Pdf crashes rMBP running mountain lion

I have a pdf file that crashes multiple apps in when I try to open it on my rMBP running 10.8.  The programs it has taken down so far are Safari, Papers, Preview and Pathfinder (quicklook).  They crash immediately when trying to open the file, and do so whether I am using the integrated or external graphics card.  This file is from a scientific journal, and I have redownled it several times with the same result.  It opens without a problem in Acrobat Pro 8.3.1 on the same machine.  It also opens without a problem on my early 2009 iMac with an NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card running 10.7.4.  There is nothing obviously special about this file, and I have had it on my computer for several years with no issues.
Suggestions?
Thanks.

Sounds like you found a bug.

  • Xemacs fonts issue on RMBP running Mountain Lion

I am running Xemacs (not Aquamacs) on my RMBP Mountain Lion, and there are only a few fonts available, none that I like. Does anyone know how to add new fonts? The installed set are not very good, and do not contain the same as other OS.
I do not mean select a new font, I mean add new fonts to the library for Xemacs access in selection menu.
    Thank you!

Seems Apple would rather have totally stoopid buyers with fat wallets, rather  than discerning users that can reason with the technology. Well hidden in Apple Support Communities > Mac OS & System Software > Mac OS X Technologies, there is a minuscule Unix sub-sub-section, currently with 7,194 threads. Decidedly not the happiest or most abundant of the communities indeed.
BTW, are you planning on registering for your $100 Developer subscription? Or just signing up for free access to Developer downloads?

  • What is causing my Mac Mini to crash while running Mountain Lion?

    Hello!
I have an Early 2009 Mac Mini that I had 10.7 installed on for quite some time. Everything worked really well, and I was very pleased with it. I upgraded my Macbook Air to 10.8, and have been very pleased with it as well. Not the case though, with the Mac Mini, since upgrading it to 10.8.
Currently it's running on 10.8.1 (12B19), and it is crashing all the time. Programs of all kinds (iTunes, Skype, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc...) will just randomly vanish off the screen, and are followed by a "________ quit unexpectedly" window, to report the problem. In each and every case (usually +5 times a day) I report all of the crashes.
Several times as well, I have also had the entire computer crash and reboot itself. That is perhaps the most frustrating of all. Most times the screen will turn black, it will make it's "ding" sound, and then begin restarting itself. Sometimes the screen will freeze and the spinning loading icon will appear on the screen for 10-15 seconds, and then it will black-out and reboot itself.
I've tried to deal with it for a while now, but I'm getting a little impatient at it and I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. I have TONS of error report logs, so if you'd like to see one, I'll be glad to post it.
    Thanks in advance!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • I would like to import the .abcdp files from my old, restored HD (was running mountain lion when the mac crashed) to the addressbook of my new mac (10.9.5)

I would like to import the .abcdp files from my old, restored HD (was running mountain lion when the mac crashed) to the addressbook of my new mac (10.9.5).
    Please advise.

I don't have access to one.
I don't understand why the new address book is not backwards compatible with the data from former OS X versions.
In 10.8. preview was still able to read the files although it was already impossible to import them into the address book. But Why?

  • My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes when installing updates or new software.

My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes and re-boots when installing updates or new software. I can only perform these operations while in the safe boot mode.  I have reloaded OSX twice. Does not solve the problem.  The machine is brand new. It replaced a previous MacPro that would not support the new Mountain Lion.  When my new machine came in.  I swaped the dirve out of my old unit into the new and ran the new Lion update.  The machine has had this aforementioned problem since that time.  Also, I had the Legacy version of File Vault running on the old machine/drive, which I also turned off(thinking that was the problem)  but that did not fix the problem either.

Mid-2010 15" MacBook Pros - the bad NVIDIA GPU
If you're having frequent kernel panics with your 15" mid-2010, or intermittent screen problems, the problem is, more than likely, the faulty NVIDIA GPU found in a number of those machines.
Here's just a sample of a kernel panic log that points to the faulty NVIDIA card:
Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
             com.apple.GeForce(6.4.0)@0x82ac4000->0x82b7afff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
             com.apple.nvidia.nv50hal(6.4.0)@0x83c05000->0x84019fff
                dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000
             com.apple.NVDAResman(6.4.0)@0x834a0000->0x8378dfff
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6.5)@0x7a802000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2.1)@0x82fd3000
                dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2.1)@0x8301b000
Here's the "official" Apple take on the issue - but the very real kernel panics need not be preceded by 'Intermittent black screen or loss of video'... in fact, you might not experience any video problems at all. Although video problems can certainly be a portent of things to come…
So what can you do? Print out a copy of your kernel panic and a copy of the Knowledge Base article and take them, along with your machine, to your local Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. They should be more than willing to install a new logic board at no cost. I have no idea why this faulty GPU is making the headline here on the MacBook Pro forum so often now - could it be because Mountain Lion is just bringing the issue to a head more readily? I don't know - I only know that we're seeing more and more of these kernel panics of late.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard to new iMac running Mountain Lion

Mail "unexpectedly quits" after migration from snow leopard time machine files to new iMac running Mountain Lion.  I can run connection doctor OK.  But the activity window is blank.   If you try to open message viewer window then mail program crashes.  Would really like to get my old emails back as the old imac is totally dead.  Thanks for any help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Is anyone experiencing problems with opening mission control from the desktop.  Running mountain lion with parallels 7 and windows 7

is anyone experiencing problems with opening mission control from the desktop.  Running mountain lion with parallels 7 and windows 7

I had been having a similar problem on Lion with Safari pdf files despite downloading the latest Adobe Reader XI.
I would constantly get the same messages - There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired. And I would get a blank page when I tried to print the pdf if I tried printing from the Safari web page using File - Print from the top toolbar on my laptop.
Then I came across the grey Safari lozenge with action icons.
This allowed me, without downloading the pdf, to print the pdf file direct from the Safari page by using the Print icon on the grey lozenge that appears centrally three quarters down the screen.
Then I discovered that if I save the pdf using the Save icon from this same grey lozenge on the Safari page I can open and print this pdf version from my desktop.
I've tested it with a couple of different pdf files and these methods work using the grey lozenge icons but the same pdfs files don't work using File - Save As on the Tool Bar.

  • Running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?

I am running mountain lion os 10.8.5 on mac book pro mid 2012 build.  If I upgrade to Mavericks will MS Office programs still work?  There does not appear to be an updated version of MS Office for Mac past 2011 that I bought last year and am using now.  Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.

Office 2008 and 2011 will run on Mavericks, but you may not be able to get the installer for it at this time.

  • How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?

How to connect my perfectly-working 20-year-old Apple Personal Laserwriter 320 to my iMac running Mountain Lion?
              Thank you, Morty S.

I have a perfectly-working LW 4/600 with exactly the same issue. They use localtalk - a long obsolete network connection, that doesn't connect to modern networks, and appletalk as the comm protocol.
I think the only choice you have is to use an old powerPC Mac as print server. You tell me which old Mac you have, with a localtalk connector, or that runs OS X 10.4 or earlier (so it speaks appletalk), and I'll tell you how I've done it for the past 11 years or so.
Right now I use a G4 running 10.4.11, plus an etherMac ethernet to localtalk adapter.
Before, I used a PMac 6100 running LPD server software.

  • I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

  • I have an Air running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera, but have never downloaded any images from the camera to this Air. If I connect the camera to the Air, what might I expect? Will connecting the camera to the Air by a cable

I have an 11" Air with lots of remaining capacity running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera. I have never downloaded images from the camera to this Air. However, if I just connect the camera to the Air's USB port, with the camera's available cable, and the Air is open, will a program like ImageCapture or iPhoto, auomatically come up, and I can begin to download wanted images? Or, will this sort of connection delete or fry everything on the Air? Do I need any other software on board? Will current Apple onboard programs allow me to download images from my camera and not destroy everything else?

    Answered. Thanks.

  • Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX and Windows 7.  I need it for my MacBook Pro 13", 2012, running Mountain Lion

Can anyone recommend a portable USB 3.0 drive with hardware encryption, compatible with OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 7.  I need it for my MacBook Pro 13”, 2012, running Mountain Lion & Windows 7 Ultimate - BootCamp.  I’ve heard that the Buffalo MiniStation Encryption does not work with OSX, is that true..?  I'd like it to work with both operating systems, using the built in hardware encryption.  Thanks
