PDF and RTF output differences

Hi All
I'm having some issues when previewing labels in PDF and RTF output. I have created a RTF template that outputs labels - 5 address lines per label, 2 X 10 labels per page. Each label is contained in a table and each address line is contained in a table row.
- When I preview the RTF output long address lines are not being truncated even though I uncheck the wrap option on the table cell properties.
- When I preview the RTF output I can get 2x10 labels on the page (if no wrapping occurs) but when I preview in PDF I can only get 2x9 labels on the page. I have checked the font size of both the PDF and RTF outputs and they are the same size. It looks like the header and footer is taking up more space on the PDF version compared to the RTF version when I visually inspect the output but I cannot be sure.
Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve these issues?
regards
Brad

Always its better to use different templates for individual output types as the template designed with perfection for pdf output type dosen't comply with rtf or any other type and vice versa.

  • Differences in .pdf and .rtf

I'm trying to create a report that the output needs to be in a .pdf or in a .rtf, the user decides. I'm having with the .rtf because the output looks perfect in a .pdf but doesn't look the same in the .rtf output.
Is this normally the way BI Pub works when using 1 template for both .pdf and .rtf output?
    Thanks!!

  • BIP report output in PDF and RTF generating some blank columns or symbols

    Hi Experts,
I am new to BIP. I have developed some BIP reports in 10.1.3.4.1 version which are working fine in Dev and UAT environment.
But it's generating some blank columns and some columns with proper data and some columns with"cellphone" kind of symbol in PDF and " "
symbols in RTF in Prod environment.
In all the environments the version of BIP is same.
So any help in resolving this issue is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance..

All of the complex report logic is handled in your Oracle Report (rdf) file.
If your Oracle report is working OK, then this report should be generating XML.
After running your report, go to the View Requests window. Highlight your request, and click the Diagnostics button. Then click the 'View XML' button. If you see XML data, then you should be OK.
When I faced a similar issue, it was because the '1 step' process didnt work for the particular report I was using. The '1 step' process doesn't work for every report. Which report are you using?
If the report is submitted via a form (not the concurrent manager request form), then you probably need to use 2 steps to produce the desired output.

  • Company Logo does not appear in Excel and HTML, but appears in PDF and RTF

    Hi,
I have a RTF template with my Company Logo Embedded. When I run the report from Standard Request Submission, and I give the output type as Excel or HTML, I dont see the Logo on my report.
When I give the output type as PDF or RTF, then I see the logo on my report.
Is there anything special I need to do, to see the Logo in Excel or HTML ? Am i missing anything.
I am using Oracle BI Publisher Template Builder for Word 10.1.3.2.0
I would really appreciate if you can pass your feedback.
    Thanks

  • PDF and Excel output cell spacing issues

    Hi all..
I have a report and template whose output should be both in PDF and Excel.
Lets say I have two tables in out put one below other. (Table1 and table 2 below it..)
Table 1 has 5 columns and table 2 has 30 columns.
In PDF since it is difficult and ugly to show 30 columns, I made font as 6( very small font)
PDF output looks fine. But, when I open the reort in excel..its all messed up and ugly.
Table 1 column widths are very much uneven. lI noticed that table1, table 2 coulmns width are same...
For my Requirement, they must have seperate widths.. Also..when I open the report in Excel, I still get in font size 6 which is ugly
I want table1 column width and table 2 column width in Excel as seperate..
    How do I achieve this.

    Vetsrini wrote:
    you can do that too..
two set of tables, one for each output. and use the Microsoft word font properties.
    else
    add something like this
    <fo:block font-size="14pt" font-family="verdana" color="red">
    Your test or your field
    </fo:block>Srini, this worked!
My font differences in Pdf and Excel has been eliminated now.
But however I have one more problem as I stated in my first post.
When I exported into Excel, My column width of first table is dependant on the other making my report look uneven.
I am providing the screen shots.
Look how Rate column of first table is very huge as it took the colmun width of table2 (Decription column)

  • Suppression of header leads to difference in behaviour in PDF and RTF documents

    Post Author: mani

I have a report with a header which i suppress based on some conditions.
When the header is suppressed , the rtf documents generated have the rest of the contents moving up to occupy the empty space created due to suppression of header.
But if we generate pdf documents the header space is retained (as empty) and the rest of the content remain in their same positions irrespective of header is suppressed or not.
I want the behaviour to be uniform in both kinds of documents , has any one faced this or have a solution in mind?
Thank you for looking into this issue.

Instead of supressing the header, you could just change the font to match the background, base this formula on the same conditions that used to supress the header. This should leave the header the same size, but you will not "see" the text.

  • Bug in PDF and print output with gradients?

I've got a document that makes use of a gradient fill in a table, and I find that (at least for the < 2pt border widths) the border has a thin white line to either side. It shows up readily in both the print and PDF outputs. Is this a known issue? Where can I file a bug for it? I'm using iWork 6.0 with the latest patches applied. This all worked and looked fine under iWork 5.0. :-(

What are you using to view/print the pdf's?
Make sure you have the latest Adobe Reader, found
    here:
Adobe - Adobe Reader - Download
I'm using Preview. I did check it using Acrobat reader on Windows, and the problem still exists. I suspect there was an error made (by Pages) computing the edge of the rectangle for the gradient. It renders correctly in iWork '05.

  • Create PDF and RTF by HTML

    Hi all
    I have some html files.
and I'd like to produre RTF and PDF by those HTML files.
I've seen iText tools. But actually it needs well formed HTML files.
do you have any alternative idea?I mean I could stream the html and create some different data structure and then parsing it for creating ...xsl-fo but it's hard doing by myself.
    I need a quick solution.

  • Utf-8 export to PDF and HTML

    Hello People,
In my Oracle DB (Oracle 10g) I use utf-8.
Now when I have some unusual character, it works if I make the output as html. But when I make a PDF output, my bip server changes the character with a questionmark (?) Whats wrong with my BIP?
    thanks,
    Paul

With HTML (and RTF) outputs the browser (Word) will read the fonts you have available on the client machine. In the case of a PDF output its a completely portable document ie it can be opened and printed on any machine, the fonts are embedded in the document. What ever font you are using to 'see' the special characters needs to be available on the server for the Publisher engine to be able to read and create a sub set of the font to be embedded in the output PDF.
Please check the user docs for help. You did not mention the version or flavor you are using but the following demo should help

  • How can we handle graphics in DITA source files in order to display them correctly both in PDF and H

We are using FM9 to publish PDF and HTML output from DITA source files and we cannot find a way to display images correctly. By adjusting the appropriate DPI, the image gets correctly displayed in HTML but not in PDF where it appears cropped according to the the text frames of the source file in FM9, like this:
We have tried to enlarge the text frame in the source file but for some reasons FrameMaker doesn't take these changes into account.
By modifying the attribute of the element <fig> (expanse = page), it was possible to improve a bit the rendering in the PDF but not completely.
Our graphics are in JPG format.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi Al@s...
DITA doesn't provide a way to store additional information about anchored frame properties (since there is no "frame" element, just image), that's why FrameMaker doesn't allow you to set the frame size to something other than the image dimensions.
The "standard" DITA way to reference an image with two different DPIs is to insert multiple fig/image elements and conditionalize (via attributes and ditaval) each image so it shows up in the proper output. This can be a bit tedious to insert two images for each instance, but that's the typical way to handle it (unless you've got a CMS that switches the images for different output types).
If you use DITA-FMx, it provides a "fmdpi" feature which allows you to tag an image with the DPI you want to use in the FrameMaker-generated output, but the DITA coding sets no DPI (or height/width), so it uses the default image size for your HTML output.

  • How to push a button, run a report, and open output in new windows?

I have an application where I want to present the user with a form, have them enter their report parameters, and then press a go button. I would then like to display a progress bar. The report will generate both a PDF and HTML output. When the report is complete, I want to display each one of these outputs in their own browser window.
    How do I do this?

You want to retrieve two responses? Then you'll have to invoke two requests simultaneously. You can make this possible with a Javascript window.open call in the onclick attribute of the commandButton. E.g.
    <h:commandButton
        value="submit"
        action="#{myBean.submit}"
onclick="window.open('pdfServlet?param1=value1&param2=value2');" />Where the bean action just returns the HTML (JSF) result and the onclick fires a servlet, if neccessary supplied with request parameters so that it knows what PDF it need to generate.

  • PDF output vs. RTF Output

I have a few form fields in my template which say only display this line if the data exists. When I output the report as PDF the lines with no data are hidden as I'd expect. When I output as RTF the lines are still there.
Also, unticking the 'Allow row to break across pages' tickbox in the table properties prevents table rows from splitting between pages in PDF output, but not in RTF output.
Am I just missing something basic about the difference between what you can do with the two formats? Or do I need to do something else to get the RTF to work as I'd expect.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    I got it
    Thanks.

  • Differences Between SAP PDF and Normal PDF Files ???

    Hi,
In SAP, we are converting Delivery Outputs to PDF and getting with another win32 application using RFC.
However, PDF's taken from SAP don't work like other PDF's which Created with Adobe PDF Creator.
    For Example,
I have a delphi application which converts PDF files to image files (JPEG,TIF). Normal PDF files converting normally but SAP PDF Files can't convert.
What's the differences between "SAP" PDF Files and "Adobe PDF Creator" PDF Files.
    thanks
    ibrahim

I believe that the converter internal to the system is based on a specific release of the adobe software, whatever was current at the time of release.  In newer releases, the converter is probably upgraded to the newest release of adobe.

  • RTF output not consistent with the PDF output

    Hi Experts.
i would like to know why the code start@last-page works in pdf format but do not works if i generate the report in rtf format.
    Thanks in advance!

RTF & PDF output can't be exact same, we can minimize the difference by eliminating all extra spaces(Ex: from table rows, in between form fields etc.) from RTF while generating RTF output.
    For reference:
BUG:8662322 - RTF FORMAT DOES NOT SHOWS WITH FIXED HEIGHT OF ROW
