Reboot and Delete that file. All .EXE files are for Windows. So I don't think it can ldo any harm to your Mac.

  • Exe file: Trying to open

    I have (had) an exe file on desktop that i tried to open with Vista / Fusion / Bootcamp with no success. Then tried another approach following these instructions:
    Directions for Use
    * If the .exe file did not download to your desktop, move it there.
    * Go to the Utilities folder on your Mac.
    * Open Terminal. Verify that you're at the root of your computer.
    * Type cd Desktop and press Return.
    * Type unzip filename.exe, where "filename" is the name of the downloaded file. Press Return.
    * Once Terminal is done inflating the file(s) to the desktop, quit Terminal.
    * Open the new file with the appropriate application.
    Didn't work: terminal told me it couldn't find it or something similar. I closed terminal and now there is an image of the document on desk top but no name or discription.
    Any suggestion on what to do?
    And was this the correct way to open exe?
    thanks for any help!!!

    A *.exe file can only be opened under Microsoft Windows. If you have tried opening the file using Windows (whether on a boot camp partition and/or Fusion) and it did not open then something is wrong with file. Contact the sender/author of the file and see what the issue is. The file is probably corrupt. Get another copy of the file which is clean.

    I'm not sure what this question has to do with Apple's Software Update for Windows...a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, but if .exe files can only be opened in Windows. So if you're having issues with a file I suggest you contact the author of the file or post your question on an Windows discussion forum, as what you're seeing has really nothing to do with Macs.

  • Cannot delete exe files - The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer

    We have received 3 new computers with Windows 8.1. All of us 3 have the same problem: we cannot delete exe files with message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer"
    For example, I download skypeinstall.exe on desktop, install the program correctly and then try to delete the file: file is in use by Windows Explorer, cannot be delete.
    We reboot computer, we are able to delete the file. But, if I restore the file from the recycle bin on the desktop, I cannot delete it again until I reboot the PC. I used ProcessExplorer to see what is locking it and I can see 5 instances of explorer.exe
    locking the file.
    I can always reproduce the same way:
    1-Reboot
    2-Delete exe file
    3-Restore file
    4-Delete stop working and 5 explorer.exe handle are locking it.
    I have tried the following so far after reading multiple threads:
    - De-activating Windows Search service
    - Activating User Experience service
    - Deleting from command prompt (no success)
    - In folder options: inactivate display icon on thumbnail and activate always display icons, never thumbnail
    - Changing folder view (contents, detail, small icons...)
    - Using Lock Hunter - not working until reboot
    None of these worked.
    We all have Windows 8.1 with Crucial SSD drive, could the problem be linked with the SSD drive incompatibility?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Please try to make a clean boot for your system, then check if this problem resolved.

  • The exe files are not responding on my computer. I can't get to firefox.exe - what can I do?

    I downloaded a 7-zip file from CNET and it didn't do what I wanted and so I uninstalled it. However, all the "exe" files on the computer are now not accessible. I can get to Firefox thru a "shortcut" on my desktop for the local newspaper. The e-mail is working thru my yahoo account only. I purchased PC MightyMax and that didn't do anything for me. I've tried to restore the computer to yesterday or earlier and the restore window will not come up either.

    In some cases, all EXEs being broken can indicate a malware infection.
    Do you get a specific error message when you try to start a program?
    I'm concerned that PC MightyMax itself might be an infection you need to remove, but let's come back to that issue.

    A .exe file is a Windows executable. OS X does not run Windows programs. If you need to use .exe files then you will need to install Windows on your Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Unable to run an exe file from a Servlet

    I am not able to run a Servlet that calls an exe file using the following code. trial.exe is was built from a C program and it is simply a program that creates a text file with some content. I am using Tomcat 6.0 and JDK 1.5 on a Windows XP.
    {color:#000080}try
    Runtime rt=Runtime.getRuntime();
    String[] command = {"C://Tomcat 6.0//webapps//ROOT//WEB-INF//classes//trial.exe"};
    {color}
    {color:#000080}
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
    p.waitFor();
    catch(Throwable t)
    // System.out.print(t.getMessage());
    }{color}
    Before running the code on Tomcat I've compiled the code above in a simple java programe and it executed without any problem.
    Then I compiled the code within a servlet. No luck. Then I treid the following options:
    Executed the Tomcat service under the context of a user by specifying a user(Log On option) for the Tomcat service.
    Then with Local System Account, selecting “Allow service to interact with desktop”.
    this time also, no luck. Can somebody help me on this please ?
    BJJ

    For clarity I am rewriting the last sentences here:
    Then I compiled the above code within a servlet successfully and invoked the servlet from a browser with and without the following settings of Tomcat 6.0.
    1. Executed the Tomcat service under the context of a user by specifying a user (Log On option) for the Tomcat service.
    2. Then with Local System Account, selecting Allow service to interact with desktop.
    I was not succeeded with any of the methods mentioned above.

  • Turn a script into an .exe file?

    Hi,
    How can I turn a JavaScript into an .exe file (on Windows)? The
    advantage is that if the script uses only ScriptUI features, it will
    never need to launch InDesign. Additionally, it is possible to package
    it that way with a special icon that appears if it is placed on the
    desktop, and when it runs the icon appears in the taskbar.
    An example of what I'd look to achieve is the hyphenchecker script,
    written by the late Teus de Jong. There is one Windows-only version
    available on his website (which is still being maintained, probably by
    his son) which is an .exe file -- precisely what I'm trying to do.
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    straight form javascript i don't think there is a way.
    however you can use, i think, Visual Basic (not vbScript!!) as a wrapper for js (using doScript)?

  • Virus in diagnostic tools file on desktop

    I have recently noticed that my pc guard came up and said I had a virus, I ran a full scan and it said i had a couple of viruses, two were in files and i deleted them, they were linked to my norton files as my norton was out of date, since i have installed norton antivirus and it doesn't pick up my problem.
    On my desktop in my toshiba files in my diagnostic tool one of the files has the virus as my pc guard tells me as I open the page, it is in my programe files\toshiba\pc diag cd rom test.exe file not sure whether i can delete that will it do any damage?
    If I do can i return the file in some way?
    I think i have deleted the file just above it also as it had the same problem, and can't test that now as it has no files, help needed please, what would u do?

    Hi Stephen,
    Most anti-virus software will let you 'quarantine' infected files so that you can safely remove them and then restore them from the 'quarantine' if the system experiences problems as a result of your actions.
    I suggest you either use the 'quarantine' feature or else make a safe copy of the file(s) that you want to delete so that you can restore them if you find that you have problems once they have been deleted.

  • How can i open a ".exe" files?

    I can't open files in ".exe" Could someone help me?

    hey
    Mac OS does not support ".exe" - file. It is actually a Windows file.
    But mostly, there are more versions for another Operating Systems like Mac OS or Linux.
    However, if there is no Mac version of the application of your desire available, there are some options.
    You can use Boot Camp to create another Operating System on your Apple Computer.
    Or you can get applications like Parallel's Desktop, which simulates another Operating Systems like Windows while your Mac is still running.
    Can you tell me the name of the ".exe" application?

  • CS6: AIR(runtime embedded) creates a lot of files instead of one exe file

    I want to package all necessary sources for my application in one exe file (windows 7 system).
    In Flash Professional CS6 I choosed: File->Public Settings
    Target: AIR 3.4 for Desktop
    AIR Settings: Output as: Application with runtime embedded
    Window style: Syste Chrome
    Render mode: Auto
    Profiles Desktop / Extended Desktop
    Then I pressed publish. I got the message "Application with runtime embedded has been created".
    What I want: One exe file without dependence to other files/directories
    What I got is a directory structure like this:
    Untitled-1.app
      Adobe AIR
      META-INF
      mimetype
      Untitled-1.exe
      Untitled-1.swf
    In that directory my Untitled-1.exe starts without problems.
    But if I copy the exe (and ONLY the exe) to another directory
    and try to start it I get the message that AIR wasn't found.
    So my assumption was right that not all necassary files were packaged.
    How can I package all necassary files/directories in one exe?

    Hi,
    This is a windows -OS limitation. The embedded application .app package created on Win will appear as Folder directory.
    Untitled-1.app
      Adobe AIR
      META-INF
      mimetype
      Untitled-1.exe
      Untitled-1.swf
    If you look, Adobe AIR contains the AIR runtime needed to run the .exe application. Hence, you would need to copy the entire content of the Untitled.app folder on Win.

  • EXE file with STMP mail

    Hi guys,
    I ran into a problem that I don't understand and I would really appreciate someone's expertises getting in.
    I've developed a VI (let's call it a 'Main.VI') that has more than 100 subVIs. Among the subVIs, there are numerous 'STMP Email Send Message.VI's.  What this whole program does is that it first reads raw data from a data logger, goes through a data processing/reduction program, saves reduced data into a folder, and then sends only reduced data files to the users on timely basis (e.g. every hour, once a day, once a week...) - this is where 'STMP email send message.VI' comes in play.
    I plan on running this 'Main.VI' as a service (in background). So I made an exe file out of this 'Main.VI'.  Now, here comes an odd part. Before I made a exe file, everything works fine (it saves data and send reduced files to users). However, when I make and run the exe file, the email thing does NOT work. The strange thing is that everything else works fine but I can not get the email stuff to work.
    Does anyone have any idea why it's happening? Any suggestions?
    Does Labview limit the usage of STMP email.VI when a normal VI is turned into an exe file?

    Thanks for your help. To anwer your question first, No I'm not using 'current vi's path'. The location of my 'Main.VI' and the file folders are different (e.g, 'C:\....\desktop\Main.VI.' and 'C:\temp\data file folder'). I will once again try to explain how the program works.
    1. 'Main.VI' collects/reduces/processes raw data and save the reduced data hourly into 'data file folder'.
    2. When it reaches a certain time limit (e.g. 1day, 1week, 1 month,..etc), it will send a notification to a subVI and this subVI will do some processing/saving and send a reduced file to users via email.
    Again, before I make an exe file, everything works the way I programmed. After building an exe, however, everything else works fine except the email.
    I included a screen shot of a portion of block diagram for this subVI.
