PDF as podcast media??

Hi there,
I'm trying to attach a pdf file as podcast media on an entry. It fails every time with a error telling me the file size is too large.
I've already changed the maximum upload value in the wikid.conf file, it's set to 1gb and the pdf document is only 120k.
Is it not possible too attach a pdf as podcast media? Seems like it should be possible but I can't seem to find info on it anywhere. Video files attach without any issue.
Thanks!

Seemingly I can encapsulate the PDF in a .mov container, it will then post it on the blog, though of course this is completely useless for practical purposes.
Can anybody tell me if there's a list of allowed file types for the "add podcast media" submission? Or any information as to how the file is processed at the back end?
It seems a bit bonkers that this wouldn't be possible, after all PDF files are valid podcast media which even iTunes can handle.
Thanks

  • "podcast" media type in options won't work on MP3s in iTunes 11

Why won't "podcast" MEDIA TYPE selection in OPTIONS work with mp3s anymore in iTunes 11? Trying to save some of my mp3s from a class as podcasts. I do this so I can run them at 1.5x speed and get through them faster. The option to change media type to PODCAST, when selected, doesn't stay selected. It keeps defaulting back to MUSIC. This just started with the new iTunes.

  • Opens pdf with windows media not acrobat reader

When I try to read PDF files, windows media opens not Acrobat reader, although I have checked acrobat reader to open these files.

fwiw - A combination of Acrobat / Adobe Reader that are not the same release is not recommended/supported by Adobe.
As long as you have to use Acrobat 9 it'd be best to stay with Adobe Reader 9.
Good to know is that the Acrobat 9.x product family passed into "End of Support" mid-year 2013 and is not compatible with contemporary OSs.

  • How to enclose a pdf with Podcast

    Hi,
I am trying to use iWeb to create an educational video podcast.
For each lesson there is a video and support notes in pdf.
I have seen podcasts in iTunes where video content and pdf files are inter-mixed (an example: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=129700138&s=143 441)
This seems simple to achieve by editing the RSS feed (see http://digitalproducer.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=48529&aft erinter=true).
But of course editing the rss feed for every post is not a good idea. Also I think it will get overwritten every time I make a modification.
Does anyone know of a way to integrate the pdfs in the RSS feed automatically?

I found out that in iWeb, which I was using to create the webpage to host the podcast, you would just add a new entry and instead of a media file post a pdf file.

  • New iTunes 10 took away auto syncing for PDFs from podcasts?!

You might as well make this a sticky since I've answered my own question:
The autosyncing of PDFs to iBooks has been changed. You now have to select your PDFs and put them to the "book" selection under media selection. I guess you can make a smartlist to find your PDFs so you can find them quickly to change their media type.

Ok Apple why did you have to break something that was working perfectly to begin with? None of the PDFs can be synced to my iPhone now even though it says it is. This is just ******* ignorant that you had to go and change something yet again!
Now I've got to figure out a good way to get these PDFs from the podcast folder into either my AirSharing or Stanza apps so I can read them again.
Does anyone have a good idea about how to do this, preferably automatically?

  • PDF as podcast episodes in itunes?

I have seen this question asked before in forums but with not with an answer.
I want my video podcasts also to have pdfs downloaded as separate aside podcasts. I've seen this done many times especially in language learning podcasts. Can this be achieved using iweb?
Dropping the pdf into a placeholder doesn't work.
    Thank you!

I’ve seen .pdf files in iTunes also. I’ve done some investigating as I may be using this feature in the future for lecture suppliments. This is what I’ve found:
As you may know, you can create an ‘enhanced’ podcast in Garageband. This will allow you to place images (any kind – like lecture slides) or even .pdf files as ‘chapter markers.’ There should be a little tutorial (video I think) about how to do this with Garageband. There’s a plus and a minus to adding extra content this way. The plus, is that you can present images to your listeners at any point in the podcast. If they have the latest version of iTunes (or maybe even earlier – I’m not sure) they will see this extra content in the ‘album art’ window. They can click on the content and see it full size in a separate window. In addition, you can give this content a url – meaning that listeners can click on the link and go to a webpage or even a .pdf file (hosted somewhere). The downside is that this embedded content is ‘one dimensional.’ I tried to embed a multipage .pdf file and was only able to access the first page (because the podcast treats this as a chapter marker). All that to say that this ‘enhanced’ podcast is not what you are seeing on iTunes.
The .pdf files that you see in iTunes come from the RSS feed of the subscribed podcast. I found a tip on doing this here:
    http://www.digitalproducer.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=48529
This seems to be how it works: When a person subscribes to the RSS feed, it’s a simple file on the web somewhere. This file tells iTunes what to go and get, as well as things like content and file type. You can have an RSS feed that tells iTunes to get a podcast and a corresponding .pdf file. It’s actually pretty cool.
But here’s the hang-up: iWeb creates your RSS feed. And like most things in the 1.0 version of iWeb, advanced things require work-arounds. It looks like iWeb creates a RSS feed from your podcast blog structure. I don’t know of anyway of altering the RSS feed (like you would as shown in the link above) except for just ‘getting in there.’ As we know, iWeb has a tendency to create brand new files when performing changes. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if your ‘altered’ RSS feed that includes the .pdf link goes away when you add a new podcast episode (hence creating a new RSS feed). That means a lot of tedious work every time you add a new episode (to re-alter the RSS file to include the .pdf files).
Here’s what I see as the least ‘bang you head against the wall’ solution. Use an enhanced podcast with urls to the pdf files. You can add the file to the main episode page in your podcast or have it hosted on an ‘invisible’ page on your site. Listeners in iTunes will be able to link to the .pdf, and listeners off the iWeb page will also have the .pdf in front of them. iWeb should be OK with this, as the RSS feed isn’t being changed after publishing and the links should be stable. The other solution is to create podcasts and not separate pages for the episodes (just drag the podcast files to a folder on your iDisk under iWeb). This way, you can create an RSS feed that includes the .pdf files. However, this means that people will only be able to listen (and get the .pdf) if they are using iTunes with a subscription to your RSS feed.
    Hope this helps
    Man I can’t wait for iWeb 2.0 (c’mon March!)

  • PDF with rich media

We are planning to make a School Newspaper and we would like to create it in Pages and then add rich media (audio, video QT and Flash) and export it to an interactive PDF which loads the content from the web and makes the PDF mailable. Is Pages the right program for this and which other tools should we use so we can create these professional looking PDF's you sometimes get from publications.
    Thanks for any help.

My guess is that Pages is not the good tool.
    The doc states:
+PDF: PDF files can be created using an image quality of good, better, or best. When the image quality is set to best, the resolution of images isn’t scaled down. When the image quality is set to better, images are downsampled to 150 dpi. When the image quality is set to good, images are downsampled to 72 dpi. Images without an alpha channel are JPEG compressed with a compression level of 0.7 at the good setting and 0.9 at the better setting.+
+When you export a Pages document on a computer with Mac OS X version 10.4 or later, hyperlinks are exported. Hyperlinks are created in the PDF document for table of contents entries, footnotes and endnotes, webpages, email messages, and bookmarks.+
+The PDF file, which preserves font characters used in the document, can be viewed or printed in Preview, viewed or printed in Safari on Mac OS X version 10.4 or later, and edited with a PDF application.+
I assumes that to do what you wish, the soluce is Acrobat Pro.

  • PDF and multi-media database suggestions?

i need to organize some pdfs and other file types such as image files in a database.
i would like to do this in something that may let me /edit/ metadata but also in a way that lets me /export/ the pdf or other files so that the file that gets exported retains the metadata.
right now i am considering Papers and FileMaker but i have also researched some of the Devon products.I am also wondering if something like Adobe Bridge might be good for this. i am using Aperture and the Creative Suites products but need something additional to knit all this together.
can anyone offer any advice or leads on this?
    THANKS

    Hi moneylender
You could try backing up phone data and resetting *#7370# to see if makes any difference. If this doesn't work then problem more likely to be hardware related.
You don't say whether phone is running 10.0.018 or 11.0.026.

  • PDFs from podcasts have lost their link to actual file-

Is there a quick way to restore all links to the files instead of one at a time? I'm getting the " ! " next to the name in iTunes.
    Thank you.

    No, I'm afraid.
What you can try is Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no faces, places, slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.*
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
*Current Beta of iPhoto Library Manager may get the Faces and Places information. Check at the iPhoto Library Manager site.

  • Can I Sync PDF podcast feed to iPad

Hi all, my first question on these forums. I have several PDF only podcasts I subscribe to, such as Beatweek and other magazines. These appear fine in iTunes on my Mac and open in Preview if I double-click on them, but for the life of me I cannot find out how to get them to sync as a Podcast, to my iPad.
Yes, I know I can manually set the Podcast feed to the 'Book' category and manually select the individual issues and then they appear in iBooks but that is annoying and I have to remember to do it every time a new issue comes down.
Why doesn't Apple make this happen automatically in iTunes? Am I missing a setting or something here?
I have Googled and searched the forums all over but cannot find a satisfactory answer or solution to this seemingly obvious issue. Is there any way to automate this in iTunes?

Server stored mailboxes with an email account that can be accessed as an Exchange or IMAP account with an email client are kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
What type of email account does the email account provider for this account support when accessing the account with an email client such as the Mail app on your Mac and with the Mail app on the iPad - POP, IMAP, or Exchange?

  • Why do manually added mp3s in the Podcasts app all show up in the same folder?

    Let me explain!
I like to download lectures and talks and audio books from other sources than iTunes.
I like to add these mp3 files to iTunes, change the Media type of them from Music to Podcast, and transfer them to my iPod Touch. This is so I will more easily know which ones have been listened to and can be removed.
This worked (and works) well in the Music app. Everything was separated into folders based on what album name I had manually assigned to the ID3 tags of the files.
But in the Podcast app, all of these files are now lumped into one folder.
I currently have eight un-listened-to episodes of Philip K. Dick's Valis on my iPod Touch. But the folder shows a count of 106 unheard episodes in relation to this audio book, because it lumps all of my other manually added podcast media tracks into the same folder.
    Why is this?
Why does the Podcasts app refuse to let me separate manually added files into individual folders based on album information?
Had the My Stations feature let me populate its playlists in a more rational manner, and also allowed me to manually change the running order of the tracks (something which only seems to be possible in the On-The-Go playlist), I would not think that this omission was such an annoyance.
I have been searching for months for mentions of this problem, but I have not seen a single one, and so I have finally decided to make my own thread.
Let me know if the nature of my problem remains unclear.
    Joakim

    That doesn't do anything.
When I plug my phone in and attempt to sync it with iTunes and click on "Steven's iPhone" under "Devices" the display to the right just says "loading..." and it stays like that for hours. Nothing happens.
As far as I can tell, there is literally no way for me to delete the photos from my iPhone and I therefore, cannot upgrade to the newest software, download new apps, etc.

  • Podcast feed looks good, but mp3's aren't downloading -- Error 8006

I'm ready to upload my first podcast to the iTunes Store, but before I did, I checked my feed by manually subscribing to the url. When I did, I got the correct name of my podcast, names of my episodes, running times, descriptions, and descriptions. However, when I tried to download one of the episodes, it just gave me a little exclamation point to the left of the episode. When I click on the exclamation point, I get the following error message:
"There was a problem downloading [podcast episode name]. An unknown error occurred (8006).
"Please check that the URL is correct and the connection to the network is active and try again."
Needless to say, the URL was correct and I my connection was fine. Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Nevermind, I figured it out myself. Thanks.
It was a libsyn thing. My podcast media file should have been directed at media.libsyn.com directory, not the content delivery networks (cdn3.libsyn.com). See this site for more details: http://podcast-you.blogspot.com/2008/05/podcasters-digest-number-3477.html

  • How do I get PDFs to appear in the site search results?

I have read that the BC site seach will show PDF files in its results - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5077569.
I have added a PDF via the media dowloads and added the litterate to a test page via the module {module_literature,a,}. I then reindexed the site, however when I search for something I do not get any results.
The site search is set up to search "Entire Website (including Secure Zone)",
Any ideas why this doesn't work?
    Thanks
    Dean

    Hi Dean
PM me the site url and few details as how you are trying to search as it should work fine.
You can create media downloads and then in site search if you use keywords such as download name then it should return the result with links corresponding to media items.
