PDF Art box settings in InDesign

Hi Experts,
Is there any option available in InDesign to set PDF art box option in InDesign?
We are using InDesign CS4 (Windows)

Thanks for your response.
However the question is not related to Trim or Crop marks. When you check the PITSTOP log report for the selected PDF file, the details are listed in the "Page Boxes" menu as mentioned below:-
Page box Defined size Effective size
Media box (M) 241.30 x 301.62 mm 241.30 x 301.62 mm
Crop box (C) 241.30 x 301.62 mm 241.30 x 301.62 mm
Trim box (T) 215.90 x 276.22 mm 215.90 x 276.22 mm
Bleed box (B) 218.90 x 301.62 mm 218.90 x 301.62 mm
Art box (A) not defined 241.30 x 301.62 mm
As mentioned above the Art box was not defined in the InDesign PDF file.

Why won't Acrobat X Pro honor the margin (art box) from PDF's exported from InDesign CS6?
When I export a PDF from InDesign CS6 with specific margins, Acrobat does not recognize the Art box. (I have PitStop Pro 11 for page box view)

    Thanks Steve,
We are exporting PDF's as you indicate. I see the same thing. The boxes are all the size of the original InDesign document. The PDF art box should be predicated by the margins in InDesign. When we had CS3, this worked great. Now, it seems that there is a disconnect between the two Adobe products honoring the page box size. I have contacted the Adobe techs via chat, and they had no clue what I was referring to. I find it mystifying that Acrobat can not interpret the art box set in InDesign as margins.

  • Is it possible using Applescript to place a PDF as a link at a crop bounds other than Art Box?

I've spent countless hours trying to have an applescript place a PDF as an Illustrator Link at the PDF's Media Box using "make new placed item". The only result possible as far as I can tell is a link at the PDF's Art Box.
I've seached around and have seen others with the same issue, but no answers as to whether it is actually possible. As with most Applescript stuff, I am either way overthinking it or it is not possible directly.
Currently I have a workaround using an Applescript script controlling Acrobat to sidestep the problem by setting the Art and Crop box to Media box, then place as a link in Illustrator, but it is not a direct route into illustrator.
I have also noticed that in the "Adobe Illustrator CS5 Scripting Reference" that the "PDF options object properties" do not honor the PDF crop bounds (except for the default value of Media Box). Is this an inherent problem with Applescript/Illustrator and PDF crop boxes? Could it be that the options for Open PDF and Place PDF are crossed?
Thanks for any input on this, It has actually been a problem I could not get past for years.

The AppleScript Dictionary says the same as the OMV and Jongs helper… CropToBox for placing & pageToOpen for opening… For me a misleading doc mistake… And forgiven for the fact that it should dammed well be there in the first place…

  • PDF quality problems exporting from InDesign and Photoshop

    Hi There.
I'm having big problems exporting my InDesign files to PDFs and retaining the res. And it's not just the images (I understand about the dpi) it's the type on there too.
I have been exporting as the preset High Quality Print - is this wrong. Are there other settings to ensure the PDF I export retains the high-res quality and clarity?
At the moment it comes out high-res when I export it as a jpeg or eps but not PDF.
I have also noticed the same problem when I export to a PDF from Photoshop.
I really need to create interactive and high quality print PDFs from my InDesign files.
    Please can you advise.
    Thanks
    Karen

I am also having problems with pdfs exported from Illustrator and Indesign recently. I didn't have these problems before, so I don't kno if something has changed in my settings that I am unaware of.
When I use the 'japanese dots' border in Indesign, it shows on the pdf as a kind of dotted line. I'm exporting as 'High Quality Print'. I switched to Illustrator and drew a line with the pen tool, and converted it to a dotted line; it looked just how I wanted in in Illustrator, but as soon as I exported it, the same thing happened.
I have used the 'japanese dots' border in the past, exporting as 'High Quality Print', and not had this problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Art box vs Bounding box

I have an annoying problem with our company logo. It excists of text with an arrow in a circle. This means of course that anchor points are used to create the circled arrow. But these anchor points have handles that go out of the artbox area. So when I place this logo in InDesign, the bounding box is bigger than the actual art/logo. This is very annoying because now I can't center the logo in an easy way...
By the way; when I open the logo in Photoshop I can choose the option 'Crop to; Art Box (in stead of Bounding box)'. That is just how I want the logo to be shown in InDesign.
So I'm hoping that there also is an option or preference in Illustrator or InDesign that enables me to use the logo just the way I want...
    Can someone please help me?

When you File > Place in InDesign, select Show Import Options. Choose the appropraite bounding box from the dialog that will then present itself.

  • Edit Color settings (Bridge/InDesign)

Hi all, today in office we have a discussion about Edit > Color settings (we use this setting from Bridge for syncro).
The question is: if i change Color settings (es. i change the rgb or cmyk working space) from InDesign i change only the swatches color? Is this correct? Because the graphic imported can (or not) maintain their color profile. What is wrong?
    Many thanks!

Edit > Color settings (we use this setting from Bridge for syncro).
Color Settings is an application preference—you are setting the color preferences for new documents. So changing the Working Spaces in Color Settings will only affect existing documents if they have no color profile assigned (i.e., the Color Management Policies were set to Off when the document was created). If you want to change a document's profile you have to do it via Edit > Assign or Convert to Profile...
    1) if i draw a frame filled cyan swatch, this color have the profile color that i set in the color settings?
All native colors are assigned the document's profile (see Edit > Assign profiles...). The assigned profile isn't necessarily the same as the current Color Setting's working space
    2) if i import graphic with or without icc profile the assignment will be only when i export pdf, is it correct?
If an imported CMYK graphic has no profile embedded, or the document's CMYK policy is Off or Preserve Numbers (Ignore Linked Profiles), it will be assigned the document's profile.
When you export a PDF, the Output settings tab determines whether colors will be converted or profiles will be included.

Which is better software for brochures and PDF forms ? Photoshop or InDesign ? and why ?

If you are going to be making a lot of brochures, with photos, you probably want both. Photoshop to edit the photos, and InDesign to assemble and layout images with text.

  • How to "Ink Markup" a PDF when Security Settings won't Allow it?

I am an onsite computer tech support person and have been asked to solve a problem that is outside my expertise, and would appreciate any help I can find here.
The Doctor's office recieves electronic faxes from pharmacies that require the doctor's signature before being electronically faxed back, approving the medication or whatever.  Sometimes the faxes come in as .jpg files, and the doctor can use Windows Paint to "sign" a scribble in the image and send it back to the pharmacy.  But sometimes the electronic faxes come in as PDF files, and we hare having a lot of trouble figuring out how to quickly open Adobe Reader (either X or 9.2.0), make a scribble, save the image and shoot it back to the pharmacy, quickly.
I've been doing some research and while the tool "Documents>Sign>Apply Ink Signature" exists, it is non-functional.  In each case, the PDF files "Securities" settings does not allow for "Signing", so my theory is that there is some property in the document that prevents Adobe Reader from allowing a scribble to be made on the file.  I have been able to get Foxit Reader to do this, and this could be a workaround solution, but all the staff are familiar with Adobe Reader, no one has ever used Foxit before, I'm reluctant to add yet another software into their work environment, particularly if Adobe Reader has the ability to do what we want.
Am I correct, that the properties are the problem?  Can these be changed in order to allow the scribble?  Is this a global (computer) setting, or are they going to have to do this on a document-by-document basis.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    J. Quick

    George,
Again I thank you for your detailed and informative response.  I think the office in general would prefer to stay with what they know (Adobe), but the idea of having only one workstation capable of manually configuring the documents would make the whole process too cumbersome.  Do you happen to know if there is a "corporate" license, where the office could purchase the ability to use say, 5 installations of Adobe Acrobat?  And if so, what that might cost?
It's true that FoxIt allows you to do this with unsecured documents, and that it's free. But it too would be unable to work with documents that have security restrictions that prevent commenting.
This is the thing.  The documents I was unable to "sign" using Adobe Reader had some kind of "security restrictions" as the Properties said specifically that "signing" was "not allowed", yet Foxit had no issue with this, so I am wondering if the impediments to editting these documents are something that is some kind of default behavior by Adobe Reader, as they were not created by Adobe, yet when they arrive in PDF form, Adobe assumes they cannot be "signed".  I think it's a "you can't, unless the document says you can" type of situation, but only for Adobe.  I don't think Foxit is playing by Adobe's rules.
While the office may have different types of PDF's coming in & out for various reasons, there is only one class of PDFs that need a manual "signature".  The "old way" of doing it was to print the PDF to paper, sign the paper, then scan the paper back to electronic format and then send it off via (internet-based) FAX.  Very cumbersome.
These documents are electronically generated; there is no "author" per se.  No one is delibarately setting any kind of Security Setting to allow or prohibit "signing".  It just now occured to me that finding out how these documents come to us in this condition is worth pursuing, because it may be a simple matter of changing the way these faxes are recieved to have them come in as editable JPG files, rather than Security-encumbered PDF's.  I just spend some time troubleshooting a driver issue for a Scanner, and found out you can choose it's output to be BMP, JPG, etc... so I am wondering if there is the ability to alter how an incoming FAX is outputted.
Again I think you for your time and expertise,
    J. Quick

  • Changing Lion PDF default security settings

After I create a document in Word or Pages, I save them as a pdf.  I then want to digitally sign them in Adobe Reader.  But the default security settting when saving as a pdf does not allow adding a digital signature.  Anyway to change the default OSX settings so that digital signatures are allowed by default?
Preview just ignores digital signatures so I have not found any work arounds there.
    ...Bruce...

I'm OK with how to remove the security settings from a document:  Documents > Properties (security tab; "No Security").
What I'm looking for is the path to removing the security settings such that they are NOT applied when I convert a document to PDF. What is happening now is that when I convert a MS Word doc to PDF, the security settings are applied by default, which means I have to go the process, albeit a short one, of removing the security settings from the document - as referenced above.
So again, if I simply launch Acorbat Pro 9 (without opening of a document), what is the correct path to removing (permenently) the security settings so that they are no longer applied to a converted document by default?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi all
I have created In design documents which i would like to dsitribute to contacts in a PDF format (they dont have indesign software) with an editable field for them to add their contact details. ...tell me this is possible pelase and how!

At the risk of going into Acrobat forum territory I would add two important points:
    1) If, after you created the form, you want to make changes in the original InDesign document, you need to use the Replace command in Acrobat so you don't have to redo the whole form again.
    2) When you have finalised the form you need to save the PDF in (Acrobat X) as: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features. Then users with only Acrobat Reader will be able to both fill in the form, print it and save it.
The forms can be emailed as attachments, put on a CD, whatever. You can add print and save buttons to the form - all kinds of things.
(As usual, Lynda.com has tutorials on Acrobat forms and for those in the UK, Certitec.com has excellent specialised personal training on Acrobat forms.)

  • How do I Sync my Settings in InDesign CC?

How do I sync my settings in InDesign CC? I get a "Sync Settings" option in both Illustrator and Photoshop but don't seem to have that option in InDesign CC.
    Thanks,

I have to say that the whole CC serice seems to be a little 'hit and miss' at the moment. I have just found out that Folder Sharing is also not available. I purchased a 3 seat option of the CC for Teams and without InDesign CC Setting Syncing and a shared folder setup the service is much less appealing.
    Such is life, I guess...
