Pdf discolored and compressed
Frequently, when I open a .pdf, the pages are compressed horizontally and the coloration is incorrect. If I zoom in, the .pdf will eventually render itself properly. I haven't been able to isolate conditions that cuase this, but in one instance it occured when I maximized the window but not when the window was smaller.
Here is an example. It should be a landscape 8.5x11 page, but you can see the horizontal compression. The discoloration is not as apparent, but it almost looks like every 3rd column of pixel is missing or something.
Anyone familiar with this?
The problem seems to only occur during forced sizing of the window, e.g. maximize or Windows Snap resizings.

Hello, I hope I'm not in the wrong forum for this. I am using a multi function printer/scanner to create multi page PDF's. Due to email server restrictions the PDF's cannot exceed 10 meg. For some reason this seems to hit when the PDF has scanned 30 pages and shows as a approx 7 meg in size.
I scan at 200 dpi which is the min res required for the recipients. The 30 page limit is a tough number to deal with as most scans need to be in the 150 page range. I had resigned myself to having to send 4-5 files to get each item across when I started receiving scans of 40-50 pages that only showed as approx 2 meg in size but showed as good if not better resolution.
Is there a compression utility or fix that can allow the high page count in a 2 - 3 meg file? These are scanned files and not generated word documents.
Thank youThank you all for your help, unfortunately, the files need to remain in pdf format.. and it is being put into PDF by a Samsung multi function machine. I do not have access to the specific software used by the machine, and although it does allow different formats, they do not seem to be the most efficient, from a size standpoint. I've tried to see if there were software upgrades, but without luck. I was hoping there might have been a fix or after market program that would tighten up the pdf, without changing to zip format.

I scanned a book and stored the PDF file with minimal OCR and low compression using mp ex navigator v1. Can I use Acrobat X Standard or Acrobat X Pro to take that PDF file and improve both the OCR accuracy percentage AND the compression ratio, and then it in a new PDF file?
I am running Windows 8 64-bit. It may or may not matter, but I have Office 2010.
Message was edited by: computer-girlI purchased Acrobat Pro XI last month to try to digitize all my text books (Scanned as TIFF and imported to PDF). I've been pretty unimpressed in general. Specifically to your question, it seems that if a page has a photo on it or some complex image, Acrobat won't deskew it. My version updated just today to 11.0.06 and it still has this problem. I think it does deskew when "Apply Adaptive Compression" is selected because that option causes each page to be broken into parts (text/image).
Just incase you haven't tried, on the Optimize Scanned PDF dialoge box, make sure the slider is set to "High Quality" instead of "Small Size", that may help with the image quality. In my tests, I ended up leaving it turned up all the way.
I have finally put together a workflow to deal with the problem. I use Acrobat to extract each page as a TIFF to a separate directory. I use a third party program to deskew and crop the images. I use Acrobat to reassemble them into a PDF. I use Text Recognition/In this File (Searchable Image Exact) to do OCR.
I am pleased with the results though Acrobat tries to OCR a lot of images and I just get a bunch of jumbled invisible text on my images. I don't mind it though cuz it's invisible, but pretty pathetic given the cost of this product.
I'll mention the third party program I use in a post below because I don't know if I'm allowed to post it or not. I just don't want this post to be deleted for mentioning another program.
Hope this helps others. -
I need an uncompressed file so I can use the resulting PDF to do a find/replace. Can't do it with compression.
Thanks
JDRHC1115Dave,
Thanks for the reply. Of all the suggestions I've received this seemed to
be most promising. I gave it a try and the problem is that when I attempt
to save as optimized a message box pops up and says I have to save my
document first. Low and behold when I save it, compression occurs. Even
when I select the options you suggest I'm left with a compressed document.
I'm using Acrobat Pro X

without any compression to the resulting .PDF?
You don't want the UncompressPDF plugin - that's designed to split out the
COS objects but doesn't remove the Flate encoding (plus if you've never
compiled a plugin before, it's not really the time to learn).
Instead, simply save your PDF file using the PDF (Optimized) file type,
click the Settings button and under "Clean Up" - "Object compression
options", choose "Remove compression". Turn everything else off if you
want to retain the PDF content exactly as it was before.
Your document-level scripts will then be in the file as plain text. -
Keynote PDF Export and Color Profile
I have some color trouble with the pdf-exports of keynote: the color that is shown in the pdf does not correpond with the one in the keynote file. The pdf has more ”milky” colors. Maybe it is a color profile thing. But what profile doese keynote use for the screen? Or does it convert rgb-colors to cmyk? Anyway, how to sync exactly keynote and pdf colors for screen presentations?
There are a few things you can try:
In the PDF export box there is an Image Quality dropdown, where you can choose Good, Better or Best. Which are you using?
Alternatively you can just output the file as a PDF using the Print function. Your profile says you are using Mac OS X 10.4 in which case, in the print window click on the PDF button and choose Compress PDF to output a smaller file.
If you have since moved up to 10.5, this option is no longer available by default, but there is an Automator action that restores it here : http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/compresspdfworkflow.html
The other thing to check is whether your graphics are at the actual size you need them or if you have scaled down a big picture, for example. The PDF will still contain information for the full-size image.
Re-sizing them in something like Photoshop to the size you need first before placing them in the presentation may help.
Finally, if you have Acrobat (Pro, not just the reader) you can use the Reduce File Size option in the FIle menu to compress the PDF you get from Keynote.
Post back with how you get on. -
Differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)
What are the main differences between PDF (Interactive) and PDF (Print)?
Now it seems to me that PDF (Interactive) is limited version of PDF (Print).
Any links to read about this topic?
Thank you in advance,
MykolasThere's actually quite a few differences between (Interactive) and (Print).
Here's a list of pointers written by Michael Ninness (previous product manager of InDesign and now working at Lynda.com) http://www.lynda.com/michaelninness
I just got premission from him to post this (Thanks Michael!):
Here is some info for you regarding what choices are being made under the hood when you choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive).
Things that just happen or are included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Hyperlinks, Bookmarks, Fast Web view, Compress Text and Line Art, Crop Image Data to Frames.
Things that are not included, with no choice in the dialog box:
Visible Guides/Grids, Hidden and Non-Printing Layers, Hidden and Non-Printing Objects, Marks & Bleeds, No Ink Manager or Simulate Overprint options.
Things that you can choose:
Security Settings, Embed Page Thumbnails, Create Tagged PDF, Create Acrobat Layers, Initial View, Initial Layout, Open in Full Screen Mode, Page Transitions, Image compression and resolution.
Other:
Fonts: Subset 100%
Color Conversion: Destination
Destination: sRGB
Profile Inclusion Policy: Include Destination Profile
Transparency Flattener: No Flattening
And lastly, Compatibility is set to Acrobat 9 (PDF 1.7). This last point is important, and largely explains the main reason we split Interactive PDF out as a separate export choice from Print PDF. When you export an interactive PDF from CS5, included media is now written out to the Rich Media Annotation Layer, which means this content is played back via the embedded Flash Player within Acrobat Pro 9 or Adobe Reader 9 or higher. In previous versions, this content was written out to the Screen Annotation Layer, which meant this content was played back via QuickTime. This has been a long-standing headache for end users as playback across platforms was often inconsistent, would frequently break when Apple updated QuickTime, etc.
Lastly, if you want to include rich media in your interactive PDFs (SWFs, audio and video), the only formats supported if you want to target Adobe PDF (Interactive) are MP3 for audio and FLV for video. Other file formats will need to be converted to these formats before you export to Interactive PDF. For video files, you’ll be able to convert to FLV with Adobe Media Encoder. For audio files, you can use any number for free audio conversion tools, including iTunes.

Create PDF without image compression?
How do i create a pdf from multiple images without any compression?
Seems like even if i do optimize pdf and select png(edit the settings to do max res and no downscaling), when it saves the pdf, at 100% zoom, it's obviously bigger than my original png and compressed(or maybe it looks blurry because it's being upscaled when i never requested).
In short, if my png is 500x500, i want it to be exactly that size at 100% maginification once the pdf is saved out. I don't want any compression, i don't want any scaling...why is it so hard to do this???
Any help is much appreciated!However... the conversion can be lossless. If you make a PDF file from a SINGLE image (different option) and select the image format in Files of Type you can click Settings and choose the format for compression. Choose ZIP and compression equivalent to PNG is used.
You also have fine control when printing to PDF.
It's just the Combine Files function, which is fast and simple, that lacks choices. -
Using Compressor to Deinterlace and compress to H.264?
I'm a video novice, and a bit puzzled as to why Compressor was included with Logic Studio.
Anyway, I'm just in the process of copying some video from my Sky+ box (a satellite PVR, closed system) which I've bought the Canopus ADVC55 for (via a 0.5 metre QED Qunex SVS cable). It converts S-video to DV.
I've tried using Quicktime Pro and MPEG streamclip to deinterlace and compress to H.264, but the results from Quicktime were terrible (blurry - my wife described it as looking like a VHS recording), and while MPEG streamclip was better it's clearly inferior to the source.
Since I discovered that Compressor (3.0.3) came with Logic Studio and I have it on my hard drive, I thought I might as well give that a try. Unfortunately I cannot (even with reading the manual) work out how it works, even so far as being unable to get the Frame Controls menu to appear!
Any tips for a beginner would be very welcome!
PS. While it seems a little unnecessary for my purposes - would it be worth getting Final Cut Express? I really just want to trim the video (perhaps cut out adverts) and export for the Apple TV in H.264 and deinterlace.MPEG Streamclip is only an interface. It uses QuickTime and whatever QT plug-ins as its engine. It gives you the demux option for MPEG-2 files, which is its intent, but it is still QuickTime.
Compressor has a much more complex and capable compression algorithms. Unfortunately, compression is mathematical operation and requires a bit of knowing the process. You don't need to know a lot of math, but it would behoove you read a bit about video compression. The 30 or 40 pages of the DVD Studio Pro manual is a great start if you can download it as a PDF. -
Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
Thanks!

Message was edited by: Dan FoleyThank you for the replies. Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems. I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work. I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic. When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones. This actually helped. I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems. I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac. I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed. Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio. -
My .jpg's have ALL suddenly been converted to .pdf's and I am unable to open them
Using Windows 8.1, when I went to view some jpg's earlier today, I found they now show as "Adobe Acrobat Documents." When I try to open one, I get the error message that they are jpg's and Adobe is unable to open a jpg.???
And it was easy -- once I went to "Properties" in Windows Explorer. That was the tough part -- finding where to make the change.
Thank you for your help.

Hyperlinks do not work when exporting to PDF (Crystal and Visual Cut)
I have a question about Crystal Reports XI Release 2 and Visual Cut 11. I create reports in Crystal and export them using Visual Cut. Some reports contain hyperlinks to files on a network drive. However, the links only work while in Crystal. The PDF files that are printed through Visual Cut display the links, but they are not clickable. How can this issue be fixed?
In case it helps, the links also work when I export reports from Crystal to HTML, Word, and Excel, but not when I export to Acrobat. I believe it is a problem with tagging/accessibilityfeatures. So is there a setting/formula in Crystal or Visual Cut that would allow the exported PDF files to be accessible? While Crystal exports to pdf indeed lose hyperlink functionality (both in Crystal as well as in Visual CUT), Visual CUT allows you to use Crystal formulas (acting as hidden Tags) to create hyperlinks in the resulting pdf file. Another option supported by Visual CUT it to automatically detect file references in the pdf text and turn them into hyperlinks. Contact MilletSoftware for more detail.

Print to PDF; Print to Compressed PDF; Print to Web Receipts menu, MISSING
I have been trying for several days now to restore printer prefs for a HP Officejet 7410.
Under Mac OS 10.5, and after reinstalling HP software and drivers from www.hp.com, the drop down menu for PDF option is missing entirely! As a work around... have tried 'file > save as', then choose pdf option. (This option only works in a very limited number of programs! I have gotten accustomed to 'printing to pdf' for archiving and password protecting key docs, and emails, et al; and therefore would like to regain this essential feature.
Question is, are others having this same problem with other printers, or have I missed some critical step in setting up my printer? (I already deleted all printers , then created a new printer profile from the print&fax menu under system preferences).
Any thoughts or useful observations, are Greatly Appreciated.
Sincerely,
GeoffJohn.
+Thanks for reply.+
Re: +What steps have you taken to restore printer prefs?+
Originally installed Leopard (OS 10.5) using the *'UPGRADE to MAC OS'* selection.
Went to system preferences > deleted all printers. Clicked "+" button to add HP 7400 Series printer via bonjour. Added other virtual printers (FaxSTF). HP 7410 Printer dialog box was still missing "print to PDF" feature, and other features, so downloaded and installed current software and drivers for HP Officejet 7410. Again deleted all printers from 'Print & Fax' dialog box of System Preferences. Added printers Officejet 7400 Series ; and Officejet 7400 Series FAX.
Still have no "print to pdf" functions; can not use HP color rendering technology, only colorsync is available. Control over ink density, color temperature, and other previous print dialog choices are all MISSING IN ACTION.
I have rebooted from a cloned external HD using prior OS (10.4.10) all printer features function properly. So have concluded that Leopard is not 'prime-time' ready as far as many third party printers. Don't know when either HP will update it's drivers, or when Apple will create a update for devise drivers. Imagine there'll be some finger pointing for source of problem between HP & Apple. Guess will be returning to OS 10.4.10 until these bugs are ironed out.
If you have any other thoughts or suggestions, please drop me a note.
Thanks,
Geoff -
It had been working properly until recently. I have tried the usual setting in firefox>preferences>applications. It accepts Preview as default, but uses Adobe anyway. If I set it to Ask, it does ask me, and when I tell it to use Preview it uses Adobe.
Desired default operation is download PDF's and open with Preview. The file that stores your preferences for how to open downloads is named mimeTypes.rdf. Since it has a somewhat inscrutable format, the usual remedy is to rename it and have Firefox generate a new one.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show in Finder" button
Leaving Finder open, switch back to Firefox and Quit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Restart Firefox and reselect your preference. Any improvement? -

Regards,
Raj.Hello,
Following is the procedure to convert alv output to spool and then it to PDF Format.
After we display the ALV, we can check whether it is running in the background using system field u2018sy-batchu2018. Then,we call an function module named u2018GET_JOB_RUNTIME_INFOu2019 to get the current job information. Then go to spool request table tbtcp to get the spool id.
Get current job details
CALL FUNCTION u2018GET_JOB_RUNTIME_INFOu2019
IMPORTING
eventid = gd_eventid
eventparm = gd_eventparm
external_program_active = gd_external_program_active

AND jobcount = gd_jobcount
AND stepcount = gd_stepcount
AND listident <> u20180000000000u2032
ORDER BY jobname
jobcount
stepcount.
READ TABLE it_tbtcp INTO wa_tbtcp INDEX 1.
Finally, we can call function module u2018CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDFu2018 to convert spool reqeust(which is stored in OTF format) to PDF format. Then we can call either function module u2018SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1u2032 or SAP BCS (Business Communication Service) to send the pdf as an email attachment.
