PDF created from InDesign not viewing correctly in Firefox

I have exported PDF files to be uploaded to Firefox. When they are uploaded all drop shadows etc. turn blocky. Some fonts do not appear correctly. It is not always the same font and it will just be one line out of a paragraph. It appears to be that Firefox is not handling "over print" correctly. It views perfectly fine in Safari, Chrome, and IE. We have all tried viewing these pages in Firefox and some of us can view them fine, even those of us that are using the same version and operating system etc., one persons will view fine and the others not.

Hello lolapop21,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. I'm sorry you're having issues viewing PDFs in Firefox. Are you using the Firefox's PDF viewer or do your PDFs open in Adobe Acrobat or another PDF viewer?
Cheers,
Patrick

  • Why do colours change in PDF created from InDesign book?

    Please help.
I've created a Book from 5 InDesign documents that have images text and some Illustrator drawings in.
When I export the Book to PDF some of the colours in the Illustrator graphics are different (the graphics are all vector based maps with some text). Not all colours are changing, seems to be different blues showing as one green in the PDF.
Same thing happens when I print the Book from InDesign.
Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Help!  I too am having problems when creating a pdf in InDesign.  My colors are all Pantone process colors.  My specific problem is that when I export my book cover to a PDF, my process black is changing to gray.  This ONLY happens with pdfs.  When I save as a jpg things are fine.  It will print fine.  I have been scaling it down, but i prints black.  Help!  This is a project due for a typography class on Monday and must be printed and mounted for class.

  • Printing .pdfs created from InDesign CS6

Hi, I am in charge of creating and distributing my company's interoffice quarterly newsletter. Currently, I am designing the newsletter in InDesign as an 8-page document and am importing our corporate mailing list along with the Data Merge function to personalize the cover of each copy of the newsletter.  When I go the export the document, I only know how to either create a large .pdf containing the 8-page newsletter multipled by the 241 employees equalling approximately 2,000 pages, and I know how to export each individual newsletter into it's own .pdf for a total of 241 documents that need to be indidvually printed.  My question is: how can I streamline this process so I don't have to sit in front of my computer and print out 241 individual .pdfs or change the print range from pages 1-8, 9-16,17-24, etc. for all 241 newsletters? I am interested in creating a process that will print out 241 individual newsletters each with the cover page set to include the name, title and department of each employee.  Thank you

I'm not sure why, but my original post came through blank. Here is a
    second attempt:
    > Often, the pages that will not print, when viewed at a normal
    magnification, appear as very
    > small thumbnails that look like the dotted line down a black highway.
    The rest of the pages
    > are at a normal magnification and can be read.
I almost didn't reply to your post because I'm not sure that I am making
anything but a wild guess. But I seem to recall many years ago that
there were some reports on the frameusers.com listserv of some PDF pages
showing up as tiny pages-- similar to what you describe. I'm not sure if
I can trust my recollection, but I THINK the fix was to go into the PDF
printer properties, and reduce the dpi setting from 1200 to 600 or even
    300. I don't remember the exact reason, but I think it had something to
do with a problem in the way Windows GDI interacts with documents
containing large-size type (such as 72-point glyphs). Anyway, I may be
remembering it wrong, or may be off on the wrong track altogether, but
it won't hurt to make the change and try. You can always change the
    setting back.
And if it doesn't work, consider posting your operating system, Acrobat
version number, and whether or not FrameMaker 9 is fully patched. It
might help someone else chime in with help.

  • Skin control in swf file created from indesign not showing online

    Hi,
I used indesign cs5.5 interactive to create a swf file with embeded video and skin control.  When I view the video on my pc the video and skin control works but when I uploaded both the swf file and the skin control file  online to my client's server the skin control doesn't show. I suspect it has something to do with the path, is there somewhere I can specify the path to where the skin control is loaded online?
    Thanks.

Which file - the .swf or the .exe file?
If the .swf, you need to create a file association to the projector.

  • PDF created with Onenote not viewing properly with reader XI

A PDF was created by Onenote export to PDF. The screen clippings are gray boxes. When viewed with the preinstalled (MS ?) reader app it views normal. I am using Adobe Reader XI, Windows 8.1, Onenote 2013.

Well, since I fixed it in Chrome, it works for me.  However, my partner beside me doesn't have Chrome and he gets the same generic screenshot that I had earlier, even though we made the changes in his Firefox.  We're baffled...... The interactive form is the only form we can't pull.

You've forgotten to put the hash marks in front of all your
    colours
throughout your code. Thus background-color: FFFFFF; should
    be
    background-color: #FFFFFF; and so on.

  • Previews error in Bridge on PDFs exported from InDesign

When I export a PDF from InDesign CS5 and look at the file preview in Bridge it always reveals the two first pages of the PDF only.
It doesn't matter how many pages the PDF really has, it always just shows 2 in the preview in Bridge. While this may sound as a problem connected to Bridge, I think it is connected to the export process in InDesign. PDFs with several pages generated with other applications are displayed with their correct page numbers in the preview in Bridge.
I've had this problem since I first installed CS5 on my Macs.
If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful!
    Regards,
    Eivind

It happens to ALL my PDFs created from InDesign, and on both my Macs. I've also seen other Macs that have the same problem.
If, however, I do change the number of preview pages displayed on the INDD file, this actually carries across to the PDFs that I export too.
Another weird consequence is that if I open one of those PDFs in PS and save a page as a JPG, that JPG's preview in Bridge is also shown as if it consisted of 2 pages.
I have upgraded my OS several times (it's now the newest OS X version available), and it hasn't helped. I have also cleared out everything Adobe on my Mac, preferences and all, and re-installed it – it didn't help.
Adobe support acknowleged that it was a bug, but couldn't reproduce it so they couldn't help. Updates to CS5 has not fixed it.
I was sort of hoping someone else here had encountered the same problem and figured out a fix, or that they could tell me if it was fixed in CS5.5.
I thought maybe it was connected to the language settings in my OS since I've seen it on several Macs set to Norwegian, but the guy on Adobe support had a set up with Norwegian language, and apparently he didn't have same problem.

  • PDF Bookmarks - Change Default Width When Creating PDF File from InDesign

When creating a PDF file (from Indesign CS4) I automatically create the PDF bookmarks based on the InDesign document's Table of Contents.
But by default the width in the bookmarks is always set at "Fit Page".
Is there a way to change the default to "Fit Width" in Indesign before the PDF is created?
It's too much trouble to change every bookmark in the PDF after it's created.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Thanks, Steve. I have actually previously done what "fogharty" suggests and it does work if I want to set the pages to "fit width" or a variety of other options. However, none of the options is inherit zoom which is what I, and many other from the sound of the thread, need and want. We want to respect our end users--not dictate how they must view our PDFs. Hopefully, Adobe will listen and make this option available soon.

  • PDF creation from ID - not outlining fonts correctly

Hi all. I have a query regarding PDF creation from InDesign (so this could have been in the Acrobat section instead but went for this one).
I work for a publisher using CS2+3 on PCs. We don't have one out of house printer as a rule but several. All have different requirements.
Essentially we are converting fonts to curves from within InDesign when creating the PDFs. Therefore we have multiple files (curved and text) which is adding lots of time onto projects and adding a further margin for error with missing or out of date files. It seems this process is necessary as whenever I select the option to outline the fonts when creating the PDFs, the printers usually get in touch asking for the font, even though it has been outlined.
I am hoping to find any simple solution, hopefully avoiding purchasing extra software, that avoids creating duplicate 'curved' files. I realise it's a big topic and not restricted to InDesign but this is the main software we are using so figured this was the place for it. Many thanks.

I'll let others question the necessity of outlining text. It has been discussed many, many times before, and the only valid reasons I found so far are producing files for hopelessly outdated printers (the usual recommendation is "find another one, fast!") and for legacy custom hardware such as cutters and engravers.
But this is really a mystery to me:
It seems this process is necessary as whenever I select the option to outline the fonts when creating the PDFs, the printers usually get in touch asking for the font, even though it has been outlined.
Tr this: outline all text in your ID document. Export as PDF. Check under Document Properties, Fonts. How many fonts do you see? If everything is outlined, there shouldn't be any.
How does the printer know what fonts to ask for, and what is he ever gonna do with these fonts?

  • Creating TOC Bookmarks in a PDF created from Microsoft Word

Does anyone know how to modify PDF creation settings so that bookmarks are automatically set from the Table of Contents in the PDF version of a Microsoft Word document? This is possible in Windows using word and Acrobat Pro. But it's not automatic in the OSX-resident PDF creator and I can't find any way to modify preferences. I'm using Word 2004 (11.3.5) for Mac. Thanks!
    iMac 21" Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

  • How can I maintain multiple white spaces in a PDF written from InDesign?

I need to have 2 white spaces maintained (within a part #) in the PDF I write, but when I open in Acrobat it converts it to one space.
I've tried word spaces, set spaces and applying "no color" to a placeholder character and nothing is working!
    Any ideas or suggestions?

I am talking about normal white space. Multiple fixed widt spaces are not a problem. How the space is handled in a PDF depends on how it is created.

It may not be a great idea to use multiple spaces, but it certainly is not prohibited and sometimes is necessary -- you might want a 2em space, or a thin space before and after a tab you underline in a form.
I'm able to select the multiple spaces just fine in Acrobat 9 using the text touch-up tool.

  • Two page display of pdf created in InDesign CS4 js

Hi, I need to set page desplay for pdf created in InDesign to two page view and I couldn't find anything like that in OMV. I assume it will be setting preferances for Matadata. Would you be able to help me.
    Thank you.
    Yulia

    @Yulia:
You can set all "open"-options with Acrobat Pro and you can automate this with a batch process under "Advanced => Document Processing => Batch Processing".
Also there is a way to do that through pdfmark instructions inside a placed EPS. Documentation for doing a "Two-Up (Cover page)" with pdfmarks is not available in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf for the PageLayout-tag. And of course you have to use Distiller to get the pdfmarks working, no chance doing that trick with PDF export.
Here is the pdfmark-code for an EPS you can work with (found and adapted it from the "PostScript & PDF-Bible" by Thomas Merz and Olaf Drümmer):
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
    %%BoundingBox: 0 0 72 72
    %%EndProlog
    /pdfmark where {pop} {userdict /pdfmark /cleartomark load put} ifelse
    [ {ThisPage} << /Trans << /S /Dissolve >> >> /PUT pdfmark
    [ {Catalog} << /PageLayout /TwoColumnRight >> /PUT pdfmark
    %%EOF
Save the code as a plain text file with the ".eps" suffix. Place it on any page you want to print of your InDesign layout, write a PostScript file and distill it to pdf. You should get a "Two-Up" view when opening it in Acrobat.
Meanwhile (after doing a little research on the web) it seams that all possible "/PageLayout" parameter pairs are indeed documented, but not in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf, but in the PDF32000_2008.pdf on page 73:
SinglePage     Display one page at a time
OneColumn     Display the pages in one column
TwoColumnLeft     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoColumnRight     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the right
TwoPageLeft     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoPageRight     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the right
    Default value: SinglePage.

  • The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC

The thumbnails/previews of PDFs created in InDesign CC look dull or cloudy in Bridge CC. The actual files are fine and open with the correct rich colors, but the colors don't look as vibrant as they should when viewing in Bridge. It's only PDFs that are affected. The InDesign thumbnails/previews display correctly in Bridge.
This was not happening when I was using CS6. This is only a problem since the upgrade to CC.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you're going to mess with the registry
    - create a restore point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ie/windows7/create-a-restore-point
    - backup the registry http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/back-up-registry
I absolutely plead with all my heart - don't start changing registry entries unless you know what you're doing - or ask your IT department to take a look.
If you don't have an IT department, then source a good professional that can make these changes.
If any way unsure - then under any circumstances, - do not mess with the registry.

  • PDFs exported from InDesign cannot be printed

Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document or add just text from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd.
**I also posted this in the InDesign thread but was asked to post it here too. I tried printing the document using Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader with no luck. We tried printing directly from InDesign but it is inconsistent, sometimes it will print but most of the time it does not.

Hmm. Yeah. The ID forum may be more help. Especially if it's also a problem in ID.
My first suspect would be corrupt fonts or possibly an image file. Can you create a blank ID file with no text (maybe insert just an image or something that isn't on any of the other ID files) pdf it and print it?
