Pdf drawings (from AutoCAD) have lousy performance

When viewing PDF text documents zoom/pan/leafing through pages works excellent.
I'm using a HTC Flyer and pan/zoom etc with AutoCAD-WS app (dwg format) works like a charm, but when opening the same drawing in pdf format,  Adobe Reader hangs for 10-30 secs and zoom/pan either crashes or take another 25-60 secs.
Any similar experiences?

Yes. On my existing iMac 2MB 2Mhz core duo.
I'm looking for a new computer because of this problem.  I often review drawings that are provide to me as pdf files
I checked out a new iMac 3.1 Mhz quad core i5, 4MB and it was disapointing.  I tried both Preview (the mac pdf reader) and Adobe reader and they both had problems of flickering or delays.  Surprisingly Good Reader on my iPad does a smoother but ultimately slower pan and zoom transition with a gradual increase to full resolution.
My delays are not as bad as yours and my computer does not usually crash.  It seem that there should be some hardware or software fix for this.

CAN I MAKE PDF'S FROM AUTOCAD DWGS. USING ACROBAT 9, WAS USING ACROBAT 11 AND COULD PLOT TO PDF FROM AUTOCAD MENU, DON'T HAVE THAT OPTION WITH 9

Newer versions of Acrobat's AutoCAD plug-in support newer versions of AutoCAD. Older versions of Acrobat have plug-ins that obviously don't support versions of AutoCAD newer than the Acrobat release. FYI, Acrobat 9 was released over seven years ago.

  • HOW TO CREATE PDF FILES FROM AUTOCAD 12

I'M USING ACROBAT X TO CREATE PDF FILES FROM AUTOCAD 12 DRAWINGS.  THE PROGRAM RANDOMLY LEAVES OUT TEXT AND IMAGES.  IT ALSO STRUGGLES WITH TIFF, JPEG AND PDF IMAGE FILES EMBEDDED WITHIN THE AUTOCAD DRAWING.  THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ACROBAT.  I WAS HOPING THE UPGRADE TO  X WOULD ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and am having problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.  Printing other PDF created by MS Word works well.  Had a similar problem in an earlier version of Pro.  The fix I figure out then was to print the PDF file as another PDF.  Using the second PDF to print to a plotter typically worked.  It does not work for Adoabe Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Issues Creating PDF's From AutoCAD

My company is working on standardizing how our AutoCAD drawings are created from AutoCAD. In the past each AutoCAD drawing has been printed to PDF using a third party PDF printer such as DocuPrinter or BlueBeam PDF Revu.
While those methods work, the PDF files that are created are very large, and they take a long time to produce. Our drawing packages consist of several hundred files and take a couple of hours to generate through those methods.
I am trying to use Acrobat 8.0 Professional to streamline the process, as well as increase the PDF qaulity, reduce file size, and reduce time to completion.
Acorbat seems to work great, but I have noticed the following issues. I was wondering if anyone else as seems and fixed these already.
1.) While doing Batch conversion of files to PDF within AutoCAD using the batch Convert method, every layout in each the DWG file is converted to PDF. The PDFmaker does not seem to care about my AutoCAD settings which determine which layouts to plot. Is there a way around this?
2.) Some content is missing on some drawings. On some drawings, lines and other conten is missing from the PDF. If I do a Print to Adobe PDF the content is present, but if I use the PDFmaker the content is missing.
3.) Random colors. If I use the PDFmaker, some elements on particular drawings are coming out in Either Cyan Blue or Red on the PDFs. The items are black in the original DWG files.
    4. While doing a batch conversion, there is an option to save an XML file with all of your selections. You can reuse this XML file later. The XML file contains a setting that looks like you can specifiy which layouts to convert. Does anyone know the available options that can be used here?
All of my testing has been performed using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 and AutoCAD 2007. I have also tested using AutoCAD 2009, but noticed a considerable amount of other issues.

    Thanks for your interest Bill.
I did just what you suggested. The file gets created, and when I open it in Distiller, the errors showed (log file) are the following:

    **** End of Job ****
Jojojo was the name of the file created by AdobePDF printer. The word AFIANZADORA happens to be the first text word in my document. It seems it does nothing from the beginning. Can you tell me what's happening with this information ?
And yes, I can print from any other windows application and a .pdf file is always created.

  • PDF created from AutoCAD will not print

    This one has me baffled.
I'm working with AutoCAD 2009 and Adobe Acrobat 8.  I printed 3 layouts from AutoCAD to Acrobat as a C-size sheet.  I usually merge them into one multi-page file using Acrobat.  All 3 .PDFs were created with no errors and can be viewed on the screen.
I went to print this 3 page file to an HP DesignJet 500.  The first 2 pages printed fine, but page 3 would not print.
So I went to the original individual file for the missing page, opened it in Acrobat - it also would not print to the HP 500.  BUT - it WOULD print to my HP 2800 on an A-size (letter) sheet.
All three pages came from the same AutoCAD file.  All 3 .PDFs were created using the same settings.  Individually, only the first 2 will print to the HP 500.
I tired recreating the third file with a different file name.  Looks fine on the screen, yet when I try to print it, it does not get to the printer driver.
Yes, I have re-booted my system.  No difference.  Rebooted again and recreated the document - no change.
I figure there has to be some quirky character or entity in my AutoCAD layout that is tripping up the printer driver for the HP 500.  This is my first encounter with this kind of problem.  And yes, I do have the latest HP 500 driver installed and have created and printed 100s of AutoCAD drawings in this manner.
BTW, I'm running WIndows XP Pro.

    Michael,
I have about 19GB of free space on drive C: - your tip about "print as image" did permit the file to print to the HP 500.  This DesignJet is not a PS or PCL printer.
I've never encountered this kind of problem before.  This particular AutoCAD layout has a fair amount (but not a lot) of text that would no doubt be converted to a raster image (as it is not a system font) when processed by Acrobat during .PDF creation.
My drive D: has much more free space - is there a way of directing the printer driver to store its output to that drive?
Thanks for the tip - at least I know what to do the next time I'm up against the clock trying to get the work out.

  • PDF created from AutoCAD Electrical is not searchable due to "Simplex font", how to make it searchable

We have a set of electrical drawings created by AutoCAD Electrical using "Simplex" font. They have no problem being displayed properly but the texts are not selectable or searchable. I've tested to re-draw part of the drawings in more common font such as "Arial" and then the texts will be selectable and searchable, so I believe the font is the key to my problem and solution. My question is, is there a way that I can embed certain font such as "Simplex" into Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to make the original drawings selectable and searchable? Because it is not practical to re-draw all the drawings especially sometimes the drawing PDFs are provided by our customers. Hope I've described my need clearly. Thank you in advance for any help.

I would first check to see what fonts are embedded if any. Use ctrl-D and check the font tab.

  • PDF's from AutoCAD with Excel tables

I have been trying to plot an excel spreadsheet within LT2009. I am using "Adobe PDF" driver, and end up with extra lines running vertically through the excel table (see column 9 in image below).
I am convinced that it is an Adobe driver issue as it doesn't happen with Autocad's dwg to pdf driver. And I would use the ACAD driver but it won't plot a true A3 size (large marging and cuts off my border)..
Using Autocad LT2009, Acrobat 9 Pro and MS Office 2010.
    Would appreciate any insight.
    Thanks
    Holly

    Good day,
Do you have Adobe Acrobat X Professional installed?  PDFMaker, the Adobe PDF icon you were referring to, will install into AutoCad 2008 and later with Acrobat X  Converting via PDFMaker should preserve your layers.

  • Merge layers in pdf printed from AutoCAD

I create a .net automation application to print to pdf with layers. There are more 30+ layers in the drawing, I like to have the layer information in the pdf file but like to merge them to a couple: e.g.
    PDF Layer 1 show AutoCAD Layer A1, A2, A3, ...,
    PDF Layer 2 show AutoCAD Layer B1, B2, B3, ...,
    PDF Layer 3 show AutoCAD Layer C1, C2, C3, ...,
I think there will be 3 solution here:
    a) merge them at the time of AutoCAD printing
    b) merge layer in pdf
    c) create bookmark in pdf
any one of them will solve my problem. I have used iTestSharp to generate PDF file, merge PDF files but cannot find a solution for this. How I can do it programmically?
Thank you so much and Happy New Year

  • Why is a .pdf saved from AutoCAd Lt 2015 showing incorrect lineweights?

I recently downloaded Adobe Reader X1 and I saved a drawing  from AutoCAdLT 2015 as a .pdf. When I view it the lineweights
are not the same @as the drawing. I emailed the drawing to someone who said that the lineweights were o.k. when he viewed it.
Does anyone know what is causing this problem that I am not viewing the drawing correctly?

There are a couple other posts here with the same issue. You may want to do a forum search on the topic to see if there are any solutions. Also, try searching over in the OTHER Adobe run Photoshop forum,  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family to see if this has been brought up.
I have seen this when appear when a pdf is being rendered, but not it was not permanent.

  • Printing PDF's from Autocad, but Unable to create PDF's with layers

I need to create PDF's where I can layer voice, data, and wireless coverage areas on seperate layers, but but have been unable to figure out how to do so. I can export and plot pdf's, but there isn't an option for creating layers, at least that i can find. I have researched and found that there should be some sort of create Adobe PDF button, but no such button seems to exist. I would really appreciate any insight that anyone could give me. Thanks!

    Hi Nikoo,
Are you opening the PDF files in Reader or Acrobat (or in a web browser)? If you open in Reader, there are different options on the Tools panel from what you see in Acrobat. If you need to edit a PDF file, make sure that you open it Acrobat.

  • PDF link to AutoCAD

I work in AutoCAD everyday and I am trying to put together a standards booklet that would include a bunch of different detail drawings from autocad in one big book.  I know how to make my autocad drawing into a pdf but is there a way to take the pdf and link it to autocad so all I have to do is click on the drawing in the pdf and it will open my drawing up in CAD?  I know that this can be done because my last firm did this, I just don't know how.

Have you tried using the link tool?
Draw a box around where you want the link and choose "Open a file" in the create link dialog.
