Pdf attachments cause mail to freeze

When I receive emails with single page pdf attachments, mail freezes while trying to show preview of the pdf. I then have to force quit mail.
These files aren't particularly large- the last one to freeze was 2.6 megabytes. This is a new and powerful computer, why cant a simple thing like a pdf be previewed in mail without crashing?

Mail is very glitchy in mountain lion. I own the same laptop and I am very frustrated as well.

  • Can't read pdf attachments in mail

Hi, I can't read the pdf attachments in mail, it opens but when I try to resize or scroll it the app crashes and close.
The problem is new, just a few days ago I can read the same pdf attachments without problems.
I aprecciate any help you can give me.
    Thanks

You probably need to restore as new or from a backup. See p. 141 of the manual... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf

  • Problems with pdf attachments in Mail.app

Any pdf attachment in Mail.app says it's empty and when I double click it says it can't be opened ´cause it's empty. The thing is on Windows using Thunderbird (yes I know, I've spoken the name that can't be spoken) the same attached pdf shows normally.
I have no antivirus in the mac, or any type of filtering. In fact, Mavericks was clean installed about a month ago. Attachments arrive from Gmail. From the Gmail web interface, the file is fine and opens normally.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Krischi,
    sounds good (for you).
What do you mean exactly by "deleted iCloud"?
I do experience the problem not only with my iCloud mail account, but with all others also.
Are you sure you have 7.0"3"? For me it says 7.02 is the newest and current version.

    Hi Peter,
Writing my post I made an mistake! I deleted my app CloudOn instead of iCloud and as soon I did it, I could handle my PDF attachment as before using iOS5.x!
The reason for this might be the fact, that CloudOn currently, according to the AppStore, is not upgraded to iOS 7.0.2!
Regarding iOS 7.0.3 it was a typo! I'm using 7.0.2
    Hope that helps

  • Trouble sending 2MB-3MB pdf attachments in Mail.

I have sent 2MB-3MB pdf scanned documents as attachments in Mail for years.  In the last month, I can only get them to send intermittently.  What can be done?  OS X 10.6.8 running on iMac and MacBook Pro.  Same problem on both computers.  Not an email server issue.

What email provider? (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, ATT, other)
What happens when they don't send? Are they just stuck in the Outbox?
Have you looked at using DropBox?  Get a free DropBox account.
Drag the files into DropBox and you can get a link to send to your friend to download.
Another option with DropBox is to use a Shared folder. If you share files a lot with your friend, setup a Shared folder and everything in the folder will be shared. Obviously they also need to setup a free DropBox account (works on Windows). Just keep the folder size under the 2GB free limit.
For the future... OS X Yosemite Mail coming this fall, will offer a way to share files like DropBox.
Mail Drop allows you to attach large files via iCloud.
Attachments can be up to 5GB in size. -new feature in OS X 10.10 Yosemite Mail

  • PDF Attachments in mail in background

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to execute two different programs in background from another program.
I am getting two different spool numbers also.
Pl guide me to convert those spool numbers into separate PDF documents and mail those PDF documents to internet mail ID.
    Regards
    Elini.P

    Elini,
The FM CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF converts spool into PDF form. And you can use FM SO_OBJECT_SEND to send mail with PDF output as attachment.

  • PDF attachments from Mail not arriving in Outlook on PC

Using 10.6.7, with Font Update, sending with Mail, via Exchange Server 2007.
When attaching PDFs to emails, the attachments aren't being delivered properly in Outlook 2010 on a PC, using same Exchange Server. They are coming through in Outllook for Mac 2011 ok.
You can see the paper clip icon in Outlook 2010, but not attachment is seen in the email when opened. Word, Excel & JPGS etc are coming through ok.
Obvioulsy compressing the PDF works ok, but would like to know the reason for this issue.
    Any help, gratefully received.
    Thanks
    Neil

In case anyone has similar issues, I've found the cause.
Basically... It's to do with the way Mail encodes attachments as "inline" If you have version2 Rollup3 of Exchange2007, which uses MAPI to send the email to Outlook, which can't render the attachment as it wasn't created the way Outlook expects it to have been.......!

  • PDF attachments in Mail not showing up in Outlook

I am using the Mail client on Snow Leopard to send a message with a pdf attachment. This attachment is not visible to recipients using Outlook 2010. Why? Windows Friendly Attachments setting is on. The PDF file was created by printing from Pages.

sorry, I should have been clearer
If you have an Exchange server; you need to apply the required Update Rollup to the Exchange server, rather than local Outlook clients.   Noe that the Outlook Web Access should still display the PDF attachment.
    "Consider the following scenario:
You have a server that has Update Rollup 3 for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.
You use a Mac Mail client to send an email message that includes a PDF attachment to a mailbox on the server.
You open the email message by using Outlook 2010.
In this scenario, the PDF attachment in the email message is not displayed.
Note The PDF attachment is displayed when you open the email message by using Outlook Web Access (OWA).
    RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

  • .PDF Attachments in "Mail" appear differently.

I am using Mac OS 10.7.4 (Lion) on a new iMac.  My old computer, a G5 PowerMac, just bit the dust after many years of great service.  I was using Entourage as my mail server, but it is no longer supported.  So i'm getting acquainted with Apple's "Mail".
Now, when I attach pdf files to my outgoing mail, the attached documents will appear sometimes as in miniature as standard "PDF Adobe" icons and other times they will appear as larger pict of the first page of the document.  I would prefer to eliminate this larger 'first page' look and keep the files showing up as PDF Adobe icons.
How can I remove this display of attachments in the larger size 'first page' view?  Any help or advise would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Linc.  I have followed your advise and downloaded Tinker Tool and changed the preferences as suggested.  I haven't tested it yet, though.  If it doesn't solve my problem, I'll so advise.  If it does, I'll be hitting the "This solved my question" button.
Still getting acquainted with Lion.  I'm sure I'll have more questions.

  • PDF attachments in Mail play like QuickTime files

This is really off the wall and a problem for which I have searched, without success, for an answer.
Using SL and Apple Mail, when I receive an email from one other Apple user, with a .pdf file attached, the first page of the .pdf file opens in Mail and when you get to the bottom of the first page of that email, you are presented with a slider, as in the type on which you click to play a QuickTime file. Click on it and subsequent pages of the .pdf file flash by, one after the other, too quick to read.
To see what I mean, look at the screen shot I took of the bottom half of one of his incoming emails.

    Is this weird or what?
    Any suggestions, observations, thoughts??
    Thanks

  • Can't open pdf attachments from Mail

When I'm in Mail and try to open or save to my computer and then open a pdf in Preview, I get an error message  -
"The file “Proposal to Seattle City Light - Wolverine Study 6Mar2012.pdf” could not be opened.  It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
This happens with all pdfs in Mail.  However, if I go to email account on the Internet and download the pdf it opens no problem. This is a new problem, though I can't say if it started happening as soon as I upgraded to Lion or if it happened sometime after (definitely not before).
    Thanks!

I think maybe I wasn't completely clear in my reply to your original message.
I logged into my gmail account online and sent myself a pdf. I then retrieved that message with Mail and the pdf opened with no issues. It doesn't seem like that would be an issue with my mail service provider, because my pdf came through no problem, but those sent from others (all of whom I think are using Windows machines and hence Acrobat) will not open.
I'm going to see if I can get someone using a Mac and someone I know for sure is using a PC to send my pdfs and see what happens.

  • Pdf attachments from mailing list not in mail

    Hi,
I receive email from a phpList server in html format. Any attached PDF files are missing from Apple Mail (version 4.4). - no attachment, no inline - just disappeared into the ether.
If I check the mail using an alternative POP client (e.g. Eudora) the attachment is there.
Checking with friends using Windoze, Outlook also includes the attachment.
It seems there is a bug in Apple Mail

  • Lion email with *.pct attachments causing mail to hang

    Hey all -
Though this was not and still is not an issue for mail under Snow Leopard, it seems that messages that have a *.pct (Macs PICT format for images using Apple Quick Draw apparently) are causing Lion Mail to go off to obilvion - leaving no option but for a force quit.
What's also a pain is that since Lion Mail folds notes together, a conversation that was fine is now corrupted upon the receipt of a note with the blated *.pct file.
Under Snow Leopard on a Mac Book Pro I find no issue opening these messages or even the file itself, let alone saving it or doing most other things that I have tried.   But sending this file to the Lion Email causes a serious issue as soon as I try and open that note on the Lion Mac Pro.
As it is not easy to tell what file types may or may not be attached till you see them, this is sort of like Russion Roulet email.   When the system hangs I have now learned to bring up mail on another system - even an iPad or iPhone seems ok with this - where I can read the note, save the file or otherwise clear the problem.
Because Lion want to be extra friendly and restart from where it was - I have run into the issue where it hangs on a note and then after Force Quitting it immediately leaps back onto the same problematic note - thus the need for some other system to move the note elsewhere or delete it.
Working with different *.pct files doesn't seem to matter - those that I have tried have all caused the Lion mail to hang.  Notes have of course been sent to Apple, but thus far crickets....
Wondering if anyone here has found a solution for this.  I am guessing that *.PCT files are going to be an issue for Preview too under Lion, but actually have not tried that yet.
    Cheers

Hi, as far as I can tell, that log doesn' help, just tells us Mail crashed, and is far too long to really peruse.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Mail>highlight the Mailbox it is in, from the Mailbox menu, choode rebuild... any change?

  • Print PDF Attachments in Mail message

How can I print a PDF attachment in a message? I don't want to print the email just the attachment.
I would-have thought right-click would give me an option to but no.

    Not that I can see.
The file has to be accessed in it's native form to be printed.
You could make a simple automator Application that prints whatever you drop on it. Then all you would have to do is drag and drop the files onto the Automator Application and it would print them.
I think it's just as easy to double-click and go to File > Print. But thats just me.
