PDC in Logic surround mode...a nightmare ??????

I am mixing a Cd in surround in Logic....
I have a UAD card that I want to run on the busses (reverb and compression)....
I am having a nightmare when PDC is switched on...
Just before a piece of audio plays ,there is a short burst of that audio...then it plays properly...
Especially if its a loud piece ,like Bass or vocal....if i knock off the PDC it plays properly...
switch it back on and there it is a slight burst of audio ,a second before it plays...
Also it only plays every second time when i press the stop button and start again????
If I put the mix into normal mode ,using separate outs .its OK...WEIRD???
Anybody else using PDC/UAD in surround mode????
ROB

I find I get more joy from the external instrument plugs and using MIDI devices that way.
I just wish you could have program changes in the track parameters with those plugs, but they don't have them.
For this reason, I always have to use two different kinds of tracks in the arrangement, the MIDI object/device AND an external instrument plug. Kind of a mess with a lot of devices.

  • BCF2000 - assigning within Logic Control Mode

I am using a Behringer BCF2000 with Logic 7 Pro on a G4 powerbook. My BCF2000 is working fine in Logic Control Mode (USB Mode U-3), what I would like to do is add a few of my own parameters, mainly logic's tape delay feedback (as I make dub) to one of the dials, for example.
Also I would love to be able to trigger a few sound effects (maybe an exs patch) using an assigned button, for those on-the-fly dub vibes.
I sussed the patch editing and storing in the normal factory mode, but in Logic control mode, I can't seem to create my own patches and store them. Is this possible? and if so, how can I "learn" the functions like tape delay feedback.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!

I have not been able to program mine in LC emulation
though I have been able to program the other presets.
Something I have not tried yet is trying to program the
many parameters in the controller assignments window.
I have discovered that by having the BCF in LCmode
going to the Controller Assignments window and
selecting expert and follow then clicking on
the different modes and such that the BCF
responds to what you are choosing on the screen.
I have not had the time yet to confirm this but
I believe the BCF is already preprogrammed to
do many of these in LC emulation. For example when I choose
track on screen the BCF would change its display
to "tr" and so on. This is a big discovery for me since
I new that in LCemulation the Unit was capable of
accessing all or most of what a Mackie Logic Control
unit could. I could never figure out how to get to those
parameters. This is one way to figure it out I suppose.
Behringer suggests that you read the docs for the Mackie,
I have not found this to be too helpful yet. Hope this helps.

Odd ly if I assign another controller with the same CC number , Mod. info can be recorded ( but not from the Mod wheel )

Not sure exactly how this happened but there was one command called Jog Wheel. I removed that and the Mod Wheel started working. Thanks ErikSimon as this was found in the Controller Assignment window.

  • New user: Logic & surround using existing amp??

    Hi
Please excuse my ignorance, but I have done some searching and couldn't find an answer.
I am a new user to Logic, and keen to create surround mixes (5.1). Using a macbook, how can I achieve this in the best and cheapest manner?
I have a hope Sony 5.1 surround system with USB (+optical etc). Can I use this?
I can't see the surround windows in Logic. Is this because it hasn't detected a surround output? I was hoping I could mix and play, record as AC3 and play this via DVD on the system?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Which audio connector would you recommend for a shoe-string budget?
    Hi Paul,
You are not looking for an "audio connector" but an audio INTERFACE.
I recommend you go over to Motu.com to see some of their product, to get an idea.

  • "The application Logic Pro quit unexpectedly" nightmare

    Hi All
My rig's been performing seamlessly for ages...... then I go and buy an iPhone, upgrade to the latest version of iTunes and... oh no!... the above message when loading core audio.
I've tried launching while holding down ctrl to disable ca driver, then scanning AUs etc, even pulling suspect plugs out of the library/audio/components folder, trashing prefs..... I'm at my wits end.
Somebody please help... I've got an important mix to do and facing re-installing everything gives me the shakes!
My rig:- Logic Pro 7.2.3 on G5 dual 2G with 3.5gB RAM, Tascam FW1884+3x FE-8

    Hi,
I do think it is the Core Audio.
I do think you should go back to Mac OSX 10.4.8, since that's the last real known working OS version.
It's kinda sad, but that should get it to work. Don't forget to:
    1. BACKUP. Backup EVERYTHING. And I do mean everything....
    2. Do a CLEAN INSTALL. Macs like this, they become friendly after one of these. It's like a lobotomy, but better.
    3. Go and Install ONE BY ONE, your applications, starting with :
    1. Any audio device you will be using with Logic.
    2. Logic itself.
    3. Open and TEST Logic BEFORE installing ANY plug-ins.
    4. Plug-Ins. And do them one by one, and test them FIRST. Don't go and install 50 plug-ins, only fo wonder later which one is crashing the system.
    5. Enjoy your now-functioning computer.
    6. TURN OFF AUTO-UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or face the consequences...like you are doing right now.
    7. Wait a while to make SURE this now works as it did before.
    8. Then, and only then, consider upgrading iTunes so you can sync your iPhone. Unless the iPhone is more important than runnign Logic, which of course cannot possibly be the case, as Logic RULES!!!!!
Well, that just about does it for me, I hope you have a great ThanksGiving day weekend.
    Cheers

  • Logic ' Live' Mode

    Hi....
Anyone know if the 'Live' mode uses CPU or RAM or both. Would adding more RAM and running in 64 bit mode mean live mode runs more effectively?
    Thanks

If you don't want an instrument to be in live mode, then select an audio track, or uncheck the track record button. But then you can't play the instrument.
If you mean you want better performance (ie you've got too much latency) while you are playing the instrument then 2 things to look at. If it's just the first note that is slow, that's because it's in 'live mode standby' or whatever it's called. The "R" is red, but the button is grey. You need to send a silent MIDI signal to kick it into full live mode, just a quick flick of a knob or mod/pitch wheel.
IF you have too much latency, period, try decreasing the buffer size in the preferences menu.

  • Creative Evo Wireless - No Virtual 7.1 Surround mode

I recently purchased the Creative EVO wireless headset and i just noticed that when its connected to the pc via usb, the only option in playback devices for the headset is stereo. Is it only the higher end ZX and ZXR models that have the virtual 7.1 option? Btw i have the Evo software installed on my pc.

Corsair Vengeance 2000/1500 headsets had the same setup, stereo only in playback devices and upmixed by software to 7.1, and they received flak for this setup. They were able to fix this in a driver/firmware update making them 7.1 surround device in playback devices.
Thank you very much for your feedback icynrvna.
I have escalated to the designated team and the product comparison KB article has now been updated to reflect this information
However, I am truly sorry for your inconvenience regarding this.. hopefully there will be enhancements in the future regarding this particular feature. I will make sure to update on this thread if these enhancements are added.

  • Logic 8 REX File NIGHTMARE !!!

since i updated to logic 8 a large number of .rx2 files i had no longer work when i try to either import them into audio tracks or open them in the EXS24.
i get the following message when trying to import to an audio track:
"The file "xxxxxx.rx2" is not recognized by Logic. Please ensure that the file properties are correct and that it is a supported file type"
i get the follow message when trying to open a rex file with EXS24:
"The File "§$" is not an EXS Instrument File
The files are fine and open in both Recycle and Kontakt withouth any problems...but not in Logic. The weird thing is that the Rex file which wouldn't open in an audio track opened fine with the EXS24 !
Iv tried downloading the latest REX Shared Library thing from the Propellerheads website but it still doesnt work !
Has anyone else had this problem and have they worked out how to fix it ?

I'm producing and mixing an album with logic pro 8 in surround mode 5.1

I've tried to import the surround files into Waveburner but it's impossible, only 2 channels files are accepted.
    How can I do ?
Is someone can help me ?

Hi. I believe DVD-A is still not a free protocol, and DVD-A players are rare. and though Logic can make DVD-A, there is no program for the Mac that can actually play them. I'll try a little search, there has been a comprehensive thread on exactly this topic - though more than a year ago, if I remember correctly...

  • X-Fi with D PLII Movie Mode Speak

    Hi,
I have an X-Fi soundcard (Fatalty one) and Logitech Z5500 speakers. They have several modes. When watching movies with a DTS soundtrack or a 5. soundtrack is it best to use the D PLII Movie mode or the 6 channel mode. I also have a mode for music D PLII Music mode. I don't really understand what the modes do and when they should be used or how I should get the X-Fi to decode DTS soundtracks. Help on this would be useful!
    Thanks,
    Matt

The Pro Logic II mode on your speakers is for two things:
) When you're connected in 6 channel mode and are playing back a stereo clip (which is probably Dolby Surround or PL II encoded) and need the speakers to upmix it to 5. channel audio.
    2) When you've connected digitally (either via coax or optical SPDIF) and need to set it so that when a Dolby 2.0 or DTS 2.0 signal comes through it gets upmixed to 5. using positional cues in the audio.
Generally since you've got it in 6 channel direct mode, you shouldn't need to use PLII unless the video/audio software you're using doesn't have its own PL II decoder.
In 6 channel mode, the PL II option will cause the front two channels to be upmixed via PLII decoding into 5., ignoring the the other channels (surround, centre and sub).

  • MacPro 8core 3gig 32 g RAM Logic 8 are Dolby 5.1 large mixes possible?

The huge let down for professionals working with Apple Mac gear is that there is NO apparent technical access, making it possible to get an answer to what may seem like the really obvious question below.
Many of us our often quoted as making the requst: "PLEASE GIVE US A PROFESSIONAL ACCESS TO TECHNICAL ENQUIRIES - & YOU CAN NAME THE PRICE FOR THE SERVICE"
I'm a movie composer working from my own 5.1 studio set up but regularly do big choir and orchestra recordings in larger studios which I then bring back to my studio to mix.
I'd love to know if there's anyone out there actually using JUST the new Mac Pro 3.2gig (fully loaded 16gig / 32 gig RAM??) with Logic 8 on LARGE workloads ....... ie. loads of DOLBY 5.1 stuff with heaps of audio and EXS samlper/plug-ins etc
I've been a Logic TDM user for years and although used the Protools hardware (PT 24 Mix Plus & TDM plugins etc), being a LOGIC MAN, I've always done all my audio work in Logic and am thinking of making the change from a Protools Hardware scenario to doing everything with CPU and Logic 8 on the Big Mac.
I often use a track count of say 64 tracks and have expansion rack containing Samplecell TDM Cards ...... but I'm beginning to feel like a Ludditewith the potential now available in the new sample libraies!
I've bought a new Mac Book with 2 gig of RAM to play with the newer Logic 8 which is FAB but will still won't quite crank up the revs necessary ...... ALMOST! One "presumes" the new big Mac Pro will.
The Digidesign - Apple arrangement has had serious consequences for the end user in recent years and I'd love to think it might finally be possible to work with just the MAC CPU.
I understand that there is a current limitation to the OSX architecture (although this should change soon) in so much as any one application can only run a max of 4 gig of RAM but that ESX24 is capable of using all the available spare RAM that you can give it.
Peter Gabriel's guys at Real World use Logic but only in conjunction with Protools ...... Thomas Newman doesn't .... everyone I call says the same thing .... no one seems to know anyone ANYWHERE actually doing "IT"
The Yellow Technology guys at Anvil Studio's in London will "soon" install this combination in all the studios there but I'd still love to hear from anyone who can hold their hand up and say "YES, I'M USING LOGIC 8 & MAC PRO 8 CORE with MEGA RAM TO PRODUCE BIG DOLBY 5.1 TYPE MIXES WITH BUCKETS OF AUDIO TRACKS AND PLUGINS AND IT REALLY CAN DO IT!!!"
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Richard

    Hey Dick,
I have been producing, remixing and mastering (encoding) 5.1 / 7.1 mixes for the best part of 10 years now. (I used to work for both Dolby and DTS) Whilst Logic 7 was "ok" for 5.1 mixes (the lack of any surround busses was a pain, but not a deal breaker for me.
Logic 8 (and im on vanilla 8.0.0) brought about the luxury of surround busses and of course fx (space designer and delay now in full fat surround!) - the fact is I have produced many AAA games and music projects using logic as the "mixer" - the automation of surround is a bit quirky and you have to edit (if you need to top / tail in soundtrack pro as logic doesnt support 5.1 files but stp does).
These projects range from full fat orchestral pieces with lots of plugs (ewqlso, vienna etc. and of course real instruments recorded off site) to standard pop / dance mixes with lots of au's and fx. The bottom line is that logic handles them just fine on my dual 2.7 g5 with 5 gig ram!
If i get any overloads which is rare these days, i just freeze the tracks that are consuming big cpu and play with the buffer size in mix mode.
Sure logics surround stuff could be better, but it works - i use my dm2000 console less and less these days as many of my projects are now 7.1 for ps3 (BD) and the dm2k doesnt support 7.1, but logic does.....
I hope this is of some help?

  • K9a2 CF - surround sound

On my previous board, ASUS A7n8x-x NFORCE2, there was a setting in the registry that allowed upmixing 2channel audio to 5.1 surround speakers.
On this new board which has REALTEK HD ACL888 I can find no such settings and thus all the games which do not support 5.1 surround(90% of them) are only  working on the front 2 speakers.
MY speakers are connected thru the analog jacks and I am using WinXP SP2

Okay, so I've tried a few things now and it seems there are ways to get sound to all speakers, but everything is still not working properly.
Music plays just fine and 6 channel direct works too. The problem now is when watching movies. Background sound etc. seems to be playing properly, but the voices are barely audible when playing in "Pro Logic II Movie"-mode, some kind of surround mode I suppose (by the way, would I get a lot better sound, maybe fix the problem completely, if I got a sound card and connected via optical/coax?).
The windows sound test doesn't work when playing in movie or music mode, but I guess that's just a minor issue.

  • Ensemble + surround sound

when connecting the apogee ensemble via firewire to my mac i thought it would automatically direct its output-signals to the right speakers after plugging in my 5,1 system
any thoughts on this? within a short month i've really enjoyed editing with surround sound with LP but when i purchased ensemble what i thought would be very useful i go this, it simply connects its output signals to my speakers, not taking any notice which are the front and which are the side speakers
editing in surround sound means i have to manually direct these channels to the right speakers but it also means at the end of my editing i have to redirect every channel because otherwise it comes out like mono sound because a home cinema set won't know which channel to choose, does anyone know how you can let meastro software direct the channels automically to the rigth speakers so i can edit properly?

come on, guys, nobody has an ensemble?
Your setup isn't unique to the Ensemble. except that you only have analog outs for surround. Plug the analog outs (say 1-6) of the Ensemble into the analog 5.1 inputs of your 5.1 monitor system.
In Logic, open Preferences-Audio-Surround and you'll see an Output Assignment configurator that tells Logic where to send Center, LFE, etc. In Logics mixer, set your pan controls to surround mode. You're done.
