PDF and PowerPoint 2007, strange slides and handouts

I'm getting strange output when I create a presentation in PowerPoint and print to Acrobat. The problems happen whether I print Slides or Handouts.
-- On some slides, the slide title is partially or completely missing.
-- In grayscale mode, some graphics show up in color.
-- Solid-color shapes (boxes) show up cross-hatched.
-- For handouts only, some slides have headers and footers, and others do not.
I'm using PowerPoint 2007, up to date, and Acrobat Professional 9.1.3.
I've used PowerPoint and Acrobat for many years and only recently began to have these problems. I've tried changing some of the endless printing options in Acrobat, but nothing I've found so far has made a difference.
Those problems (with the possible exception of the color graphics in grayscale mode, I don't remember) do not happen when I print to Microsoft's XPS format.
Any ideas?
Thank you!

Thank you! That's helping a lot. I don't see how to get grayscale in that route, but at least I'm getting proper color handouts, no errors. Plus it outputs much faster. Hmmm. I haven't tried saving in PPT format instead of PPTX. And then there's an Excel spreadsheet that takes several minutes to output 14 pages via print to Adobe PDF printer (it used to be much faster, I don't know why it suddenly slowed down, I didn't change the spreadsheet), I wonder if that would be faster if I saved in PDF format rather than printing to the Adobe PDF printer.
Again, thank you. You have helped, plus you gave me leads to follow.

Mark

    Hi Xeno1,
Acrobat XI converts PDF into PPTX format and PowerPoint 2007 understands PPTX very well.

  • How can I exchange my pc created documents on Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with my mac and my Pages, Numbers and Keynote created content with my pc?  I need to create and edit between both.

How can I exchange my pc created documents on Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with my mac and my Pages, Numbers and Keynote created content with my pc?  I need to create and edit and exchange between both types of operating systems.

Your Windows system will not open any Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents. No applications exist for Windows that can open those formats. You will need to export your documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats, respectively, before you'll be able to view and edit the documents on your Windows system. The iWork documents can natively open Word, Excel and PP documents, though there are limitations on what can be imported (for instance, Numbers does not support all possible Excel functions). Consult the documentation for the relevant iWork application for details on importing and exporting.
If you are asking how to get the documents from one system to the other, then there are several ways to do that, including file sharing, using an external drive (hard drive, USB flash drive), or emailing the documents to yourself. Which would be best for your situation I can't say without more details about your usage.

  • Presenter and PowerPoint 2007

My animations pieces do not seem to work unless I ungroup
them with PowerPoint 2007. However if I use the same files and use
create the Presenter file with PowerPoint 2003 the grouped files
work. Does this mean that I must ungroup all my files if I want to
create Presenter files? This is a big bummer since some of my
complex illustrations need to be grouped. Is anyone else having
problems with PowerPoint 2007 and Presenter? Before my whole team
    upgrades I would like feedback.

    Hi There,
Yes you need to uninstall Adobe Presenter first before upgrading your Office as Presenter is an addin to the PowerPoint. As such there is no issues using Presenter 10 in Office 2010.

  • Cannot embed 3D PDF into powerpoint 2007

    Hello:
I can't embed 3D model from .pdf file into powerpoint 2007.
Followed all instructions, the 3D model is captured from VMD program using acrobat 3d 8.0,
it is saved automatically as .pdf file,
it is able to open and rotate in the acrobat reader,
then in powerpoint 2007, when i want to embed it,
i click the embed 3D button, the add 3d data window appear,
but in the file selection, the .pdf file is not supported.
only those .u3d, .cad, ... are supported, and i tried these, they can be embeded.
but i am confused, how can i really embed the .pdf file to powerpoint?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for both of your help.
I am still not quite understand how the OCX means.
Does it mean the "embed 3D" button appeared in powerpoint or some other kind of software?
Currently what I did is export the 3d model in the .pdf to a .u3d file.
then I can choose the .u3d file and embed it since this format is supported. And I can rotate it in powerpoint. But the only problem is it's now in perspective view and I cannot change it to orthographic view inside the powerpoint.
Even in the .pdf I set the default view to orthographic, the exported and embeded is still perspective.
So is there any way to export it as orthographic model?

  • Acrobat 9 pro extended and Powerpoint 2007

It seems that PPT 2007 and Acrobat 9 has issues with maintaining PPT's

I have "Preserve Slide Transitions" checked in adobe preferences, but the

Is there a setting I am missing, or is this just a bug between PPT &

I will cross-post this in MS powerpoint newsgroup.

If I start another trial on another computer in my lan then I can't ? Because Acrobat Extended and Distiller work great but Reviewer 3d never start at all.

  • Graphic graining after converting to pdf from Powerpoint 2007

I have a user, using Windows XP, Office 2007, Acrobat 8.1 Standard & Distiller 8. When she is in Powerpoint working on a slide her graphic looks fine. Once she hits Acrobat on her toolbar, then Create a PDF, it converts over to a pdf and her graphic looks grainy. Like some of the color is gone-not completely filled in like it was before in the lettering. Can someone please help with this, I've been researching for a while now and can't find a solution.

Sorry, all out of ideas. She may just have to live with it. The only think I can think of is a compatibility between the resolutions selected in the WORD doc and the storage to PDF. Generally PDFs do not change the resolution of a graphic unless you ask for the compression (that is part of the graphics management in the settings file with Std have a lot of compression). It may be that properly adjusting the resolution of the graphic in the PPT doc would change the issue. A lot of folks have a habit of just copying a graphic into PPT without changing the resolution to an appropriate dpi. You might try saving any graphics to a different format and insert in PPT again. Also, be aware that OFFICE 2007 does some conversions to imported images that may also be an issue (at least with DOCX and related files, not the DOC versions). I am not sure that might be an affect. You might going to a PPT 2003 compatible format and try the graphics again - I have gotten some differences (I have no clue why).
The only other thing that you might do would be to post the copies somewhere, both of a sample PPT or PPTX and a sample PDF. You may have to post a new topic since this one is so far back in the queue. I was just drifting back over old posts and noted your item. Bill

  • IPAD and Powerpoint (PPT) create, edit, and email

I am an independent consultantant and would like to give up my computer for travel.  I create, edit, and email Powerpoint presentations often.  How does this work on the ipad now?  Is this feasible/seamless now?  I love iphone but concerned about PPT use.

As far as I know there is no powerpoint app but you could check out keynote. Then just use the adapter to mirror the device.

  • Icloud 2.1 and excel 2007

There is a meanwhile well known issue using windows 7 and excel 2007 or 2010 and have iCloud version 2.0 or 2.1 installed:

Until it is not corrected one have to use iCloud version 1.1 instead to solve the problem.

  • Problem with printing from Powerpoint 2007

Am printing to pdf from Powerpoint 2007 (using Acrobat 8.1.4), using the Print>Select Printer>Adobe PDF route, but the pdfs that are being created look terrible (distorted, washed out colours, etc) and print even worse. Is there an incompatibility problem, or has a setting gone awry? Thanks in advance.

It may vary. I have seen some strange results from OFFICE 2007, where there apparently are some hooks built into the MS software. You might try with OFFICE 2003 or OpenOffice. I have used OFFICE 2003 for some things and gotten excellent results, where OFFICE 2007 created issues. I know that it is OFFICE 2007 since I also played with different versions of Acrobat for Office 2007 and got the same strange results, where things were fine with OFFICE 2003. There may be an issue with the
I just created a new PDF from PPT 2007 and the results were looking fine. For folks to be able to comment more effectively, they need to be able to duplicate what you did and I am not sure that can be done with the information you have provided. Specifically, what job settings file did you use in the Adobe PDF printer, etc.

  • Acrobat 7 Std compatible with PowerPoint 2007

I have Acrobat 7 Standard Edition; have used it for years with Office 2003.  Recently I updated my PowerPoint 2003 to 2007, and now when I go to convert my 07 PowerPoint to a PDF I get the following message "Missing PDF Maker files" "Do you want to run the installer in repair mode?"  I run it in repair mode and it just does the same thing over again.  However when I convert any of the other Office 2003 doc to a PDF it's fine, so I am thinking it's a compatibility issue with version Acrobat 7 and PowerPoint 2007, can anyone confirm?

You will have to print to the Aodbe PDF printer. That is your only option, unless you either want to backup to an earlier version of OFFICE or upgrade Acrobat. The first version to work with OFFICE 2007 was AA8.1.2 (maybe 1). Bill

  • Why can I not see PowerPoint 2007 comments in KeyNote 09?

I created a KeyNote presentation for my class in KeyNote and saved it to a PowerPoint 2003 format (teacher request). I sent it off to the teacher, who used PowerPoint 2007 to add comments using the comments feature on the review tab, who then sent it back to me.
I opened the presentation in KeyNote and there are no notes shown. I made sure the SHOW COMMENTS option was selected in the file menu but they are nowhere to be seen.
I will note that there were no errors in the compatibility box when I opened it in KeyNote. I do have a copy of PowerPoint 2007 in BootCamp and the comments do show. But I'd rather, for obvious reason, use KeyNote.

  • Exporting to Powerpoint 2007 using the 2007 formats

I'm currently running Xcelsius 2208 and Office 2007.  Because I was the first to get Office 2007 I've had to continue saving in the Office 97-2003 format (.ppt).  Now that everyone has caugth up if I save in the .pptx or .pptm format the .swf appears to disappear after the file is saved and reopened.  Does the .swf only run in the .ppt mode?

    Hi Maureen,
You have to keep saving as PPT because PowerPoint does not support embedded Adobe Flash files in a PPTX (Office 2007).
Refer to the Export to Microsoft Word 2007 and PowerPoint 2007 in the General Issues section of the Xcelsius 2008 release notes.
