PCP Configuration on 11i RAC

Hi All,
We've 2 Concurrent Manager nodes & 2 node for forms in a 2 node RAC environment. I've gone through few docs on PCP config and configuration what we've did in our environment is confusing me a lot .
Summary of our CM's(concurrent Mgr) configuration in our environment to make my questions help better for you people to answer :)
1. PCP instance check profile option is set to OFF.
2. s_cp_twotask => xxxx is configured to connect to only one instance but failover is allowed to Node 2.
3. As per point 2 all our CM's are being connected to Node 1 only.
4. For all the Managers we've edited both primary & seconday except for service managers. Is that right ?
Here are my questions to answer ?
1. At the moment we'll start all the concurent managers in Node 1 but we only start the apps listener in Node 2. Is this right ? by considering above config if not please correct me.
2. As per my understanding if all the concurrent mgr are starting in Node 1. But still FNDIMON & FNDSM should be up and running in Node 2 ? incase of any failover in Node 1 FNDIMON should be able to start Internal manager in Node 2 ?
3. Will FNDSM executable is spawned after starting Apps listener script in Node 2 ?
4. Some of the below errors are seen continiously in Concurrent mgr logfile . But our mgr's are running fine with out any issues why do i still see below errors in the log files if so ?

Hi,
I'll try to find out for you if the 11.2 gateways can take advantage of any of the new RAC features.

  • CONCURRENT MANAGER SETUP AND CONFIGURATION REQUIREMENTS IN AN 11I RAC ENVIR

    제품 : AOL
    작성날짜 : 2004-05-13
    PURPOSE
RAC-PCP 구성에 대한 Setup 사항을 기술한 문서입니다.
PCP 구현은 CM의 workload 분산, Failover등을 목적으로 합니다.
    Explanation
Failure sceniro 는 다음 3가지로 구분해 볼수 있습니다.
    1. The database instance that supports the CP, Applications, and Middle-Tier
processes such as Forms, or iAS can fail.
    2. The Database node server that supports the CP, Applications, and Middle-
Tier processes such as Forms, or iAS can fail.
    3. The Applications/Middle-Tier server that supports the CP (and Applications)
    base can fail.
    아래부분은 CM,AP 구성과
CM과 GSM(Global Service Management)과의 관계를 설명하고 있습니다.
The concurrent processing tier can reside on either the Applications, Middle-
Tier, or Database Tier nodes. In a single tier configuration, non PCP
environment, a node failure will impact Concurrent Processing operations do to
any of these failure conditions. In a multi-node configuration the impact of
any these types of failures will be dependent upon what type of failure is
experienced, and how concurrent processing is distributed among the nodes in
the configuration. Parallel Concurrent Processing provides seamless failover
for a Concurrent Processing environment in the event that any of these types of
    failures takes place.
In an Applications environment where the database tier utilizes Listener (
server) load balancing is implemented, and in a non-load balanced environment,
there are changes that must be made to the default configuration generated by
Autoconfig so that CP initialization, processing, and PCP functionality are
initiated properly on their respective/assigned nodes. These changes are
described in the next section - Concurrent Manager Setup and Configuration
Requirements in an 11i RAC Environment.
The current Concurrent Processing architecture with Global Service Management
consists of the following processes and communication model, where each process
is responsible for performing a specific set of routines and communicating with
    parent and dependent processes.
아래 내용은 PCP환경에서 ICM, FNDSM, IM, Standard Manager의 역활을 설명하고
    있습니다.
Internal Concurrent Manager (FNDLIBR process) - Communicates with the Service
    Manager.
The Internal Concurrent Manager (ICM) starts, sets the number of active
processes, monitors, and terminates all other concurrent processes through
requests made to the Service Manager, including restarting any failed processes.
The ICM also starts and stops, and restarts the Service Manager for each node.
The ICM will perform process migration during an instance or node failure.
    The ICM will be
active on a single node. This is also true in a PCP environment, where the ICM
will be active on at least one node at all times.
Service Manager (FNDSM process) - Communicates with the Internal Concurrent
Manager, Concurrent Manager, and non-Manager Service processes.
The Service Manager (SM) spawns, and terminates manager and service processes (
these could be Forms, or Apache Listeners, Metrics or Reports Server, and any
other process controlled through Generic Service Management). When the ICM
    terminates the SM that
resides on the same node with the ICM will also terminate. The SM is ?hained?
to the ICM. The SM will only reinitialize after termination when there is a
function it needs to perform (start, or stop a process), so there may be
periods of time when the SM is not active, and this would be normal. All
    processes initialized by the SM
inherit the same environment as the SM. The SM environment is set by APPSORA.
env file, and the gsmstart.sh script. The TWO_TASK used by the SM to connect
to a RAC instance must match the instance_name from GV$INSTANCE. The apps_<sid>
listener must be active on each CP node to support the SM connection to the
    local instance. There
should be a Service Manager active on each node where a Concurrent or non-
    Manager service process will reside.
Internal Monitor (FNDIMON process) - Communicates with the Internal Concurrent
    Manager.
The Internal Monitor (IM) monitors the Internal Concurrent Manager, and
restarts any failed ICM on the local node. During a node failure in a PCP
environment the IM will restart the ICM on a surviving node (multiple ICM's may
be started on multiple nodes, but only the first ICM started will eventually
remain active, all others will gracefully terminate). There should be an
Internal Monitor defined on each node
    where the ICM may migrate.
Standard Manager (FNDLIBR process) - Communicates with the Service Manager and
    any client application process.
The Standard Manager is a worker process, that initiates, and executes client
requests on behalf of Applications batch, and OLTP clients.
Transaction Manager - Communicates with the Service Manager, and any user
process initiated on behalf of a Forms, or Standard Manager request. See Note:
240818.1 regarding Transaction Manager communication and setup requirements for
    RAC.
Concurrent Manager Setup and Configuration Requirements in an 11i RAC
    Environment
PCP를 사용하기위한 기본적인 Setup 절차를 설명하고 있습니다.
In order to set up Setup Parallel Concurrent Processing Using AutoConfig with
    GSM,
follow the instructions in the 11.5.8 Oracle Applications System Administrators
    Guide
under Implementing Parallel Concurrent Processing using the following steps:
    1. Applications 11.5.8 and higher is configured to use GSM. Verify the
configuration on each node (see WebIV Note:165041.1).
    2. On each cluster node edit the Applications Context file (<SID>.xml), that
resides in APPL_TOP/admin, to set the variable <APPLDCP oa_var="s_appldcp">
ON </APPLDCP>. It is normally set to OFF. This change should be performed
    using the Context Editor.
    3. Prior to regenerating the configuration, copy the existing tnsnames.ora,
listener.ora and sqlnet.ora files, where they exist, under the 8.0.6 and iAS
ORACLE_HOME locations on the each node to preserve the files (i.e./<some_
    directory>/<SID>ora/$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<SID>/tnsnames.ora). If any of
the Applications startup scripts that reside in COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts/<SID>
have been modified also copy these to preserve the files.
    4. Regenerate the configuration by running adautocfg.sh on each cluster node as
    outlined in Note:165195.1.
    5. After regenerating the configuration merge any changes back into the
tnsnames.ora, listener.ora and sqlnet.ora files in the network directories,
and the startup scripts in the COMMON_TOP/admin/scripts/<SID> directory.
Each nodes tnsnames.ora file must contain the aliases that exist on all
other nodes in the cluster. When merging tnsnames.ora files ensure that each
node contains all other nodes tnsnames.ora entries. This includes tns
entries for any Applications tier nodes where a concurrent request could be
initiated, or request output to be viewed.
    6. In the tnsnames.ora file of each Concurrent Processing node ensure that
there is an alias that matches the instance name from GV$INSTANCE of each
Oracle instance on each RAC node in the cluster. This is required in order
for the SM to establish connectivity to the local node during startup. The
entry for the local node will be the entry that is used for the TWO_TASK in
APPSORA.env (also in the APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.env file referenced in the
    Applications Listener [APPS_<SID>] listener.ora file entry "envs='MYAPPSORA=<
    some directory>/APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.env)
on each node in the cluster (this is modified in step 12).
    7. Verify that the FNDSM_<SID> entry has been added to the listener.ora file
under the 8.0.6 ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/<SID> directory. See WebiV Note:
165041.1 for instructions regarding configuring this entry. NOTE: With the
implementation of GSM the 8.0.6 Applications, and 9.2.0 Database listeners
must be active on all PCP nodes in the cluster during normal operations.
    8. AutoConfig will update the database profiles and reset them for the node
from which it was last run. If necessary reset the database profiles back to
    their original settings.
    9. Ensure that the Applications Listener is active on each node in the cluster
where Concurrent, or Service processes will execute. On each node start the
database and Forms Server processes as required by the configuration that
    has been implemented.
    10. Navigate to Install > Nodes and ensure that each node is registered. Use
the node name as it appears when executing a nodename?from the Unix prompt on
the server. GSM will add the appropriate services for each node at startup.
    11. Navigate to Concurrent > Manager > Define, and set up the primary and
secondary node names for all the concurrent managers according to the
desired configuration for each node workload. The Internal Concurrent
Manager should be defined on the primary PCP node only. When defining the
Internal Monitor for the secondary (target) node(s), make the primary node (
local node) assignment, and assign a secondary node designation to the
Internal Monitor, also assign a standard work shift with one process.
    12. Prior to starting the Manager processes it is necessary to edit the APPSORA.
env file on each node in order to specify a TWO_TASK entry that contains
the INSTANCE_NAME parameter for the local nodes Oracle instance, in order
to bind each Manager to the local instance. This should be done regardless
of whether Listener load balancing is configured, as it will ensure the
configuration conforms to the required standards of having the TWO_TASK set
to the instance name of each node as specified in GV$INSTANCE. Start the
Concurrent Processes on their primary node(s). This is the environment
that the Service Manager passes on to each process that it initializes on
behalf of the Internal Concurrent Manager. Also make the same update to
the file referenced by the Applications Listener APPS_<SID> in the
    listener.ora entry "envs='MYAPPSORA= <some directory>/APPS<SID>_<HOSTNAME>.
    env" on each node.
    13. Navigate to Concurrent > Manager > Administer and verify that the Service
Manager and Internal Monitor are activated on the secondary node, and any
other addititional nodes in the cluster. The Internal Monitor should not be
active on the primary cluster node.
    14. Stop and restart the Concurrent Manager processes on their primary node(s),
and verify that the managers are starting on their appropriate nodes. On
the target (secondary) node in addition to any defined managers you will
see an FNDSM process (the Service Manager), along with the FNDIMON process (
    Internal Monitor).

What is your database version? OS?
We are using VCP suite for Planning Purpose. We are using VCP environment (12.1.3) in Decentralized structure connecting to 3 differect source environment ( consisting 11i and R12). As per the Oracle Note {RAC Configuration Setup For Running MRP Planning, APS Planning, and Data Collection Processes [ID 279156]} we have implemented RAC in our test environment to get better performance.
But after doing all the setups and concurrent programs assignment to different nodes, we are seeing huge performance issue. The Complete Collection which takes generally on an avg 180 mins in Production, is taking more than 6 hours to complete in RAC.
So I would like to get suggestion from this forum, if anyone has implemented RAC in pure VCP (decentralized) environment ? Will there be any improvement if we make our VCP Instance in RAC ?Do you PCP enabled? Can you reproduce the issue when you stop the CM?

  • How Do I Configure SSL for RAC Installation.

    Experts,
Requesting your inputs on configuring SSL for my RAC environment.
    - Oracle DB version is 11.2.0.2
    - RAC is with two nodes.
    - Two nodes are : rac1.oracle.com and rac2.oracle.com
    - RAC setup has SCAN feature configured. SCAN FQDN : racscan.oracle.com
    - All clients talk to RAC DB using SCAN feature as shown below.
    client applications -> racscan.oracle.com ---> rac1.oracle.com
    ---> rac2.oracle.com
    - tnsnames.ora file on both RAC instances has hostname as "racscan.oracle.com" instead of their individual phyiscal host names.
How do I configure SSL for RAC:
    1. Do I need to generate certificate request for individual hostnames or only for SCAN hostname ?.
    2. If I generate a certificate based on SCAN hostname, how does SSL work since SCAN hostname is not a phyiscal host name ?
    3. What is recommended strategy for configuring SSL for RAC environment ?
    Thanks

The documentation on the creation of Oracle Wallets is not specific to RAC, and the RAC SCAN instructions for TCPS are very vague on the specific requirements for the certificates required in the wallets for proper operation. I too am struggling to get it to work. Does anyone have a more technical guide to the specific configuration of the certificates needed and what specific configuration file changes need to be made?
Also, the self signed documentation is getting REALLY old. Oracle, please stop giving instructions that demonstrate irresponsibility and show the proper method of certificate requesting and importing to wallets.

  • DMZ Apache with OAS WebCache configuration for 11i

    Hi,
We have the following configuration in place (using note DMZ Configuration with Oracle E-Business Suite 11i [ID 287176.1])
    1. Browser (https) --> Internet --> |firewall| --> DMZ Apache reverse proxy server (https) --> |firewall| --> External 11i webtier (http) --> Internal 11i apptier --> Database
Now, we want to change it, so that the following configuration can work.
    2. Browser (https) --> Internet --> |firewall| --> DMZ Apache reverse proxy server (https) --> |firewall| --> OAS WebCache (https) --> Internal 11i apptier --> Database
no cluster, no load balancer, no RAC in this configuration.
The user access are the same in #1 and #2: External users access 11i via "partners.external.com", while internal users use "employees.internal.com". Apache server in DMZ is the Entry Point.
Note "Installing and Configuring Web Cache 10.1.2 and Oracle E-Business Suite 11i [ID 306653.1]" is to set up WebCache as Entry Point for 11i. If we use it, external users are not able to access 11i system with "partners.external.com".
    Question:
can #2 configuration be set up and work? which Oracle doucuments to follow?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
with following steps in 306653.1, profiles s_webentryhost and s_login_page are set with WebCache servername.
The access for internal users is working with URL https://webcachesername.internal.com/oa_servlets/AppsLogin
but external users cannot log in: at logon page, after typing username/password,
the logon page is refreshed back to the same logon page. If typing a wrong password, "Login failed" error shows as expected.

  • Urgent help needed in configuring X1151A for RAC cluster

for RAC requirements I have to configure this card to use the interface name of ce1 but I have tried changing slots and puting /etc/hostname.ce1 file out there but it fails .. it always comes up as ce0.
my question is : How can I cofigure this card to come up as ce1 ? in the other box I had to do nothing .. i just placed the /etc/hostname.ce1 file with hostname and it works perfect.
can you please email me a copy of your response at [email protected] ?
    thanks
    Sami

Look for "ce" instances in the /etc/path_to_inst file. You'll need to change the lines so that the hardware path you want is "1".
Keep a backup and write down the pathname. You can give that path to a 'boot -a' prompt if anything bad happens.

  • 10g grid agent installation and configuration on oracle RAC

    Hi All,
I have one two node RAC setup on HP-UX itanium platform and I want to install oracle 10g grid agent on both the RAC nodes to monitor the RAC instances and databases and OMS repository server is ready and running. Only I have installed agents on both the nodes, but tns entry and hosts files on OMS server and both the nodes modified.
But, nodes are not getting automatically discovered by OMS server. And what is the command to configure the grid agent on RAC instances.
I have to install grid agent on both the nodes individually or it can be installed on single node and can be integrated with other node.
Please help me out in this regard.......
    Thanks in Advance,

Similar problem and installation does not detect the rac nodes and installation is done locally which does not help the situation..By the way we all consult documentation and the whole point of having a forum is so we have a potential fix or work around and not link from here to documentation. Just to mention :)

  • Arivelog mode configuration proble in RAC database

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure RAC database in archivelog mode but when try to do so get the following error, during the database startup in mount state
LRM-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/dbs/initorcl.ora'
This error shows that the system could not find the initorcl.ora and really it does not exist. But the system at this stage is single
instance as I chenged the value of cluster_database=false before shutdown and then start.
when I enter the command startup mount it give me this error. What should I do to avoid it. Should I make a pfile of this from spfile in cluster mode
and then put this pfile in the desired path to start the single instance or any other thing should I tried.
    Regards,
    Abbasi

Perform the following steps to relocate the SPFILE from the local file system to an ASM disk group.
        * Create a text-based initialization parameter file from the current binary SPFILE located on the local file system:
          SQL> CREATE PFILE='$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initTESTDB.ora'
            2  FROM SPFILE='$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileTESTDB.ora';
          File created.
        * Create new SPFILE in an ASM disk group:
          SQL> CREATE SPFILE='+TESTDB_DATA1/TESTDB/spfileTESTDB.ora'
            2  FROM PFILE='$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initTESTDB.ora';
          File created.
        * Shutdown the Oracle database:
          SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE
          Database closed.
          Database dismounted.
          ORACLE instance shut down.
        * Update the text-based init<SID>.ora file with the new location of the SPFILE in ASM:
          $ echo "SPFILE='+TESTDB_DATA1/TESTDB/spfileTESTDB.ora'" > $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/initTESTDB.ora
        * Remove (actually rename) the old SPFILE on the local file system so that the new text-based init<SID>.ora will be used:
          $ mv $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/spfileTESTDB.ora $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/BACKUP_ASM.spfileTESTDB.ora
        * Open the Oracle database using the new SPFILE:
          SQL> STARTUPsource:-http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Automatic_Storage_Management/ASM_33.shtml#Migrating%20Oracle%20Database%20from%20Local%20File%20System%20to%20ASM

    HI,
For your home testing you might need a latest technology to get a smooth and fast installation. i7 processor might be the ideal with memory at least 8GB. if you're planning to have more than 3 VMs running at the same time than you need 12-16GB memory at least.
From my experience installing on vm and allocated memory 2.5GB each VM the installation could take 15-30minutes

  • Regarding Hangcheck timer configuration in Oracle RAC 10g r2 installation

    Hi,
Is it necessary to configure hangcheck timer in Oracle RAC 10g R2 installation .
Can somebody guide when we should install the hangcheck timer in Linux oracle 10g R2.
    Best Regards
    Gupteswar Prasad Mishra
Edited by: Gupteswar on Jan 25, 2010 8:42 PM

yes, its recommended to configure hangcheck timer in RAC configuration
    Configure the Hangcheck Timer
The hang-check timer is loaded into the Linux kernel and checks if the system hangs. It will set a timer and check the timer after a certain amount of time. There is a configurable threshold to hang-check that, if exceeded will reboot the machine. Although the hangcheck-timer module is not required for Oracle Clusterware (Cluster Manager) operation, it is highly recommended by Oracle.
    cat /etc/rc.local

Hi everyone, during the configurarion of every RDB in System 11.1.1.2, I'm able to use "loadbalanced" JDBC URL (by using "advanced options" in the Oracle Hyperion EPM Configurator) --- Thanks for that DataDirect Connect® for JDBC Drivers v3.7!!
But when creating Planning datasources I have no option to enter custom JDBC URL in order to connect to the RAC (load balanced JDBC URL).
Should I manually change the JDBC URL in the Planning System schema? (HSP_DATASOURCES table).
    It is a supported configuration???
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    JavierV

    Hi everyone,
I have successfully configured my Planning Datasource with RAC capabilities, I have achieved that by changing the JDBC URL from the backend (by modifying the HSPSYS_DATASOURCE table in Planning System Catalog).
    FYI:
Planning 11.1.1.2 comes by default with 2 JDBC libraries:*
    *$HYPERION_HOME/deployments/WebLogic9/servers/HyperionPlanning/webapps/HyperionPlanning/WEB-INF/lib/hyjdbc.jar*
    That ships the following classes:
    hyperion.jdbc.base.BaseDriver
    hyperion.jdbc.db2.DB2Driver
    hyperion.jdbc.informix.InformixDriver
    hyperion.jdbc.mysql.MySQLDriver
    hyperion.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver
    hyperion.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    hyperion.jdbc.sybase.SybaseDriver
    hyperion.jdbcspy.SpyDriver
    +$HYPERION_HOME/deployments/WebLogic9/servers/HyperionPlanning/webapps/HyperionPlanning/WEB-INF/lib/jdbc12.jar+
    That ships the following classes:
    oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver
    oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Both Oracle Drivers (Hyperion or Oracle) supports RAC configuration, but you have be careful about each driver’s JDBC connection syntax:
JDBC sample URL for connecting to a RAC (Hyperion JDBC Driver):
    jdbc:hyperion:oracle://<servername>:1521;ServiceName=<sid>;LoadBalancing=true;AlternateServers=(<servername>:1521;ServiceName=<sid>)
JDBC sample URL for connecting to a RAC (Oracle JDBC Driver):
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(FAILOVER=on)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(host=<servername>)(port=1521))(ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(<servername>)(port=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=<sid>)))
As an additional note, RDB_SERVER_URL field is VARCHAR2(255 Byte) so the JDBC URL must not exceed this limitation.
    Best regards everyone.

  • Time synchoronization while configuring Oracle 10g RAC

I am installing Oracle 10g RAC on 3 EHEL5.0 systems. The problem is the time can not be synchoronized although I had already enaled the Network Time Protocol and let all the related servers to be synchoronized with the same NTP server.
I want to know why the time cannot be synchoronized on different servers?

Time synchronization with RAC is critical. Oracle will refuse to install if you do not perform this step.
You have three choices. The more risky one is to configure access to an external time server. I don't like this because it does create a path between my data server and the internet. The second is to build a time server in our data center that you reference. This is the best option as you can, and should, use that server for synchronize everything which is a great help with replication. The third choice is to arbitrarily choose one node and synchronize the other nodes with it. The downside is that if you lose that node you are at risk.
There are plenty of instructions on how to create a time server on the internet but no matter which choice you make ... you will need root privs on operating system to configure it.
