PCMCIA Network Card Drivers

I hope that this hasn't been posted already. I want to be able to use my Solaris 8 (intel) with my laptop computer. But I am having a devil of a time finding the drivers to make the Xircom RealPort Ethernet 10/100 (RE-100) NIC. The closest that I have found was the PCMCIA driver softwate from Lynnsoft for $100.00. I would sooner continue using Linux.Could someone please point me in the right direction. I have read the Hardware Compatability List, but to be homest, I just ended up confused. The PCMCIA entries that I found there and in the patch database did not give me the warm fuzzy that I was looking for before wiping out my HD to install Solaris 8 on and get on the Net. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help and your patience.

Welcome to the Lenovo Community!
The factory update page only shows the diskette method (other systems also have an option to use the hard drive; typically this is called "non-diskette"). This thread:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11244
appears to say that you can take a BIOS update floppy (created on a system which obviously has a floppy drive) and then use Nero to create a bootable copy on a CD. I have not personally tried this but it seems like it should work. Unless the BIOS updater checks to see if the media it's running off of is writable .
Also note that the BIOS update requires a working battery. However, there is a hack for that:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=782638
For about $10 you can get a 05K8874 floppy drive off of eBay and then you won't have to do this at all. In fact, if you get the external housing along with the floppy, you can basically have a three-spindle system; hard drive, Ultraslimbay CD drive and the external floppy. The floppy drive can be removed from the housing and installed in the Ultraslimbay if needed.

  • Do I need to reinstall my network card drivers?

I just got off the phone with a second level tech from Adelphia. I called because webpages are taking a long time to load (among other things). All the tests he ran checked out fine. He said that I needed to contact Apple and have them help me uninstall and then reinstall my network card drivers.
Has anyone heard of this? If so, can someone step me through it? Thanks

  • T520 won't detect Network card in WDS/WinPE/Ghost image disk

    Hello all,
I figured I would just post this so I could save 2 days of someone elses life.
I'm not sure how many other modes have the EFI and UEFI bios's in them but this has caused a lot of problems when trying to capture an image / image the Lenovo T520.  So for anyone else that is having these problems here is how I got around the problem.
    The Problem:
While trying to boot up off a Capture image with a CD or PXE boot for our WDS server the laptop would not detect the network card giving no IP address and listing the adapter as a hybrid.  When trying to do a ipconfig /renew it would give an error around the lines of the loopback something or other ....... the adapter could not be contacted or initated.
I instantly thought this was due to the vanila WinPE / Capture image not having the drivers for the Lenovoo T520, so I went to the website downloaded the new drivers and injected them into the WinPE disk(You will want ot use the NDIS Drivers which are included in the package for this).  Following this process it would still not detect or install the NIC.  After many hours of searching it would apear this was due to the EFI/UEFI bios options not going through the proper boot cycle when in a PE enviroment.  The solution was to mess around with the EFI/UEFI switches in the WinPE boot image during the creation proccess as listed below:
    ocdimg -m -o -u2 -udfver102 -bootdata:2#p0,e,bc:\winpe_x64\etfsboot.com#pEF,e,bc:\winpe_x64\efisys.bin c:\winpe_x64\ISO c:\winpe_x64\winpeuefi.iso
The link with more details is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947024
Eseentially once the new boot image was complied with the proper EFI / UEFI options enabled it went through the proper boot process detected the NIC and installed the drivers which I previously provided on the disk and we where off to the races imaging the new laptop.
Hopefull this will help some others who are struggling with this or any other model that has this type of bios.
    Cheers, and thanks
Please feel free to post any additional comments to help others if you found better ways to get around this
One side note the EFI/UEFI to legacy mode only does nothing for the NIC problem, I have seen some posts where they can help with the hard drive issues when imaging, however as for the nic not loading in PE enviroments this setting in the BIOS did not reslove the problem.

    Hi Rusty1234
If I did not remember wrongly, you may present or add drivers (network, hardware) under WDS / Ghost software or copy necessary drivers (e.g. your T520 network card drivers) under it's PXE / boot section.
    Happy 2012!

  • Satellite A500-15N: Can't find Network card XP driver

    Hi everyone,
I've just blown away vista on my new A500-15N and installed XP + SP2.
The install went OK but I now have some issues with certain devices not working.
    They are: 3 x Base System Device's, 1 x Ethernet Controller, 1 x Network Controller, 2 x PCI Device's, 1 x SM Bus Controller, 1 x Unknown device and 1 x Video Controller (VGA Compatible).
I thought I would be able to load some Network card drivers to enable access to the internet and then be able to download everything else, either automatically or manually. But I can't get any network card drivers to load!!!!!!!
After loading some from the Toshiba web site, it didn't make any difference.
I deleted and then autodetect the network card from device manager but I cannot find any of the installed drivers to get it working.
Does anyone know what I can do to cure this or any of the other issues?
    Thanks
    MrAngry

    Hi
Do you need the LAN or Wlan card driver or both drivers?
As far as I know the LAN card chip is from Realtek (1GB/s) and the WLAN is Intel 5100AGN.
The WLan driver can be found here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945/4965/5100/5300
The LAN driver can be found on the Realtek page:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/
You can check the Toshiba European driver page. Other notebooks series uses the same Realtek LAN card and the driver should run too.

  • Drivers for network card Extreme 802.11 n

I´m running Mac OS X and windows vista on bootcamp.
Mac OS X is functional, ofcourse, but Vista doesn't recognise the network card.
I need Windows drivers for this.
    Where can I find this?

I know you may have already tried this but have you already installed the boot camp drivers on vista? They can be found on the Leopard install disc. The drivers for all hardware should be on that.

  • Drivers for the sunfire v20z network card.

does any one know were i could find the drivers for the sunfire v20z network card. and does anyone know the chipset of the card?

    That's a software question.
    This is a hardware forum.
You didn't specify, but I'll presume you are not talking about any add-on card.
The necessary software packages for the onboard
broadcom BCM5703 gigabit (bge) circuitry are native to Solaris x86 (4/04 and newer).
Therefore they'll be on your OS installation CD's.
Just install the OS and rock-n-roll.

  • PCMCIA Wlan card is not detected: Error 1058: service cannot be started

    PLEASE HELP!
I am running WXP Pro for over 2 years and I have been connecting to the internet via a wireless pc card in my laptops PCMCIA slot with no problems. Suddenly last week it started to randomly disconnect and reconnect, and now it has gone off completely.
I bought a new WiFi card and still didn't work. I have checked the device manager and the PCMCIA cardbus driver is working fine as is every other device. The wireless card driver and some other network related drivers fail to start no matter what I try and how many times I try. I have tried another laptop and both my old card and the new one work fine.
All the device driver that I try to start have the error
"Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."
The card driver is installed, just not starting, it's like the laptop cannot detect or see the card in the slot
Please help; I am having trouble finding anyone with the same problem after a week of searching the web.

    Hi
This behavior can occur if the service is disabled or if the service is disabled for the hardware profile that you are currently using.
To enable the service do this:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
    2. Double-click the service that did not start.
    3. Click the Log On tab.
    4. Verify that the service has not been disabled for the hardware profile that you are using. If it has, click Enable.
    5. Click the General tab. Verify that the service has not been disabled in the Startup Type box. If it has, click Automatic to have it start when you start the computer.
This was described here in the MS knowledge base article

  • Updated bios via Live Update and now my Network card isn't detected

I have an msi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard and I updated some drivers and the bios via msi Live Update 6 last night and now my computer refuses to recognize my network adapter. The adapter is a TRENDnet N600, plugs into PCIe if I'm not mistaken. Wifi if my only option with this computer, I can't use ethernet, so it's really important I get the network card working again. I have had zero issues with it until this.
The reason I was updating was to try to get my third monitor to work when plugged into the mobo, while my other two were plugged into the graphics card (which I also installed yesterday, but it's working fine). Note that it still was not working, but I had enabled the IGD Multi-Monitor from bios.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try uninstalling the drivers but it still won't detect the network card. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the network card (and I cleaned the port for good measure).
I've only been using Windows computers for a year, so bear with me if there's stuff I don't know. Thanks in advance. I can try to get a full list of what was installed later tonight, but all of it that I can find has been uninstalled at this point.
Note: I did not flash the bios when I installed, which I have now heard is a bad idea, apparently. l:

  • How do I find out what network 'card' is in my DV6700?

There are umpteen numbers of various DV6700's...the only model number I show on mine is DV6700....yet, the driver info does not list a wired driver..only wireless.  I need the 'car' manufacturer and the driver for windows XP.  How and where do I get this information?  (My hard drive failed and I had to install Windows XP Pro, cold, from a Microsoft CD and it did not have any laptop drivers that were recognized by my laptop.)
    Thanks in advance

Really there are only 2 versions, Intel and AMD. If you have AMD the network card is driven by the chipset driver for the nVidia chipset which you can get for Windows XP:
Everything you need is explained here:

  • Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Installation Did Not Install Network Card

I just installed a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition on a new Mid 2013 MBA. The install ran the support software and installed the drivers. However I don't show any network cards in my Windows 8.1 installation. I reran the support sw manually and it went through and supposedly fixed any driver errors but I still don't see a network card or have a network connection. It works just fine in my OSX partition, so it is definately a driver issue. *** do I need to do to get the network driver installed?

In Thehatters defence, this was initially posted in the MacbookPro forum and then moved to Boot Camp,
If you have any joy solving your trackpad device driver issue, feel free to post here (there might be a similar fix for my  wireless adapter device)
