PDF DRM Solution

Hello I created an ebook in pdf format. I want to distribute the pdf files using cd. What can I do to prevent illegal coping of ebooks.
My idea is to encrypt the pdf file.
A plugin will required to open and view the file. and without plugin installed user can not view the file in adobe reader.
Create a plugin to decrypt the file. This plugin will only be installed once and not copyable.
any solution or some new idea ?

Really leave them unencrypted.
Or use Adobes solution.
What you are suggesting sounds like you would supply a viewer application and register to a "PDFexcrypted" extension, not a plugin of any kind.
Now solutions already exist by 3rd parties that do that. But then you are not supplying PDFs, but some other format, so what about people who want to view the document on an ebook reader? Or blackberry, or what have your They can't.
Plus anything that involves messing about with the PDF format is pain.
What ever you do I WILL be able to copy it. Really, write an application that reads in an encrypted file. Then I could decompile the application, grab the key and the decrypt method and I have a decrypted PDF.
Scrap PDF and use a custom format and encrypt that based on some magic stored on the CD – Just make a bit-for-bit direct copy of the CD, and use your viewer application.
Or use print screen (even if you disable this, I can just use a VMWare box and print screen that).
You CAN NOT protect content. You can make it harder to copy, but is your content really worth the cost (and writing your own will cost a lot)? Given once it is copied, a Joe User will just grab the encryption-free version from a friendly bit torrent site?

  • Simplified DRM Solution

I am looking for a simple digital rights management solution. Is there a  way to tie a PDF document to a specified computer so another computer  may not open the file?
The solution does not have to be foolproof, just a preventative  roadblock to help stop people from sharing the file (passwords wont work  because users will simply share passwords). Also, functionality of  Reader 10 must be preserved.
    I found a solution here:
    http://www.armjisoft.com/?page=pdfownerguard
The server edition satisfies my needs but as you can see it is $5,000.
The solution also needs to be scalable to a large amount of PDFs being sold.
    Please help,
    ThankyouThankyouThankyou!

I just replied to your question over at acrobatusers: http://acrobatusers.com/forum/security/pdf-security-simple-drm-solution#comment-81849

  • OT: DRM solution

    Hey there,
A client of mine is creating a specific training software and
    is selling
that over his website. He currently has a system in place
    where he uses
encrypted WMV files (essentially screen captions with a voice
    over)
which can only be played if the client downloads a license.
    There is no
time limited on the license, the videos are only playable on
    the
computer that has been used to purchase the license.
My client is dealing with a lot of mid size companies which
    purchase
typically more than one license, so he would like to keep it
    that way.
The only issue is that this systems uses Microsoft' DRM and
    relies
heavily in IE and Windows Media Player and this is where the
    problem
comes in. Very often the Media Player installation seems
    corrupted and
the only solution to get those videos to play is to reinstall
    the whole
    player... yes, major pain.
And on top of that the whole license delivery process is so
    complicated
that it can be troubleshooted purely on a case to case base.
So I was wondering if any of you had experiences with a
    similar system
and if there is a better solution to that. I was thinking
    more in terms
of using Flash, as somehow I think it is more reliable then
    the MP.
Currently Flash itself does not offer any DRM specificly, but
    then I
read that you could embed the Flash in a PDF.
    Any ideas/experiences...

    > I agree that it is a "nasty" thing in itself, which I
    also mentioned to my
    > client... But that's the way he wants to go...
Well, I'd just tell them that DRM is what it is. No matter
    which route you
go, there will be issues with some customers not being able
    to see it,
support pains/costs to help other customers, and overhead
    with developing
    and maintaining the DRM.
They really need to look at it from a business POV. If they
    removed the DRM,
would they save/make more or less money?
A lot of people THINK DRM is going to help, but never really
    analyze the
situation to see if it really does.
If you take the big examples (RIAA and MPAA) DRM certainly
    hasn't reduced
file sharing...the very thing they wanted to reduce by
    enacting DRM.

  • PDF Signing Solution

Clients want simple solutions; moreover many are not IT lovers and just want things to work. We send out a lot of PDF’s that need signing. EchoSign far too complicated. Most clients will be running Acrobat reader on a PC or hand held device. What is the best and easiest method to embed an ability for a recipient of a PDF using Reader to sign? If you start using JavaScript popups etc then they often do not function on mobile devices. Is there are way of embedding something that will allow the recipient to see that they have been asked to sign and when they click to sign it confirms they have accepted the document which they can then email back?

    Hi,
    The short answer is no.
The signature status only applies to the electronic version of the file. Once the file is printed we have no way to test if the contents on the printed page are the same contents that were signed, thus we suppress adding the signature status to the printed output.

  • Need RTF PDF API solution and not Online Solution

    Greetings,
I need to build a solution which runs on a Win2008 R2 64 bit OS.
I have literally millions of documents in my database as RichText data that I need to create PDF's for.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

We do support IE 7/8/9 and 10, this should be working in all...
Are the computers all on the same network?
On the machines where you cannot save the response as PDF can you "save/export" anything else?  Can you try, from the File menu "Export Responses" and see if you can export an Excel file of the responses?  Can you try an alternative web browser (Firefox or Chrome) on the machine/s that are not working?
When it does not work you are seeing a progress bar that never completes?  When you cancel that and try again you have the same result?
    Thanks,

  • Elimination of COPY Stamp, in particular Canon product manuals in PDF format - solution.

As mentioned elsewhere in these forums, for some unknown reason Canon put the highest level of security on their manuals. The effect of this is that when it is printed, or copied, (or input to other programs) or transferred to a Pocket PC / PDA, a large "COPY" is stamped over the page. Also Opacity is such that much of the manual is unreadable.
From what I've read on various forum's this seems to be a Solution.
    - Remove the security. There are various products out there including "PDF Password Remover".
    - (This might not be needed) Open in Acrobat > Manage Security Policies and remove them.
    - Document > Watermark > Remove.
    - Someone also mentioned mentioned "FORM FIELDS", but I don't think that affects the Canon manuals.
    - Complain to Canon and ask for a version for Pocket PC/ PDA etc.

You don't need remove the security when printing is allowed. Create a PostScript file from the document, change the PostScript file and create a new PDF document.

  • Can´t open dmg or PDF files solution!

For a long time I couldn´t download dmg files or open PDF´s in Safari, every time when I tried to open or download a file Safari just opend a black screen and nothing else happend!
However..... I found a very simple solution which helped to solve both problems (Safari 5.1)
    Step 1:      Open FINDER -> Macintosh HD -> Libary -> Internet Plug-Ins
Step 2:      Transfer "ALL" files to your desktop! (do not just copy!!!)
Step 3:     Open Safari and empty cache and close Safari
Step 4:     Reopen Safari and try to open a PDF file or to download a dmg file ( at this point it was already working for me again!)
Step 5:     Transfer files from Desktop back to FINDER -> Macintosh HD -> Libary -> Internet Plug-Ins
    FINISH!!!!
If you experience any trouble again after Transfering the files back start again by step one and move at Step 5 always just one file to identify the file which seems to create the trouble!
I hope this simple steps helps for you guys as well

I believe the DRM you're discussing is the eBook Adobe DRM - different than Primetime DRM.
    This isn't the right forum.
You may want to post here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_digital_editions
... Or post on the ibs.it support website with this problem to see if it's their iOS Leggo IBS application causing the problem.

  • Keynote - files too big to email/share, looking for PDF resolution solution

Has anyone worked out how to change a keynote presentation PDF resolution when preparing for sharing? The file I get is too big to email (6 photos gave me 55mb) as it appears to retain the input resolution of the embedded photos?

If using Acrobat 9 Go To Document>Reduce File size.
If Using Acrobat X or XI to tot he tools sidebar and use Optimize for Web Distribution.
If you do not want to fool witht he pdf in any way then download Adobe Send Now app and use their free service or subscribe for a year for a whopping $29.95.
The free version allows you to upload files upt to 500MB there may be limitis to how many files you can upload it sends an e-mail to the parties you want to download the files and they simply follow the link and it downloads.
The paid version allows you to upload files as large as 2 GB and gives you 20GB of storage. I immediately myself purchased the paid version.
If you hppen to upgrade to the cloud then you get the paid version free.

  • Playbook - best eBook DRM solution please

We have a Sony eReader, and I would very much like to share the books. What is the best eBook option for the Playbook? Can I access Adobe DRM epub books?

So is this too tricky at the moment?
    Kobo seems to have it.
Overdrive has it for library downloads.
Can one use an android app?
    Surely this is key functionality?

  • Solution for Prefilling PDF data

I called and spoke to a sales associate asking about LiveCycle for use to prefill pdf data for one of our large customers.  He told me the cost was very high for LiveCycle and to come and ask here on what to user.  I am familiar with now unsupported pdf-fdf solution but I am wondering if there is another solution that I'm unaware of.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Yeah, I have looked at the FDF toolkit, and we've used it before, but I'm wondering if there are other solutions available.  My company is a commercial printer so we are familiar with vdp programming, but I'm not very up to date on what the successor to the FDF Toolkit is.  Primarily I required something with a tighter and more secure integration than FDF allows.
Client produces many enrollment forms that we prepulate dynamically using VIPP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_Data_Intelligent_Postscript_Printware) when we recieve the print requests.  They pay us for the programming to do this and it gets pretty high as we have to manually get the coordinates of each field, in each page of the print file that we need to populate and then program them into our templates using VIPP.  They make edits to their forms every quarter and each form that has a change that moves as much as a line feed has to be completely recoded in VIPP.  We want to reach a solution where they can have pdf, or web form of some sort on our end and submit the data to us to populate and print high res.  Lower cost all around but consistent, professional output.
    Thanks in advance.

  • DRM in PDFs?

    Hi,
Is it possible to add rights management to a PDF? Maybe some way of getting the PDF to report back to a server when it's opened, and check if the document is copyright protected?
I'm thinking of situations where you might have copyright material, that you would sell, and you don't want people to distribute the document to others, via file sharing sites or whatever, after they've purchased it?
If it is possible, what kind of information can be sent back to the DRM server? Username, IP Address etc?
    Thanks
    Ben

I've had a look around, and it looks like Adobe Content Server 4 deals with PDF DRM.
I'm just wondering, how does the end user deal with PDFs that have DRM on them? What do they see? Do they need any extra plugins? Can they tell it has DRM protection?
    Thanks
    Ben

  • .PDF document save/print/copy restriction

We are developing a health care based Application using ASP.NET technology.
Our requirement is to allow or restrict  all the way for - 'Saving/Printing/copying'  a .pdf document through our Application based on given permission to logged in user. The solution shall be compatible with
    IE
    Mozila
    Safari
    Chrome Browsers
    Windows OS
    MAC OS
    and IPad..

You may limit printing with Acrobat security. Some software respects this.
    Similarly you may limit copy/paste.
To prevent saving and copying PDF files is absolutely impossible.
You almost certainly need to look at a DRM solution (so that unauthorized copies are useless). Whether you can find one compatible with iPad is likely to be the biggest challenge, since DRM plug-ins cannot be written for iPad.

  • Help with only allowing someone to fill or edit a pdf form twice

I need to make a pdf form. This form I would like the customer to only be able to fill it out and save it one time. No printing. The form will be on a usb drive. I then need the same thing but be able to fill or edit the form twice and five times. But still no printing at all. I need to sell a package that would allow me to unlock the file if the customer pays for an upgrade of 1, 2 or 5 more times to edit the file. Is there a way to do this???? Any help would be great.. Please and thank you.

  • Protecting PDFs from Unlicensed Sharing

    Hi all,
I'm aware Acrobat has many features around DRM and protecting documents from unlicensed usage. However, I want to know how scalable this is...for instance, if I'm selling training materials in PDF format, and someone purchases the materials to use for "20 users", are Acrobat's features alone sufficient to prevent this person from giving the materials to 30 users?
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated!
    Best,
    Adam

Acrobat doesn't have that type of ability at all. The best you can do is to explore the security settings available under File>Properties>Security. Even then keep in mind that it's way easy to get around Adobe security.
What you need is a server side DRM solution.
