB legacy support in BIOS
    2. Disable built in ethernet
    3. Run Toshiba PC Diagnostics (reports that everything is working just fine including PCMCIA)
    4. Rebuild laptop using supplied Toshiba DVD
Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong? This is driving me crazy and I've never had this kind of issue with any other laptop. Is this a known fault with Toshiba laptops and what's the fix?
Is it a Win XP SP2 problem? Is my laptop faulty?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    K.

Can you post the details of this card?
Did you contact the PCMCIA card manufacture for support? Maybe there is a new driver release for this card.
I have noticed some problems with a Vodafone PCMICA card on a Satellite P10. This card has caused a blue screen on the unit. Well, the disabling of hyper threading technology in the BIOS has solved this issue. On another cards the new driver release has also solved some strange problems.
However, what I would say is there are many things which could have a bad influence.
Firstly I would recommend to ask the card manufacture for a support.

  • [GAVE UP] New Wifi card problem - no orange "Wifi on" light

For some silly reason the Intel Wifi 4965 agn mini-PCI card in my wife's laptop will not work with anything newer than Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. Linux will not even "post". (I think that's the right word) So, I ordered an Intel Wifi 5100 agn mini-PCI card as a replacement.
When I installed it, Linux recognized it (hooray!) but will not use it. (boo!) The dmesg output says that the radio is disabled by the hardware switch. (the physical switch on the case of the laptop) Also, the orange "Wifi on" light does not light up any more.
Physically, the new card is an exact replacement for the old one. I don't think the two wires are on backwards. (they are labeled) I did not see anything in the BIOS related to Wifi. Toggling the switch off and on does not help. It is a Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 with an AMD Athlon64 processor.
    Has anyone experienced this problem?
Does anyone have a suggestion of what to try?
    Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion. I installed the firmware, the modules were loaded correctly, and the OS detected it, but it wouldn't work.
I pretty much have given up. I returned the card mentioned above. I even bought and tried another wifi card without success. My experience has been:
Intel wifi 4965 miniPCIe: Works great, but anything past Linux kernel 2.6.27 (I think it was) will not boot with the card in the computer and with the wifi switched on.
Intel wifi 5100 miniPCIe: The wifi switch never appeared to detect it. Linux detected it and installed the drivers for it, but the "wifi on" light never turned on, and Linux couldn't use it because it didn't think it was on. I gave up and returned it to Newegg. The problem may have been related to this, but that is for miniPCI cards, and not miniPCIe.
Intel wifi 3945 miniPCIe: It is branded as a Toshiba card, and so I thought it would work in a Toshiba laptop. I bought it cheap off of Ebay. It is neither detected by the OS or the wifi switch.
I'm not sure what I'll do now. I may buy a PCMCIA card. I may just leave Hardy on it until it dies.

  • Satellite 2410-413: USB2 PCMCIA card doesn't work

Good morning. It is my first time on a forum, and my English is poor.
I have tried to install a PCMCIA card with 4 USB-2 ports (hw & sw) on my Satellite 2410-413 in order to use a DTV dongle (hw & sw).
It will not work: The ports seem to be declared all right in the computer but in effect, a simple 64 MB USB-2 memory key [a Sony "micro-vault" key), will not work, and neither will the Winfast DTV dongle.
Paradoxically, both the mem key will work on any of the three USB-1 ports, and the DV dongle will light up on any USB-1 port. The PCMCIA card with 4 USB-2 ports is new. I cannot locate the origin of the problem.
Would any one help me with this question?
Thank you in aadvance for your reply. Here is (maybe ?)
Another way of formulating the question: how are USB ports managed by the system?

    > Hello Rasta

    Many thanks to you Mike30.
I have a couple of ideas now:
    - supplying the USB2 card with additional power (ie other power than computer), (but how?)
    - uninstalling and further, re-installing the USB2 "Truewin" PCMCIA card bus, and after that trying the "leadtek-brand" DTV sw.
    Cheers,

  • Audigy 2 Z2 Notebook PCMCIA Card cannot install Creative Mediasource 5

. Every time I try and install CMS5 on the Audigy 2 Z2 Notebook PCMCIA Card, I keep getting this ERROR:
[color="#ff0000"]DoInstall Fails to Launch C:\Windows\CRF002\CTXInst\Setup.inx DoInstall return error code is - 2472332
here is the file name of the install: CMS5-BRNR_PCAPP_LB_5_0_44.exe
I have re-installed, all creative drivers, I even clean installed them, and i still get this error, any ideas?
EDIT: I fixed the problem, you have to install the older CMS5 before the latest new driver will work............well duh!

Thank you for the reply split0,
as for the informati've post, thank you for the compliment, i tend to not open a thread at all unless i have spent enough time on the problem and searched around enough for solutions, and after that i only post if it has enough info regarding everything in inside the thread.
In regard to the known incompatibility list, unfortunatly this is one of the things i checked beforehand already.
The PCMCIA adapter in my laptop is a Texas Instruments PCI-8x2/7x2/6x2 CardBus-controller.
Which is one of the most common controllers and should normally not cause any troubles at all, also in another thread on this forum i found a differant driver for it, i even tried that with no result sadly.
At the moment personally i am thinking the whole problem lies within not being able to uninstall the onboard sound card to full extent somehow, and while i posted here i also have all this info in a direct message sent to creative, and even acer for that matter.
In hopes of some kind of solution for this so i can keep my hopes up for not having to return the card itself.
What bugs me is that there is option at all to disable the onboard sound through the bios.
Because right now whenever i install the ZS notebook card it checks hardware for the onboard first installing it again, then setting priority for the zs notebook.
This is what seems to result in the crashes through a conflict in drivers in my idea, but thats just a hunch which i cant do anything about currently in regard to testing unless someone has an idea for me to try.

  • Portege 3480ct: Cannot use the 16bit PCMCIA card

    Hello,
    I got a Problem with a PCMCIA-Card (new media wave jammer, 16bit) on a 3480 with Win98 & XP.
The card appears as a unknown device only in the "remove Hardware"-Tool.
In the device-manager it isn't listed at all and Windows didn't ask for the driver.
Looks like a demaged card, but this card still works fine in another Notebook!
The Problem could be related to different Memory areas used by the Cardservice.
The Cardservice at the 3480ct seems not to be configurable.
    What can i do?
    Thanks

    Hi
The PCMCIA card doesnt need an driver!
From my knowledge you should check the settings in the BIOS!
On the second BIOS page you should try to change the Device Config to All devices and in the PC card section you should set the controller mode to Cardbus/16bit
    .then save the BIOS settings.
    Maybe it helps

  • Has anyone gotten the FBUS PCMCIA card to work on a PCI to PCMCIA adapter board?

I have lots of success with the PCMCIA card in laptop PCMCIA slots, but no luck with the PCMCIA card in a desktop PC with a Quatech PCD-B/PCI-E PCI adapter for PCMCIA boards.  I am thinking that my problem resides with the adapter board but I would like to know if anyone has had success with the FBUS series 2 PCMCIA card with a PCI to PCMCIA adapter.  I got a WinXP SP2 IBM ThinkCentre desktop.  Thanks

We have ever used some PCMCIA to PCI adaptors, they are working properly with NI PCMCIA-FBUS card as well as NI-FBUS software.
I'd like to recommend the single CardBus PCMCIA slot adaptor from Elan Digital System:
    http://www.elandigitalsystems.com/adapter/pci.php
We have used the adaptor in a Dell Dimension desktop, running XP SP2, and NI-FBUS Configurator 3.1.1 runs well.
Another adaptor is a long card, which is Gigabyte GA-MPCI, it works well with some old desktops, but the length of the card is about twice of the card of Elan Digital System; it might not fit your requirement.
    Hope it helps.

  • Novatel PCMCIA card issue: code 10.

I'm trying to install novatel Merlin U630 UMTS/GPRS PCMCIA card. But I'm having a "code 10" installation issue where the card appear to be malfunctioning. I searched for the issue (the card is not malfunctioning because it can be install on a centrno system). I went to the novatel website and they where reporting the same issue on other 4 laptop models from different manufacturers (like toshiba satellite 3000 series). Apperantly the problem lies with the resource management ( you can read about this issue here http://www.novatelwireless.com/support/files/TSBUMTS_001_EC10_.pdf ).
One solution requires me to manually assign resources to the device. But at least here in windows home I can't change it because it says the device is no using any resources (since it is malfunctioning) the other option is to ask the pc manufacturer and BIOS manufacturer to update the BIOS since this is supposed to be a BIOS issue...
Really, I'm finding this AMI BIOS very limiting... I reported on other post that I'm not being able to boot from a USB HDD (the same I've always booted before on other computers) but I could boot from a simple USB pendisk... also I find the BIOS options very limited... Maybe AMI should consider a serious update for the BIOS...
(If anyone could help me I would be very glad since I'm paying the monthly fee for the3G service but I can't use it....)

I have now tried with the preload without any luck. Or that is not completly true, I could put a 1 gB Kingston card in the computer and it would pop up. But it also freezed the computer from time to time.
If I took the card again after a freeze, the computer went back to normal.
But out of 6 SD cards, that was the only one I managed to get working.
I tried all kind of sizes:
    64 mb (no luck)
    512 mb (no luck)
1 gb (kinda worked - sometimes freeze)
    2 gb (no luck)
    4 gb (no luck)
    8 gb  (no luck)
So now I have called Lenovo support and they will come and fix it for me.

  • PCMCIA Performance problem on T61?

I use Compact Flash to PCMCIA card adapter to transfer the images onto my laptop. The transfer rate is around 1 mb/s. I tested the same on other laptops and I get 30Mb/s.
Is there anything wrong with T61 PCMCIA card slots? Please advise

I think if you wish to chase down your performance problem it will be helpful to post your exact machine type (4 digits on bottom sticker), OS, PC Card - Compact Flash adapter, and Compact Flash chip.
If the exact same adapter and CF chip are 30X faster in another laptop, it sounds like a Lenovo BIOS and/or OS driver update are needed.

  • PCMCIA card firewire work on old laptop?

    Hey!
I am trying to find a CD burner for my old WallStreet G3 233. I was wondering: if I were to buy a firewire PCMCIA card, would that (somehow) operate at the same speed as the SCSI port on the back of my machine?
See, I doubt it will because I already have a 2 port USB 2 card but it will only deliver USB 1 speeds (even though it's USB 2).
It will be hellish to find one of those old square SCSI adapters... unless I can actually find one that is either true USB2 or firewire. If I can, I will be the happiest guy on earth! Anyone know of any fixes for these problems?

Hi, Shane. A Wallstreet running OS 9.x can use a FireWire 400 PC card adapter. It should transmit data faster than your built-in SCSI port does, and it will certainly be faster than USB 1.1 (which is all you'll get on the Wallstreet, unless you upgrade to OS X 10.2.8 or 10.3.4 or higher to gain USB 2 support). So a FireWire CD burner is a possibility for you. But be aware that there were some very good SCSI CD burners made a few years ago, especially by Yamaha, and they occasionally appear on Ebay at very reasonable prices. I still have and occasionally use my old 4x4x16x Yamaha SCSI CD-RW, which I got when it was brand new and the fastest burner money could buy for a Mac (!!). I also have the two different (and very expensive — about $50 each new) HDI-30 SCSI adapter cables for the Wallstreet: one for connecting peripherals, the other for using my PB in SCSI Disk Mode, which I used to do to back up its hard drive.
FireWire 400 (but not FW 800) is fully supported in OS 9, unlike USB 2. Here is one inexpensive FW 400 adapter card, though there are many others to choose from. One caution: it would probably be advisable to stay away from the combination FW and USB cards. They seem to be troublesome more often, especially in OS 9, than one-trick-pony cards.
