Pdf display issues in IE.

I seem to have a tricky issue with displaying pdf through a java servlet in IE. The pdf displays properly when i hit the servlet for the first time; but when i try to open a new window I get a blank screen. I see in the browser status that the pdf is downloading but nothing appears in the IE7 browser window. There is no such issue in firefox or safari. I have a pretty standard generic servlet to display all content files and not just pdf files. I can post the code if required. Let me know if any ideas on how to debug/solve this ?

Thanks for the pointers. I havent had the chance to debug a lot. but after seeing your comment it does look like some kind of caching or session related issue. So if you open a completely new IE browser window then the pdf opens up fine but not from the same window (in a new tab) ? Unfortunately we have a the pdf in a iframe in our portal and a link to open the pdf in a new window !!

  • PDF Document Display Issue - iPad Mini iOS 8.1

I use my iPad heavily doing in-home sales. I rely on a combination of Box, PDF Expert, and Notability to retrieve and create information/documents.
After updating my iPad Mini to iOS 8, I started having a display issue when trying to pull up my pricebook in front of a client from Box, where I've always pulled that document from. It showed me one page, and the rest were blank. I opened it in PDF Expert, thinking it was a Box issue - and this time the document was blurry. Being a good stubborn Irishman, I whipped out my iPhone 4 and opened the document fine in Box.
Afterwards, I download DROPBOX, opened the file in iBooks, deleted applications and re-installed them - all with varying challenges and 0 results. The same document opens up great in my iPhone, just will no longer work correctly on my iPad Mini.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    Hey there Haparari,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPad is in recovery mode after running into an issue updating it to the latest version of iOS with iTunes on your computer. • Display issue with LiveCycle Designer ES4 for cropped PDF in WIN7

    Hi,
I am having issue displaying the cropped PDF file in the LiveCycle Designer ES4. The PDF files are cropped 3 inches from bottom using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. It used to display properly when we have a WinXP machine but once we moved to a Win7 machine, it cannot display the top part of the PDF anymore. Can anyone help on how to fix the display issue? Thanks.

    Thanks vNohria.
I am having same issue with Adobe Acrobat 9. The Acrobat 9 cropped file is displaying properly under WinXP but have the same issue as above in Win7. This issue seems uncommon as I tried to look for similar issue  and couldn't find any.
P.S. It's only the Design View in Win7 that has the issue, I can still see the file fine with Preview PDF in both enviornment.

  • Display issues between Pro and reader

    Greetings,
My colleague and I are having issues getting a form we created to display as designed in reader.
The editable pdf displays as designed in Pro. When we open it up in reader and begin to type in a field, the text displays in an extremely small size. Once you click off the field, it will enlarge the font to the desired size. We are obviously overlooking something but I'm not certain what that is.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm seeing a similar problem, though short-term sleep

Can't view PDF on the web
have done EVERY single thing on this page to no avail, pdfs display fine in every other browser and on pc, just not in ie
I have acrobat pro 11 and windows 8.1

Install the latest update of Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
Adobe releases free security updates quarterly. It is important to update your version of Reader or Acrobat to the latest release. The updates often include fixes to common problems. Download the latest free update:
Note: Microsoft Windows 7 requires Adobe Reader 9.2 or later.
    1.      Open Reader or Acrobat.
    2.      Choose Help > Check for Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
    3.      Once installed, restart your computer.
    To the top<http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/cant-view-pdf-web.html>
Refresh or reload the page (done, no effect)
Often, just refreshing the page allows the PDF to load fully.
Hold down the Shift key and press the    Refresh or    Reload button in the browser.
Try to view a different PDF (done, no effect)
Try viewing a different PDF. For example, see if this sample form<http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Samples/flatform.pdf> displays in your browser.(DOES NOT OPEN) If Acrobat or Reader can open the sample form, then the other PDF could be damaged or the web server could be having problems. If possible, contact the individual or company who manages the website.
    1.      Try to view a PDF on your hard drive .  (ALL PDFS OPEN ON HARD DRIVE)

Problem with the browser or its settings?
Use a different web browser  (Pdf'S open in alternate browsers)
Certain conditions on your computer, such as security settings or browser cookies, can prevent you from viewing a PDF. Often, the fastest solution is to try to open the page using a different browser. Try any of the following browsers that you have not already tried:
    Mozilla Firefox<http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/>
    Microsoft Internet Explorer<http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx>
    Apple Safari<http://www.apple.com/safari/download>
For a list of compatible browsers for Reader and Acrobat X, see this list of Compatible web browsers<http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html>.
Switch to Compatibility View (Internet Explorer) (done, no effect)
Some websites display better in the Compatibility View of Internet Explorer. The Compatibility View displays a page as if it was an earlier version of the browser. For instructions on how to switch to this view, see one of these documents on the Microsoft website:
Internet Explorer 9: How to use Compatibility View in Internet Explorer 9<http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/How-to-use-Compatibility-View-in-Internet-Expl orer-9>
Internet Explorer 8: Why are some web pages blank or incorrectly displayed in Internet Explorer<http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/webpages-look-incorrect-in-Internet-Explorer>.
Restart your computer and try opening the PDF again (done, no effect)
Restart your computer, then open the web page again. Restarting clears the computer memory and memory cache. It is surprising how often simply restarting your computer resolves a display issue.
Delete temporary Internet files (Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome) (done, no effect)
Clear the browser cache (sometimes called 'temporary Internet files') to ensure that you are viewing a fresh version of the page. When you open a web page, the browser saves a temporary copy so that it opens more quickly next time. You want to force the browser to load the entire page directly from the server, rather than displaying a stored copy.
Reset the Display PDF In Browser preference (done, no effect)
    1.      In Reader or Acrobat, right-click the document window, and select Page Display Preferences.
    2.      From the list at left, select Internet.
    3.      Deselect Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
    4.      Choose Edit > Preferences > Internet, select Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
    5.      Try to open the PDF again from the website.
View PDF in 32-bit version of Internet Explorer or Safari (done, no effect)
Acrobat and Reader are 32-bit applications on Windows. If you try to open a PDF in a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, the PDF opens in stand-alone Acrobat or Reader, not in Internet Explorer.
Remove DreamFactory (Firefox only) (done, no effect)
If you receive the error "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDFs in your web browser," do the following:
    1.      Choose Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box, and then click OK to open the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box.
    2.      Select Change Or Remove Programs in the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box, select DreamFactory Runtime for Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox, and click Change/Remove.
    3.      Click OK in the Remove Programs From Your Computer dialog box.

    Problem with Reader or Acrobat?
Remove unmatched or multiple versions of Reader or Acrobat  (already did this including running a cleaner from the Adobe site) (done, no effect)
Repair Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
Reader or Acrobat could be damaged. Repairing the installation is a quick troubleshooting safeguard.
Repair from within Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
(Reader) Choose Help > Repair Adobe Reader Installation.
(Acrobat) Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation.
Repair using Control Panel (Windows) (done, no effect)
You can also repair your Acrobat or Reader installation using the Windows Control Panel.
Enable the Adobe PDF browser add-on (Internet Explorer) (done, no effect)
Make sure that the Adobe PDF browser add-on, AdobePDF.dll, is enabled.
Run Acrobat or Reader in a new local administrator account (done, no effect)
Optimize large PDF files (not the problem)
If the PDF file is 4 MB or larger, ask the provider to optimize the PDF file. For information about optimizing PDF files, see
Check the registry path for Acrobat or Reader (Windows) (done, no effect)
Repair the HKCR\AcroExch.Document registry key (Windows) (done, no effect)

  • PDF access issue with OHS WebGate

    Hi all,
The architecture has OAM, OID, Documentum server. OID is used as user store for OAM. Documentum application is deployed in WebLOgic server. There is a OHS server front ending the WebLOgic server where we installed the webgate. We are protecting the Documentum URL through OHS host name in OAM Policy domain and everything is working fine so far. While downloading a pdf document in Documentum server application, it is processing as 33% and hangs over for 5 mins and finally displays an error given below.
    invokeMethod() failed while calling: onReturnFromProgress
Operation failed : com.documentum.ucf.common.transport.TransportException: Client failed to handshake with server within 250 seconds.
After closing this window, press the Refresh or Reload button on your browser to continue
I have seen couple of metalink notes about this pdf webgate issue and tried several options for webgate params CachePragmaHeader and CacheControlHeader.
    Tried the following combinations:
    CachePragmaHeader           private
    CacheControlHeader private
    CachePragmaHeader           novalue
    CacheControlHeader novalue
    CachePragmaHeader           public
    CacheControlHeader public
    CachePragmaHeader           novalue
    CacheControlHeader private
    CachePragmaHeader           novalue
    CacheControlHeader public
Like this I have tried almost 9 combinations but no luck. Also tried disabling the IP validation. There are no errors in webgate or access server logs
Please let me know if you have any clue on this.
    -Mahendra.

We're seeing an issue that looks almost identical to this but using Windows 2008/IIS7.x and WebGate v10.1.4.3. The PDF will begin download then it looks like a connection resets. We've tried it using PDF's ranging in size from <1mb to over >16mb. The results are consistent. On IIS turning off "http keep alive" allows the downloads to proceed (and probably diminishes performance to some degree).
While the workaround we found allows PDFs to download I'd really be interested in seeing what's causing this.

  • PDF Images Issues

This post may be redundant from what another member (nothvice) had issues with - Lines around elements in recently created PDFs.
I work at a packaging design firm. Recently we have been having a lot of trouble with our PDFs displaying a dark line around certain elements on screen. Printed they look fine, but on screen they view "stroked" almost.
It is becoming a problem because we have to try to convince our customers and clients that it is only in the PDF on screen and it will not print that way. While this may be the truth it is not easily accepted by our clients and we have to spend time with lengthy work-arounds to remedy the problem. While we can go into Preferences and uncheck the smooth images check box, to ask each of our clients to make changes in their PDF user preferences is also a bit more than we should have to ask of them.
Previously we had not had these problems. We are used to seeing the lines now on certain PDFs but when returning to a previous file for rework (which had no prior display issues) we now get the outlines which stand out immediately, to us as well as the client.
We cannot seem to determine the exact timeframe when these issues started. We have all recently migrated to new Intel machines and CS4 at the same time (May-June '09). We have tried to discover the root of the issues by going back to some of our older G5 machines and previous versions of Illustrator and Acrobat. We are however running into the issues over all of our machines now. This is very confusing to us and our IT team as this certainly wasn't happening before.
Before what? We can't seem to figure that out.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Chuck
Attached are two screen shots of one of the jobs where we had no previous display issues (in '07 and '08), but currently are having issues. Picture 2 is the recent PDF opened in Acrobat 9 Pro. Picture 3 is the older PDF of the same job created in '07 also opened in Acrobat 9 Pro. There are obvious visual differences in the images.

In my most recent investigations it seems that the Raster/Vector balance needs to be at 100% (weighing on Vector) to get rid of the "stroke" effect on the images in our PDFs. This basically flattens all transparencies in the job.
This is unfortunately only avaiable to edit when saving back to Acrobat 4 or in X1a. Another problem is that when flattening the transparencies we end up with issues which look like thin, stroked boxes floating around the job. I know these will not print. We see this in our X1a PDFs all of the time, but it is still an issue with our clients when they see it. Even to assure them it will print perfectly does not ease their minds over what they see on screen.
I will continue investigating and will check back here often for any help from you all.
    Thanks again
    Chuck

  • PDF downloading issues

I have an iMac.  Recently when I try to open or download a document from Safari it partially downloads and stops w/o opening the document.  If I try again, it downloads a smaller portion of the documents and again it stops and does not opne document.  I have tried to clear cache w/o any improvement.  I would appreciate any help.  Thank you.

    Step 1
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
    Step 2
Remove the Norton/Symantec product by following the instructions on either of these pages:
Uninstalling your Norton product for Mac
    Removing Symantec programs for Macintosh
If you have a different version of the product, the procedure may be different.

  • T42 Display issue

I have a T42 2376-C31 that is having a display issue, pink on the lower left bottom, I most likely will replace the screen. I disassembled the laptop and there are three wires two long ones one black one white going to the wireless card and a short white one that I can't remember where it attached, I downloaded the pdf's 39t2332 and 39t6192_01 and neither give enough detail where this third wire attaches to. Does anyone know where it goes? I thought it attached to the modem but after unwrapping the protective film couldn't see anywhere it attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Secondly with the Radeon 7500 what is the best screen size I can replace the older screen 1024x768 with?
    Brooke

you can go with a SXGA+ screen.

I have an iphone 4s that is having display issues. If I turn the phone on, it vibrates to acknowledge it successfully turned on but the screen stays solid black. I can plug the phone into my computer and itunes will recognize the phone as well. However, itunes can not do anything with the phone because the phone is locked and I can not unlock the phone because the screen is black.
    >CURVEBALL!!!<
The screen does work though! Through trial and error along side a little troubleshooting, I was able to figure out that the screen will cut on after the phone dies completely. The phone has to die completely with no battery power left. Then if I plug the phone into a charge and wait a while for it to charge, the phone will turn on like nothing was ever even wrong with it. I charge the phone up to like 30% and turn it off then bam the phone turns on but the screen is solid black again.
I am currently in the process of waiting for the phone to die and when I turn the phone back on I am going to completely remove the auto-lock and lock code off of the phone for the time being.
    Any other suggestions? Please help!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

  • Display issue on brand new 2014 X1 Carbon Touch

So I was about to start raving about my X1C that I just received. Loving the display, the keyboard, build quality, etc. I had no gripes and was just browsing away when suddenly the screen did the full glitch. I recognize this as what happens when something's messed with the motherboard/display adapter. So I gave it a reset. All was normal and then it happened again. I was able to replicate it 3-4 times and it keeps happening. I never dropped it or anything. It was always just stationary.
I can't believe this. I had problems with the first gen non-touch and touch. I was hoping by now they have improved.

  • Display Issues with mini (Mid 2010) and LG L246WP

I recently purchased a new mini (Mid 2010 base model) and planned to use it with my 24" LG L246WP monitor, which is about 3 years old. The monitor has VGA, component, and HDMI inputs.
I used an HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect the mini directly to the monitor, and the output is completely messed up. The mini recognized the monitor (titling the System Preferences > Display dialog with 'L246WP') and set it to the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200, but on the monitor the image is cropped to what looks like a 4:3 aspect ratio and with part of the image shifted up and left so I cannot view the top menu bar or the left hand side of the desktop. The monitor's on-screen display shows 1080p in this mode.
The Display dialog also gives me an option for 1080p. I can select this and use the Underscan slider to resize the desktop output to fit on the screen, but it is still shifted left and must be resized smaller than the available display space (plus the total image is only 1080 pixels, not using the monitor's full native screen). In this mode, 1080p also shows on the monitor's on-screen display.
I tried 1024x768 to see if I could get a properly-positioned image, but the desktop was shifted just like in the 1920x1200 case and the monitor's on-screen display status still reported 1080p.
The monitor has a menu setting under an HDMI heading with "Video" and "PC" options, but changing this selection does not make a difference.
Since the monitor came out before HDMI was as widespread as it is today, it came with a DVI-to-HDMI cable, so I also tried using that cable with the HDMI-to-DVI adapter that came with the mini, but this did not make a difference either.
To prove it wasn't the HDMI cable, I connected the mini to my Samsung 6300 series 40" LED HDTV and with some tweaking of the Underscan slider the displayed image filled the screen perfectly.
I've searched the Internet and various forum threads (i.e. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1167222&page=63) seem to indicate this monitor can send a corrupted EDID that causes issues, especially with nVidia graphics drivers. On Windows you can use registry or driver hacks to override the EDID with the correct values, but on OS X this doesn't seem possible (I was hoping for a Terminal one-liner but it seems this doesn't exist). I have seen some mentions of the shareware SwitchResX (http://www.madrau.com), which looks like it gives you the option to override resolution settings, but I haven't tried this yet.
It also appears to me that the monitor is always interpreting the signal (or the mini is always sending the signal) as 1080p, even if I've set 1920x1200 in the Display dialog. I don't know if this is a defect in the monitor where it always assumes the HDMI input is a 1080p source (previous I used it with an Xbox 360 with no issues but that was 1080p HDMI), or if is a bug in the graphics drivers (or at least a lack of flexibility / miscommunication to the user trying to handle a corrupt EDID).
I asked my local Genius Bar for advice today (without bringing any hardware in) but was not told anything I didn't already know.
I'm trying to determine the best way to work through this issue. *My questions are:*
Would it make any difference if I used a Mini DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter (and then my DVI-to-HDMI cable to the monitor's HDMI input)?
What about a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter? In the past I used a 12" Powerbook (via a mini-DVI-to-VGA adapter) with this monitor and had no display issues like this, but I'd prefer to stick with a digital connection on my brand new mini.
Is SwitchResX the only practical way in OS X to override a corrupt EDID and force the mini to output a certain resolution?
Besides the various adapters and SwitchResX, is there anything else I should try before buying a new monitor?

    Hello EPWilson4984.
I have been experiencing the same issues you described. Connecting my brand new Mac Mini to my Westinghouse 24”monitor (L2410NM,  1920x1200 pixel resolution) produces a very fuzzy and washed out image quality. The Mac recognizes the monitor and applies the right resolution (1920x1200), but it looks just awful. The EDID info is definitely not right.
Now, I tried your suggestion (DVI-to-HDMI), and similar suggestions from other threads, but nothing works. Nothing seems to work at all.
The main input for the monitor is HDMI, so whatever cable I use, in the end always has to connect to the monitor via HDMI. I tried all these combinations with zero success:
Mac mini -> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini -> displayport –HDMI adapter-> HDMI cable -> monitor (result: fuzzy and blurry image)
Mac mini  -> displayport –DVI adapter-> DVI-to-HDMI cable -> monitor (result: it gives me a blank screen, no image at all)
I’m running out of options. Don’t know what to do. The 24” monitor produces beautiful, crisp images when hooked to my Windows 7 PC. It looks horrible when connected to my brand new Mac Mini.
Any alternatives you may have come across? Please let me know, thank you.

  • Repeated iMac Problems, Display Issues now Kernel Panics

I’m lost on what’s wrong with my 2008 iMac and I think I just have to bring it back into Apple for a third time to have it repaired. But something is obviously not working that is causing these issues.
About a month ago, my computer began showing heavy pixilation, flickering images and the on-screen graphics. The computer appeared to keep working in the background from what I could tell so I came to conclusion that it must be the graphics card that’s failing and I’ll need to have it looked at.
My 2008 iMac was custom-built by Apple with the Nvidia GeForce 8800GS that was offered as an upgrade option. There have been several posts on the display and graphics discussion board about that graphics card along with other postings other places about the problems the Nvidia GeForce 8-series had.
The display problems I mention above would not happen immediately, it would happen as the computer warmed up and was used for 3-5 minutes.
Anyway I brought my computer into Apple explained to them what I believed was the problem and the Apple Store technician agreed with me. Because I did not purchase AppleCare, it cost me $400 and a week without my iMac to have that card replaced.
I got the computer back two weeks ago and everything seemed fine. It was working as it always had. I even was running SMC Fan Control in order to keep the computer as cool as I could (the Nvidia problem was related to overheating).
But this morning, this is what I woke up to:

The computer now has a semi-permanent pixilation when it starts up (as suppose to the pixilation 3-5 minutes into use). But more worrisome now is I cannot start up the computer without it going into a kernel panic. I tried resetting the PRAM, I tried starting in safe mode. The only thing I haven’t tried yet is booting from an external HD which I will try this evening (to hopefully isolate it if it’s hardware or a software problem).
The Apple Hardware Test has been unhelpful. When it originally failed three weeks ago, the test showed nothing and this morning when I ran it (permanent pixilation and all), it showed nothing. I feel like if it was a software issue the pixilation would have disappeared during the hardware test because that’s not an OS-X based program.
Here are my specs on this computer:
2008 iMac 24" 2.8ghz Intel Core Duo, 4 gigs of RAM (Crucial Purchased, I have original sticks somewhere), 1 TB HD, Nvidia GeForce 8800GS.

Hi, just to update you, I came home today and did a few things that didn't seem to solve my Mac's problems:
    - I booted up from my firewire "safe" drive that I keep a copy os x on to see if I had a corrupted hard drive or something. It booted into the kernel panic I described above.
    - I also swapped out the crucial RAM for Apple's factory RAM. It also booted into the Kernel Panic.
In both incidents, the display issues didn't go away. Now instead of pixelization i have vertical bars running in a pattern across my screen.
I'm currently trying to boot onto the OS X CD at this point to see if I could do a reinstall. It's taking quite awhile to boot into that.
With that in mind, I think we're still having graphics card issues or more seriously some logic board problem.

  • Bizarre & Random Dashboards Display Issues/Errors

    Hello,
I am on BI 4.1 SP04 and these dashboards were developed using an equivalent level on the client tool. (4.1 SP04)
Sometimes we get very strange and often random display issues with our dashboards. I have attached screen shots for examples. Sometime we are missing data points from rendering on the charts, other times a line chart will extend into a bar chart.  Has anyone experienced this or have any idea what could cause this? It is very frustrating...
    Thanks for looking,
    Gary
Missing data points on yellow line, yet line rendering with proper data (other wise would have 0's in places, etc)
Green line missing dot on last end point
In this example there are no dots on the yellow line or green line
In this example the blue line has turned into massive columns extending across the charts

This patch should resolve the issue in the last screenshot. I still face the other issues after upgrading to SP3 Patch 4. The dots in line chart take some time to appear. Also, if we use dynamic visibility, the components taking considerable time to appear sometimes. I hope this will also be fixed in later patches. Please share your experience too after applying the patch.
