  • Punjabi (Indian Language) Export to PDF

    Hello All,
We have a report which is reading the data from SQL server. The data is stored in Punjabi langauge (an indian langugage) and we are able to see the reports perfectly fine in the report viewer. (Report viewer on the .ASPX page).
But when we export the report to PDF for taking the print out, we are seeing the empty boxes for the punjabi data. The data which is in english is getting exported perfectly fine.
Any clue on how to get the data exported to PDF?
    Thank you,
    HK

Most likely the issue is non-standard fonts.  Are all used fonts embedded in the document?

  • Adobe Reader None of the version supports Indian Language Hindi

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me when Adobe Reader will support Indian Language Hindi?
    The problem in detail as:
I can save MS Word 2013 file as PDF or I convert some of the report to PDf. It is perfect. But when I want to copy paste the same pdf data to MS Word or Notepad or any other editable application then data gets lost. All Garbage data is getting pasted. PDF do not retain Indian Language data like other Languages (English, Japanese, Chinese, etc.).
I am waiting for Adobe to solve this problem from the year 2006.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Sitaram Gaikwad

    More info.
I just created a Word document that had very simple sample text in davanagari (क ख ग घ ङ च छ ज) and uses the correctly set up fonts Arial Unicode MS and Mangal. Printed to Adobe PDF printer.
These are displayed correctly in Acrobat X.
They copy back to Word exactly as their original characters.
However, I have not tested with diacritics or ligatures. I can well imagine these do not travel well.

  • PDF bookmarks not expanding for 2 chapters in my 9-chapter book. What should I look for?

In my unstructured book, page, table and figure numbering is all correct. All 89 figures number correctly. I can't get the PDF bookmarks for chapters 2 and 8 correct. Each of the chapters have a bookmark, but no expanded bookmarks. They should have several. My TOC may have a clue as to what is wrong: only the links for chapter 1 work. All of the other chapters in the TOC show a link is present, but nothing happens with a click.
I've used the same formatting throughout the book; e.g., paragraph tags, master pages, etc. I only have 2 master pages – first and right. First is used for the first page of each chapter. When I save to PDF these 2 chapters separately, the chapter title ends up at the end of the bookmark list instead of the top. I know something is off, but I don't know what to look for. Tags that I don't see? Very frustrating.
I'm relatively new to FM and don't understand the tags in the reference pages. I haven't intentionally created any formatting tags in the reference pages. I only use them for special characters and repeated graphics.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. What I want for Christmas – a decent user manual for FM! I'd take a class, but I'm retiring in April.

The title bookmarks for the chapters won't be out of order in the book, but you indicated that they are (at the end of the sub-levels) for chapters 2 and 8 when done separately. If the text frames holding these titles were created after the main flow text frames, that would explain why things are things are misbehaving.
To specify the expanded bookmark level, you need to explicitly type in the level value that you want [ignore the drop down list and "Default" setting].
From the Book file, regenerate the TOC before you test the links. If you get a "File not found" after this, in the TOC, then something is really messed up i nhe TOC file. I would rename it and create a new one for the book. You can then import your formatting from the older, renamed version.

  • PDF Bookmarks - Change Default Width When Creating PDF File from InDesign

When creating a PDF file (from Indesign CS4) I automatically create the PDF bookmarks based on the InDesign document's Table of Contents.
But by default the width in the bookmarks is always set at "Fit Page".
Is there a way to change the default to "Fit Width" in Indesign before the PDF is created?
It's too much trouble to change every bookmark in the PDF after it's created.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks, Steve. I have actually previously done what "fogharty" suggests and it does work if I want to set the pages to "fit width" or a variety of other options. However, none of the options is inherit zoom which is what I, and many other from the sound of the thread, need and want. We want to respect our end users--not dictate how they must view our PDFs. Hopefully, Adobe will listen and make this option available soon.

  • Stability of pdf bookmark structure from InDesign

I have been struggling in InDesign and Acrobat with a fairly complex pdf. I use CS2 Suite. I have built 6 books in ID each with TOC and bookmarks. I have created a TOC nav document to go to any book. Individually the pdf works fine in Acrobat. Clicking on the TOC item goes to the start of that section as desired. I put an ID button on each cover page of the 6 books that returns to the 8 page TOC cover.
As soon as I put the TOC button on each books cover, the TOC in the book stopped working and goes to the book cover. When I use the Acrobat link tool, the destination has become "p0". I manually enter the destination page within the doc, but this is fragile.
My goal is to burn the six book pdfs and the TOC pdf to CD for distribution. What makes this TOC to PDF data so fragile? How do I need to build and save my ID docs stronger? I can do this, but I just don't see where this "p0" is coming from. I am posting to Acrobat forum as well. Thanks

I have been rebuilding this set of ID files to PDFs as I stated. In the process I have clarified for myself how to get a good TOC by not expecting text generated by ID, in this case, the section marker instead of the desired TOC styled text. So I am getting clean TOC and pdf bookmarks now.
But the next step in this project has been to build a good NAV document in ID so that when I burn them all to a CD for distribution the user can navigate using buttons. In my case buttons added to the cover page of each PDF that take the user back to the CD NAV file. The NAV file has links that take the user to an individual book.
I'm finding a lot of instability in this process of coaxing the various NAV buttons to both work and not do stuff like dropping nested styles from the a book file's individual style sheet, reversing the order of styles in the TOC style option, or like you responded to here, changing the bookmarks from the TOC to this "p0" after putting on the front NAV button.
I have gotten all the pdfs for both the books and NAV document finalized and burned to a CD, where they seem to work. I am now trying to figure out what is causing all these ID reconfigurations of my styles and TOC bookmark destinations.

  • RTL & Indian Language Support for Indesign CS6 Mac

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Indesign CS6 Mac version and need support to using Arabic and Indian Language Support. I am not able to write this language. When I am pasting from Word or anywhere text is going cracked.
I also learn to enable language support from Character setting but I can't find Kashidas option on my Indesign.
It will be very helpful if some one support how to enable this option or download.
    Best Regards,
    Rakesh

That's because Larry is correct, and Ellis is correct about you needing to take Larry's advice if you don't have the World-Ready Composer in your menu. You need something like the World Tools plugin from InTools to access the complex-script tools not available in the menus in your install of CS6.
(Or you could employ Ellis' other suggestion and move to the Cloud. But World Tools is rather less expensive in the long term.)

  • How can I avoid having "XE index" entries in the pdf bookmarks frame?

    Hi,
I try to use RH9 to create a pdf file, but the contents (= bookmarks) frame looks like this:
    1 Heading 1
    2 XE "Index word 1" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 2
3 XE "Index word 2" /* MERGEFORMAT XE "Index word 3" /* MERGEFORMAT XE "Index word 4" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 3
    4 XE "Index word 5" /* MERGEFORMAT Heading 5
Apart from the apalling look, these bookmarks jump somewhere, but not to the given topic.
I know I could create a Word document instead and fix the headings there, but I am trying to delete this step from my workflow, because it is to time-consuming.
    Thank you for any suggestions!
    Irina

On second look, no:  The same .dot - now hiding all formatting and special characters - results in a pdf-bookmarks (=TOC) frame
    a) without index entries, if the ssl hasn't checked the option "Keep HTML Heading levels" and
    b) with index entries, if the ssl has checked the option "Keep HTML Heading levels"
      a)  b)
    1) Any ideas, why setting this option results in a frame showing things which are hidden in the .dot file?
    2) Would an update to RH9 help? (I am very much hesitating this step since I've tried RH9 and found it corrupts all my conditional tags.)
    Thanx in advance,
    Irina

  • Broken PDF Bookmarks from Word doc with Headings

This used to work with older versions of Acrobat Pro (I have the latest version of Acrobat 8 pro). I just author a Word doc which has headings, and then I use the Acrobat menu in Word to create the PDF, making sure "Create Bookmarks from Word Headings"is selected.
The resulting PDF does indeed have the PDF Bookmarks there correctly, but they do not point to the locations of the headings in the actual document. In other words, they're not really bookmarking anything.
Can someone confirm the workflow that is supposed to ensure the bookmarks will actually point to the heading locations? What else could be wrong?
Thanks in advance! Attaching source word file (rename xml extension to docx) and resulting PDF file.
    SK

Thanks Bill. I am using 8.1.4, and Word 2007. Don't really want to downgrade though (it's been around for several years now). One thing I've been wanting to try is re-installing to the latest PDFMaker COM Add-in (PDFMOfficeAddin.dll), but I don't know how to. The add-remove programs doesn't seem to allow me to re-install individual components.
Just to confirm, the PDF bookmarks are meant to point to the Word heading locations, correct? I was wondering if you could try converting the Word file (just rename the .xml extension to .docx), and looking at the resulting PDF bookmarks. If they work as expected for you, then it's definitely something about my particular system configuration.
The Word headings to PDF bookmarks feature is so basic, and Word 2007 has been around for several years now, if there was a problem with it I'm sure there would be a fix from Adobe by now.
    Thanks for any further insights!
    SK
PS - Are other people experiencing the issue I am running into? Trying to gauge if this is a common problem...

  • Garbage charaters in Thai PDF bookmarks

    Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas why Thai bookmarks cannot be displayed correctly in Acrobat (4.0 and above) after generated from FrameMaker 7.x?
I have tried both system font - FreesiaUPC and 3rd party font, however both can't resolve the garbage charaters in PDF bookmarks.
Moreover, I copy & paste the title/heading from PDF page to bookmarks and some of the codes are missing.
    Please help.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    P.C.

    > ... why Thai bookmarks cannot be displayed correctly in Acrobat (4.0 and above) after generated from FrameMaker 7.x?
This is apparently a limitation of the pre-FM8 legacy overlay fonts (non-Unicode) scheme.
It's not just Thai. It doesn't work for bookmarks based on text containing the standard Symbol or Zaph Dingbats fonts either. What gets passed into the PostScript for PDF bookmark generation is apparently just the 8-bit Roman text code points, and no mark-up for font overlay.
Other than aftermarket tools, the only solution is to migrate to Unicode, which also requires FM8 or later.
    Here's the test I ran.
    New simple document.
    Heading1 text:
      X5C
    Tag the 5 as Dingbats.
    Tag the C as Symbol.
    Print to PDF.
The body text appears, approximately, as
      XXX
    The PDF bookmark appears as:
      X5C
It also doesn't matter whether you tag as Character Format or as local font override. Neither gets into bookmarks. This choice, however, does matter for generated files, because it needs to be Character Format for TOC and IX to work, for example, and the Ch. Format needs to be in-catalog for those files.
I might add that none of this is new. A search of any Framemaker forum looking for "character" .AND. "bookmark" turns up any number of on-point hits. The fundamental problem is the inherent limitations of codepage fonts. Adobe fixed this issue. The "patch" was called Framemaker 8.
Even with aftermarket bookmark tools for FM7, I suspect my example above might not be fixable, because it alternates overlays inside the string.
