PCMCIA-GPIB won't pass Troubleshooting Wizard but Device Mgr reports no conflicts. WIn2000 OS.

GIPB Interfaces Sequentually verified fails. There are no IRQ or Address conflicts according to the Device Mgr. The Event Viewer says "... event ID (3) in source (gpibtnt) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registery information or message DLL files to display messages from the remote computer...".
I have uninstalled & installed the NI-488.2 s/w & the GPIB driver multiple times w/o success in passing the troubleshooting wizard.
I get a blue screen when I try to "Scan Devices".
I get a blue screen when I compile & run Microsoft C sample programs.
VISA seems to be working. At least it sees the devices that are on the bus.
I need t
o write a MS C program to talk to a HP E4408B Spectrum Analyzer. I need to setup the analyzer and then log data on disk. My main Calls will be "send() & receive()" and probably a few others. Is the problem with the troubleshooting wizard going to cause problems with these calls. What NI libraries will I need to do this using ANSI C with the Microsoft Developers Studio v. 6.0.
I am using WIN2000 on a Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop.
Thanks,
Dave Diener

Dave,
This could be an issue with the socket service being used to allocate the resources on the laptop. The posting below has a pretty good explanation of how to troubleshoot this (refer to the posting by Jason Hobbs). If that doesn't work I'd call into the NI Support center.
Best of luck,

  • I've tried everything--Firefox simply won't open. I opened the troubleshoot articles, but none of the fixes did the trick?

Firefox will not open. I tried every single troubleshoot recommendation, and it still won't work. I thought it may be under the "corrupt profile data" troubleshoot article, but when I followed the recommendations to change to a new profile, the profile manager would not open or run on my computer--as if it never existed. I tried downloading a different browser, and as soon as I imported my firefox data, it started misbehaving in the exact same way.

I am not sure it is a good idea to have two security programs, but presumably it will be ok if set correctly, but I certainly would not for instance run two Anti Virus programs they would be likely to conflict.
I am not sure if the error report may indicate Firefox is crashing but it needs the same steps anyway. So a brief explanation and a couple of suggestions.
    <u>Profiles</u><br/>
Before even considering deleting or creating profiles a very simple & quick test is always worthwhile, using Firefox's Safe Mode
*[[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
    * [[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data]]
Problems with the profile may prevent Firefox starting or cause all sorts of problems. <br />
(This is JUST FOR INFORMATION, I am not asking you to do anything.) <br/> Briefly the profile stores settings etc. and there are better options than just removing it. The simplest option is the Firefox Reset feature and although that looses extensions and some information it does at least retain bookmarks and passwords.
*[[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]]
More advanced users have better options available if they wish such as creating new clean profiles although it does need some care to be taken
    * [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
    <u>Program Files</u><br />
The profile and the main program files are completely separate. Possibly your problem is due to faulty program files or their installation. A clean install involves deleting these files rather than the profile files.
    <u>Next Steps</u>
    # Try starting Firefox in Safe Mode following the instructions from the article linked above. It probably will not help but is worth a try.
    # '''Do a clean reinstall'''
    ## you may want to copy or print the instructions
    ##download a new copy of the Firefox installer from <br /> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
##After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
##Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default: (Windows)
    ##*C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    ##*C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
##Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • PCMCIA-GPIB for win 2000 running on cPCI bus via a cPCI PC Card Adapter

We are trying to use a PCMCIA-GPIB for win 2000 running on cPCI bus via a cPCI PC Card Adapter. Our OS is WIN2K SP3 and we are running version 1.7 (latest) of the drivers. Unfortunately when using the "getting started" wizard and the "verify software and hardware installation" the system occasionally doesn't pass the third test. When it does, we try to scan for instruments using MAX Explorer to talk to a Agilent CW generator via GPIB but it cannot find the instrument. Doing the same thing on a laptop PC is successfully achieved. Any information on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Although it should be transparent to the PCMCIA card, I have also have had some problems with some adapters. Specifically, I have been able to install the card in a PCI-PCMCIA adapter form Qualtech, but not if I'm using a cPCI Cirrus Logig adapter. We haven't been able to find a cause for this.
If you need a GPIB interface in a cPCI system, you might consider the PXI-GPIB. PXI fully compliant with the cPCI standard.

I installed the Driver V1.60 on my PC,and the PC can identify the card as PCMCIA-GPIB.But It cannot tested pass,as I open the Device manager,I can see the card is errored as "cannoe start, the error code is code 10",
and the resouce all are "?".

    Hello,
This type of problem is difficult to diagnose without getting more information. Does it pass Diagnostics? If it fails, what part fails. Error 10 is not a common GPIB error. First I recommend going to http://www.ni.com/support/gpib/pnp2000/default.htm to troubleshoot.

  • Max Not Detecting PCMCIA GPIB Card

I'm having trouble getting NI MAX to detect that I have a PCMCIA GPIB Card in the computer.  The C-Drive under hardware manager knows it's in the slot and says it's working fine.  I tried to uninstall the GPIB Card so I could reinstall it but it won't let me.
I also tried adding hardware to MAX and selecting the PCMCIA card but it says that it can't be added.
I'm using the latest versions of GPIB, VISA, and MAX software that I can on a Windows 2000 computer.
    Thanks

    Hello,
When you say MAX is having trouble detecting the card, what exactly is happening? Do you see the card in MAX, but then you can't communicate with it? Does it show up with an error, or does it not show up at all? Could you give me the exact error message that you see. Are you using this on a laptop, or are you using a PCI-PCMCIA converter on a desktop? Does this happen on multiple computers? And just to verify, what version of NI-488.2 are you using? Hit <F5> in MAX to refresh the window and see if it shows up then. You could also try reinstalling the NI-488.2 driver, to see if it helps. Please let me know the answers to the questions above, and we can go from there to try to get this issue resolved. Thanks!

  • PCMCIA-GPIB and IBM 760XD Problem

I have two IBM 760XD identical laptops. Both have the latest BIOS update (hxet60ww). I've tried W2K SP1, WinME, and NT4 SP3 with similar results. I'm trying to use a PCMCIA- GPIB card and consistently get "One or more GPIB interfaces failed." at the "GPIB Interfaces Sequentially Verified" in the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard. NI-488.2 Software presence was verified as was the GPIB hardware presence verified. Double-click on the GPIB0 line and the Troubleshooting Wizard comes back with "Unknown Hardware Error" and various suggestions. I've tried the instructions (multiple reboots, card in/card out) to no avail. I've hot-inserted the card in W2K, the O/S installs the hardware, I reboot, same results. Same using
the NI-488.2 "Add GPIB Hardware". Version is ni488216. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If the revision number is C or lower, there can be problems and the card should be exchanged see http://www.ni.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?scope=knowledgebase&query=1D3CIEGX for more details.
It may be a defective card. If possible, try another PCMCIA-GPIB card in that system. If it does have to be returned, RMA's are only done through phone support (512-795-8248).

  • Problems with PCMCIA-GPIB card

    Hi all
I am using a PCMCIA-GPIB with driver version 2.2 on a Windows XP with a PCI-to-PCMCIA Adapter from Ricoh (device manager says: Ricoh R/RL/RT/RC/5C475II,R5C520 or compatible cardbus controller).
The Win XP detects the card without any problems and there are no resource conflicts.
However, I cannot communicate with GPIB devices and the NI-488.2 Troubleshooting Wizard says:
    1. NI-488.2 Software Presence = verified
    2. GPIB Hardware Presence =
And then a new screen: "The trouble shooting wizard has detect that no GPIB interfaces are configured on your system"
Can someone help me? There are no resource conflicts and I have also tried changing the PCI slot. The same problem also occurred when I installed the card in an
    other computer.
    Regards,
    Juan"

I have tested a RICOH PCMCIA to PCI Adapter card. The PCMCIA to PCI Adapter card was tested using different operating systems (Win2000,XP,98,95) and using a Micron computer PIII 650 processor. When testing under the XP environment, with service pack 1, NI's device drivers Version 1.7 failed to load. (Code 10) Ni's driver version 1.7 was then removed and NI's device driver Version 2.2 was loaded. I did not experience any commutation problem as long as I used the standard NI calls. I did experience a problem with NI’s IBDIAG function call which is not supported under Version 2.2.
I would recommend that you get the latest service pack for XP and NI’s device driver Version 2.2.

  • Windows Updater Not Installing and Troubleshooter Wizard Is Not Working???

I am in need help desperately!
I have tried to install the Windows 7 latest update since late October 2014 and every time that I have tried it has failed, this is messing with certain programs to either not run such as my Troubleshooter,
leaving me unable to fix the issue, and making my computer to run poorly as well as when I am on Firefox unable to load pages, do downloads, watch movies & TV, or watch videos on You Tube without having to move the mouse around to keep it running and just
freeze the picture on the You Tube and Xfinity but the sound keeps playing though. I am unable to run the Troubleshooter Wizard at all; gives me an error code  0x80131018. I have gone to the forums to find a solution I tried everything possible. Such
as trying to do all the maintenance; disc clean ups, compressing files to save on space, checking the disc drives for errors, defragmenting the drives, try to use the Fix It (MicrosoftFixit.malware.RNP.1343648269423620.1.1.Run,  as well as: MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.RNP.1343648269423620.2.1.Run,
as well as:  MicrosoftFixit.wu.FISC.1341772369343897.1.1.Run,   and:  MicrosoftFixit50123) all the these would not help.
I also tried to run what information I received from viewing options from the Error Code 0x80131018 and all the HP Support Assistant and Windows Help and Support. These are some of them;  SCUDownloader,
    Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64,   HPSupportSolutionsFramework-en-11.51.0048,   HPSupportSolutionsFramework-11.51.0048,   HP CoolSense Technology - sp65424,   HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) - sp55068,
HP Power Manager Utility Software - sp55151,   HP On-Screen Display Utility - sp55152,   HP System Diagnostics UEFI - sp52407, and    Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver - sp55101. All these with running the maintenance,
I also installed Boost, also ran the scans through my Norton Security, and so much more to try and fix this problem, I just can't remember everything that I tried I have been working so hard at solving this problem since of the effect of how this Windows Updater
failing at updating and Troubleshooter not working to leaving me unable to find and fix these issues.
I am a Graphic Design Artist and I am pretty computer savvy but I am at a loss on this . If anyone has any advise on these issues please help me ASAP, I use my HP everyday and it is important for
me to have it for work purposes, concepts and so much more. My Mother got this computer for me when I graduated from college in 2012 for my graduation gift so I can do what I do.
Thank you so much for your help in trying to get this resolved without having to take it into somewhere and pay $$ that I do not have.

I recently had a similar problem - Windows 7 Ultimate. Apart from updates not installing and troubleshooters not running I started getting crashes and BSOD's
I checked that my Cryptographic services was set to auto (it was)
Press the 'Windows key" and and key "R" together   to launch the  RUN  box. Type
services.msc in the box and press Enter. It'll open Services Manager.
Scroll down to  "Cryptographic Services" in the list. It should be set to Auto ( mine was)
I then checked my Windows updates to see when the problem started
Taking the bull by the horns I deleted the last 20 updates installed.
I restarted the computer and was amazed to find the troubleshooters working ok
I downloaded the Windows updates and installed them 5 at a time checking the troubleshooter after each batch. Everything was ok .
I can only assume the troublesome update was not re-offered or the one that installed itself was corrupt.

  • HT203163 I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; as secure link to itunes store failed. I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works.....

I am not able to access to iphone updates/store; it displays the message under diagnostics 'secure link to itunes store failed'.
I tried to turn firewall off, reinstall itunes and other troubleshoot options but none of them works......
    Please help.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?

  • GPIB communication with GPIB (NI PCMCIA-GPIB)card in Visual Basic

I have a old program in Visual Basic which works fine in windows 98 using the desktop, but using my laptop with windows 2000 on it and NI PCMCIA-GPIB card it fails to communicate and running the program does not recognize the sendIFC command. I am new to VB, so can someone tell me what am I missing here. thanks

    Hello,
Is the PCMCIA card recognized by the NI-488.2 driver on your laptop? Are you able to communicate from Measurement and Automation with your instrument? What do you mean it does not recognize the sendIFC command? Does Visual Basic give you a runtime or a compile time error? Are you using the latest version of the driver? (Usually 2.1 unless you're on 95 or NT with your card)
You can try out the Visual Basic language examples in the 488.2 directory under Languages as these will let you know whether or not the driver is installed correctly.

  • DRM epubs won't pass page 168

I have purchased 4 books from Google Books, which are all DRM protected, and opened them in Adobe Digital Editions.  The metadata for each book as far as pages is showing 168, though the books are far longer than 168 pages.  When opened in ADE I can read past 168, but when loaded on my eReader it won't pass page 168 on any of the books.  The Table of Contents even shows page 168 as the starting page for SEVERAL chapters, but I cannot read past the first page in the chapter when I move to it.  Like stated above, I can read the whole book in ADE, but on my eReader I cannot.
What I did try was to remove the DRM from the books using some software found online.  When this is done it changes the book to a "Demo version" and I only get bits and pieces of the books I purchased.  This is extremely frustrating and I was hoping that someone may be able to help with this issue.

Hold on a moment....  One new fact emerges, and I want to put it into
    perspective.
It's really easy for the techs to use a different definition of 'Adobe'
software.  DRM protection is implemented in some systems using Adobe
Content Server 4 (CS4 for short) routines.  If the techs are talking about
DRM protection, then they might not be talking about what Digital Editions
does - and the Adobe techs think that you're telling them that the ebooks
    were downloaded into Digital Editions.
You mention working on the ebooks with Calibre to convert them from .pdf to
.epub so 'the NOOK Color recognizes' them.  When you did that, you may
not have ended up putting them where Calibre puts them, not into the
Digital Editions library.  Digital Editions won't 'see' the ebooks unless
they are in the My Digital Editions library.  There is a way to do that -
    one ebook at a time.....
You should be able to use Calibre to transfer the ebooks you converted to
the NOOK.  If that's not working, it truly is not a Digital Editions issue,
nor an Adobe issue.  It's between Calibre and the NOOK.  And if you're not
tech savvy, as you say, then it's really easy to get confused when the
techs use their own assumptions to address your issues.  Don't get angry -
it's been this way forever.  Techs tend to miss the human side of the
    equation.
Somewhere along the line, I may have suggested that you reset the NOOK.  I
am also wondering how well the Calibre conversion went, because I'm not
aware of that feature in Calibre.  Any time there is a conversion, there's
always the potential for error to occur, and that the results won't be
useful or at least what you expected.  Also, I don't know how NOOKs treat
.pdf files other than what you've said.  It would be strange to me to think
that the NOOK would not be capable of formatting pages.  It's possible that
something happened during the initial download of the .pdfs.  If so, then
is what we're discussing now the result of a bunch of bad downloads?
One more technical point.  If you downloaded the ebooks, did you wait until
the NOOK told you it had finished processing the new content (or words to
that effect) before you disconnected it from your computer?
