PDF comparision

I have made 2 pdfs from same indesign file, after makin one pdf I have made a little bit change in black plate (Text only) and then made again a new pdf. when I am comparing the both pdfs to ensure that nothing is move incidently, comparision shows that 2 images has been changed i.e. in first pdf image pixel was 650 x 216px and in second pdf shows 650 x 214px. means in seacond pdf 2 pixels has been moved...But I ensured that there is another problem not in images. The ID document has 4 pages and I have changed only 1st and 4th page. comparision shows image changes on these 2 pages only. Please try this at your end before giving the answer. I hope you will face same problem. I have shared this question also in Acrobat community

I just tried this, and cannot duplicate the problem. When I make changes to the text on pages 1 and 4 and re-exported a PDF, images on pages 2 and 3 are unchanged in the second PDF. My document, of course, is quite simple - a single text frame on pages 1 and 4, and a single image on pages 2 and 3. Perhaps there is something more specific to your document structure involved here. Perhaps you could post one or both PDFs so we can get a better idea of what you are talking about.
Also, speaking of comparing PDFs, I cannot resist a blatantly self-interested commercial plug here: Any Mac user who has need to compare PDFs for changes like this at different points in the production cycle should check out our new product, PDF Comparator 2.0 which makes quick visual work of such comparisons. (It uses the Mac OS' PDF rendering mechanism which is why there is, unfortunately, no Windows version at this time.)

  • Indesign Exporting PDF to Web for Magento website Troubleshoot.

Hi guys, usually I'm the one throwing advice to people rather than recieving it. I'm currently working for a company that uses a magento website. I was hired less than a month ago and apparently, no one knows who created the previous pdf's but we'll get to that... There's alot of problems going on here.
First and foremost, the website we have has a link that you can click on to bring up these documents for viewing/printing. The predecessors and I upload them in pdf format and need to be pdfs. I use indesign to create/edit these older pdf's. When I export the files and then view them they look great (in acrobat). Then after I upload them, there are many things that can go wrong, but they ALWAYS go wrong.
As a "high-quality print" pdf they all crash saying "an internal error occured". The steps that happen are, they begin to load, and according to the load bar at the bottom they get about halfway or so (this is on a Mac). Then a white screen and the error shows up. This is the same for Windows as well (except the load bar is a circle and fills all the way to 11o'clock). It tends to render all the way or halfway with Windows but never looks right.
As an interactive pdf, the same happens as above, but it's much faster to crash and a second error pops up about acrobat (I can't remember the exact wording but I figure that it's in direct correlation with the first error message). Also, there is no interactive part to my pdf, it's just some basic shapes with fill, multiple pictures and some text.
All other options go all crazy. Some load with glitches, some don't. Here's a screen shot of the best looking one....
This is based off the PC because it actually shows something, which usually loads it as normal colors. Those lines however are always there and always inverted colors.
Now for the screwy part, because I'm a graphic designer I automatically blame the website and internet stuff, but we have figured out it MUST be a pdf because of a few things.
    1. JPGs load correctly, even when the files are larger than the pdfs. This specific one was 3MB as a jpeg compared to the 2.6MB pdf. We can't use jpgs because they're multiple page documents...
    2. Single page high-quality print pdfs seem to have a 50-50 shot of loading correctly. The other thing is the older pdf's (as in before I got here) are loaded up fine and work great.
    3. EPS's are WAY too big and are saved as single pages as well.
    4. GIF's and anything else, the quality of the images suffer and they need to be print capable.
So it's gotta be pdf or I'm going to be in a world of hurt.
Here's a few more things in case you're wondering. I've got all images and internal pdf's linked properly. I've saved them embedded and not embedded. The only thing missing is a font, but that shouldn't change anything? I've saved it as a PDF 5,6,7 & 8. No avail... I've saved as RGB and CMYK, pretty much anything and everything I've done, I've tried, I've failed. I'm out of ideas... maybe somehow rastercizing/flattening images into one layer would work? But I don't know how to do that in ID. By the way, I have access to the CS6 suite in both Mac and PC so I can work either way.
Thanks and sorry for the lengthy situation, I just figure it'll help solve the problem quicker.

Given that you have no problems viewing the PDF files directly in Acrobat after they are exported from InDesign, I think you can safely assume that the problem isn't InDesign, the format of the contents (whether EPS, JPEG, PDF, etc.), the options used to export the PDF, etc.
The symptoms would point to the PDF file being corrupted either as part of the upload to the website or in the download.
Have you tried doing a file compare – even just a comparision of the physical file length – between the PDF file directly after export from InDesign and the PDF file you download from the website? My guess is that the length is different and likewise, the contents differ.
One area to look at is that of whether either the upload or download function of this website is trying to treat PDF files as ASCII files and thus, mucking around with what it thinks are line endings – CR, LF, CR/LF, etc. – making “fixes” that in fact corrupt the PDF files. PDF files are always binary files. All network operations with such files should be done with binary protocols (FTP is one file transfer protocol that often messes up with this).
Check into this and let us know what you find.

  • Indesign PDF Export issue - quality

I have InDesign Desktop CS5 and InDesign Server CS5.5
When I export using InDesign Desktop, it exports a 2.16mb file and everything is sharp.
When I export using Indesign Server, it exports a 264kb file and at 125% zoom level, it looks blurry.
The preset we used was High Quality Print.
I cannot get the file over 2mb on InDesign Server (max was 1.2mb with all the settings turned on).
How can this be when it's using the same pdf export preset and same template? I also tried manually creating new preset based on the High Quality Print settings but it's still blurry.
Just for testing, I tried this on the regular InDesign Server CS5, and it exported fine. What settings were changed between CS5 and CS5.5 (everything is set to default settings)?

The directory structure for the template files are the same for Desktop and Server.
When I open up the PDFs generated by both, doing a side by side comparision, the server looks blurry at 125% zoom level while desktop looks sharp.

  • Convert Web Page to PDF only creating in landscape mode

I have a web page that is in XML (xccdf) format with an XSL stylesheet. It opens successfully in any browser. They are Security Technical Implementation Guides from DISA (http://iase.disa.mil/stigs/index.html)
I'm trying to convert these to PDF so I can do comparisions between them. But every time I save them they come out in a Landscape orientation. I've tried Letter, Legal and Custom as Portrait or Landscape and they always are created in Landscape.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Thanks for the reply. I can't open the XML file directly in Adobe, so I have to open them in a browser first. I checked the browser settings as well and they are set to Letter and Portrait. Changing those doesn't alter anything either.
I found a workaround for this, but it's time consuming. I open the XML in Word, make tons of edits, then Save As PDF. It saves it correctly in Portrait mode. From there I can do my comparisons. But some of these documents are hundreds of pages and this is a poor workaround.

  • Unusual InDesign/PDF/Printer Issue

I am currently using InDesign CS3 and Acrobat Professional 8.
I received a CS4 file that I could not open from another designer, he saved it as a .inx file which opened in CS3. I made the changes to the document, relink the images, and when I would export to pdf, the images in the design will print with a faint box around them, when in fact they are images that are cutout (have no background). 3 images are .tiffs and one is a .psd. They all look fine on a computer screen, but when it prints, the box shows up. We printed the pdf on several different printers and on one printer there is a box around those images. On another printer the box is not there. I'm not sure if its an Indesign issue, PDF issue or a printer issue. I've tried exporting it as PDF/X-1a:2001, that didn't work.
    Please help! Thanks.

The directory structure for the template files are the same for Desktop and Server.
When I open up the PDFs generated by both, doing a side by side comparision, the server looks blurry at 125% zoom level while desktop looks sharp.

  • Comparing Versions of Certified PDFs

We have an application that stores PDF documents in Oracle in a BLOB column. The documents get a certifying signature before they are first added to the database. They then get pulled out and displayed to the user in an embedded Acrobat 7 or 9 Control in a C# application. In there the user signs a Signature field and the database is Updated with the new version. There can be several users who each sign the document in turn in preconfigured Signature Fields. There is a securtiy issue since the link between the front end application and the database is a WebService, so the public Update method on the web service could be used to change a PDF to something completely different thus invalidating the supposedly secure storage.
So my question is, is there any way to compare pdfs in code (Javascript or ActiveX) and can it be done to ignore modified Signature fields?
If we could do that we could confirm that the document is "the same" as the original before doing the update.
    Thanks for any advice.

No way... Normally I do a download for the scirpt or lsmw into a sequential file.
Script can be downloaded using RSTXSCRP.
    LSMW have export option.
The download is done from both the system and you could use any external file comparision tools like <b>ExamDiff</b> which is freely available in net. You can find this exe with the above keyword in google.
I felt this a better way for comparision.
    Cheers,
    Thomas.

  • Quality of "Reflection effect" Seriously Degrades in PDF Format

    Hey guys,
Very simple question: Is it possible to adjust the quality of the reflection effect when exporting or saving as a PDF file?  The reflection effect looks great when you view it in the Pages app, but I want it to look just as good in PDF format. Here are some screenshots for comparision:

  • PDF Vs XPS

If both pdf & mars are similar except the zip support,
can anyone please let me know comparisions between pdf/xps/mars.
Till now informations says that mars is been created with open
    packaging support (zip).

It would be easy to get into a mud wrestling match comparing
XPS and Mars, and I'd prefer to avoid this!
There are many similarities and also quite a few differences.
I think the key similarities are the use of XML and a ZIP container
to represent an underlying document which is formatted in pages. I
think the key differences are that Mars matches PDF in terms of
function and capability, and XPS today has a much shorter feature
list. There are also many lower level differences such as Mars's
use of W3C SVG to represent pages and XPS's use of XAML.

  • When i send a PDF via e-print, it gets cropped, is there a way to prevent this from happening?

PDF's are printing fine when i print direct to the printer but when they are sent by e-mail they get cropped, is there a way to get the document to fit to page when sent as an email attachment?
The Printer in question is a HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551n, the printer is brand new installed last week so i don't know if this is the norm or not.
Edit: Please can someone please explain how to correct this.

If you're using a desktop or notebook PC to send the email you could try installing the HP ePrint Mobile Driver software on your machine, the link to the download is here. This will allow you to print the PDF to any ePrint capable printer without having to email it to the printers email address as an attachment.
Once installed and with your PDF open on your machine, select Print from the File menu, then select "ePrint" from the list of available printers (don't select the actual printer itself) and click Print in the bottom right corner of the box. A dialogue box will open showing the avaialble ePrint printers you can print to. Click on the Connected button on the left of the screen to add your printer to the list if its not listed.
    Hope this helps.

  • PDF Printing Problem with HP UPD Printer

    Hi,
in our Company we use the HP UPD Driver PCL5 in Version 5.9.0.18326. The Printermodells are HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401, HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color M451, HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow M830z, HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 MFP M525dn, HP LaserJet Enterprise M630dn, HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow M680z and HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow M880z with newest Firmware.
If a PDF file is printed using Adobe Reader, it takes a long time until the file is printed on the printer. Partially individual pages are printed in one-minute intervals. But if I use another PDF viewer such as Foxit Reader, PDF documents can be printed at normal speed.
Other documents, such as Word or Excel files are printed normally. Only PDF documents that are printed with Acrobat Reader or Adobe Acrobat are affected. We use the Acrobat Reader version 11.0.10. With version 11.0.6, the problem also occurs.
Sometimes it also happens that the PDF document fills up the memory of the printer when it was printed with Adobe Reader. With Foxit Reader this does not happen with the same document.
Does anyone know this problem and knows what to do?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ cups ▹ error_log
from the hierarchical list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
