PDF attachments are showing up as WORD doc attachments

For some reason, my Gmail program shows PDF attachments (that were created using Adobe) as a WORD attachment? When I double click on the attachment, it tries to open in WORD and just shows gobbledygook.  Yet, if I don't try to open it and save it to MY Docs, and then go in through Adobe and open it there, it works fine. This has just started in the last month or so. It's the same with every single attachment.

In WIndows 7 or Vista Go to Control Panel>Programs>Default Programs>Set Associations.
Scroll down the list to .pdf. Cick Change Program and set it to Adobe Reader. Click OK.

  • All pdf's are listed as Microsoft Word docs

    Is this normal?
    Everytime I open a local PDF file using Adobe Digital Editions, the application lists it as "Microsoft Word" and lists the file extension as ".doc"... what's up with that?
    It's not a file association issue, as PDF is assigned to Adobe Reader.

    On a Windows system disable the preview of Windows Explorer.

    Hi olivias,
    It sounds like there may be some confusion on your system about what application should be associated with PDF files. You can reset filename associations by following the steps in these articles (depending on your operating system):

  • Why are PDF attachments are showing up on the body of emails, instead of as actual attachments?

    PDF attachments are showing up in the body of my emails rather than as attachments. I need to be able to open them in other programs, eg notability, mad can't do that if they're not real attachments. On my other devices they're showing up at regular attachments.

    When a PDF that has only one page is attached to an email the Mail app will display the conte tents of the PDF in the body of the email. But the PDF is still an attachment. Tap on the PDF to open in iBooks or forward it to your computer to open it there. Again, the one page PDF will display the contents of the single page but the PDF is still an attachment and can be used like any other attachment.
    When a PDF that has more than one page is attached to an email the Mail app only displays the icon for an attachment.

  • MS Word integration with SAP CRM: can a PDF be created from the MS Word doc

    21/11
    Gurus,
    I know have a better understanding of the topic but still have 2 open questions.
    I now know that StreamServe cannot read .DOC files but can read and work with .PDF files.
    Since we are in a SAP forum and not a StreamServe forum,
    1/ I am wondering if SAP CRM 2007 can convert the MS Word generated and populated documents into .PDF. Possibly immediatly.
    2/ Can the MS Word generated and populated documents be saved by SAP CRM 2007 as .XML files?
    Thanks again.
    Dear All,
    On my project, there is a requirement to generate ad-hoc and amendable letters in CRM (2007).
    We might have +150 letters so I am thinking about using MS Word integration with SAP CRM to deliver this.
    With SAP CRM 2007, I understand that it is indeed possible to generate WebServices that will then be consumed by Word templates through the mail merge functionality. So agents will not have to enter BP name, address and so on. All this can be done by configuration which is great.
    My point of concern is how to integrate this design to StreamServe for printing purpose (we do not want to go into local printing)
    Can StreamServe collects the Word generated document?
    Should this Word document be converted as PDF before or can StreamServe do it?
    Should StreamServe exploits the XML contents within the Word generated document?
    Thanks for your help and insights about this.
    Brice.

    Hi Chris,
        Your advice helps me a lot, thank you.
        I upload an XML-Format template Word Doc to server as a MIME Object.
        When OfficeControl is started in Web Dynpro, OfficeControl automatically open the XML-Format template.
       For the first time, I get the XString-type Context attribute bind to the content of the Word Doc,
       then translate it to string, I got the XML-format content, it's great!
       However, after the first time, when I input any new contents in MS Word in Web Dynpro,
       no matter I execute "Ctrl + S" or click the "savedocument" button,
       when I translate the XString Context attribute to String, I got messy code. (but the first time, it is good plain text)
       I use the function module: ECATT_CONV_XSTRING_TO_STRING (good for first time, dump after first time),
       SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY, SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING (good for first time, messy code after first time).
       My Demo source code is in: (system) SMV --> (local object) zhaode --> (Dynpro Component) ztest_office_control
       core source code is as:
       clear itab.
      CALL FUNCTION 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY'
        EXPORTING
          BUFFER = lv_datas
        IMPORTING
          OUTPUT_LENGTH = lv_length
        TABLES
          binary_tab = itab.
      CALL FUNCTION 'SCMS_BINARY_TO_STRING'
        EXPORTING
          input_length = lv_length
          mimetype = 'text/plain; charset=utf-8'
        IMPORTING
          text_buffer = lv_datas_string
          output_length = lv_data_len
        TABLES
          binary_tab = itab.
        Can you give me some advice?
    Best Regards,
    Derek

    Don't see how I can choose the file from within Word as it's not saved anywhere?
    I have now discovered if I drag the file from mail on to the WORD icon in the doc it will open....seems much clumsier than the old option of clicking on the file to open it
    Opening attached pics seems to require the same action as well using iphoto.
    A bit of a step back in my opinion....
    Save the word file from the email to your Mac (have you never saved an attachment before)?
    Post back when you can do as I asked you to.
    And remember that we are trying to find out what is wrong, don't be so snappy!
    haha...point taken. Wasn't feeling 'snappy' when I typed it, not intended as such...!
    If I save it somewhere as you suggested I can then open it
    also, as I mentioned if I drag the doc onto WORD in the dock it opens that way as well

  • Will not show headers of word doc files

    I format Word doc files into pdf files to print paperback books. I set the files up with headers and footers. When I am finished I do a print preview and both the headers and footers show up fine but when I convert to pdf the headers aren't there. I am assuming that this is a configuration issue but can't figure out how to fix it. Any suggestions? I would appreciate some help??

    I am using Word 2007.  I create the header by clicking on headers and footers and filling out the information. I know that I am getting the header in there securely because when I do a print preview it shows up just fine. It just doesn’t travel over to the pdf version. (though the footers make it just fine) I go to Acrobat, click on the create pdf version button and I get a nice pdf version (minus the header)
    Thank you for responding. I hope you can help!

  • Pdf's are not converting to Word

    Looking for help on why any of the pdf's are not converting correctly to a Word document. I'm not getting any error messages, but what is converting is jibberish.  Nothing like the pdf doc that I'm trying to convert.
    Thanks!!

    Hello Sara
    Many thanks for your replies.
    I went through the following process a few minutes ago:
    I opened the file
    Selected tools
    Selected the convert PDF to MS Word
    Proceeded with the conversion
    This took a few minutes
    Received the message
    "File successfully converted and saved to you online account "
    Download converted file
    It then gave me a save to choice which I selected
    This time parts were converted but most was not
    And there were numerous errors.Also a wide variety of fonts most of which I was
    able to convert to Ariel Size 10 which is my normal choice
    but nemerous letters I could not change.
    As for the Samsung ViewScan microfilm viewer it is a beautiful piece of technology
    for viewing old and poor quality microfilm.
    I had not thought about checking whether it can convert to Rich Text but doubt it.
    The main thing is I seem to be able to make some conversion but not complete.
    Would it be OK to send you a page or two of the files I am working on?
    Again I apprerciate your help.
    Best wishes from Kiwiland,

  • Why can't I export a PDF containing XFA forms to a word doc?

    I have an application that I'm trying to export to a word doc, so I can save the modifications that I make. I get an error message that states that "PDF's containing XFA forms cannot be saved to this format" Can someone tell me what this means?

    I just have the reader, but I do have the capability to export and convert PDF's to either word or excel. I just checked the posting and it has to be mailed. I was just trying to save my work, but being that I have to literally mail it USPS, I will  have to print it off anyway. Thanks for your help. I guess if I had read the posting a little closer, I could of saved us some typing.

  • Entourage and Word Doc Attachments

    I've recently started using Entourage (Office 2004 version) in place of Mail. Occasionally I get a Word doc attachment that I can't open. I get a message stating it is either in use or is not a properly formatted doc. I can switch over to Mail and open the same doc with no problem at all. Any idea what the issue might be? It's not a show stopper, just a minor annoyance. Somewhat like not getting the free upgrade to Office 2008 because I forgot to send in the original boxtop (the original receipt wasn't good enough for Microsoft). Sorry, my anti-Microsoft bias is showing. Any help is appreciated.

    Since Office is not an Apple product, you should consider posting your question on MIcrosoft's own forums for their Office:Mac products, as they would be geared more toward your issue than an Apple forum:

  • Can't open word doc attachments in pdf mail portfolio

    I created a pdf portfolio by converting outlook mail messages in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. I can open the attachments but my coworkers are unable to open email attachments that are word documents (they can open pdfs).  When they go to Preferences --> Trust Manager, the first option about pdf attachments is grayed out and cannot be selected.

    Hi,
    I have Acrobat 9.5 on my machine and I am not able to see any problem in opening non PDF file attachments.
    Please give the exact version of Acrobat you are using ( to see the version go to  Help -> About Adobe Acrobat).
    Update your Acrobat to latest version i.e 9.5.
    As you have mentioned that in Preferences-> Trust Manager-> Allow opening of non PDF file attachment with external applications is grayted out,
    is it a custom installation of Acrobat ?? because in normal installation this option is not grayed out.
    Thanks.
