PDF attachments no longer working in Mail

The recipient is not receiving them. If I send the PDF file from ReaddleDocs, they receive it.
Ken

To ensure I have this right:
The ipad will send pdf's ok from within the ReaddleDocs app, but not when forwarding a previously received email with a pdf attachment when you have been able to open that attachment and read it just fine. And this previously worked OK on this ipad, right?
I would try resetting the ipad by: Press and Hold the Home and Wake Sleep buttons until the Apple Logo appears.
If that doesn't work, try a reset, To reset go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset.
If it still doesn't work, then you can try restoring the ipad from within itunes on your computer or contact the apple expert at:
http://www.apple.com/support/expert/
Hope this helps.

  • Attachments no longer work in Mail

    Running 10.5.6
All of a sudden (along with all the other mobile me funky issues) I can no longer attach anything to Apple Mail. Can via the web (mobile me) but not on the Mail app. Tried verifying drive and repairing permissions. Also ran all the scripts (via Cocktail). Nada. Nothing.
    Any ideas?

This is most often experienced when you have not yet typed any text for the message. Furthermore, not being able to attach before composing any text, appears to be related to the selection to place all attachments last in the message -- Edit/Attachments/Always Insert Attachments at End of Message. This is a very good setting to help when sending to those using Outlook and Outlook Express and is new to Leopard and Mail 3.x. But I have found it similarly problematic sometimes, and leave it unselected -- but I have always made sure to do that myself throughout all versions of Mail.

  • PDF & JPEG attachments no longer work in Tiger

I just upgraded to Tiger yesterday and now my trusty Mail application is totally useless. I send proofing PDFs and JPEGs to my clients all day long and now anything I attach is a crapshoot. Everytime I attach a JPEG, I get a garishly coloured preview in the email body which sometimes I can fix by fiddling with that new image size window in the lower right of the window frame, but my clients still get an email with the image embedded in it that they usually can only save as a bmp. Mail was working perfectly under Panther. Why the blazes did they mess it up? The most annoying thing is that there used to be a preference setting that would allow you to turn off seeing images in your emails. This is seriously affecting my business and I won't upgrade any of my other Macs until this is resolved. Has anyone else found a workaround for this?

The most annoying thing is that there used to be a preference setting
that would allow you to turn off seeing images in your emails.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and there has never been such a preference setting with any Mail.app version for displaying inline or viewed in place attachments. There is a preference setting to display remote images in HTML messages which is not the same thing.
The Mail.app displays image/photo attachments and 1 page PDF attachments inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off but this is not the same as being embedded.
You can control-click on such an attachment and choose View as Icon but regardless - depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such an attachment may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened (as with the Mail.app when receiving such an attachment) or as an attached file only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which the sender has no control over.
The same is true in reverse. Windows Outlook and OE shows all message attachments as attached files only but when receiving an image/photo attachment with the Mail.app, it will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message.
Using Send Windows Friendly Attachments has no control over or effect on this and should be used regardless when sending attachments to a Windows recipient. This feature removes the Apple resource fork for an attached file only which is invisible to fellow Mac users.
Although the Mail.app does not include an HTML composer/editor, RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML. The recipients who are reporting this problem are Windows Outlook users and Outlook has a problem with Mail's RTF and image/photo attachments.
Use Send Windows Friendly Attachments, Plain Text for message composition instead of RTF and no need to select View as Icon which has no effect on the recipient's email client.

  • Bold or Italics no longer works in Mail

When composing a message in Mail, using font style shortcuts no longer work. I've tried everything! For example, in the text of my email message, I select the word(s) that I want to bold, I press Cmd+B and it does nothing to the text. The font stays regular. Alternately, if I style it manually by choosing Format from the menu and then choosing Style, I see that it shows Bold as already being selected with a check mark, but the text still is not. This also applies to italicizing as well.
Thinking that I may have a corrupt Helvetica font, I changed the font to several others only to have the same problem. To test my corrupt theory one step further, I opened TextEdit, typed some text in the same fonts (ones that I know support bold and italics), press Cmd+B and Cmd+I and it works like a charm! No problems at all. I have beautifully bolded and italicized text. What gives?
Then I thought I would check my MacBook to see what folder Mail is reading the fonts from that I have chosen. The settings are exactly the same on my MacBook as they are on my iMac and both machines are happily running Leopard 10.5.5.
Does anyone have any idea what might have caused this or how to fix such an odd issue? Is reinstalling the Mail app possible or even worth considering? My only workaround is to type what I want bolded and/or italicized in TextEdit, then copy/paste it into my message, even though I can't remove the bold or italics once it's copied in. HELP!

I always use monospaced fonts for email, by preference; it's easy to line up things. The problem is the font. Change the font to something other than what you're using, I just selected Arial and then the italic feature worked!!! Hope this helps!
It isn't about whether it's monospaced, it's about whether the font contains the style variants. Clearly Apple is taking the position of the typographic purist, which means they won't fake a bold or italic like in the old days, they only want to use it if it actually exists.

  • Search function no longer works when Mail folder is encrypted

I posted a reply in another forum that has already been marked as answered...BUT I was not satisfied with the answer...Here is the link to that forum for some context:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6362207&#6362207
And here is basically what I posted there:
This problem is a result of my attempt to put my User/Library/Mail folder onto an encrypted disk image, so that my mail images would be encrypted without having to encrypt my WHOLE Account with FileVault (rendering Time Machine virtually useless). Like many, I had to create a symbolic link from the terminal rather than use the Alias...that wasn't a problem. I can send/receive/read/write email all while it stays safely encrypted on the Sparse disk image that I created (by the way THANKYOU for making creating the sparse BUNDLE image an option, this makes it useable for time machine so it doesn't back up the whole thing)...Mail appeared to work perfectly with my folder in the new location
HOWEVER...I quickly discovered that the search tool in the upper right hand corner of the Mail View no longer works...It will allow me to search the "from", "to" and "subject" lines like any old mail program would, BUT the "Entire Message" option returns on results. There must be something special about the Library folder in my Home folder, because I haven't restricted my spotlight settings. In fact with the disk mounted, I even re-indexed my WHOLE computer just to see what would happen. Spotlight is able to search for FILE names on my encrypted disk, but the search "Entire Message" still doesn't work...are there any solutions? I've spent a great deal of time searching the internet for a solution to no avail. I feel like this question requires a real mac genius, but there are other people throughout other forums posting the same question with no answer. I'm no genius, but I'm not afraid of using Terminal if I'm told the basic gist of what should be typed there. I would love to see his answered fully. Thanks!

Ahhh! The proverbial missing information. Thanks for clarifying. Apple always has plans to fix problems, but their timetable might not meet your expectations. I strongly suggest that you report this to Apple. Send Feedback and send bug reports and enhancement requests via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Script no longer works in mail since upgrade to 10.5

I used the script below to generate mail messages. Under 10.4 it would just send the message, now under 10.5 it puts it in the Out Box and that is it.
Anybody knows how to fix this so it sends it immediately?
Secondly I used to be able to set sender to any of my accounts for example "[email protected]" or any address I liked, this too is no longer working as it uses always the account from Mail it is send from.
Anybody knows why or how to fix this?

    Sorry forgot to add:
I have found and tried the advice in article:   http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
However I have no files in the format iTunes Library YYYY-MM-DD that the artical relies on for its solution.

I don't know if this is still an issue for you guys, but I've been experiencing a problem with the MouseWheelListener added to a Component that is added to an Applet. This is browser independent, but appletviewer/browser dependent.
Check this link for some test cases:
    http://www.darkdom.com/prototype/coordinate/test/test.html
I thought it had something to do with the event getting "consumed" by other listeners, but it seems like it only has to do with the MouseWheelListener.

  • Gmail no longer working via Mail in Mountain Lion

Not sure what the problem is, but can only imagine ML is in some way involved.
Gmail stopped working via mail (not immediately after upgrade to ML, but a few days later).
First, kept asking for PW, which it decalred to be invalid. I tried restarting, to no avail. All was working fine via mail on iPad 2 and iPhone 4, plus no problem logging into web version of gmail.
I decided to try deleting the whole gmail account on the MBP, closing mail, and restarting, but this has now resulted in me not being allowed to set up my gmail acocunt at all, since (via SysPref) I am told the gmail username/PW is invalid, so my MBP is now completely incapable of accessing any of the family of services from gmail (incl gCal etc.). But all remains aOK via iOS / gmail via web.
Can anyone suggest a fix? I've looked around the various discussions and although some people say they are having need to try gamil tweaks now, with Mail, none of the solutions I saw seem to work for my case.
I am using the correct gmail address (i.e. there's no conflice re @googlemail vs @gmail) - this seemed to have been a problem for some people, but not in this case.

After a number of unrelated application add/deletes, I no longer have the function of certain Adobe functions such as combine PDF and printing as a PDF is no longer an option on programs such as Internet Explorer and AutoCAD.
I have already tried reloading the disc, but no difference.
I really need these functions back as soon as possible.

When someone sends me a photo, and I click on the Save radio button and select "Add to iPhoto" from the drop-down menu, it no longer works. I have to save it to the desktop and import it into iPhoto from there. My husband is having the same problem on his MacBook. Can anyone help?

Thanks Chris.  You did help me in that I didn't think of saving to desktop and import it iPhoto.  But, as I am making a book for my Father for Christmas this is a tedious task. I have also found once in a while it does not work on my desktop either.  Must be a Mac thing!

  • An apple script that saves mail attachments no longer works in lion

In my mail rules, I have been using an apple script, which, if the sender belongs to a certain group, saves any attached files to a special folder I have for attachments from that group. After installing Lion, It performs other parts of my rule (plays a sound, for instance and moves the mesage to a special mailbox, for another), but it FAILS now to save the attachment using the script below. I hope someone knows of a workaround. If not, I hope apple will fix this soon. Here's the script--
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
            tell application "Mail"
                repeat with oneMessage in theMessages
                    set {mail attachment:theAttachments} to oneMessage
repeat with oneAttachment in mail attachments of oneMessage
save oneAttachment in ("i828:Users:i8:Desktop:Poker Player:PPlayattach2") & (name of oneAttachment)
                    end repeat
                end repeat
            end tell
end perform mail action with messages
    end using terms from

    This worked brilliantly!
    Thanks

  • Bold no longer works in Mail, after Leopard upgrade

Since upgrading to 10.5.1 -- and maybe to 10.5 -- I can no longer use bold style when composing a new email in Mail. Command-B and Format > Style > Bold have no effect. By contrast, italics and underline still work fine.

    Hi There
Yes, I'm having a similar problem in Mail too. Using Arial 12pt (standard for mail)
    For example:
If I key 'This is a test'. Then select it and either hit command B or go up to format and select bold, i get this: *is is es* How weird!... I'd like to hear from apple on this??
Just wondering is people with problems like this are using a third party font utility?... I'm using Suitcase. Don't know if this bears any relevance?
Something else relating to Mail in Leopard too...
In Tiger you used to see how 'big' your mail was you were creating to send to someone. Say you attached a 2mb pdf or pic.. it would come up in the bottom left of your mail saying the size. (ok this wasn't exactly accurate and it might say 2.3Mb, but it was useful becuase if you went over your outgoing mail server maximum size, it would show up in red.
This info/feature has been eliminated and forgotten in Leopard Mail!
    Why?... Does any one know?
    thanks
    Pete
