Pdf attachments won't open in Adobe Reader 9

After installing Adobe Reader 9, I can no longer open pdf files that come as email attachments. Even attachments I opened two weeks ago no longer open. Error message is from Microsoft Outlook and reads "Application not found." I've found Adobe Reader in my "All Programs" list. After opening the email, I right-click the attachment and save it as a file. Then, I can open Adobe Reader and browse to that file and open it successfully. But NOT by double-clicking the attachment in the email. Any ideas? Thanks!
P.S. I posted this message in the "Adobe Reader 9 Won't Download" then realized it was off topic, so I started another topic. Mea culpa!

I encountered the same problem and tried doing what Suzanne did by right clicking the file and saving it to the computer first and then opening it.
And then after double clicking the saved file windows prompted whether I want to open it with the newly installed Adobe reader 9.0 or with Microsoft Word. I chose the Adobe Reader 9.0 and clicked on the check box asking whether we always want to open this type of file using this program.
I managed to open the file and best of all is after that I was able to directly double click on the pdf email attachments to open it.
Seems like that we need to let windows associate the file type with the program first.

  • PDF files won't open with Adobe Reader.

When I double click on a PDF file Adobe Reader opens to a blank screen for a few seconds & then closes.  The same files open fine with Expert PDF software.

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • All attachments try to open in adobe reader!

All messages in my hotmail attachments try to open in adobe reader, which of course a word document or excel document should open in its appropriate program. How do I fix this problem to have attachments open properly. When I removed adobe, the word/excel documents opened as appropriate. When i reinstalled, the same problem occured.

iBooks purchased via iTunes are normally protected with DRM and can only be viewed using the iBooks app on an iOS device. Such requirements are stated on every page where you can purchase an iBook, just below the button to buy.

  • Word and PDF Attachments Won't Open in Mail

I bought my iPad2 in September 2011. have upgraded it to iOS5. I cannot open any PDF, .doc or .docx document. I have tried opening the PDFs in Adobe Reader and the Word documents in Pages or Dropbox but they won't open. All my apps are up to date.
What seems to be happening is that Mail is having difficulty downloading the attachment. I had a 4MB PDF attachment and when I tapped on the icon it began to download, which took several minutes. I saw the byte size change from 0 to 4MB. Then I tapped on it again to open the file but the byte size dropped immediately to 0 again and the file won't open. I tried opening in Adobe Reader but got the error "The document is empty (size 0KB)" . I have gone through several cycles of downloading the file and seining the seesaw from 0 to 4MB and back again. Just won't open the file.
Same problem when I tried opening Word documents in Pages or Dropbox. Also, I reproduced this issue with my colleague's iPad (version 1, iOS4, Pages).
Just to ascertain there's nothing wrong with the file attachments, I downloaded the same PDF in Outlook, placed it in my Dropbox, and opened it in the iPad without any problem.
    Anyone else having this issue?

Have you tried pressing the attachment to get the "open in" message and open in VLC, iBooks, or other apps?

  • Downloading pdf on iPad mini, opening in Adobe reader, won't open, saying this is not a valid pdf document

    Hi
I am trying to open a pdf document which is a course qualification handbook.
I have been able to open other pdf documents in the adobe reader app, any suggestions how I can open the above document.
I am using an IPad mini.
    Thankyou

Is the course qualification handbook "protected" in any way?  For example, to limit the access to the content, a protected PDF document may prompt you to enter user name and password or use some proprietary technology to obscure the content.
Adobe Reader mobile products (Adobe Reader for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) do not support eBooks, protected PDFs, etc.
Would you try opening the course qualification handbook in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on your Windows or Mac computer and see what happens?

  • PDF won't open with Adobe Reader

I have Windows 7 OS, after an update several months ago, I cannot open any PDF's in Internet Explorer.  It opens fine in Firefox and Chrome.  I've tried to uninstall and re install the Adobe Reader, but still doesnt open in Internet explorer

Please right click the Adobe Reader icon, and in the properties dialog box. Click on the "Compatiablity" tab and check the Run this program in compatiblity mode with Windows XP. Click on "Apply" and OK
Now launch IE11 to view any PDFs, see if that works.

  • Pdf attachments won't open from outlook?

I have adobe reader version 10.1.6 and for the last few weeks, when I double click on a attachment in outlook nothing happens.
Sometimes after clicking 10 to 20 times it will finally open.  This problem does not exist if I am simply opening a pdf from a
folder on the hard drive, or from a network drive it is only from outlook.  The funny thing is, the computer sees adobe acrobat
as being open every time I click.  Task manager shows tons of instances of acrobat open yet nothing is on the screen.  Is this
a known bug?  Do I just need to uninstall and reinstall or what?  Thanks.

The PDF is not corrupt, it contains no data at all.
    from the message source

So instead of sending me the PDF someone sent back (I assume that is what I have as it is forwarded) send me a mail direct with that pdf and we will see if there is something wrong with the mail your sending, or if something is stripping attachments at the other end.

  • PDF file is not opening in adobe reader

    Hi,
When some users are trying to click on the pdf files then they are opening in browser rather than in adobe reader. I have checked almost all the settings that i could found for opening the files in client app. Few of them were-
    1. Web application option set to "strict".
    2. Document library option set to open in client application.
    3. Adobe reader version is 10.1.3
I can make it work in Firefox using the pdf settings but i don't find any settings for IE 9 and above. Thanks in advance.

Try these steps on the affected machines:
Open Internet Explorer, and choose Tools > Manage Add-ons.
Under Add-on Types, select Toolbars And Extensions.
In the Show menu, select All Add-ons.
<small style="margin-margin-right:0px !important;margin-bottom:0px;margin-padding:0px;border:0px;outline:0px;font-weight:inherit;font-style:italic;font-size:14px;font-family:inherit;">Select All Add-ons from the Show menu in the Manage Add-ons dialog box.</small><small
    style="margin-margin-right:0px !important;margin-bottom:0px;margin-padding:0px;border:0px;outline:0px;font-weight:inherit;font-style:italic;font-size:14px;font-family:inherit;"></small>
In the list of add-ons, select Adobe PDF Reader.
    Note:
If you do not see the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, try the other options on the menu. For example, on some systems, the add-on appears when you select Run Without Permission.
Click the Enable or Disable button (it toggles depending on the status of the selected add-on):
Enable sets the Adobe PDF Reader add-on to open PDFs in the browser.
Disable turns off the add-on so it does not open PDFs in the browser.
    <small style="margin-top:0px;margin-right:0px !important;margin-bottom:0px;margin-left:0px;padding:0px;border:0px;outline:0px;font-weight:inherit;font-style:italic;font-size:14px;font-family:inherit;">Select Adobe PDF Reader, and click the Enable/Disable button.</small>
Also check in Adobe Reader > Preferences > Internet, look for the Allow fast web view, this is normally checked by default.

  • How to get PDF's not to open with Adobe Reader in Safari?

I recently got Adobe Acrobat Pro. It's a great application but now when I open PDF files in Safari they appear in some strange viewing mode (shown here:)
instead of the usual view (probably some Preview plugin) where there are no navigations except when you mouse over, then you have the ability to download the file or to open it with Preview.
Is there some plugin I'd have to delete or something?

Do you have Adobe Reader installed? If so, open it and go to Preferences > Internet. Uncheck the box at the top of that window where it says "Open PDFs in browser using:", then quit.
Quit Safari, launch Terminal, enter this line and press Enter:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool false
Type exit and press Enter, then quit Terminal.
Launch Safari and try to open a PDF file; it should render directly in the browser.

  • Force PDF baggage file to open in Adobe Reader?

Hello, I develop WebHelp using RH10 and have noticed that in my published output, linked PDF baggage files launch in the users' browser window rather than in Adobe Reader. Is this something I can control?
This seems to be the case no matter how I set the options in the Hyperlink Properties dialog (Page Default, New Window. etc).
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • PDF attachments won't open in ios4 mail

PDF attachments received in ios4 mail will not open. First page only displayed. How to fix?

i finally got it to work. i went through all my apps and tried to think of anything that could interfere, including iBooks, and removed them using iTunes. I then hard reset my phone and checked to see if i could at least view them as i used to (iBooks) and i was. i then put iBooks back on my phone, checked a PDF in mail and was able to quicklook it or open in iBooks. i was able to then add the other apps back with out losing the functionality.
apps i removed to get it working:
    Stanza
    AirSharing
    EasyTask
    Bump
    Photoshop Mobile
    hope this helps
