PDF corrupted - can't open in acrobat on

I have Pages '09 - 4.0.5 running on OSX 10.6.7
Suddenly today it won't export any PDFs that acrobat can read. It can open in Preview OK but not acrobat. It is only Pages causing this problem. Other applications such as numbers or Mail can create PDFs no problem.
I have an identical set up of OSX and Pages on another machine with no problem.
Any idea how I can fix this?
Thanks!

A bug has been introduced in OSX 10.6.7 affecting Postscript and PostScript OTF fonts.
TrueType fonts are still OK.

  • Pdf's no longer opening in Acrobat X Pro

In the last two weeks or so, users have reported that where PDFs in libraries used to open in Acrobat Pro client, now the pdfs only open in browser.
We've checked the library and it's still set to Open in client Application.
In Internet options, pdfs are set to open in acrobat pro.
In Acrobat Pro's prefs, Acrobat Pro is set to be the default file handler for PDF.
we need to be able to get people who need to open direct into the client app working again.
anyone know of recent events that could have changed the behavior?

Behavior for PDFs is not handled by SharePoint, but rather Adobe Acrobat. Validate Adobe Acrobat's PDF browser extension has been disabled (you can do this via IE and I believe Adobe Acrobat has this option within it's own Preferences).

  • I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader ( I had it until recently) and don't have an "edit options"

I can't open PDF files, can't open, update, or download Adobe Reader. (I had it until recently.) None of the "helps" seem to help. I can't even open Adobe Reader now.

Ignore the instructions about "edit options", to install Adobe Reader download the installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ and run the installer. Alternatively, a direct link for the latest version of Adobe Reader is:
    http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3.4/enu/AdbeRdr934_en_US.exe
The following article should help you set it up - [[opening PDF files within Firefox]].

  • Adobe pdf printer can't open log file

I am trying to print an Id cs6 file to a pdf file.
During the printing process, the progress indicator indicates it prints a book file to about page 23 (of 293) then I get an error message that says acrobat can't open the xxx.log file.
The printing progress indicator continues to indicate a file is being printed, but no file opens in acrobat at completion.
I expect the program to ask me to name the output, and then to want comfirmation, in this case, to replace the existing file.
This process worked until last night.  I was trying to make a PDF to upload to create space.  The file create space got has photos and images with too low resolution.  Not sure why that's happening either.  I think Adobe is printing screen resolution images.  I went into the adobe presets in the file drop down menu to try to increase resolution, and since, have been unable to print.  I probably did not fix the image resolution problem either.
THe error message likely involves a conflict between two parts of the program.  It's not accurate at face value.  Any suggestions to fix it?
    Thanks
    Roy

I have displayed the captures of the screens that I got to when I looked at the printer properties for the Adobe PDF printer. I am looking at the properties in AA8 and there is a chance they are different in AA9.

  • Make a pdf document default to open in Acrobat on other computers

Ok - so I know one must make their own computer default to use Acrobat to open pdf's... but I know most macs default to 'Mac Preview' and you have to manually change this. A lot of 'non computer type' people just don't bother. So I wondered if there is anyway to make the pdf itself open in Acrobat on other people's machines, despite what their defualt setting is?
I've used links etc in my pdf to make it interactive, and they don't work well in Preview, so I want to make sure people are viewing it correctly. Any ideas? Thanks!

It's not that simple as you have to take account of three things:
Many third-party solutions have no forms support
Some have bits of JS but not all - you may for example be in a mobile version of Reader, or in Acrobat with enterprise feature lockdown.
Some third-party apps that do have rudimentary JS engines declare the same software ident strings as Acrobat or Reader, specifically to avoid triggering a detection script.
Rather than using forms, the most efficient method is to use a layer (OCG) that is visible by default, and is subsequently hidden by a doc-level script. Most third-party apps, even those with no forms support, will still happily render OCG content. It'll even display if someone imports the PDF into an editing program.
Getting code to reliably detect that it's running in the Acrobat Family is difficult but not impossible - but you don't trust the ident string until you know you're in Adobe code, instead you sniff for API objects inside try-catch loops, which the third-party apps cannot implement. Some of the security handler options are nice and Adobe-specific.

  • Older PDF's don't open in Acrobat X

I have recently installed Acrobat X on my Windows 7 laptop.  A large majority of my older PDF's which were downloaded from the NFPA website will not open.  No error message.  Acrobat opens, but no file appears.  Other PDF's, of all different ages, open.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

I would recommend updates for AA X (help>updates). Have you tried to open the PDFs from the file menu of Acrobat? Were you able to open them before -- with what software?

  • PDF links can not open correctly

The links in PDF when I click,  I can not open just  flash and nothing opened.  I can not find the internet explorer open setting in Reader.

By "link" you mean a URL (linking to a website), not a local path (linking to a local document)?
Anyway, can you try if Reader 9.5.5 works better?

  • Online documents can't open after acrobat trial version

I've had a trial-version of adobe acrobat but I don't have it anymore. Now all of a sudden, I can't open online document links in any browser because there is a note that says that I have to agree with som license agreement. How can I go back to opening my online documents with adobe reader??

It still doesn't work. I just tried to delete adobe reader and reinstall it but this message still pops up when I want to open a link to a document. It is in danish but what it says is: "Before you continue, you have to start adobe acrobat and accept the end user agreement". But I don't have Adobe Acrobat on my computer!! And I don't want it...

  • L can't open Adobe Acrobat.

When I try to open Adobe Acrobat by clicking on a shortcut or by opening a pdf, nothing happens. The process shows up for a second and then dissappears. At some point in the past I received an error message along the lines of "Adobe cannot connect to a *** server" I don't remember exactly what kind of server, and I cannot seem to get that error message. I've tried to re-install it before, it worked for a while and now I'm getting this problem again.
I'm getting a similar problem in Adobe Digital Editions. I cannot authorize my account, it says I am not connected to the internet.

I cannot open Adobe Acrobat at all. Adobe reader is fine. The message did say something about not connecting to a dde server.
I am not on a workstation. I am on a regular laptop running Windows 7 Home x64.
I would also like a fix for the Digital Editions Authorization thing.

  • OCR of a scanned file in Acrobat XI pro produces a new pdf, which cannot be opened in Acrobat 5.0

I want to make automatik linking and bookmarks in the pdf with the tool Compose, which I only have in Acrobat 5, not in the XI pro
First step of OCR I had to do in XI pro
I could not open the new file With the old versio 5.0. In XI pro it opens without showing any error.

There have been changes to PDF to allow better compression since the days of Acrobat 5, and they are now being used where appropriate.
Perhaps you can use the PDF Optimizer (via Save as...optimized PDF) to change the PDF level back down to what you need. The file could well get much bigger.

  • PDF initially freezes when opening with Acrobat 9 Pro and Acrobat Reader

    Hi-
Every time I open a pdf, either with Acrobat 9 Pro or Acrobat Reader, it freezes the application for about 10-15 seconds.  Afterwards, it's fine.
    Any suggestions?
Im running XP Pro, 3.25GB of RAM

Any chance you are also using Quickbooks?  I understand from Intuit that there is a known issue between  Quickbooks and Acrobat 9.  My computer does the same exact thing and I am running Quickbooks Pro 2009. Windows XP Pro 64-bit.  According to the forums on Intuit, the same problem does not exist with Acrobat 8.  So, you have to uninstall Acrobat 9 then in stall 8.  The problem is that the uninstall does not completely uninstall 9 so you can't install 8 successfully.  Apparently Adobe has an uninstaller that will remove ALL of Acrobat 9 but you have toi get it from tech Support - if you can find one that speaks English well enough to understand what the problem is and what you need. Then you need to find a copy of 8 to use.
The problem is not in opening Acrobat.  It opens just fine.  It doesn't lock up until you open a PDF file.

  • PDFs take forever to open in Acrobat X Pro...

How do I get my local pdfs to open faster in Acrobat X Pro?
Acrobat 7 Standard was much faster.

You have both Adobe Reader (which offers one kind of conversion, paid for one way), and Adobe Acrobat Pro (which offers another kind of conversion, paid another way). Be sure you understand that these are two different bits of software, and that you can and must choose which one to use.
