PDF Corruption

Hi there,
Currently I am generating pdf files using the Oracle Report Server on an unix server. Files located on the unix server. Then using a NFS mount to mount the directory in a Windows 2000 server.
A windows application is then used to pick up and process the files when done.
However, currently I am encountering corrupted pdf files. They are usually pretty big files.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to resolve?
Thanks.

Ian, the examples you give on your website look like a font issue. It's the text that doesn't render right.
I'd start by clearing your font caches using a tool like YASU:

  • Annotated PDFs Corrupting When Emailed

Our school has a one-to-one initiative with iPads (2200 students and 120 teachers). Student iPads on campus are a mix of gen 1s, 2s, and 4s. We recently began having trouble with annotated PDFs corrupting when they were emailed from students running iOS5 on iPad 1s to teachers running iOS 8 on iPad 4s. We use two different PDF annotation apps, Goodreader and Notability and the issue remains the same regardless of which app is used. When the annotated PDF is emailed out of the app from the student to the teacher and the teacher opens the PDF on their iPad the pages turn the color of whatever "ink" the student used with they annotated. It completely covers all content on the page. The PDFs open fine on a computer though. I've never seen anything like it in the 3+ years we've been using iPads on campus. Is it a compatibility issue of some sort between the operating systems? Looking for any feedback or suggestions I can get.
    Thanks!

Not at all - the viewer is very basic indeed and does not recognise the annotations and only reads the basic pdf content.

  • ICWC document emailed with no extension or PDF corrupted.

    CRM 5.0 SP11.
    1. We access a document in the inbox and an attached document exist & agent has visbility to the document in the Document Search (order ack, invoice) saved in CMS as OTF files.
    2. Agent can click the hyper link and see the document (Good)
    3. Agent can select the document and email, in the ICWC email screen agent can click the attachment and again see the document. (Good)
    4. The person receiving the email receives the attachment but their is no extension (.PDF, OTF, etc).  By double clicking on the extension windows ask which program to use and adobe 7.0 reader does open the form but the user has to repeat this action for every email received with an attachment.
We wrote an enhancement to add the .PDF to the email and step #3 works fine to the ICWC user But the receiving email recipient gets the PDF file but when opening the email the PDF is corrupt
" Adobe reader could not open .... is not a supported file type or is corrupted, was sent as email attachment and not properly decoded"
I'm posting here but not sure if this is a SAPconnect issue? Hoping someone else has encountered this. Will give points.

  • PDF corrupted when trying to convert to PDF

I have a problem converting a file to PDF from WORD 2007.
The whole thing becomes corrupted, including: change in orientation of pages, omission of page numbers, corruption of tables...
This happens when printing to PDF, saving as PDF, trying to convert to PDF outside WORD or using an online system... When using another converter (the one that comes with my Windows System), the file is still corrupt, just slightly less so.
I think it must be a problem with the file as it doesn't happen when I try to convert other documents - but how to identify and eliminate that problem in the file? I tried to copy over to a different document, but that did not work either.
One strange thing is also that once I ask WORD to print to PDF, it actually also changes the WORD file, with changing the orientation of the first pages etc. and the numbering of tables and figures.
Urgent help required, as this is actually a scientific paper I need to resubmit today!!
    Many thanks!

This sounds like a Word issue - simply formatting for printing is doing bad things to your file. Is it possible this is just the normal reflow Word does, and you are not set up to expect it? Expect line breaks to change, and hence text to move between pages.
You may need to select the Adobe PDF printer as your default and "fix" the word document.
The page numbers - are they automatic or typed manually?

  • Random PDF corruption in received emails

    I am running a setup with 1 Ipad original 64gb, 3G IOS 5.1.1 and 9 Ipad 2's 64gb, 3G IOS 5.1.1
When we issue an email to these devices from Outlook 2010 running on Windows XP / 7 machines containing more than 1 PDF document in the attachments the odds are great that the 2nd attached PDF will be corrupt on at least one of these devices if not more.  This has been ongoing for some time.  I will detail the latest incident for you all to ponder...
An email with 5 attached PDF's was generated on our Windows machines using Adobe Acrobat X Pro to create the PDF's.  This email was then sent out to the mail accounts of the Ipad's hosted on MS Exchange Server 2003.  The Ipads connect to this server via simple SMTP to download the messages.  I am the holder of the Ipad 1 and I could open all but the last two attachments in quick view on the Ipad which told me they were corrupt.  Adobe Reader on my Ipad also would not open the last two attachments.  Neither would PDF Expert.
On the Ipad2's some could open all the attachments, some could not open the same two that I could not open, on others it was only 1 attachment that could not be read but also was not one of the two that I could not read.  Broadcasting the message again using the same recipients and the same message that had already been sent but forwarding it this time, results in me on my Ipad1 being able to read all the attachments.  Some recipients on the Ipad2's could also now open all of the attachments, some could not open any, and still others could now open the ones they could not before, but now the ones they could open in the original broadcast they cannot open in the second which was simply a forward of the original sent message.
If I check my email on my Windows 7 pc using Outlook 2010 I can open and read all the attachments, I also open the same messages from the same account as received on my Macbook Pro using Outlook 2011 for Mac and I can open all attachments just fine.
So....to my logic the problem is not with the mail as it leaves the Exchange server as my Windows pc and my Macbook are getting the same messages from the same mailboxes with the same attachments and all is well.  The problem must be in the Ipad(s) as they receive the message and it is randomly corrupting the attached PDF's.
Is anyone else having this issue?  If so, how have you resolved it?  I have seen many threads on different user sites across the internet outlining this problem with PDF's on the Ipad going back to 2010 with no clear comment from Apple or a resolution.  I'm just hoping I've missed something and someone here can help.
    Thanks.

The problem is likely with the source, not the destination.  If you're not seeing signatures on emails from other people, then they are probably not adding a signature.
If you're seeing a 'distorted' signature with email attachments for the graphics, then either organization may have a policy which prevents HTML emails.  If an email is forced to plain text, it will alter the view that you are seeing.

  • CoreData.pdf - corrupt PDF on Apple's site?

I'm attempting to download the PDF version of Apple's Core Data programming guide at the following URL:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/CoreDat a/CoreData.pdf
It appears that this PDF file is either truncated or corrupt. Neither Preview or Adobe Reader can open it.The md5sum of the file I have is 28d7d75c587ad4745cefd50a260b1aec
Does anyone know where I can find a working copy of this file?

You should file a bug report on this. The PDF even seems to be corrupted in the offline documentation.
You can always use the HTML version.

  • Question on IPreview PDF corruption?

My iPreview reader is reading a pdf document's highlights and notes in the  left column (when i select it) very oddly, it has a little symbol of an alien head in place of each space that I have selected in the text. This is a very large text and I am half way through with it-can you please help so I don't loose all my information? Thank you!

What is iPreview. It doesn't even show up in a Google search?
If you're sharing PDF files which have annotations with a third party PDF reader, that's very chancey, and there are no guarantees that the annotations won't be corrupted. It happens with Apple Preview, for example.

  • Error converting DOC to PDF, corrupt table

    Hello,
Using XP, MS Word 2003, Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro.
Trying to convert a 15MB doc to pdf.  After 14 minutes, I get a MS Word error, "This error message may be the result of a corrupt table in the current document. You can recover the contents..."  The steps for recovery involves "open & repair", which is an option that I can't find (maybe MS Word 2007?)
If I take the original doc & compress the photos to reduce the file size to about 11MB, then the PDF is ok.  I can also split up the doc into two documents.  Each part converts ok, then I can combine them.  Both options works, but both are time consuming.  (So I'm not buying the "corrupt table" error.)
I have other doc's that convert ok.  One is 29MB and converts in 2 minutes.  The difference that I can note is that the 15MB doc uses primary nothing but text boxes for the entire doc.  Text & photos are inserted into each text box.  A dozen of these are smaller than 11MB & will convert, but very slowly.  Over that size & I get the above error.
I can't change Word Doc format. (customer's requirements)
Any help or suggestions are appreciated!
    Thanks
    Mike

There has been a change with AA9 that does the create PDF option a bit differently than before. I am not sure of the details, but if you are assuming the same process as I will describe you will at least have an idea of what is happening. In prior versions of Acrobat, there are basically 2 conversion processes. The right click in explorer to convert and opening the file in Acrobat both go back to the create PDF process in WORD, so let me just describe the WORD process. When you print to the Adobe PDF printer, then you are simply doing a conversion (or print) just like you would to paper. Excluding the printer metric issues with WORD (2007 turns these off by default), you should get a replica of the WORD file in appearance. Choices include down sampling the graphics and embedding the fonts, both of which are recommended. These are part of the printer properties.
The end result of the print is effectively an electronic paper version of your original file. It is not recommended for editing (except for form fields and such), in just the same way it is preferred to not use whiteout on a typed paper version. The process of creating this print file is a two step process where a PS file is created (can be very memory intensive) and then the PS file is put through Distiller in the background to create the PDF (these require AcroTray to be active to do this automatically).
PDF Maker (create PDF) adds several features to the file, but it is only available in selected applications like MS OFFICE. These features are added by including PDF Marks in the PS file created in the print process. You can include bookmarks, links, and tags for accessibility (tags tend to really bloat the file big time). The items to be included are in the preferences of PDF Maker in the application. It is also a good idea to use the Standard job settings as a minimum, but I typically recommend print or press options. I use a job settings file provided by a publisher that is optimize for journal publication.
The fact that PDF Maker adds all the extra bits is likely why you are having problems. You can try turning all the added features off and then go back and add only the ones you need. That may help your situation. Keep in mind that graphics will be expanded (are not compressed) when sent to the PS file -- causing a huge file in some cases. The temporary storage is limited by your TEMP folder and not by the size of your hard disk and that is the route of the problem for large files.
As I said, PDF Maker has apparently changed a bit for AA9, but the idea is likely similar.

  • Some email receipients can't open pdf - corrupted file message

I have sent an email with a pdf attachment created in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro to a list of contacts. Most of the contacts are able to open the file with no problems. However, a small percentage are unable to open it, most stating that they are getting a message that the file is corrupted. It clearly isn't as when emailed back to me I can open it no problems.
Any ideas how I or they can resolve this issue.

The most likely suspect is that their email provider is using encoding to make the transfer of files faster. This is widely known to corrupt PDF's. To test either post the PDF file online and send them a link or Zip the PDF first then email it. If that works then you've found the problem.
As for why, when returned to you, they work. I can't say. Are they actually saving the file to their computer, attempting to open it and when it doesn't open, they are attaching THAT file to a new email to you or are they doing something else?
At any rate, try one of the suggestions above to see if that clears it up.

  • TRANSMIT uploaded pdf corrupt after upload (and download)

i have created a pdf which i uploaded to my website using TRANSMIT and when i download normally, i get the attached error.
this is a file that I created and i think the corruption is due to an upload issue with transmit that they were kind enough to tell me at one point could be fixed by chaning a setting i cannot find ATM.
transmit and transmit support are fantastic but does anyone know where this setting might be while i wait for them to answer? for some reason i cannot find it and it must have been reset when i did a fresh install.
    THANKS

that safari (6.0.1) error is /HORRENDOUS/.
this is a no file found error in mozilla and it is because i uploaded to the wrong folder
someone should fix this because it is the second time in about 6 months that i have had the need to fix it and it is only this second time that i figured out what the problem is.
"not supported" or "damaged" is not a helpful prompt in this case and at the very least there should be a location error or a file not found added...

  • PDF Corrupt file after being using in sql 2008

I have SQL 2008 database a database with PDFs stored on it. The app reads the PDF from the database and stores it on the machine as a temp file, then launches Acrobat Reader.
At that point, I receive a message that the file format is invalid. I receive the same message when I have the app save the file as .pdf. I'm reading the PDF from the database using the Filestream object.
Is there a way to prevent this?

  • Adobe Reader PDF Corrupted,  What is the # for tech support?

I am not getting the answers to my needs. I need to speak with Adobe Reader.  Most of my PDF are coruppted.? I need to speak with a representative and get this fixed?  What Adobe PDF Repair product will fix this?  and Version 10.1.8  and MAC computer. I need more straight answers. Not vague answers please.

No I am not being vague,  I am not getting the answers to get help on my problems.
Yes I am using Adobe Reader.  That is the files to open. It will not open files.
    I am using "
    http://www.verypdf.com/app/pdf-repair-mac/index.html
    It says
    System requirement
    Mac OS X v 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, etc.
Apparently  it will not support 10.1.8?   I have used other PDF for MAC but that is up to 10.1.7.
I am asking for more info and more help on my problem.  The Adobe website does not clearly offer a phone number to offer people to call in.  I need that option.  I am Deaf.
I am not trying to be rude but I am frustrated. I spend alot of my time looking for one.  Lost all of my files worth over 2 years.  I need to understand how did it get corrupted the first place?  And how to prevent from next time.
I would appreciate more detail info on this.
    Thank you!

  • A PDF document with links to other PDFs corrupts the URL and get 404. Works in IE.

One of our supplier sites has manuals online that are PDF docs with links from one to another. For example, when I click on "Tanaka" I get a PDF menu of Tanaka service manuals, etc. When I click on a section, such as "Chainsaw" I get a 404. Part of the directory structure in the URL is missing. For example when in the Tanaka PDF menu I click on Chainsaw I go to http://www.parklands.net/Resources/Tana%20CSaw%20Menu.pdf which is wrong. It should be http://www.parklands.net/Resources/Tanaka/Tana%20CSaw%20Menu.pdf, and in IE it is.
== URL of affected sites ==
    http://

The linked documents will not be automatically converted to PDFs and merged
with your file, neither in Acrobat Standard nor in Acrobat Pro. You can do
it, but you'll need to do it manually by converting all the files to PDFs,
merging them and then adding the links between them.

  • PDF corrupted - can't open in acrobat on

    I have Pages '09 - 4.0.5 running on OSX 10.6.7
Suddenly today it won't export any PDFs that acrobat can read. It can open in Preview OK but not acrobat. It is only Pages causing this problem. Other applications such as numbers or Mail can create PDFs no problem.
I have an identical set up of OSX and Pages on another machine with no problem.
Any idea how I can fix this?
    Thanks!

See the other posts on this.
A bug has been introduced in OSX 10.6.7 affecting Postscript and PostScript OTF fonts.
    TrueType fonts are still OK.

  • PDF corrupt when emailed - sometimes

My office is using CS5.5/Adobe X, running both OS Leopard and Snow Leopard (depending on machine). We create our PDFs typically from within InDesign. We have been having a periodic problem when emailing these PDFs. Joe will email a PDF to Mary, Sue and John (the client). Mary and John get this error: "There was an error opening this document. There was a problem reading this document (14)." Sue can read it fine. If I email the same PDF, the recipient can also read it. If we open the original PDF from our server, we can open it; if we zip it and email it to the same recipients who had the error, they can open it; if we upload it to our FTP, it can be downloaded and viewed.
Any ideas on how to snoop out this problem and fix it? Is this an Acrobat issue? I can't imagine it's an email client issue because our clients aren't running Outlook 2011 for Mac (what our office uses) - they are all on PCs.

    Totally agree with zipping PDFs.
Over the years many of my clients in the graphics business have seen this problem from time to time. The internet will chew up things ocasionally, and the weird and flaky mail servers of many kinds and many different e-mail clients in use can compound the problem.
In every case . . . zipped PDF = 100% success where there have previously been problems!
