  • .pdf attachments already open in outlook, won't send to iBooks

How can I stop pdf attachments from opening in the body of an email on iPad 3, so I can download and open them in iBooks? This only happens with some .pdf's. I'm trying to send some to myself right now from a different email, but when I open it the attachments are viewable in the body, and I can't get them in iBooks; this has happened quite a bit with certain .pdf's, and makes work much harder! Please help if you know how to remedy this!

What version of iOS are you running?
What you are describing typically occurs with single page PDFs (but not always). You should still be able to tap and hold to get the menu that allows you to open the file in other apps, including iBooks.

  • Some emailed attachments wont open

My Outlook 2011 which used to work fine has just started to corrupt pdf attachments. I use Preview.app as a default viewer. I have tried to open them in adobe but this dosen't work either. So It seems that certain types of pdfs are corrupted by 2011 Outlook. Does anyone have any ideas how to circumnavigate this so that I can go back to just clicking on the emailed attachment and having it open?

    Hello Gete,
    Re-starting the computer may help.
Cleaning the CD drive with a branded cleaner product
    may also help.
( This will get some going I am sure.... )
    Repairing permissions may also help.
Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Disk
    Utilities.
    " Repair permissions "
Let us know how you get on please?
    Regards
    Ian
    Hi Ian,
Well, I've tried the repair permissions route - it didn't work.
As for a cleaning program, which I don't have anyway - my experience with apps other than Apple's own has not been good. I tried a shareware thing called maintenance, and let it do only the default cleaning - it probably did this OK, but the Mac seemed much slower in starting up afterwards...
It reminded me of all those awful years slaving away with a Windows PC every time I tried some new wonder tool; There's a lesson to be learned in there somewhere:-)
    Thanks for replying,
    Cheers, George

Could you please let me know if you are using the latest patch of Adobe Reader i.e. 11.0.10
Try disabling 'Enable Protected Mode' option under Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced) and check if all the markups appear.

  • PDF attachments not opening

I am having issues opening email attachments that are only PDF format. I am using Adobe Reader 11 to open them. I have untinstalled and reinstalled, plus repaired, trying to cover any loose ends that there is an error with the program. I am unable to right click on the attachment however and choose, 'open' or 'open with'. There is an option to 'save to computer' but it is no where to be found in downloads, documents, desktop, and even a file search returns with nothing sharing the pdf's name. I know there was an update on January 14th. Is there perhaps a bug? I have not had any issues prior to the update. Any suggestions?

So the emails are received in Internet Explorer?  Or in a dedicated email program like Outlook or Outlook Express?
If in Internet Explorer, can you view other PDF docs like http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/adobe_reader_reference.pdf ?
If another program, what happens if you click on a PDF attachment - just nothing?

  • TS1506 old email attachments wont open

I am able to open any type attachement in emails when received.  However, I can't go back to that same email later and try to open attachements unless I forward it to myself.  this doesn't happen every time, but often enough that its a bother.  It happens in inbox as well as sent folders.
    thanks,

i have the same problem - a few days ago mail stopped opening attachments (iphone 4, ios5.1.1) - i mean every attachment: jpg,pdf,....which i have opened before succesfully!
seems like a bug which does not affect all users, closing mail, restarting, resetting does not help!! grrrr
the only workaround which i have found so far is to forward the message to youself - and attachments open without problems

  • Outlook 2010 x64 PDF Attachments not opening 11.0.09

    Computer Specs
    Windows 7 x64 SP1 with latest updates
    Acrobat 11.0.09 Update
Office 2010 x64 with latest updates
Problem is in outlook when double clicking a PDF attachment, the circle appears like it's thinking to open but then nothing happens.  If I open Acrobat, minimize it, then click on the PDF attachment in the email it fires right up.  I repaired Acrobat via Programs/Features with no success.  User stated that this did not happen previously.  I noticed he just recently got the 11.0.09 update though.  Thoughts?  Thank You.

    Hi KuNiT21,
You might want to try the steps mentioned here: http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/securetemp.htm

  • Pdf's wont open in browser

For some reason I can not get the pdf reader 9.1x to open pdf files in my firefox or IE. Any thoughts? I reinstalled both the reader and the browser.
    Stumpy

Your suggestion did not work for me (WIN XP PRO with either I.E. 8 or Firefox 3.0.9).
I also disabled Acrobat add-in in Firefox without success (I even renamed nppdf32.dll in firefox\plugins)
In Internet Explorer I found 3 different plugins and disabled all of them without success, but now I have an indication error message; this is my translation from Italian: "Program Execution Protection stopped the program to protect the system from possible damage"
Also in internet explorer\plugins I renamed nppdf32.dll without any better result.
I tried also to rename the files acroiehelpershim.dll and acroiehelper.dll in programs\commonfiles\adobe\acrobat\activex but this was not possible because the files are in use (even after rebooting).

  • PDF files wont open in browser after i uninstalled in control panel and re-installed.

this all stemed from trying to update flash player but right now it i need reader to work more urgently.
i got the flash player update request, clicked update but the update wouldnt complete so i STUPIDLY un installed it in the control panel. i didnt realise that i should have done this with an installer! it was a couple of week ago so im not sure if i only uninstalled flash player or if it was acrobat or reader aswell but i must of done something completely wrong. so when i came across the site where i need to open a form in a browser window that uses PDF it tells me that i dont have adobe reader installed. so i download and tried to install the lastest version of reader but got about 43% done and it told me the intallation timed out. this happened a couple of times. finally a couple of hours ago the installation managed to complete and i can open PDF files in it but it is still saying on the website that i dont have reader installed. this sites min req is version 5 or over.
please please help! im kinda lost!

  • PDF attachments automatically opening ???

This just started, but when I attach a PDF file to my email message it is now opening in its entirety in the message body. Some of these PDF files are large and I don't want them to automatically open when I attach them. Why did this start and how do I stop it??
Note: If I attach a "Pages" file, it does not do this. I just get the icon showing the attachment is there. How do I do that (again) with PDF files?? I have no idea whey they just started opening on their own.

In addition to the good answers others have provided, here's a last ditch thing you can try if you absolutely do not want an attachment to "open" in the body of your email message. You can either try placing it in a folder and then attaching the folder to the email message or you can try compressing it into a zip archive and then attaching that to the message. These are extra steps and the results may vary depending on your recipient's email program, as has been pointed out, but this may be helpful to you.

  • PDF Files wont open or save

I used to be able to open, view and save all PDF files.  Now when I receive a PDF as an attachment in email or on a website, it will not open.  When I try to save I receive the error message " failed to execute.
I use Windows Vista and IE 8. When I try to find the ADOBE reader file all I can find is an empty folder. I have tried to download the reader from the website and nothing happens.
    Any advice would be great
    regards
    Em

This is very unusual; I know such things can happen with Firefox and certain plugins, but not with IE.
Try this direct download link http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.1.4/en_US/AdbeRdr1014_en_US.exe (English version for Windows).
If you still have difficulties, try saving it to your local disk first, then run the installer from there.

Have you tried to open a very old iPhoto library from iPhoto 6 or earlier and downloaded
iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.0.?  Then it does not suffice to install the upgrader, you need to run it and to upgrade the library.
Or do you get this error message for your current iPhoto library?
