PDF bookmark out of order

Hello to those with great FM skills,
I am saving a FM file as a PDF. The document has 7 sections with a few sub sections. All is well in the PDF except, the first section in the document is ending up last in the bookmarks sidebar of the PDF. It doesn't matter what I select in the PDF Setup dialog box. I've tried Thread by Column, Thread by Text Frame, and unchecked without success. The FM paragraph tags for each title are the same. It's a one-column doc with a left side head. The section titles begin in the side head and continue into the column. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much.
Frances

Actually, I incorrectly worded my response. I have 2 different master pages: one for the first page and one for the pages that follow. I discovered that the text from the first page didn't flow to the next page. I found a number of pages without the correct flow. Now I'm figuring out how to fix my text flow so the pages flow in order. I think I'll get it right. It's just frustrating, I didn't get it right the first time around.

  • Automator - When using the Render PDF as Image action, the first file is out of order (naming).  How can I fix this?

I am creating an Automator Action to render PDF files as Images.  When the PDF is multiple pages, the first page has no numbers, so it ends up at the end of the list.  Here's an example:
When it is a single page, the result is:
    filename.png
When it is multiple pages, the result is:
    filename 141.png
    filename 142.png
    filename 143.png
    filename 144.png
    filename.png
First, it always seems to start at 141...not sure why.
Second, I did try to add an action to rename and make sequential, however the resulting list was in the same order... except with additional numbers at the end.
    Any suggestions?

    I see.
This worked when I tested on 1 PDF:
The Run Shell Script Action is:
    basename=${1##*/}
    echo ${basename%.*}
If it's still out of order, add: Sort Finder Items [by creation date] after Render PDF Pages as Images

  • PDF bookmarks not expanding for 2 chapters in my 9-chapter book. What should I look for?

In my unstructured book, page, table and figure numbering is all correct. All 89 figures number correctly. I can't get the PDF bookmarks for chapters 2 and 8 correct. Each of the chapters have a bookmark, but no expanded bookmarks. They should have several. My TOC may have a clue as to what is wrong: only the links for chapter 1 work. All of the other chapters in the TOC show a link is present, but nothing happens with a click.
I've used the same formatting throughout the book; e.g., paragraph tags, master pages, etc. I only have 2 master pages – first and right. First is used for the first page of each chapter. When I save to PDF these 2 chapters separately, the chapter title ends up at the end of the bookmark list instead of the top. I know something is off, but I don't know what to look for. Tags that I don't see? Very frustrating.
I'm relatively new to FM and don't understand the tags in the reference pages. I haven't intentionally created any formatting tags in the reference pages. I only use them for special characters and repeated graphics.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. What I want for Christmas – a decent user manual for FM! I'd take a class, but I'm retiring in April.

The title bookmarks for the chapters won't be out of order in the book, but you indicated that they are (at the end of the sub-levels) for chapters 2 and 8 when done separately. If the text frames holding these titles were created after the main flow text frames, that would explain why things are things are misbehaving.
To specify the expanded bookmark level, you need to explicitly type in the level value that you want [ignore the drop down list and "Default" setting].
From the Book file, regenerate the TOC before you test the links. If you get a "File not found" after this, in the TOC, then something is really messed up i nhe TOC file. I would rename it and create a new one for the book. You can then import your formatting from the older, renamed version.

  • Stability of pdf bookmark structure from InDesign

I have been struggling in InDesign and Acrobat with a fairly complex pdf. I use CS2 Suite. I have built 6 books in ID each with TOC and bookmarks. I have created a TOC nav document to go to any book. Individually the pdf works fine in Acrobat. Clicking on the TOC item goes to the start of that section as desired. I put an ID button on each cover page of the 6 books that returns to the 8 page TOC cover.
As soon as I put the TOC button on each books cover, the TOC in the book stopped working and goes to the book cover. When I use the Acrobat link tool, the destination has become "p0". I manually enter the destination page within the doc, but this is fragile.
My goal is to burn the six book pdfs and the TOC pdf to CD for distribution. What makes this TOC to PDF data so fragile? How do I need to build and save my ID docs stronger? I can do this, but I just don't see where this "p0" is coming from. I am posting to Acrobat forum as well. Thanks

I have been rebuilding this set of ID files to PDFs as I stated. In the process I have clarified for myself how to get a good TOC by not expecting text generated by ID, in this case, the section marker instead of the desired TOC styled text. So I am getting clean TOC and pdf bookmarks now.
But the next step in this project has been to build a good NAV document in ID so that when I burn them all to a CD for distribution the user can navigate using buttons. In my case buttons added to the cover page of each PDF that take the user back to the CD NAV file. The NAV file has links that take the user to an individual book.
I'm finding a lot of instability in this process of coaxing the various NAV buttons to both work and not do stuff like dropping nested styles from the a book file's individual style sheet, reversing the order of styles in the TOC style option, or like you responded to here, changing the bookmarks from the TOC to this "p0" after putting on the front NAV button.
I have gotten all the pdfs for both the books and NAV document finalized and burned to a CD, where they seem to work. I am now trying to figure out what is causing all these ID reconfigurations of my styles and TOC bookmark destinations.

  • FlashPaper not preserving PDF Bookmarks

I want to be able to convert my PDFs (with bookmarks) into
FlashPaper, preserving the bookmark and having the newly created

  • Saving as a PDF in print page order [not actual page order]?!?!

    Hiya,
I've got a 20 page newsletter, each page A4, all created in InDesign CS3 [nice and simple]. I want to print the document in print page order [as appose to actual page order] on our printer here at work, because it's clever and can fold and staple to create a book/newsletter etc! In InDesign, I can obviously use the 'print booklet' option to do just this, and it works great; all my pages are printed in the correct order, I can also choose to print 2-sided, all lovely. But I was wondering if there is an option somewhere to be able to save my InDesign doc as a PDF in print page order [front with back, page 2 with 19 etc] - as printing a PDF of my artwork seems to solve a problem i was having in the thread I posted up yesterday.
    Cheers guys

This is called "imposition". Does your OS and InDesign version come with the "Print as Booklet" option?
If not, you can enter this range into the page number "Range" box on exporting:
    20,1,2,19,18,3,4,17,16,5,6,15,14,7,8,13,12,9-11
(Typed from memory; -- please check)
If I then print this PDF to my HP with the options "double sided" and "2 pages per sheet", it comes out exactly the way it should.
(Waiting for the printer ... hold on.)
Well whaddoyouknow -- I got the numbering right first time. Perfect!

  • Printing is out of order

I have a new 15 in. Macbook Pro. and an ancient hp deskjet 845c printer. On my windows computer I had no problems and on the new mac my printing is a little screwy. For example I just printed off about 5 different documents in .pdf form through preview. In each the order was backwards for me. If my document had 3 pages, I would expect the order to be 1st page - or title, 2nd, and 3rd, as was lined up in the document. Instead it prints 3, 2, 1, with the title page on the bottom. I'm sure this is an easy fix, maybe I setting to be tweaked somewhere but apparently I don't know enough about it, any ideas?

That's a function of the printer driver.
1 Select the Print dialog by typing command-P or by selecting 'Print' from the File menu.
2 The Print dialog appears. If it is in 'collapsed' mode, select 'full' mode by clicking on the triangle to the right of the printer's name.
3 If the Print dialog is in 'full' mode, look for a pull-down menu with the name of the application you're running; if you're in the Finder, look for 'Finder', if you're in Safari, look for 'Safari', etc.
4 Pull down the menu and look for 'Paper Handling'. Select that. The Print dialog should change.
5 Depending on which printer you use, there should be two or three new pull-down menus at the bottom of the Print dialog. Look for one which says 'Page Order' or similar; the exact wording will vary depending on which printer you are using. There should be two or three options. Select 'Reverse Order' or wording similar.
6 Print. The pages should appear in the order you wish. If they don't, try one of the other options.
Note that typically the printer driver will try to print pages so that when you pick up the printed document, page 1 is uppermost. Some printers print with the output coming out face up; they would usually print the last page first and the first page last, in the order 5-4-3-2-1. Some printers print with the output coming out face down; they normally print with the first page first and the last page last, in the order 1-2-3-4-5.
Depending on the printer there may be other options, including printing out of order, printing just some pages, printing in booklet order, and printing upside down.
Note that your printer is an older one, and printer drivers supplied from HP may be minimal; you may get better drivers from the HPIJS Project <http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macosx/hpij s%23Printers> or GutenPrint <http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php>. Both 3rd-party sources support the DJ845.

  • Autonumber and text in separate frames affects PDF bookmarks

Since making a forced return in an autonumber specification does not work, I tried the solution of making the chapter heading span two text frames. The first frame is very small to handle only the one or two digits of the chapter number and a space, while the second frame is the normal text column where the chapter title is displayed. This setup allowed me to make the chapter number and heading right-adjusted on the page so that users scanning through pages can more easily find the beginning of a chapter at the outer right edge. I connected the two text frames so that they are part of the same Flow A. The autonumbering for the chapter heading was unchanged. I used the specification:
    H:<$chapnum>\sn
Basically, this is a heading series with the <$chapnum> followed by an en space, which, after testing, provided the proper spacing after the number to force the chapter title to the next frame.
The solution looks good in the document, in references to the chapter title, and in the TOC. The only problem is that when I print the book to PostScript and use Distiller to generate the PDF file, the PDF bookmarks have a doubled chapter number, as in:
    1 1 Introduction
    2 2 Getting Started
    3 3 Using the Interface
I can delete the duplicated numbers manually, but I would like a way to prevent them from appearing. I don't understand why Acrobat is adding the extra chapter number when it appears nowhere duplicated within the FrameMaker process.
    Any solutions?

  • Reset PDF bookmarks when saving as PDF from structured FM - Book 11.0 with fm components (*.book).

    Hi,
I've read the forum discussions/solutions on setting PDF bookmarks, but I'm afraid the various solutions appear to only work if you are consistently working in .fm book files, not if your source files are in structured .fm format.
For example, I have to constantly reset the bookmark settings in FrameMaker when I follow our PDF process of saving the structured FM files via the File -> Save Ditamap As -> Book 11.0 with fm components (*.book) route. I can set the bookmarks in the first file of the book, and/or set them using the Format -> Document -> PDF Setup menu options. But an hour later, if I discover I need to make a change in our source material (.ditamap/.xml) and create a new PDF again, I must make the same exact bookmark settings at the .fm level in this process (i.e. creating new .fm files from the .ditamap/xml files overwrites the previous .fm files, requiring bookmark setting, again).
I think the only possible solution for a short-cut in this situation is to write a script to set those bookmarks each time we go from .xml to .fm. Does anyone see another way around this?
    Thanks!
    Diana

    Hi Diana...
You're right that only FM binary files can store PDF setup information (in theory XML files could store this data, but that's not the way it's currently set up). In order to have this data available in files generated from XML, you'll need to set it up in the structure application template(s). You also need to make sure that all files in the book use the same tag names. The following topic was written for DITA-FMx users, but the concept should apply to regular FM-DITA as well ..

    I hope that helps.

  • PDF Maker - Converting Word 2010 headlines to PDF Bookmarks

    Hi Guys,
I'm facing some issues within my organization using the Adobe Acrobat PDF Maker for Word 2010.
Since version 10.1.1 it seems that the bookmark creation tool malfunctions .
I'm trying to produce a PDF bookmarks based on word 2010 headlines , when I'm comparing version 10.1.1 output to 10.1.2,10.1.3,10.1.4 and even 11 outputs I can notice a variety of changes although all my settings are identical .
Is there any known issue regarding this problem ?
As for now  - I cannot upgrade any of my users to any version higher than 10.1.1.
    Should I report a new bug ?
Any help will be really appreciated .
    Thanks !

No I was referring to the post that started this thread:

Sound like appearanced order is changed between the different versions. He saying if you set up Bookmarks in one version it should look the same in all versions. Apparently the organization (Business) he belongs to, each station have different version of Acrobat.
The best answer would be have evenone update or upgrade to the same version.

  • Enable PDF Generation of Sales Order from Opportunity not working

    Hi all,
we are trying to enable the PDF Generation for Sales Order from Opportunity.
We´re working on the ERP-HCI Scenario.
We´ve setup the necessarry configurations (chapter 11.3.11) how described in the document:
    https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/012002523100002166322015E/1502_SAP_C4C_ERP_HCI.pdf
    1. Create Endpoint in ECC for the WS "SalesDocumentPrintPreviewQuery"
After saving the settings we have an calculated enpoint:
    /sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/salesdocumentprintpreviewquery/{SAP-CLIENT}/salesdocumentprintpreviewquery/salesdocumentprintpreviewquery
    2. Create a new Communication Arrangement in C4C for the Scenario "Print Preview of Business Documents in SAP Business Suite"
    Question to the following Step:
Go to Advanced Settings and enter the URL you have captured from SOAMANAGER in the Create Endpoint section.
Why we use the host and calculated endpoint from the ECC instead of the HCI settings, and maintain in HCI the target host and endpoint?
The Check Service and Check Connection test was successfull.
    Finally if we try the scenario from C4C (Customers > {Select a Customer} > Opportunity > Sales Document > {Click the link}
We got a blank new Window, in the C4C UI we get the error "PDF Document could not be retrieved"
In the ECC > SOA Runtime Error Log i get the following Error!?
    What´s wrong with our config?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fabian

There is nothing impossible in SAP. After all there is a code behind everything that we see in SAP screens and transactions and that code can be changed according to our requirement. That has always been m firm belief.
Like I said get hold of your ABAP programmer and write out the spec and he should be able to do it.
Its news for me that you can generate an automatic PO from a GR so if that is possible then why not this.
    Its not been attempted before.
Try creating a new Sales doc type and map it to a delivery and see if it works. Much similar to a cash sale and rush order when both docs get generated immediately. Maybe you need to map your copy control criteria too in a way it can be done. Also maybe you need to create a new field called Immediae sales Order like we have an immediate delivery check box in a sales order so that an automatic sales order can be generated when you save a delivery.
Like I said it needs some coding.
    regards
    Jude

  • Responses are out of order

The responses we receive are out of order to the questions in the original document.  Why does this happen? There are times when the question names in the response file are not the same as the question names in the original document. Again, why?

    Hi;
I am going to take a guess that your form is an Imported PDF form, and not a form created in FormsCentral.  This is a known issue with Imported PDF forms, the response table does not match the order of the fields in the PDF, the only way around this is to re-order the columns manually.  For the names used in the Response Table, you can edit those form field names in Acrobat prior to importing so they are more useful and match the form.
    These FAQs might be useful:

This one shows how to edit the form field names (to resolve a different issue, but still useful for your question on the names): http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-4191

  • Sync now works (finally) but toolbar icons out of order every time: new info at end.

EDIT: THis part was solved; see last post.
Hi, I'm running FF 27.0.1 on a Win 8.1 desktop; and a Vista Laptop; plus the latest FF mobile on my Android phone (S4)
Suddenly, nothing syncs. Now, the Win 8.1 desktop is new. I set it up. I migrated all my settings by pairing with my laptop. All was well. It worked! Suddenly, it just sort of stopped working.
As a test, I created a bookmark for Time Magazine on my Laptop. It does not appear on the desktop nor the phone, no matter how many times that I sync. The desktop, indeed, says it hasn't sync'd since 2-15, even though I keep telling it to sync. I then created a bookmark for a YouTube video on the desktop. That doesn't appear on either of the other devices. I checked the phone--and somehow sync was turned OFF. I turned it back on. And sync'd. No change.
--I unpaired the laptop and went through the pairing sequence again, using the desktop as the master. No change
--I "reset" sync on each machine by choosing to "merge sync" data. No change.
I saw another recent thread on this recommending some file deletions. I'm reluctant to start deleting things without knowing the consequence of what is lost, and also, of course, that solution may not apply to me.
    So, any help appreciated.

Ok, I give up....if anyone has any ideas, please advise.
At this point, FF seems to take it as its mission in life to constantly rearrange my toolbar bookmark icons.
I don't know what else I can possibly do.
First, I deleted my sync account entirely. Started again with my new desktop and gradually added my other devices (laptop, tablet, android phone.)
Every time I go to the laptop, things are out of order. I don't much care because that's what used to happen in the past, too. I could never solve it.
But I rearrange things anyway, hoping sync will be right on the desktop. It never is. I wake up the next morning, open the desktop and all the icons are rearranged in random order yet again.
Next, I figured maybe it was the phone causing a problem. I deleted sync account from the phone!
Next, I made sure to rearrange all toolbar icons properly on the desktop and the "reset sync" so that desktop data replaces ALL OTHER DEVICES.
I reestablished a sync account on the phone and let the phone sync. I watched the desktop toolbar icons rearrange themselves out of order as I watched.
I give up. What can be done about this problem? THere's not much point having a toolbar of bookmarks if a 5-7 of them are always (the same 5-7, btw...if that's significant) scattered about at random with no alphabetical order and I can never find them.
This has been a long standing problem. Now that it is screwing up my desktop constantly, I just am ready to throw it through the window.

  • Putting pdf pages in chronological order

I have several documents in one pdf folder that are dated.  I would like to put these documents in chronological order by date, how do I do that?  I also got a message that some of the content is not editable because it was scanned.  So, if I export this to a Word document, how do I put the pages in chronological order?
    Thank you,
    Slspencer

Use your OS's file browser/explorer to sort the files (in the folder) by date.
Rename each. Top down put a numeric prefix in place.
    000-filename
    001-filename
    nnn-filename
Open Acrobat and use the "Combine" feature to combine the files into a single PDF.
An option available with the Combine feature is to have Bookmarks used. Tick this choice.
The single, new PDF is created. Save it.
Open this PDF file's Bookmark pane. There'll be a bookmark for each of the files.
The order of Bookmarks and the order of PDF pages reflects the order you set when you renamed the source files (a date sort).
Note that you could manually position the order of files to be combined in the Combine dialog.
I find it easier and quicker to add the prefix to the source files.
Using Acrobat XI you'd process the new, single PDF through OCR.
As some of the PDF pages already have renderable text they cannot undergo OCR.
Acrobat will alert you of this when it comes to the first of such pages.
Just tick the box in the lower left. This tells Acrobat to ignore any upcoming pages that cannot be OCRd and to keep on truck'n to OCR the page that hold the scanned image.
Now, use Acrobat XI to export the the PDF to the Word file you want.
    (File :: Save As Other :: <make the desired choice> )
Do not expect a 1:1 export. You have a diverse collection of source files.
While you might get 1:1 if ALL the PDFs combined were well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant with 14.8 of ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1) you don't have that.
So --- To be expected — cleanup of the content in the Word file.
    Be well...
