.pdf documents displaying transparent in browser

I am having a strange display glitch when I attempt to view a .pdf in Firefox 6. I believe this started happening around the time I upgraded Firefox, but I have updated the Adobe Reader plugin. I am using Windows 7.
Here is an example of what a .pdf should look like in Adobe Reader:
Here is what displays:
I have a black and white desktop background that is subtly leaking through. What is the problem here?

I'm having the exact same issue. Can't find an answer anywhere yet.

    The option under Accessibility>Setup Assistanct to uncheck the "Display PDF Document in the web browser" doesn't correctly disable Display PDF in browser when unchecked, it still defaults to opening in Internet Explorer even after restarting the browser.  Confirmed this tested agianst with IE 8, 9, 10 and 11 with the same behavior.  Moving back to Reader 11.0.10 and using this same setting works flawlessly.  Anyone else experiencing this issue?

  • Display PDF document from Servlets to browser - how 2 change the title

    Hi, need help of changing the html title when Display PDF document from Servlets to browser. By default the browser's title shows the obsolute URL where the rdf comes from (i.e. http://www.google.com/sample.pdf), because servlet responds a binary data (PDF), there seems to be no other way to change the browser's title to fit my own choice.
    Appreciate your quick help,

    You can try and check with

  • Specifying pdf document's name in browser - content-disposition problem

    Hello ,
    I want to open a PDF document in browser, which needs to have a specified filename when user tries to save it.
    My web app sends an "application/pdf" document back to the browser.
    I use the Content-Disposition HTTP header to instruct the browser to open the document inline, i.e. using the appropriate plugin, which is Adobe PDF in this case. When the user clicks Save As..., the document filename needs to be the one specified by the same HTTP header. Here is the code:
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    String contentDisposition = "inline; filename=\"filename.pdf\"";
    response.setHeader ("Content-Disposition", contentDisposition);
    response.setHeader ("Content-Length",new Long(file.length()).toString());Unfortunately this does not work for me. Document opens fine, but I can't get it to have the name I specified. The plugin uses the default name, which is the full URL of the document. I tried several combinations of HTTP headers, but neither worked. I tried putting an additional GET request parameter at the end of the URL, like ...&filename=filename.pdf , but that didn't work either.
    I tried Adobe 7.0 and 8.1.2.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks a lot!

    Thank you very much for your answer.
    Needless to say I tried opening the document in IE, FF and Chrome, and neither worked.
    I had a look at the code at your web site, and saw that you were serving files for direct download: Content-Dispositoin:attachment... .
    This works fine for me too, and the filename is recognized correctly in that case. The problem is, I want to display the PDF inline...
    My server is not configured for URL rewriting, and I would be probably quite some problem to make this app work with it, so the /filename.pdf is not an option for me.

  • Display PDF document from Servlets to browser

    Hi All,
    I am displaying a PDF document in Servlet after reading the stream. PDF size is of more than 3MB, so it takes a lot of time to get downloaded and to display on the browser.
    Is there anyway to display the initial pages to the browser (whatever data has been sent ). Can you please help me in this.
    Please treat it as urgent
    Thanks in advance,
    Purav

    I have to ask:
    Why are you trying to pump a PDF to the client? Is it stored in a database rather than to the file system? Or...are you trying to display a PDF file in HTML format so end users don't need Acrobat?
    If neither of these is the case, couldn't you just send a response.redirect("path to PDF file") and get the same result without all the headache?
    If case 1 (the PDF is stored in the database and not the filesystem), you may want to ask why? You could simply create a table that maps some document_id to a local file path. That way if you need to delete it or change it, you know what and where it is.
    If case 2 (you want to read a PDF and display as HTML to the client) you should use a parser like:

  • Links to other pdf documents displaying a specific page possible?

    Hello,
    Is Adobe Reader on Windows Tablets able to jump, for example on page 5 of another pdf document?
    I need this.
    With Adobe Reader on PC it works perfectly.
    But on Android Tablet there is no PDF Reader that i able to do this...
    Thanks for answers!

    I’m using version 11.0.10. So where the Menu resides in a folder ready to be burnt on to a CD, that same folder is where the links point to.
    Thanks

  • I get a partially transparent checkerboard pattern when I open some pdf documents in the Firefox browser..

    If the document is saved and reopened with a pdf reader, pattern is absent. How can I get rid of this annoyance ?

    Which viewer do you use to display the PDF file in Firefox?
    Is that the PDF viewer extension ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/pdfjs/]) or the Abode Reader plugin or another extension?

  • Text displays on sites like Google Spreadsheets, as well as all PDF documents is transparent, even in Safe mode.

    Recently I have noticed a very strange phenomenon in Firefox. I first noticed it in Google Spreadsheets; text does not display in the cells, but does if I bring a specific cell up for editing. I thought this limited to the new Google Spreadsheets, since the old Google Spreadsheets still function normally. It's just the new ones exhibiting this behavior.
    However, I quickly noticed that PDF files opened in Firefox exhibit the same behavior. The text is not white; it is totally transparent, like it's not being rendered at all.
    HOWEVER, if Firefox is not in focus, AND some text is selected, the text renders in the selection. Shown: http://imgur.com/bWWLvLr
    Windows cleartype does not seem to affect this, nor does it seem to be any of my addons; even in safe mode the problem persists.
    This problem is not present in Windows Internet Explorer, so it doesn't seem to be my system.
    I'd appreciate fixing this problem, as I make frequent use of Google docs.

    No, I have not. Firefox text & font options are default. Driver-wise, yes, this is up to date. I should note that in the case of Google Spreadsheets, the text appears briefly before disappearing.
    This would have led me to believe it was one of my addons, but the safe mode test dismissed that idea.

  • PDF file display on the browser

    Hi,
    I am using struts DispatchAction to display the existing file (on the server) on the web browser. My code works on FireFox and Google Chrome. But displays empty screen when executed on IE. Please refer to the Action class and kindly help me out what am I missing in the code inorder to work on all browsers.
    Page Access URL: http://localhost:8080/pdfWeb/showpdf.do?action=displayPdf
    Action Class
    public class BaseAction extends DispatchAction {
         public ActionForward displayPdf(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form,
                   HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
                   throws Exception {
         String filepath = "/test/pdf/sample.pdf";
         //For Local:
         String baseFolder = "/Users/raghu/Documents/Shared/personal/Final_Out";
         String contentType = getServlet().getServletContext().getMimeType(filepath);
         response.setContentType(contentType);
              //New
         response.setHeader("Expires", "0");
              response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0");
              response.setHeader("Pragma", "public");
    OutputStream out = response.getOutputStream();
    byte[] pdfContent = this.loadFile(baseFolder + filepath);
    out.write(pdfContent, 0, pdfContent.length);
    if (out != null) {
    out.close();
              return null;
         public static byte[] loadFile(String sourcePath) {
         byte[] output = null;
         InputStream inputStream = null;
              try {
                   inputStream = new FileInputStream(sourcePath);
                   output = readFully(inputStream);
                   if (inputStream != null) {
                        inputStream.close();
              catch(IOException ioex) {
                   //Handle Exception
              return output;
    }

    We've had a number of IE related issues displaying PDF files. The first is that IE, rather than paying much attention to Mime type, still looks for extension names in the URL. Nasty as it sounds, it's sometimes necessary to ensure that your URL ends in ".pdf". It may be enough to append "&x=.pdf" onto the URL (which should have no significant impact).
    (Another is that some versions can't write a new PDF to an existing window already showing an old one).

  • PDF ligature display delayed in browser

    I am having problems with ligatures in a pdf displaying correctly in my browser. I would love some insight as to what is causing this. Here are the details:
    PDF exported from InDesign CS3 > Uploaded to website > Click on link to open > PDF displays immediately except for the letters "ff" (Mercury Text G1).
    This occurs in IE 8, Google Chrome, and Firefox. Also, when I open the PDF directly in Adobe Acrobat there is no delay.
    Thanks!

  • PDF Document Display Issue - iPad Mini iOS 8.1

    I use my iPad heavily doing in-home sales. I rely on a combination of Box, PDF Expert, and Notability to retrieve and create information/documents.
    After updating my iPad Mini to iOS 8, I started having a display issue when trying to pull up my pricebook in front of a client from Box, where I've always pulled that document from. It showed me one page, and the rest were blank. I opened it in PDF Expert, thinking it was a Box issue - and this time the document was blurry. Being a good stubborn Irishman, I whipped out my iPhone 4 and opened the document fine in Box.
    Afterwards, I download DROPBOX, opened the file in iBooks, deleted applications and re-installed them - all with varying challenges and 0 results. The same document opens up great in my iPhone, just will no longer work correctly on my iPad Mini.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    Hey there Haparari,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like your iPad is in recovery mode after running into an issue updating it to the latest version of iOS with iTunes on your computer. Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting suggestions that’ll generally resolve that specific alert message that you’re seeing.

    Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
    Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

  • How do I close a PDF document automatically when the browser is closed?

    I have a web app writen in HTML/ASP. In order to acccess this app, our users have to enter a password and user id. Once on the main page of the app, they can click on a link which opens the reader in another window. Quite often, when finished with the app, they close the browser, but leave the reader window open (with sensitive information). It is becoming to riskly to hope that they remember to close that window also, even with visual reminders. I would like for that window to close automatically when the browser with the app is closed.
    Can this be done?

    Let me elaborate a little more on what I am trying to do.
    (1) A website (#1) is opened after entering a UID and PWD.
    (2) Within website #1, a link is clicked which opens a second web app (#2) in a seperate window using window.open().
    (3) Within website #2, a user can click on a link which opens a PDF as _SELF.
    (4) If the user:
         (a) exits out of website #1 by closing the brower
         (b) we would like to automatically close the PDF from website #2 also, as this contains sensitive information and most of the time the users are forgetting to close it

  • Uable to open PDF document in proper format on blackberry browser

    We are trying to open a document hosted in MOSS document library using blackberry browser. The document type can word, excel, power point, pdf. But when we are trying to open PDF document using blackberry browser the document is displayed as long string of text message rather than PDF document and strips all the formatting.
    But if we email the same document and try opening that in blackberry then it works fine. Please share your thoughts, how we can properly render these documents on blackberry browser. Because this is a show stopper for our solution approach in which user can open any document on his blackberry.
