PDF Annotation in IE browser

I am able to annotate PDF (for e.g. Add Sticky Note/comments) in IE (Version: 8.0 beta) browser when I install Acrobat Professional(Version:8.0). However, I would like to achieve the same functionality with Acrobat Reader only.
Can you suggest a method to achieve the above mentioned feature either programmatic manner (JavaScript) or by installing any additional plug-ins from Adobe?
The following is the Development Environment:
- ASP .NET 2.0
- IE version 7.0 and above
- Acrobat Reader 8.0 / 9.0
A swift response is appreciated.
Thanks,
Rajeev

  • Search PDF annotations in Preview?

How can you search your PDF annotations in Preview? There seem to be no options in the Search bar in Preview. I know you can browse highlighting and annotations via the Sidebar, but you can't search the annotations?
/edit: it seems that Adobe Reader can search these annotations - select Search (CmdShiftF), then check "Include Comments").
Can anyone enlighten me on the state of annotation search with Preview and confirm that it is missing?

I will confirm that it seems to be missing - it does seem that the search bar on the right only searches the text of the PDF and not the annotations. Strange...
Thanks for the tip about Adobe Reader, I will have to check that out! One of the reasons I chose to use annotations was that I have a textbook that has been scanned as picture, not OCR, and I can't search in the text, so I figured the annotations would help me locate topics later. Hopefully I will be able to use Adobe Reader for this.

  • PDF Annotation in SharePoint

I have notice that it is not possible to add comments to PDF documents stored in SharePoint 2013. Do you know any workarounds, tools or best practices for PDF Annotation in SharePoint?
    Best regards,
    Olafur Johannsson

One way to annotate PDF file in SharePoint is to check it out to local drafts.
To accomplish that you need to enable edit by changing  PDF mapping in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.xml from <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" OpenControl=""/> to <Mapping
    Key="pdf" Value="icpdf.png" EditText="Foxit Reader" OpenControl="SharePoint.OpenDocuments"/> and restart IIS.
The only browser that allows local checkout is Internet Explorer (IE TAB works as well), remember to check use my local drafts.
I have not found any other way to do it, Adobe solution in Adobe Reader 11 Pro does not work and an ran into problems using Foxit solution, this solution has similar complexity for user as Foxit solution if their user manuals are correct.

  • PDF annotator which doesn't "import" files

I'm a PhD. student and I have to study a lot of scientific articles, so I bought myself an iPad Air. I have been storing tens and hundreds of scientific articles on my Copy and Dropbox account, well categorized and organized in folders.
If I want to read and highlight or annotate a PDF on my Mac, it's easy; just open the PDF in Preview, highlight what I want and then save the changes, *without creating a copy* of the document.
But what if I want to do this on my iPad? Every app that I tried, when I opened the PDF that I had stored in Copy (say), it *imported* it into the app's library and if I made any modifications to it, the modified file didn't overwrite the original one, but instead saved a copy into the app's library that I could then open if there is a companion Mac app.
So: is there any iPad app to annotate PDFs and not create o copy of them that is edited? I would be really amazed and disappointed if not...
    Thank you!

I've done a bit of research on this topic and found out that the app that I was looking for should be, in fact, a file browser, with Dropbox/Google Drive/other-cloud-based-storage sync and some PDF annotating tools. So I bought GoodReader 4 and I'm really happy with it, I can call it a close on this topic.
    Thank you.

  • AdobeAcrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF Files in Web Browser...what do I need to do to fix this..

I just got Windows 7 and have been having problems since loading it. Most of my drivers only go to Vista and don't recognize 7.
I have trying to download some manuals from their website
and keep getting this message; Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in Web Browser.

Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
In your Adobe application(s), go to:
    Edit > Preferences > Internet
Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
(There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.)

  • Is it possible to print a pdf page displayed in browser?

I have a servlet that will send a pdf file to the browser (IE), (i set the content type to "applicaction/pdf"). Now I need a way to create a print button to allow user that option, seems the browser print button is not satisfactory. Can a pdf be embedded in a web page somehow? Sounds like I would be dealing with 2 different reponse types "application/pdf" and "text/html"..I think the print button would call a method doing some extra things other than what the browser print button does. Is this possible? Thank you

Can you post me example how to displaying pdf in browser?
    Thankss..

  • What can I do to rectify the situation in which Firefox will not open pdf files in the browser, even though I have already used all the help suggestions to no avail?

I have tried everything Mozilla has suggested. Still when I click on a pdf, I get the message that the browser cannot open a pdf. I have gone through the help protocol, and it does not work.
I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it, and still not able to open pdf files within the browser.
What else do I do, except go to IE or Chrome and just leave Firefox completely???

A possible cause is the presence of a PDF plugin from an older Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • How can i set Adobe to open pdf from a secure website in the browser, it just pops up and asks to open save or download. we want it to just open the PDF directly in the browser with no popups, using IE 11

    Hi,
We are running Internet explorer 11 with the latest version of Adobe Reader.
have found when users login to a secure website and it has pdf links on there, it doesnt open these pdf directly in the browser, it wants to save them and then open them.

  • How do I get the Adobe toolbar to display above a pdf in the web browser?

    Hi guys,
I'm just having trouble with locating the grey toolbar, it's not displaying when I open a .pdf in a web browser.
I can open the .pdf fine, (within Safari), and usually (on my old computer) there was a grey toolbar above the .pdf & there's a print icon on it - that's what I'm looking for, so that I can print my lecture notes straight away.
The toolbar won't display on the web browser above the .pdf, but if I save the .pdf & open it with Adobe Reader, then the toolbar displays there with all of the icons etc.
So I was wanting to know if instead of saving them every time, if there's an option to get the toolbar displaying above .pdfs in Safari?
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, iOS does not provide a way to install "plugins" to Safari so there is no possible way the Reader can do this. You can use the "open in" functionality to launch Reader from Safari.

  • SharePoint 2013 cannot view PDF documents in mobile browser with office web apps

    Hi,
I'm receiving the following error when viewing SharePoint 2013 PDF documents in a mobile browser after clicking on the filename:
"Viewing of .pdf files has been disabled in Microsoft Word Mobile Viewer. Please get in touch with your helpdesk."
    My Question
Is viewing PDF documents in mobile browsers with Office Web Apps SP1 actually supported?  If so, how can I enable it?  I've already have pdf viewing working in non-mobile browsers. Word documents open just fine on mobile browsers too.
I'm getting conflicting answers for pdf mobile viewing support from various sources:
You've got Microsoft toting that they've added in PDF viewing on any device for Office Web Apps
    http://blogs.office.com/2013/07/03/pdfs-in-the-word-web-app/
A MS support person saying saying it is not supported
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_web_apps_server_2013_support_blog/archive/2013/12/31/enabling-pdf-previews-in-document-libraries-with-office-web-apps-2013-in-sharepoint-2013-open-link-does-not-work-from-preview.aspx
Another person implying that it should work because you can disable pdf browsing for mobile browsers only
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/office_resource_kit/archive/2013/07/24/control-whether-pdfs-open-in-word-web-app-or-the-default-pdf-reader.aspx
    What I've tried
When I started looking into this there was a mobile WOPI entry:
    Application     : WordPdf
    Extension       : PDF
    ProgId          :
    Action          : mobileView
    IsDefaultAction : False
    ServerName      : 20SP8
    WopiZone        : internal-http
I tried experimenting with tweaking this binding by changing the DefaultAction to true, and even removing it altogether via:
    Get-SPWopiBinding -Action "MobileView" -Application "WordPDF" | Remove-SPWopiBinding -Confirm:$false
But I still get the same message.
I removed all the WordPdf bindings and re-added them via:
New-SPWOPIBinding –ServerName "<myserver>" –Application "WordPDF" -AllowHTTP
No dice.  In fact the mobileview binding doesn't even come back... but I guess that is a different issue altogether.
    Version
    SharePoint 2013 (SP1)
    Office Web Apps Server (SP1)
    Farm Setup
    Internal facing only
2 front end servers, 1 app server, 1 office web apps server

I think the PDF support, if it exists, in only in Office 365. Always remember that the Office 365 and on premises versions will never be in sync. On premise is updated using periodic service packs and Office 365 has continuous updates. (I've heard every
    10 days.)
In my Office 365 / IE 10 tests, the PDFs open in the browser's default PDF viewer, in my case FoxIt Reader. So I can't prove one way or the other about support in Office Web Apps.

  • "Cannot use adobe reader to view pdf in your web browser" error in Windows 7 and Acrobat pro 8.1.7

I get the error "Cannot use adobe reader to view pdf in your web browser.  Reader will now exit.  Please exit your browser and try again" in Windows 7 x32 and Windows 7 x64 with Acrobat pro 8.1.7.  This happens when trying to open  a PDF file in Internet explorer 8.0.760 or when I open a PDF in Quickbooks 2008.  If I answer ok or cancel the file opens normally.  If I open acrobat 8 first then the pdf files open as expected.  I also tried a copy of Acrobat reader with no difference in the outcome.  Since this happens on two different computers one fresh copy of windows 7 x64 the other an upgrade to windows 7 x32 and they used to work before the change to windows 7, I assume there is some kind of incompatibility with windows 7 and acrobat.  Is this a known issue and will it be fixed in an update to acrobat in the near future?

tvandersluijs - I'm sorry if that screwed up your machine however:
    1. What version of Adobe Reader are you using because as you can see the registry entry is for Adobe Reader 9, if ur using Adobe Reader 8 then u need to specify ur version as PAllens entry suggested - "E.g. "C:\Program files\Adobe\Acrobat [version]\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""
    2. I've used this solution significantly because I have come across this specific issue for multiple users.
    3. All the registry entry does is tell Windows what program to use by default to open/view PDF documents.
My intention wasn't to screw up ur machine or anybody elses as I said I've used this solution many times however what I've should gave is the disclaimer to backup ur registry before u make mods so u can revert back in case. Also the ony other thing I can think of is that this solution was for Windows XP using registry editior 5, I'm noticing that the title of this thread is Windows 7.
