Yes,
Insert a text box or picture or whatever. Open inspector and navigate to the hyperlink tool (it's next to last). Select whatever it is you want linked. Select "Enable as Hyperlink" in the inspector. In the "Link to" box in the drop down menu, select "a file." Now navigate to the PDF file you want and select choose.

PDFs to be downloaded from iWeb

I've got a SERIOUS problem with data to be downloaded from iWeb. Setting a hyperlink to "data" and then choosing the desired file does not work, and I can't find a solution. Normally the file (A .pdf-file, created by Quark XPress, appr. 2.7 MB) should be automatically embedded when publishing to the Web (via Transmit, not to MobileMe, but to another provider). When testing the site on my Mac, download will work, as it downloads the original file from the location on my hard disk, but when published, I encounter "Error 404" (file not found). If anybody has solutions or suggestions, I'd be thankful! Could it be, that the pdf-file should be processed by Acrobat Pro before establishing a link? (I havn'tried that yet).

When you use "Link to: A file" in the link inspector the PDF is loaded with the page which is not a brilliant idea. However, it will work if you ZIP the PDF by selecting "Compress" in the the Finder/File Menu.
Better to have a download folder on your server and upload the zipped PDF. The URL is ....

When clicked in the browser, the PDF will download to the users desktop.

How can you put PDF files into iWeb so people can download and print them. (I am a teacher and want my students to be able to download my notes.)

In general, you can hyperlink a file by setting it up in iWeb Inspector's Link tab as "Link To: A File. The following video tutorial shows an example of a PDF document being linked for downloading, but it can alternatively be an MP3 or other file:

Note that you won't be able to test the hyperlink in iWeb itself — only after publishing will you be able to test the hyperlink in a browser.
A PDF hyperlinked in iWeb as "A File" will open in the current browser window/tab. At the bottom of this test page (not mine) there are a couple of text links to PDFs — click on them and see what happens...

PDF hyperlinks in iWeb

Hi people,
I'm having problems with PDF hyperlinks in iWeb (version 1.1.2)
I highlight a word, I use the inspector to enable hyperlink, I link to a PDF file, I choose a name. Simple, but it doesn't work.
I can't open/download my PDF file.. (these are files from Word saved as PDF)
My download/preview window doesn't even appear..
Can anyone help?

Yes you can, and I don't think you have to concern yourself with iDisk. Here's what iWeb's Help viewer says:
To create a hyperlink:
Select the text or object you want to turn into a hyperlink.
If the Link Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Link Inspector button.
In the Link Inspector, select “Enable as a hyperlink,” and then choose "A File" option from the Link To pop-up menu:
A File: Downloads a file to the visitor’s computer. (The file is part of your website; visitors won’t have access to your computer.)<<< </div>
...Choose your PDF file.
Note: The downloadability won't be apparant in iWeb - only when you've published the site will you be able to click on the link in a browser and test that the PDF downloads correctly.

Gee, Pat, this is a real big help.
Nobody could possibly think anyone would ask for help without first trying to fix the issue oneself. Or maybe you do. I have opened the file and looked under security. I have changed it to owner-notebook (which is what the techs called me) and clicked accept but geepers it didn't work.
Maybe someone else has an idea.

The above should be a link. At least I copied and pasted the link. I did what was stated in there. It isn't like brain surgery. But it is not working. I ended up being able to open some pdf files after transferring them from one partition category to another. I wish it was that easy as you seem to think.

Error on opening a PDF download

i am geeting the below error message on trying to open the pdf download
**"Adobe reader could not open file because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email and wasn't correctly decoded"**
however on analysis i found the following
no data on PDF because the otf internal table is empty.
actually i am converting a spool containg script into pdf download.
i am working with version 3.1i , so i dont use function module and use C function to convert spool to otf and then use convert_pdf to convert to pdf.
when i debug my call function on the do loop executes once corrcetly and on the second time of execution immediately loaded with error message 'end of data' .... and so my otf conversion is not happening . ie otf_page intertal table gets empty without appending .
sometimes i get error number 2048 ( illegal line length )
i could not locate the error , as this application was working earlier good and recently got into trouble.
pl guide if i need to check any settings.
to my knowledge i found the program , layout and spool informations are okay.
thanks in advance for your clue towards a progressive solution.

PDF download in IE 7

try to download and view the pdf in IE 7, a new page comes up but

I had the same problem and also had PDF Download 3.0.02 installed. By removing this addon I can now select a PDF document which then opens up a normal Open With/Save dialogue allowing me to open the file or save it. Hope this helps.

Issue with PDF download

I am facing problem with the PDF download option. In the answers request I have to use Pivot tables to display data and since these pivot tables do not provide the option of Table Headings, I resorted to HTML to get a similar output. The issue I am facing right now is when I print it through PDF or Powerpoint, the HTML code I have written comes up instead of the result. In the case of excel or answers, I am getting the proper output. Is there some setting I am missing?? I am using the column with the HTML coding in the Columns section of the pivot table.

This is a known issue with HTML code embedded in your request, when you try to download the same in PDF, PowerPoint it will show the code.
