PDF dimensions metadata still hopeless in CS6

This has been a particular bugbear of mine and it seems CS6 is no better.
The Dimensions attribute on the Metadata panel gives you nothing useful when you're looking at PDFs. It WILL show some dimensions but I'm picking what it is showing is the JPEG preview dimensions, not the actual PDFs print dimensions. What use is that?
Would it be too hard to put in useful print dimensions, eg. the dimensions of the Cropbox, and especially the Trimbox (as in the Set Page Boxes panel in Acrobat X Pro), so that the Bridge metadata actually gives you USEFUL information?
Why should I have to open a PDF to find out its actual print dimensions, when there is a Dimensions attribute in Bridge? I should be able to click on a thumbnail and Bridge will tell me whether it's A4 or A1, etc.
Cheers
Luke

  • PDFs created in InDD CS5 and CS6 crash when searching?

    When I try to search PDFs made from InDD CS5 or CS6 (full install, not cloud) on my Macs at work and at home, the application freezes (Force Quit shows "not responding).
    This happens especially with large books, but also with smaller stuff.
    I am on Snow Leopard on both machines and have been having this problem for over a year.
    Originally I thought is was because some documents were created way back in CS2 and kept being upstepped as I upgraded versions.
    Now I am beyond those old pubs, and the problem still exists.
    I thought upgrading to CS6 would help, but it hasn't.
    Sometimes I can search and get the first one or two instances of a word, but it still freezes.
    It even happens with factory PDF settings such as "PRESS."
    And yes, I have emptied the PDF cache.
    I can't figure out if this is an InDD problem or Acrobat X.
    There doesn't seem to be anything on the forums that I can find, either.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Seems more likelyt o be Acrobat than ID, in my opinion, since that's the application doing the searching.
    Have youy posted in the Acrobat forum?

  • Why is My MetaData Window of Bridge CS6 Displaying Incorrect File info?

    The File Properties tab in the MetaData Window of Bridge CS6 is saying that my file is 72 ppi but when I open my file in PS it is actually 300 ppi 15x10 inches. See screen grab below. I understand that 72 ppi at 125" x 41.7" is the same as a 300 ppi file that is 30" x 10" or 9000 x 3000 pixels dimensions. But why is bridge making this conversion and displaying the file resolution as being 72 ppi when the file is 300 ppi? Is there a preference setting somewhere that I need to change?
    When I look at these same files from another networked machine using Bridge CS6 the Metadata window is showing the files as being 300 ppi? Is there a setting inside Bridge somewhere that is making it show all files in the Metadata window as being based upon a 72 ppi resolution?

    I believe I should have said Yosemite/Column view.
    Has the issue appeared after an upgrade to Yosemite?

    In MAC, I want to change document size from 8.5X11 to 18X24 to create a poster to print through Staples. I created the doc originally in WORD, changed the size in WORD, converted to PDF doc. But PDF doc is still in 8.5X11. Read ADOBE support help info. Terls me to change size in application rather than printer. BUT ACROBAT Pro does not give me a page set up option in FILE. I can only find one in the printer dialog box. Help!

    from the FAQs on Staples website:
    I have a file that I know is a PDF, but the website claims it is not in a PDF format. What should I do?
    Check to see that the file has the .PDF extension. Also, check that the filename does not have any special characters such as an ampersand (“&”).
    Regarding your measurements set to centimeters rather than inches; is it just in MS Word?
    Or does it occur in all other applications.
    Check your Work preferences first:
    If it is happening in all your applications, check your Mac OS System Preferences.

  • PDF file metadata into Sharepoint List while uploading

    Hi,
    I have a .pdf file. It has values for title and comments in the file properties. Iam uploading it to a Sharepoint List/Library. In the metadata of List/Library  the values(Title and Comments) are not getting populated. But then for other type of files like .doc,.ppt etc its working fine.
    I wrote an Event Listener also while uploading the document, to set it thru code. But then in the
    event receiver properties im not able to find the values for Title. Im using like this...
    properties.AfterProperties["vti_Title"].DefaultValue
    I tried googling and finally posted..
    Any help please...

    Hi,
    Nice to see your response. Im doing the same way to update the list item field values. Its also working fine. But then the only exception case is when i upload a .pdf document.
    For these kind of documents(.pdf) the metadata field values like Title,Comments etc are empty. Even though the original file has values for title,Comments,Keywords etc..
    My case is only with the documents other than the office suite.
    If you provide me the extraction of metadata for a .pdf file in my listener, then its easy to bind to a field value.
    Thanks.

  • Is there a way to easily batch convert hundreds of video files to h.264, while retaining the original dimensions, metadata, etc.?

    I am organizing my library of stock video footage so is easily view (show to clients) and access. I need advice for two things:
    First: What is a good program to catalog footage in? I am considering using iTunes because I already have it and I could setup smart folders to easily organize footage.
    Second: I would like to encode all the footage to h.264 so I can preview it in Quicktime and add it to an iTunes library. My problem is all the footage is in a wide variety of dimensions, formats, framerates, strange codecs etc. I have access to Adobe Media Encoder and Apple Compressor. Is there a way to easily batch convert hundreds of video files to h.264, while retaining the original dimensions, metadata, etc.?
    I have tried using a watch folder in AME but it freezes every time I add the folder...
    Thanks for any help!

    Did you move the entire iTunes folder the hold Option, select Choose library and select the iTunes folder you moved?

    Not sure if it's valid to have a dimension with 1 hierarchy and 1 level in that hierarchy. The hierarchy may have to have at least 2 levels. If you want the configuration of a dimension with 1 hierarchy and 1 level, CWM2 may want you to omit the hierarchy, thus creating the dimension with only 1 level.

  • Looking for a .pdf organizer/metadata editor

    Hi,
    I have a bunch of .pdf files of research papers that I would like to organized and publish to the web. I would like to be able to quickly preview the .pdf, rename, modify basic metadata like title, author, keywords and subject, and then upload to the web where the directory can be viewed or searched based on the metadata. What would you advise?
    I am testing "A-PDF preview and rename" and I like the tool so far except I would like to be able to copy and past text out of the previewed document to be used in metadata fields.
    I currently use CS4 with acrobat 9 pro.
    Thanks,
    bob

    I found a better, partial solution, in case anyone is interested. Cost 60 bucks but does most of what I want it to do "PDF Explorer 1.5". No frills database for .pdf files that allows copy and past into metadata fields. Still nothing on sharing the database via the net or summarizing metadata as a web gallery. Maybe bridge can do this? or Photoshop? Would be cool to be able to create a photoshop image gallery that uses the .pdf cover page as the image and includes the display of chosen metadata... I will keep plugging but am still interested in anyone's ideas on this.

  • Problem with PDF/X-1a export in illustrator CS6

    I have these huge illustrator files containing a mix of text, vector shapes and placed bitmap pictures cropped using clipping masks.
    When I used to save as a PDF/X-1a:2001 in Illustrator CS3, the clipping masks were applied and only the visible pixels were included in the resulting files, which is the proper behavior.
    In CS6, this flattening/cropping does not happen and the resulting pdf are very big, containing mostly hidden pixels from the clipped-but-still-included bitmap pictures.
    What am I doing wrong here?  I'm exporting as a PDF/X-1a:2001 as before... the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" option is unchecked and grayed out...
    Idea anyone? Is this a bug in the export module?
    Thanks!

    So after hours of messing around, here is a solution to apply/crop an illustrator clipping mask on raster images when exporting as a pdf:
    - Set the transparency of the top layer to anything other than "normal".
    - Export as a PDF.
    - Done!
    What seems to happens is that setting a transparency setting triggers the flattener (accessible in Object > Flatten Transparency) upon pdf export.

  • PDF dimensions

    Would someone with Bridge CS4 be kind enough to check whether the
    thumbnail metadata report the correct size for a PDF? In CS3, I have
    Show > Dimensions (in cm) selected in thumbnail preferences, but the
    figures given are different from those contained in the PDF itself.
    Noel

    I asked this question ages ago and no-one else seemed to notice the problem. I agree that the dimensions in cm are totally incorrect for PDF thumbnails in Bridge. I have to open the pdf and then click properties to find out the exact size of the pdf. I don't know what the solution is, I'm sorry.

  • PDF document Metadata

    Hi all.
    I want to add some custome metadata to PDF file.
    I use Cos layers for it. So exists a Root/Metadata stream. I reading this stream (by CosDictGet and CosStreamOpenStm) and modify stream XML by MSXML engine. After modifying XML I put it to new created stream, then put this stream into Root dict under "Metadata' key by CosDictPut (before this I remove Metadata key from Root dict by CosDictRemove). Problem is that after saving document Root/Metadata stream will replacing by new metadata stream (no mine).
    Here is code sample:
        CosDoc destCosDoc = PDDocGetCosDoc(pdDoc);
        CosObj rootDict = CosDocGetRoot(destCosDoc);
        CosObj metadata = CosDictGet(rootDict,ASAtomFromString("Metadata"));
        CosObj  length_o =  CosDictGet  (metadata,  ASAtomFromString("Length") );
        int length = CosIntegerValue(length_o);
        ASStm stream = CosStreamOpenStm(metadata,cosOpenFiltered);
        CStringA buff;
        ASStmRead(buff.GetBufferSetLength(length),1,length,stream);
        buff.ReleaseBuffer();
        ASStmClose(stream);
         //.... modifying XML (buff variable)

    I use it like this:
      CosDictPutKeyString(rootDict,"Metadata",metadataStream);
      PDDocSave(pdDoc,PDSaveFull | PDSaveKeepModDate, NULL,ASGetDefaultFileSys(),NULL,NULL);
      CosObj metadata_obj = CosDictGetKeyString(rootDict,"Metadata");
    But still no effect.
    If after saving  I get Root/Metadata (metadata_obj) stream it didn't return  my stream (modified by me) but modified by Acrobat. But if I comment PDDocSave and get Root/Metadata it return XML stream modified by me. So PDSaveKeepModDate not working..
