I want to take it to the iPhoto program and adjust it.
It says that the format is unrecognizable.
What do I do to make it readable on iPhoto?

How can I paste a pdf of a Publisher document into Pages so I can edit?

I have been asked to print a document that was created in Publisher on a PC. I have been sent a pdf of the document, which is A4, printed both sides, with four A6 text boxes on each side, with the same artwork and text in each box. The trouble is, the layout is wrong so when it is cut into four the margins are not even. I have Acrobat 7.0 Standard (which is know is very old) but I haven't used it much and can't work out how to edit the pdf. At the moment all I can do is copy and paste the entire document into Pages but then I can't extract just one A6 text box from the rest. If I could do that it would be a breeze to set it up correctly in Pages so that it works when cut into four A6 pieces. When I go to Get Info it says it is not locked and I have permission to read and write.
Can anyone explain these things to a beginner, please?

There are several ways we can go about this.
*1. In Adobe Illustrator* you can open the pdf file directly and chop out the bits you don't want and resave them individually. There maybe problems with fonts not being embedded as it comes from a PC where such things are mostly verbotten.
*2. In Acrobat* you can do some editing and avoid the fonts issue. But the procedure is a bit more involved.
If it helps, you need 2 things:
+Menu > Tools > Advanced Editing > Select Object Tool+ and
+Menu > Split Document… / Crop Pages…+
Using this you can unpick the pdf file removing the parts you don't want. Not as simple as it sounds because you need to understand why some objects select with others and why some are unselectable which has to do with grouping, masking and compounding.
*3. In Preview* cut apart the multiple pages and parts of each page. To split the multiple pages you will have to open the set and then delete the pages you don't want and save the remaining page with a new name.
To delete a page click on it in the sidebar and hit delete.
To crop a page use the +Select Tool+ in the top of the window and drag around the part of the page you want then +Menu > Tools > Crop+ and resave with a new name. Be aware this does not actually get rid of anything outside the select it just crops the view of it.
*4. Which brings us to Pages*. Having divided the pdf into individual page files you can then drag them into Shapes on your page the size of the parts you want to show.
When you click on the shape with page in it a little bar shows up underneath with +Edit Mask+. Click on the +Edit Mask+. You will see the shape, which is the mask, gets a grey dotted outline with white resizing boxes on the corners and mid points. If you need to adjust the crop or size of the shape drag on these.
Behind the shape outline is the image with the cropped parts outside shown greyed out. The greyed out part is the hidden part. If you click outside the shape but on the greyed out part of the image you select the image itself and can pull at its corners or sides to change its shape. Or if you just click on the greyed part of the image you can move it around so that it moves relative to the shape cropping it.
If you have several sections to be shown in each shape, you can move them one at a time to show each one. Say you have 4: 2 top and 2 bottom, option drag the shape with the picture in it to make 4 copies. Then in each one pull the image to reveal in turn top-left, top-right, bottom-left and bottom-right.
Do this till you have all the parts separated and rearrange them where you want.
*A bonus tip:* Cut out a step by opening Preview, next to Pages, with the multiple pages showing in the sidebar. You can drag the pages from the sidebar directly into the shape in Pages, without having to divide the .pdf.

How can I get pdf files to minimize up into the upper left corner of my Windows 8.1 Pro screen?

I have both a laptop and a desktop running Windows 8.1 Pro. When I open a pdf file on my laptop, and I click on the adobe reader icon in my taskbar at the bottom of the screen, the pdf doc is minimized up into the left hand corner of the screen where I can then right mouse click and insert the pdf file left or right of any other document I pull up onto my screen, i.e. I can create side by side windows of the two documents. But if I try the same thing on my desktop and then click on the adobe reader icon, it will not minimize up into the left hand corner. Does anyone now I can get my desktop to do what my laptop is doing since they are running the same OS?

This can be a bug on Mac.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:

Like when open a drawing pdf which is inserted into Excel(office 365) as an object, some lines, dimensions with remark can not be displayed and only few graph can be displayed.
But if the drawing is a separate PDF file, not inserted into Excel(office 365)as an object, the Adobe XI reader can always open it with all graphs, figures, texts, lines etc. smoothly.

Please explain in full detal what you are trying to do and what happens when you try. I don't understand what you mean by "displacing a pdf (file?)".

You can if you have Acrobat. If you don't, feel free to give it a try. You can download a 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.
Keep in mind, though, that Acrobat isn't intended to be a word processor. So, while you can make adjustments to text and graphics, if you need to do a major overhaul of the text in the document, it's best to go back to the source document and edit the content there.

Moving into temp house 2 mths,it has bt,can i shar...

I am moving into my Dads house for one or two months untill i find a new place. I am still under contract with BT and have bt broadband too. It will cost me £150 to get out of my contract, then when i find a new place it will cost me £130 approx to get bt back. Just for the sake of 2 months is there a way I can transfer my bt phone and broadband to my Dads address without disrupting his bt phone and broadband?? I dont necessarily want to use my phoneline or broadband, i just want somewhere to `store` it for want of a better word at little cost. I have heard of something called `Call sSgn` where the you can have 2 lines on one socket and the ring tone is different depending whose number is called, but what about broadband on this setup? Or does anyone have any other ideas? I hope someone can help save me almost £300.

If it would cost £150 to cancel, then it would actually be cheaper to order a new line at your father's address, and transfer to that - the fee for a new line is normally only £130.
Whether or not you have to pay £130 at the new address in 2 months depends on whether or not it already has a working phone line. If the line is connected, there's no charge to take it over.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Press your Yahoo! e-mail > Notes: Off

Can tracks recorded in Pro Tools be moved into Logic?

I'm orchestrating a song for a friend of mine, who recorded vox and a guitar part in PT. How can I move these into the L8 world?

I'm primarily a Logic user, but I do have access to Pro Tools 7.1.1 LE and a Digi 002. Recently my band recorded drums at a studio via Pro Tools 7.1 and the question of how to get these tracks into Logic without having to remap the track positions came up.
There seems to be three viable solutions I have come across:
1. Export to OMF (no automation data, or plugins will be transferred, just the sound of the dry tracks and positions of the tracks)
2. Export to AAF (supposedly the volume automation settings will be transferred as well as the position of the tracks but not plugins)
3. Bounce to individual tracks and remap them into a Pro Tools or Logic session/project.
I for one love the idea of not having to put together all the drum tracks we recorded back into their positions in either Pro Tools or Logic so option 1 & 2 appeal to me. The problem with Pro Tools is you need an add-on called Digitranslator to export files into OMF and AAF files and that runs about $500. Quite ridiculous if you ask me seeing that most other DAWs have this feature built in. If you do have access to Digitranslator I would give that a try before resorting to bouncing all the individual tracks and remapping them into the DAW of your preference.
However, there seems to be problems exporting crossfades between Pro Tools and Logic while using OMF or AAF formats although I don't have first hand experience exporting files with crossfades between the two DAWs yet. I will have to give that a try sometime soon.

I have signed out then back into the cloud. I have comfirmed location of the photostream folder. I have have even restored settings on my phone. any ideas on what I can do to get it working again? or do I have to accept defect, and manually save my photos?

I Can't Partition My Hard Drive (Files Can't Be Moved)

today I wanted to install Windows XP Professional (SP 3). I printed the Boot Camp Documentation and followed the Boot Camp Assistant. I chose a 12 GB partition (my iMac's 320 GB hard disk drive currently has a little less than 40 GB of free space available) and began the partitioning process. The progress bar slowly grew from left to right.
After a minute or two I realized that I need an installation disc for Windows. I grabbed a 4.7 GB DVD-RW (which was already written to) and slipped it into the Optiarc drive. Shortly after that the partitioning process failed with an error message saying that there were files that can't be moved.
Slightly discouraged, I decided to create my Windows install disc before dealing with this problem. Although this wasn't such a straight-forward task (the first burning attempt failed due to a medium write error right before it finished, and don't forget weird noises when inserting the disc the second time) I managed to successfully burn the .iso image containing the Windows install within three attempts.
I then tried to partition my disk again, numerous times, but didn't get lucky; the same error after the same two, three minutes. What is it with Boot Camp and my hard drive? I hope there is an answer to that, and I hope the solution wont require me to backup all of my files, reformat my HDD in "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", and restore all of my files from the backup, as I don't have an external hard drive to which I could backup to!
I KNOW I am stupid for even trying this without a backup, and I would be devastated if I lost all of my data, but I am an optimist (in respect to catastrophes at least). I also need to get Windows ASAP, so, while a backup drive is on its way, I decided to just risk it.
Has anyone here had the same issue and managed to work around it? (Preferably without any backups involved!) If not, does somebody have advice, OTHER than… (well, you know already)?
I would appreciate any responses, even if, I guess, it's just to tell me that I should most definitely wait until I get an external disk to backup to.

Hello, The Hatter, I read about the 'trick' of backing up, erasing, and restoring too, but I figured it would take longer than defragmenting the disk.
But the defragmentation process has just finished! so I'm gonna try to run Boot Camp again soon!

And P.S. I didn't clone my system onto the external drive, I just inserted the Mac OS X Install CD, rebooted holding down the "C" key, and installed a fresh Snow Leopard system onto the predetermined partition. I will use that in cases of emergency, when my main/internal system becomes unusable.
