PDF Document Counting Form Field

I've searched and can't seem to find a solution to this - is there a way to include a document counter so that when a person opens or saves a pdf, it shows the number of that pdf. If I open it, it will show Doc #1 and the next person to open/save it, shows Doc #2 and so forth.
Thank you!!!

I know nothing about programing.  However, I was able to create a stamp following the directions at http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2009/05/add_dynamic_exhibit_stamps_in_ac.html,
The problem is that I need the stamp value to increment each time I stamp something.  For example, if I have a binder with 40 emails, I want to be able to just go through the pages and stamp each one with the number on the stamp incrementing by one.  Can you or anyone tell me how to do this - in language suitable for a "dummie"?  Thank you.  My email is [email protected] Thanks again.

    Hello,
    I'm not a specialist, but I think that you could configure these information in the /Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file
    # Aliases: Add here as many aliases as you need (with no limit). The format is
    # Alias fakename realname
    <IfModule mod_alias.c>
        # Note that if you include a trailing / on fakename then the server will
        # require it to be present in the URL.  So "/icons" isn't aliased in this
        # example, only "/icons/"..
        Alias /icons/ "/appli/9IAS/Apache/Apache/icons/"
        Alias /jservdocs/ "/appli/9IAS/Apache/Jserv/docs/"
        Alias /javacachedocs/ "/appli/9IAS/javacache/javadoc/"

    I have a user on Adobe Reader X.  whenever they open a .pdf file, the form fields do not auto-fill until you click in the box.  Is there a setting that can be changed to make the form open properly?

    Sounds like the form fields were filled in on a Mac using Mac Preview. This cannot be fixed in Reader only Acrobat. Ask the person who filled in the form to redo their work in Adobe Reader.

  • This PDF document contains forms. The filling of forms is not supported.

    I get this message when I attempt to open a password protected document. "This PDF document contains forms. The filling of forms is not supported." It won't even let me enter the password.  What do I do?

    Hi stephenh20710301,
    Could you please let me know if you are using the latest version of Reader i.e 11.0.10
    Ask the PDF creator or if you are the creator, open the PDF in Acrobat XI (latest version) and choose "File> Save as Other> Reader Extended PDF> Enable more Tools"
    Let me know if this helps.

  • Optimize a PDF doc with form fields

    Hi All,
    I have completed a PDF with multiple form fields (about 70). It's only one 8.5 x 11 page. It is 2.2 mB large. I've tried different ways of Optimizer but it always removes the input field functionality.
    How can I decrease file size while maintaining the integrity of the form? Thank you so much in advance. PDF attached.
    Dina

    Generally, the only thing that I remove after creating a pdf file with forms that doesn't effect the fields is to remove embedded fonts. It would be best to to all of the other optimizations before creating the form fields.
    That's nice you say, but I've got the form fields already. Try reducing the size (as you have already done), then replace the page in the file with the form fields with the one whose size you have reduced. The form fields should stay. I don't know what happens to the size of the new file, let us know?

  • Converting a Word document with form fields to become a form fillable PDF file with email

    We are trying to convert a number of word(97,and 2000) documents but it never works correctly. The converted PDF file is missing fields and the fields it does convert is one character long. The idea was to have LiveCycle just convert it without anyone having the need to re-design it. They would only need to add a submit button and an email address to the PDF form. Is there something we are missing?

    For the problem of submitting by email and still submitting a PDF file:
    The stock "Submit by Email" button submits via XML. I think you can do one of two things to get it to work:
    1) Use a regular "Button" instead of an "Email Submit Button". Set it's type to "Submit" in the Field tab; then on the Submit tab, use something like "mailto:name@company" for your email address in the Submit To URL box, and set the Submit As type to PDF.
    2) Change the XML for your Email Submit button (in the XML Source view): You'll find something like,
    <event name="event__click" activity="click">
    <submit format="xml" textEncoding="UTF-8" target="mailto:name@company"/>
    </event>
    Change it to:
    <event activity="click" name="event__click">
    <submit format="pdf" textEncoding="UTF-16" xdpContent="pdf datasets xfdf" target="mailto:name@company"/>
    </event>
    I don't know if you need to change just the "Submit format" in the XML, or also add the xdpContent tag.
    Hope that works,
    Mike

  • " This PDF document contains forms. The filling of form fields is not supported" -help?

    I need to fill in & submit online forms but I keep getting the above message. I realise I can view and fill in the forms in an adobe window, but I need to do this online, and it is a secure website with the form imbedded. Is there any way I can have the "filling of form fields" supported so I can do this, please?

    To switch from the less full featured built-in viewer to Adobe's Acrobat plugin, see the steps in this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
    Can you get it working?

  • I cannot place an electronic signature in a document with form fields?!

    I have Acrobat Pro installed on a windows 7 and windows 8.1 machine. On both I have lost the ability to place an electronic signature (Draw my signature) and only have the option for a digital signature. The problem is remedied if I print to pdf but then I lose the form fields.
    I'm an idiot and so are the people that I need to send this to. I just want to easily fill the necessary fields out, draw my signature and forward it to the next guy to do the same so that it can be printed and turned in. Digital signatures are severe overkill for this (and i'm not going to be able to teach everyone how to create one) and I need to know how to re-enable the ability to electronically sign and keep the form fields.

    re: "Digital signatures are severe overkill for this"
    Yep, I discovered that as well.
    I rolled my own "signature" for a client...I just added a 3 character "initials" field and a "Certify" button.
    The initials act as the signature and once they hit the certify button, all form fields are set to read-only....via custom javascript.
    The only problem is that I am unable to SAVE the document via javascript because of Acrobat trusted functions....
    which I don't have.
    So I just prompt the user to Save the document at that time.
    It's a little ugly, but it works..

  • Publicly sharing PDF's with form fields, tags and bookmars.

    I'm looking to be able to share a PDF document so that my coworkers are able to acces this document. I'm very aware of various ways to share the PDF, via email or Google Docs, but I need some sort of hosting that will support form fields, tags and bookmarks. It would be very beneficial if everyone would be able to access the PDF after 'sharing' and viewing on a URL. But, I really need them to be able to search and navigate easily through the bookmarks and buttons. We need this shared via internet because sharing the PDF document itself to each individual employe's computer, runs the risk of slowing computers down. Is there anything I can use, some sort of hosting site or program similar to Google Docs that will support these features?

    Note The Adobe PDFviewer requires that users to use Safari or Webkit based Browsers only.
    All gecko based browsers will not work. Adobe made conscious decision when OSX came out Not support gecko based browsers.
    So if you have any of the following Gecko based Browsers you have to use another plugin.
    SeaMonkey (equivelent to the Communicator All-in-one)
    FireFox
    Camino
    OmniWeb
    Opera and others.
    You have to use a Plugin from a fellow named Schubert of Germany, called PDFBrowser Plugin
    It supports all Browsers except Internet Explorer. Makes no difference whether gecko or webkit based. The plugin author is banned by Adobe from putting in forms support.
    And using Apple's Preview will absolute corrupt a PDF Form making it unusable if opened in Reader or Acrobat after being viewed and saved in Preview.

  • Firefox 4: Printing to PDF: Text in form fields can't be selected

    I have a problem when printing to PDFs (using PDFCreator, but this doesn't seem to matter): while the text of a web site is printed as text, the content of form fields always gets rasterized so that it is impossible to search or select it. It happens on all sites, e.g. try printing http://www.december.com/html/demo/form.html and selecting "All is well that ends well".
    Details:
    - HW acceleration is off (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/760923).
    - Happens also in safe mode.
    - in IE9 this issue doesn't appear. In FF3.x it didn't appear as well.
    - using FF 4.0.1
    Thanks a lot.

  • I/O error opening a pdf file with form fields, using itextsharp

    Hi,
    I'm using itextsharp PDFStamper to set the form fields in a pdf file. It works on my computer properly, but on the QA site and other developer's machine it only shows the values of the form fields, the original text does not show, and it gives the error message "An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly". Please does any one know what's causing this error and how to fix it?.
    Thanks,
    Uyi

    I recommend you try tech support for the iTextSharp product (I believe
    there is a mailing list). This forum is for questions about
    understanding the PDF Specifications. You could try an Acrobat forum,
    but I think the first option has a better chance of success.

  • Combining various PDF files with forms fields: How To?

    Hi people.
    I have a problem with my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and some PDFs.
    Each file has a lot of form fields and they has the same name. When I try to combine allowed files in acrobat, the "combinator" throw a message adverting me that the fields are the same and will have the same content. The only posibility is to create a "PDF Folder". But I need to distribute a simple PDF file compatible with Acrobat Reader (and the most usual issue is ... Acrobat Reader 6). So...
    Is there any possibility to create a single file from a PDF folder?
    Thank you so much!

    Thank you so much for your quickly answer but... if this is the only way... then I have a very very very serious problem.
    I have 45 PDF individual files (with two pages each one) and I need to generate a single file with my 45 files (90 pages). Each file has more than 30 fields...
    What should I do?
    Thanks!

  • Pdf files lack form field contents :(

    I'm a house call veterinarian, and all of my patients' medical records are in pdf files. I'd LOVE to be able to reference these records when I am driving around town, without having to lug around the laptop.
    I've found some great apps to transfer & view pdf's on the iPhone (FileMagnet & Felaur PDF are outstanding!) The trouble is that none of them can display my patients' data, which is contained in form fields. I don't want to edit anything in these fields, I just want to read it.
    Why is this feature missing? It would be so cool!

    Ok; so I will start adding usage rights to my forms and using the
    script, which hopefully will help.  I'll also add in the completion
    instructions that the user should (preferably) complete and save the
    form using Adobe Reader (;)opposite of what I've been saying) or Adobe
    Acrobat Professional.  And, if they open the form through the "Preview"
    application there may be problems with their and our ability to view
    and/or print the completed form.
    On my end, with the script, I still should be able to see and print the
    form.
    Now, here is the message I received from one user which seems to add
    more confusion:
    "I have definitely found something weird....When the files are opened
    using either "Preview" or "Adobe acrobat Professional" they are both
    open and complete as seen on the screen, but when I try to print them,
    the forms will only print when I open them with Preview.  They are
    completely blank (apart from the forms themselves) when opened with
    Acrobat (despite me being able to see the completed form, which includes
    everything that I typed into the form, on the screen)."
    This is a huge problem with interactive forms...I don't understand why
    Adobe hasn't fixed it.
    Please keep any words of wisdom coming; I can't thank you enough.

  • When printing a document with form fields certain letters don't print

    Hi everyone.
    I am from Iceland and we use special letters in our language (i.e.: þ,æ,ö,ð). I have made a pdf file that has form fields in it, but when they have been filled out with our special letters, those letters do not print out correctly.
    Here is an example with my name filled out in the form field:
    When I print, this is the result:
    Can anyone help me with this issue?

    Just some thoughts: 1. Be sure the fonts are embedded in the file. 2. Print as a graphic (you may have a printer that does not have the fonts and is not getting the proper results from the computer).
