PDF Documents look dull in "Preview"... Help please!

Hey,
I created some pdf format files in photoshop, and they look clear when you view them in programs like colorsync utility etc... So I merged the multiple pages I created that were pdf files with a program that merges them into different pages. So when I view them, they look dull for some reason, and the color looks faded, but when I view it in colorsync, it looks vibrant and crisp. How can I make the pdf view correct in "preview".

If you have multiple (crispy ) PDFs that you would like to merge, open them all in Preview.app.
Open the side bar. Mark multiple pages. Copy them.
Switch to the PDF you'd like to add the pages to. Insert them (cmd-v). With single pages you can also use drag and drop.
don't forget to save the changed PDF in the end.
I'm not sure if this fixes your problem. If not, maybe you could post some of the pdfs in question on the web, so I could look at the problem. I'd be interested.

Thx Eric. You've helped! When I tried to copy the words written in my e-mail to show you what I meant, I right clicked to copy, and saw an option to open the attachment, which it did! So I'm sorted thank you. Editable means a form which you can fill in and send back. Thanks again. Stephen

Pdf color looks different in preview and acrobat?

I notice that the colors in various PDF files I have look different in Preview and in Acrobat. Is there some weird color profile issue?
To be specific, I can create a PDF file in various ways, of a slide deck I originally created using Keynote. It has various different color blocks in the slides. In particular some acid green colors look very different depending on whether I open the PDF in Acrobat or in Preview.
Preview shows the colors as they were in the original keynote application. But Acrobat shows them far more muted.
I learned from another post that if I create the PDF by first saving to postscript and then creating the PDF using Acrobat, the issue seems to go away. However this is very inconvenient.
In short, it seems as though there is some peculiar difference between the way Preview and Keynote (and probably Pages ) handle color and the way Acrobat handles color.
Is there some way to fix this using some setting in one of the programs?
By the way, this is not a new problem. I noticed it with previous OS's as well as previous versions of Keynote. I am currently using the latest version of everything.

Same problem here. I was printing a PDF that my designer had sent me. Before I have always used Acrobat, but I've started using Preview in Leopard since it's faster and more powerful than before. But the colors were seriously wrong, often reversed completely. I believe this file was originally created in Illustrator.

PDF document looks different in Adobe Reader 8.1.2 than in Acrobat Standard 6.0.6

When I saved a PDF document in Acrobat Standard 6.0.6 and later opened it using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 it has stray characters (or rather little rectangles taking up the space of one text character) in different places on the page.
Opening the same document again in Acrobat verifies the document still looks like the original, but opening it again in Adobe Reader shows the stray characters or boxes.
What is causing the two programs to render the same document differently on the screen and in printouts?

I mean open first PDF file by mouse double click, then double click another PDF file, both are opened in 2 separate windows.

Start your MBP with the StartupManager:

You should see two HDD icons. Select the recovery partition (on the right).
From the 4 option menu select Disk Utility,
Select Disk Utility>First Aid, and run Verify and then Repair.
This should tell you if there are any issues with the HDD.
Do backup your data if you value it.

PDF documents appear jumbled in Preview

Hi,
When I view PDF files created on a PC, in Preview the text is replaced by jibberish and square boxs. I have been told that the font is Arial. This font is installed on my Mac.
Can I find out from Preview why it displays the PDF incorrectly or what font it thinks is missing. Are there any error reports available.?
If I select the unreadable text, copy and paste into Word, I can read the text!
It looks fine on other PCs but not other Macintoshes
Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Though it may be true that Acrobat does a better job with fonts than Preview does and it may serve as a reasonable workaround, it does not answer the actual question: How to get Arial and/or other broken fonts to display correctly in Preview.
I'm having the same problem. A group I belong to publishes a newsletter using M$ Publisher. A recent auto-upgrade resulted in several of us receiving gibberish.
We did some testing, and couldn't find a single otherwise-common font that would work across the PC/Mac divide.
So it would be nice to know if this is a problem that originates and is fixable with Preview, or if we're just out of luck with Preview.
I have tried a recent Acrobat, and the latest version does work. I don't know if the others who are experiencing this problem are viewing in Acrobat or Preview.
I have found that you can copy the gibberish text out of the PDF and paste it into another application (in my case, I tried Eudora and Word) and at least read it there. So it seems to be a problem with Preview itself.
For the record, I'm using Preview 2.1.0 (v211) on OS 10.3.9 with all relevant updates.

Hello, I was wondering if you would be able to help me out?
I am having trouble with my attached PDF fill-able form, I am creating a form that has a limit of one page so in order for more room in a certain field I have added a Hyperlink to an additional fill-able(secondary) form within the Parent document (primary fill-able form. The secondary form is inserted as an attachment into the Primary form. My problem is when I open this document up in Adobe Reader, the Primary fill-able form is savable but the attached Secondary form for which the hyperlink leads to is non-savable and is a must print only. Is there a way to make the Secondary form savable as well within the same document? or is there another way I could execute what it is I am trying to achieve?

Here is the code, thought I had put it in the first time, guess not heh. Anyway, I converted the arrayList(accountList) to a String so that I could see the that element I am trying to index is in there, which it is. I also checked the file that i'm populating the arrayList from and it also has the element in it.

PDF form text isnt extracted..HELP PLEASE!!

I have a two page PDF, and both have form fields in them so that I can enter data and print it out. The form data in page 1 automatically copies into page 2 (they are basically the same information, just on two different sizes of paper).
My goal is to create an Automator app (or some other one-click way) that lets me to print the first page out of one printer, and the second out of the other.
My problem is that it works beautifully, EXCEPT my form data isn't extracted from the original PDF. If I extract the pages manually from Acrobat or Preview, it works fine, but automator just extracts the "shell".
Here is the workflow I am using---
(a PDF file is dragged onto the icon...)
Extract even and odd pages (in separate files)
Move Finder Items (into the folder I specified)
Make Finder Item Names Sequential
.....and then I have my printer scripts (which work fine)....
Can anyone help me??

Hi,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed on your device? You can check it under Settings-->Apps. If Adobe Reader is installed on your device and still the pdfs open in some other app, then you might have chosen that app to be the default app for always opening pdfs. You can clear the defaults for that application. Just go to Settings-->App--->Polaris(or any other app where the files open)--->Clear Defaults. Next time you try to open a pdf, you will be presented with the options again. Hope this helps. Please let us know if you still face some issues.

Preview Help Please!

Ihave turned off previews, deleted all the previews in my main Library, but still everytime I have a lag problem with adjustments I view the task list, Aperture is processing previews AGAIN. Is there something I have missed?

right(option) click the cog up top by library (settings) ...
look for the maintain previews selection and uncheck it ...
check prefs command+, to make sure generate previews for new projects is off too ...
search this forum for a lot of recent posts that speak to this exact topic ...

Pdf causes problem with opening files: help, please!

The operating system on my computer is Windows xp and I use Adobe version 11.0.6.
I am having a problem that arises when I get a warning message (particularly when opening pdf or xls files): "AcroRd32.exe - Application Error: The exception unknown software exception (Oxc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x00411e0b". I am then unable to open most files - pdf, xls, Word etc. - until I switch the machine off and then on. I have discussed this problem with Microsoft, who eventually said that it seems to be caused by something related to Acrobat software.
I should be grateful for advice or help from any participant in this forum.

To test the automount hypothesis, you could create
a new user with a home directory someplace completely different and NFS-free, like /opt
useradd -m -d /opt/testuser -s /bin/bash testuser
passwd testuser
Then login to CDE as the user.
It does sound like there's something broken with $HOME/.dt

Material document skipped numbers-Critical-Critical-Help please

Hi,
I ahve observed one issue in the number range of the materila document posted with standard 50 series.
My first GR document with MVT type 101 got generated correctly with number 5000000000 & the corrosponding accounting document with also 5000000000.
However my second material document got generated with number 5000000010 & corrosponding accounting document with 5000000001.
WHy the system has skipped numbers while generating material document ?
I am using standard functionality and have not alterd anything.
Interstingly when I saw in OMBT, it showed me current number range for material document as 5000000019.
What does it means.How can I rectify this issue ?
So far I am posting in only one company code but soon I will be working in 4-5 company codes.
Please suggest why this is happening & what should be done ?
Is there any buffer got associated ?
This is very critical & i need to find out the solution soon.

Thanks for the immediate feedback but why the system behaves differently in Dev,Quality & Production.
When I checked in Dev,it has not skipped anything eventhough the settings in both are standard.
Will this create any inconsistency in production ?
Also how system starts generating the numbers sequentially later ?Is it based on your experience or any specific reason behind that.
Also I would like to know that whether system will generate documents fro 5000000001 to 500000009 or not.

PDF document looks different than when printed

With Acrobat Reader 9, we've noticed that when we print the documents, their is some sort of margin in the printed report, but when we view it on screen in Adobe Acrobat Reader 9, there is no margin.
Is there some setting in Adobe Acrobat Reader that could be causing this?

Published mp4 lags, is out of sync, and does not match the Project Preview - help please!

My Captivate 7 project includes two video demo slides with audio narration. The published mp4 video is vastly different from what it should be and how it shows in a preview in Captivate. I have tried publishing it again twice - once I changed the settings by clicking "Force republish all the slides" in the Advanced Options but the published mp4 is still messed up - the video freezes while the audio proceeds and other out of sync problems.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
