  • Trying to make a .pdf booklet without borders.

Hi everyone! I'm new to InDesign, but somehow I managed to get as far as to make a booklet and make a bordered pdf booklet.
I already have a .pdf booklet printed out, but it has a white border on the side. I didn't do anything to the settings to make it have a border.
I want to make a .pdf booklet without the white borders on the side. Is there something in the print booklet settings that I have to do so that the .pdf booklet file doesnt show the white border space? Thanks!

    Hi Peter,
I'm think the department that will be printing this is using a laserjet printer. They printed a proof copy last year and it doesn't look like there was any cutting. The graphic designer before me must have forgotten to proofread the content. I made a bunch of edits/changes from her original .idd file and saw that she made .pdf booklet bleeds, and individual pages with bleeds. I'm not quite sure, but I think they will be printing off the .pdf file which is why I need the .pdf booklet without borders. Just one more day until I can access my office files, I'll definitely try both options! Thanks!

  • How to properly print comments in a PDF Booklet

I am printing a PDF booklet. I am printing on 11 X17, and I am trying to print the comments on a separate page with lines. I can select this, and then press Summarize Comments. But here is where my problem lies. How do I not print comments from the first page, or how can I make sure the comments are all on the left side when I open each page in my booklet. Right now, each page of comments is on the backside of the page it is referring to. I'm assuming the issue is because clearly the cover page doesn't have a left side, so it is forced to do the following page, and so on and so forth. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    Hi Nousmedis,
I would recommend you to try again, here are the steps :
Open the document saved on the cloud on your mac
    Make the desired comments
Click on 'Save to adobe Document Cloud'
Reopen that file(cloud version) on the mac and confirm if changes are saved.
Open the file on your ipad device and the changes in the pdf should be reflected on your ipad device too.
Do let me know if the issue persists. Moreover i would recommend you to turn on the Mobile Link on both your devices (mac and ipad).
    Regards,
    Rahul

  • Can't print .indd booklet to PDF; opens print utility instead of Acrobat

Thanks in advance for any help you can lend.
I have a 16 page .indd document that I'm trying to export via "print booklet", using Adobe PDF 9.0 as my printer. Every time I try to print as a PDF, it goes through the process of compiling the images, loading fonts, etc., but then my printer utility opens (obviously giving an error) instead of Acrobat. When I just choose export as PDF I have no issues whatsoever; Acrobat opens and it saves properly. I need the document, though, in a saddle stitch imposed format for the printer.

I'm a Windows user, so I may not have this exactly right, but printing to PDF from Print Booklet on Mac is a two-step process -- first you printto Postscript file using the Acrobat 9 ppd, then you distill the file. • Printing a PDF Booklet problem

    Hello,
I have a PDF that I would like to print. When I go to my print options, in the lower left I can select "PDF Booklet." I select that option and it looks as though the pages are being compiled. But after a few moments, I get this warning:
The action "PDF Booklet" could not be loaded because it is not Universal. Please ask the developer for a Universal version of the action.
What does this mean, and how can I fix this so I can print my document as a booklet?
    I have Preview version 5.0.3
    Thank you in advance.

    Does this help...

  • Creating a multipage PDF that prints 2 booklets side by side?

Hi I am a designer with NO pre-press experience and I need some help!
I am trying to print a booklet that is set at 8.5 x 7 as a 2 up document on 8.5 x14 paper. My problem is that I don't want the booklets to print consecutive pages (right now they would print 1,2 3,4 5,6 etc.) I want them to print side by side so that when the sheets are cut we would have 2 completed and collated books.
I know that I could just duplicate each page and print that, but I am wondering if there is a quicker way to make this happen? We have over 100 different multipage PDFs to print so I'm looking for a lean way to get this done.
Is this possible? Do I need to purchase pagination software?

When I need to do this I generally make a file set up as a single page (8.5 x 7, in this case) for easy design, then create a second, non-facing doc at two-up size (8.5 x 14) and place the pages from the first file int the second tow times so I have two copies per page. I use the Multi-page importer script for this: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files

  • InDesign booklet printing to PDF all the copy is low resolution. What am I doing wrong?

I have single sheet size files (3.75 X 8.5) that I have to booklet make into PDF's so I can then put them into another InDesign file for a specific printer that we use to print policy manuals. I go to print them using the booklet feature but they seem to come out low resolution. I have tried printing them from Acrobat 8 and 9 but they still come out low resolution. HELP!!!!

to get this straight, an indesign file with the layout from pages 1-? is made into a PDF and then placed into a new indesign file which acts as the imposition template and then pdf'd again... and that pdf is printed through acrobat using the print menu... is this correct?
there are a few questions which i have.
    1) in every step, how are the pdfs being made? rather than using "press quality" pdfs from the export, try using "pdf x/3".
    2) i work for a sheet-fed offset printer which also uses a perfector press. we would normally let our RIP handle the impositions... is there a specific reason that an indesign file is being used as an imposition program in this instance?
    3) in my work, we would also make PDFs only and let the RIP process the file. unless i am printing to a laser printer, there is no reason for me to go file, print if i am making final art for output. with the imposed file which is being created, is the imposed file being output to plate via a RIP or is it being sent to something like a colour copier directly or to the RIP of a colour copier (like EFI Fiery)?
there could be several areas where the image quality is being lost but i need to understand more about the output of the  artwork - whether it is being sent to a platesetter RIP to make plates; or to a colour copier. initally though, try changing the adobe pdf export preset which is used to pdf x/3 and let us know how things go.

  • Different page sizes in booklet printing

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a booklet, printed on A4 paper in landscape, with two pages per sheet side, ie so when folded the booklet is A5 sized.
Using the booklet printing feature of Acrobat this works great, providing all the pages are the same size.
However I now need to add a couple of double-sized pages, eg for the centre pages and optionally for the outer cover. The nature of these pages is that they are in effect double sized single pages, ie they should fill a whole A4 sheet, not half, and I would prefer not to split in two.
Is there something I need to do when I create the PDF file from the various source documents?
Hope the above makes sense but hopefully the following will clarify:
For 8 page booklet, I want to print:
    A4 sheet 1, side 1 -> page 8 & page 1
    A4 sheet 1, side 2 -> page 2 & page 7
    A4 sheet 2, side 1 -> page 6 & page 3
    A4 sheet 2, side 2 -> page 4 & page 5 (this is a double sized page)
    Many thanks,
    Clive

Use the Preflight panel. Create a profile which turns on DOCUMENT > All Pages Must Use Same Size and Orientation.

  • Booklet printing in InDesign 5

How do I print a specific spread from booklet printing in InDesign 5?

Easiest way is to make a PDF and print the spread from that.

  • Booklet Printing Duplex Imposition

I have been Googling and searching the forums and I am not finding just what I need. Please help!
I want to create a booklet in InDesign. I set up my document with left and right hand pages as 1/4 of a standard letter size. So my page measures 4.25" wide and 5.5" tall. The page count varies, but let's say it's about 40 pages in length.
My goal is to print this on 4-up sheets with duplexing. I can then cut the paper, stack it and bind it.
But I am getting stuck on the imposition. Here is what I tried:
    1) I output the page from InDesign as a PDF with single pages. I then opened it in Acrobat and tried to set up the print. But there is no imposition in Acrobat and, even though I have a duplex printer, it doesn't seem to understand two sided, multi-up prining. I have a cover and a first page that should get imposes back to back, but every opion in Acrobat puts them in sequential order (of varying types of maze paths for layout).
I tried "Booklet Printing" under Page Scaling, but I could not find a way to get 4-up on a page.
    2) Tried booklet printing direct from InDesign. The main problem here is that their only 4-up option is for four consecutive pages laid out end to end. This is absolutely no help.
    3) Found the Dave Saunder script called "MakeBooklet.jsxbin", but I have no directions for it. I cannot see the code, so I assume this has been compiled. It is for CS3 and before running it, I need directions which I cannot find.
I am very stuck. I am not sure where to go from here, but I absolutely do not have $500 for some imposition software that I will use just a few times in my lifespan. I have Distiller, but still need to generate the imposed EPS pages for that. Right now, I am thinking I will have to do this manually, and that is just going to be a nightmare.
    All suggestions are welcomed!!
I have InDesign CS4, Acrobat 9 Pro and am on the Macintosh platform (iMac i7 with Mac OS 10.6.4)

You'll have to do some of this semi manually, because 1, you don't want to spend any money on it, and 2, because you're doing something a bit unusual, by putting two pages on one, and printers and free scripts don't allow for it.
So first of all run the makebooklet script on your original document, which we'll say is called filename, which will then save that file as something like filename_bklt_1. BTW you don't need any instructions for makebooklet because there are no options, at least on the version I have, just run it and see what happens!
The make another Indesign document the size of your finished page and place the filename_bklt_1 document into it.  Use the MulitPageImporter script (free and very useful) to do this and do it twice, once with the page at the top of the page, the 2nd time with it at the bottom.  Save that file and you're done.
Then when you make a change to your original filename document all you need to do is save that, and open the other two documents in order and update the links.  Fairly automatic really, especially when it's free.  FWIW Quite Imposing could do the whole thing in one easily saved step, but I totally agree, it's just not worth it for a few one off jobs.

  • Booklet printing to tabloid

I hope I am posting this correctly. I thought I could get telephone assistance regardless of the cost. My reputation is hanging on this. I would pay any amount at this point.
For years I have printed the same tabloid size art catalog from inDesign (CS6 now) by using:
    PRINT BOOKLET
PRINT SETTINGS -making sure my printer (Canon) is selected
PRINT - select SAVE AS POSTSCRIPT in the PDF dropdown
Print to desktop and open w/DISTILLER set to oversize print
I have been struggling for HOURS to get this to work. It only prints portions of each page on letter size, regardless of how many times I configure to print 17x11.
I am at the end of my rope with a deadline at the end of the day on something I have NEVER EVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH!!!!
    I am on a Mac w/Yosemite 10.10.2
How can I get the help I need??????????????????????????????????????????? It isn't working and my head is pounding.
    Pete

Well, I've now been on this for nearly 8 hours. Here's what I discovered:
I could not do a blessed thing to get this to print correctly using inDesign CS6 with Print Booklet and then DISTILLER to open the PS file (all outlined in my initial post).
What I ended up doing out of sheer desperation, I saved it as an earlier version (.idml), threw that new file, all the images and links to an external HD and found a colleague who had inDesign CS5. That party opened it all up, adjusted the links, and printed the booklet w/o a blink or hiccup.
Soooooo.... what on Earth is going on w/CS6 and the ability to print to .ps???????????????????? No matter what I did, it forced me to produce a letter-size, not a tabloid.
At least my rep isn't tarnished with the community that expected this annual piece! Perhaps in an hour my heart will stop racing.

  • Saving as a PDF in print page order [not actual page order]?!?!

    Hiya,
I've got a 20 page newsletter, each page A4, all created in InDesign CS3 [nice and simple]. I want to print the document in print page order [as appose to actual page order] on our printer here at work, because it's clever and can fold and staple to create a book/newsletter etc! In InDesign, I can obviously use the 'print booklet' option to do just this, and it works great; all my pages are printed in the correct order, I can also choose to print 2-sided, all lovely. But I was wondering if there is an option somewhere to be able to save my InDesign doc as a PDF in print page order [front with back, page 2 with 19 etc] - as printing a PDF of my artwork seems to solve a problem i was having in the thread I posted up yesterday.
    Cheers guys

This is called "imposition". Does your OS and InDesign version come with the "Print as Booklet" option?
If not, you can enter this range into the page number "Range" box on exporting:
    20,1,2,19,18,3,4,17,16,5,6,15,14,7,8,13,12,9-11
(Typed from memory; -- please check)
If I then print this PDF to my HP with the options "double sided" and "2 pages per sheet", it comes out exactly the way it should.
(Waiting for the printer ... hold on.)
Well whaddoyouknow -- I got the numbering right first time. Perfect!

  • Booklet printing of A4 pages on A3 paper

I would like to print A4 pages on A3 paper in booklet form. I select Booklet Printing + Front side only + A3 media size.
The pages print off centre. They are scaled correctly but not positioned correctly. What esle to I need to specify?
I had a similar problem trying to expand A4 to B4 paper. I could not get the A4 page to be centred on the B4 paper.
    Any thoughts?
My set up is: Ubuntu Lucid + Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 using Turboprint driver.

I am beginnig to wonder wether this might be an obscure bug in Acrobat reader 9?
If I generate a document from openoffice with A4 page size, I am able to print in booklet form successfully on A3 paper.
I  have been sent a PDF created from Finale (the music publishing  program). This seems to have identical properties to my OO document  except for PDF version:
    Finale doc:

    Optimized:      no
    PDF version:    1.4
When viewing the OO doc it will scale to whatever the  window size of Acrobat. The finale file won't. It produces a horizontal  slider.
When I print the Finale doc in booklet form the pages are  stretched horizontally to over half the length of the A3 paper so I get  only 1 and a bit pages printed per side of each sheet. Printing booklet  to A4 work fine and produces nicely scaled A5 pages.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how I can get around this problem?

Thank you, Bernd, this was the answer. In case anyone else reads this, here's what I did. From the File menu I selected Print Setup, set the paper size to A3 landscape, then opened Printer Properties. I set it to 2 pages per sheet, and under Booklet Layout chose Right edge binding. Now when I print the document I get the front cover in the correct place on the right hand side of the sheet, I turn over to see pages 1 and 2 and over again to see page 3. Perfect!

  • Trouble with booklet printing -- InDesign CC 2014

I'm having trouble printing booklet with new CC 2014. I print to postscript, but then PDF is not correct.  I see it's using Acrobat 8 driver;  how do I change that to Acrobat XI?

Peter, I was/am having trouble explaining my trouble, so I am going to tell you what happened to me yesterday... This booklet printing issue started with me uninstalling my old Acrobat 8.... since I run XI Pro -- because it caught my eye, too, that now I, like many other CC users, have three (3) sets of software on my computer. So I got Acrobat 8 uninstalled, but then had to go back to work, and postposed dealing with the other CC program uninstalls. Yes, I am using CC to run my business.... lost 6 hours yesterday trying to cope with computer issues. So, I'm heading into InDesign to print a production file for a 24-page booklet for a client on a deadline, only to find out the ID CC 2014 is still looking for Acrobat 8, or my Epson printer. The only other option in the postscript print menu at that point is "device independent", which does not allow for page setup, hence the pdf (saved from the postscript file) comes out completely wrong. (showing a standard portrait letter page setup for a now landscape ledger size document)
It took me 3 hours of search to find a post from 2012(!) that lead me to believe that if I could install (manually!...never done it before) a pdf9 PPD into the new ID CC 2014 Present folder it might just work. In fact, I had to manually program a brand new version of a software, which I've never done before -- I am not even close to a software engineer.
I still don't understand why ID CC 2014 is not looking/routed to Acrobat Pro. But then the previous CC didn't either. It was running on Acrobat 8 PPD too.
I manually built a 24-page printable booklet yesterday. Lost 6 hours of billable time. (installed pdf9PPD at midnight last night... I'll stay in business.) I see dozens of extensions in Extension Manager for ID CC 2014. Have no idea which one I would need, if any, to fix this issue, or where to install them.
Thanks for listening! And for the follow up.

  • 2-Sided Booklet printing: any trick to tweak a Ricoh printer?

We've just recently switched to the newest iMacs, and upgraded to Adobe CS4 at the same time.
We have two Ricoh printers we use: an Afico MP7000 and an Afico MP C2500.
We can print double-sided A3 booklets on the 7000.
    We cannot on the 2500.
We're using AppleTalk as the route to print on both printers.
Last year, prior to upgrading both our Mac hardware and Adobe software, we could print double-sided A3 booklets on both printers.
Our IT guys have provided us with the latest printer driver for the 2500. It's the PS one.
Everything we've tried thus far has proven fruitless. We have adjusted the printer settings to print two sided with short-edge binding (identical setups for both the 7000 and 2500).
Why can we print double-sided on the 7000 and not the 2500?
Is there a trick setting in InDesign to make this work?
Is there an alternate driver we might try on the 2500? We've tried using a generic post-script driver, and no joy.

I'm PC based, and don't have your printers, but as a temporary workaround you might want to try printing to PDF, then printing the PDF two-sided.
