PCMCIA card reader for Macbook pro

I'm looking for a card reader that is compatible with macbook pro. I receive data cards from clients that are PCMCIA format and looking for a device that can transfer information to the computer most likely through USB. It sounds pretty simple, but most media card readers out there support every possible card except PCMCIA.
So in answering my own question, I have found one device that is "known to work with Mac OS, but unsupported"
http://www.synchrotech.com/products/card-rw29_easyreaderusb2_ata_flash_pcmcia_pccards.html
In the application I'm using, it's not possible to transfer the information to another format and then import. Just curious if anyone else has come across this and has any advice.
Thanks
Andrew

Holy mackerel — a card reader that costs $285 and doesn't even include a USB cable! What will they think of next?
I think your problem would be a good reason to keep an old Powerbook in service. If you don't already have one, you could buy it for less than the reader, use it to read the incoming cards, and share the contents with your MBP over your network.
But this really makes me wonder what your clients are doing, that they bring you data on PCMCIA cards instead of some more convenient format.

  • PCMCIA Card Reader for MacBook or MacBook Pro to Read Panasonic P2 Cards

Is there a MacBook or MacBook Pro that comes with a PCMCIA slot that will accept the new Panasonic P2 cards that are used to capture the DVCProHD format? If not, is there an alternative to the Panasonic reader that uses an USB connection to send the information to the computer. Currently, the only way I can import the material is via the camera. Thanks for any help.

    Spot On!
I am completely sold on the technology and its future. I recently read an article on a future codec that will be available for the camera and card that will use the H.264 scheme in the compression. This will double the amount of content that a card will hold. In other words, from 8 gigs = 8 minutes to 8 gigs = 16 minutes. This will come in the form of a downloadable update for the camera and cards. REALLY COOL!!! You won't have to buy a new camera to take advantage of the improved codec.
As far as color reproduction, HDV cannot come close. If you look at the technical aspects of DVCPro HD vs. HDV, it's a "No Brainer."
    Happy Shooting!

Until somebody comes up with a specific recommendation, browse http://www.mac-sales.com (OWC)  They cater for the Mac community specifically and can tell you what works with a specific model.  Not always the rock-bottom cheapest but prices are not more than many others and you know you're getting something that works.

Has anyone used a SONNET Tempo™ SATA Pro ExpressCard/34 (Note I said "PRO" yes the expensive one) on a new MacBookPro with 4GB RAM running 10.5.8?
    Hi,
I use the Sonnet Tempo Pro ExpressCard with the SeriTek/2EN2 enclosure and the Mid-2009 17" MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5.8) with 4GB of memory. I have not experienced kernel panics with this configuration.
AMUG has just posted a FW800 review that also provides eSATA ExpressCard performance details. Look at the eSATA section in the Performance portion of the article for more information. The heading is: "How does an eSATA ExpressCard Compare?"

  • Second graphics card (Nvidia) for Macbook Pro (late 2011)?

    Hi,
I have a late 2011 17-inch Macbook Pro, and want to know whether it's possible to fit a second graphics card in there - and if so, where I could find a list of compatible cards.
What I am really aiming for is an Nvidia card with CUDA, since there are various applications I want to use that require CUDA.
If it's not possible to fit a second CUDA card in there, is it possible to replace the current card (AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB) with an Nvidia one?
    Thanks,
    S

Thanks for such a quick response, albeit not the one I was hoping to hear!

  • Video Card and Video Card Configurations for MacBook Pro

Does anyone know where I look to confirm which video card is in my MacBook Pro and also examine the current configurations and possibly look at configuration values for the video card.
I'm kind of new to Mac, but on the Windows world I would right click on the screen and then navigate to the Advanced Video card configurations. Is there something analogous in the Mac world?
    Thanks again.

    Hi Jason,
use the System Profiler app from the Applications/Utilities Folder to 'examine' the insides of your MBP.
You can also click on the Apple Icon in the Top Menu, choose About This Mac and the the More (Further) Informations button. (I have a german OSX...).
The only avaiable configuration options are found in the System Preferences (Display and Energy Savings).
    Have Fun

  • Max card reader for MacBook

Anyone know what the max MB cardreader will work with the MB? I have a 16GB SD card that my MB will not read with a cardreader that it supposed to work with a 16GB SD card. If anyone has a card reader that will support a 16 GB SD card, would you reply with the model number?
I wish the MB had a SD slot, but it is what it is.

You probably need a reader that handles sdhc cards as well as plain sd cards.

  • Graphics card reset for macbook pro

I keep getting pixelization from time to time on my screen when it boots up.  How can I reset the graphics card to try to get rid of it?

    Hi urbanexus,
It sounds like if it boots to a pixelated screen you need to reboot to make it normal again. As screen settings are held it PRAM, try resetting that.
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

  • Could anyone recommend a reliable card reader for my MacBook Pro please?

    Hi,
Looking for a reliable card reader for compact flash and SD cards for my MacBook Pro.  Would anyone be able to recommend one please?  Most reviews I've read only seem to mention Windows and I'm not sure whether they are Mac compatible.
    Many thanks, Karen

    Karen,
Hi, what year is you macbook pro?  Is it the Early 2008 one with the grey keyboard, or the newer ones with black keys?  If you have the grey keyboard macbook pro I use the Sandisk card reader:
For the newer MacBook Pro's a usb card reader works well in addition to the sd card reader built in the MacBook Pro.  They are making thunderbolt card readers now for a low price:http://computers.pricegrabber.com/flash-memory-readers-accessories/SmartDisk-THU NDERBOLT-SD-STICK-WRITER-USB/m16520521.html

  • Card reader for new Mac Pro?

what is a good card reader for the new Mac pro?

First this is the MacBook Pro forum, Notebook forum. Do you have a MacBool Pro Notebook or a Mac Pro Desktop?
Anyway any card reader made by one of the major CF/SD/MicroSD memory card manufacturers will work. Connecting to your Mac computer by USB, Firewire (If your Mac puter has a Firewire port) or even Thunderbolt if there are any that connect that way. As for USB connection you won't see much difference between USB 2 or 3. The cards limit the transfer speed more than the connection type.

After researching this topic, I found the placing an old SIM card in a new iPad would be impossible. There is no way for consumers to remove the back cover... Without dropping it off a building. My best suggestion: Use the current plan up first. Then buy a new plan.
