Pdf email attachments - error msg after download "not decoding" - creating DWORD key did NOT work!

I went to REGEDIT and installed the DWORD key as suggested by ADOBE to fix problem created by security update & it did NOT work!! Attempting to save then open the files gives same error msg. I sent multiple emails from a book scanner at the library with pdf files in quick and searchable formats & neither will open! Someone else that I forwarded the email to was able to open with no problem & he is running version 10. There is no option to load earlier versions!!!! I am running version 11 on Windows XP.

I scanned hundreds of pages using a book scanner @ the law library - the USB port was not working so I had to choose the send by email attachment option. Received 30 emails & NONE (so far) of the pdf attachments will open - the error msg states "Reader could not open "doc" because it is either not a supported file or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I forwarded 2 emails to someone else running version 10 - he had no prob opening from email (I have version 11 & then I also reinstalled 9.5 & STILL getting the same error msg)! Used someone elses's computer who is running version 10 & same error msg. Each time I try a fix I then go to a 'new' unopened email & attempt to open an attachment that hasn't been previously downloaded. Adobe supposedly has a fix - from Regedit - create DWORD key @ HKCU/Adobe/Reader/11/AV General "bValidateBytesBeforeHeader" - I did that & restarted computer each time I installed etc - still NO solution! So unless you have another idea I have a THIRD 6 hour roundtrip to the Law Library in KC in my near future!

Error msg after downloading pics to pc

I transferred photos from a canon camera and after which i clicked on the image, it says that "To make a JPEG copy of this photo that you can edit with photo gallery, Click Make Copy." and then the picture doesn't show up. Afterwards if I click on the exit sign, it reads, "Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video. The file format is not supported, or you do't have the latest updates to photo gallery. While downloading, I can see the pictures. But when it is finished and try to click on any of them, it will not show up. How can I save the pictures to my pc? I use windows, I downloaded the pictures thru card reader in my laptop as well as I tried via USB but both produced same results.

Apple includes the Camera RAW support directly in the operating system -- opening photos (even RAW formats) generally "just works" using any Apple software. They do this because they have several different apps that need to be able to open photos so it's easier to include the functionality once (at the OS level) rather than have to re-write the support for each individual app.
On Windows, however... RAW support isn't just included, but Microsoft does offer an optional (free) download called the "Microsoft Camera Codec Pack". See: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
RAW is more of a concept than a specific format. Each camera actually has a slightly different RAW format. This means that depending on which camera your sister-in-law happens to own, this may or may not support that camera. The last update to it was July of 2013. As I scan the list of supported models, the only camera I can see which is NOT on the list is the 70D (but that's the newest Canon model so it's probably just a matter of time before they add that one too.)
Most people on Windows don't need to install this because Windows users generally install a photo processing app that already maintains RAW support for various cameras... for example Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, or Photoshop Elements gets RAW support from Adobe. But those programs are not free (Photoshop Elements is generally less than $100).

Old version of FF died, downloaded new, would not launch, created new profile (did NOT show any old profiles, did NOT delete an old profile). Looked for old profile, none seem to exist. Nothing in library folder. Help. Need those bookmarks back!

managed to open the terminal app, and create a new profile. Went looking for older profile and ...nothing. there is NO firefox/mozilla folder in library/application support. I searched for "firefox" on the hd and didnt recognize anything that could/would be the profile folder. i did search my trash as well. help please :-(

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
* Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
* Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.

Originally we were getting the error that the phone could not connect. Then, after deleting the account multiple times and re-adding it again, the error message CHANGED to having to log in to Yahoo and authorize.
When we went to Yahoo in a regular browser and logged in there was an alert telling us about connection attempts so it disabled mobile/iphone connectivity. It required that we change our password FIRST.
Then, we went in to Manage Apps and Webpages and saw that iPhone was not there but Facebook was.
After all of this went back to the phone and deleted then re-added the account again and SUCCESS!
It now also shows up on the Yahoo Manage Apps and Webpages.

Can't open PDF email attachments from mail app. (iOS7, iPad2)

Since upgrading to iOS7 I cannot open PDF email attachments from the "Mail" app. The attachment appears as a "tap to download" icon, after downloading it appears as an image of the first page of the PDF. An extended press of the PDF image results in "save image" and "copy" options, but no "open in" option.
I have tried closing and re-opening mail, restarting the iPad, several different attachments. Still no "Open in" option.
Any help with this?

I work in a support organization and we've seen variations of this issue develop on various iphones and ipads with ios7. Oddly, not everyone is experiencing this, just some people.
In my own case, I simply downloaded Acrobat Reader for free and can read the things fine.
We use an exchange activesync email server and when each email comes in it indicates at the very bottom that it has been downloaded as plain text and to click to download the entire message. I've tried clicking to download and not clicking and I can read the PDF either way.
In my own case I can view PDF files and/or also save them by pressing and holding the icon of the PDF in the email.
The other thing one of our end users noticed: if she emailed the PDF directly to her iPhone5 and iPad it would not be readable but if she forwarded it to her offsite Yahoo account and then forward to her corporate email it would open.
I think there's definetely something going on with the formatting of the PDF (was it created by a true Adobe PDF distiller or one of the many clones?), what email application attached it? (Outlook, Eudora, IOS Mail, etc) and how many PDF reading apps are on your IOS devices?
For instance I have the default PDF reader, iBooks, Kindle, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and there may be others that I don't even know has PDF capability. Only Apple probably has a good idea of how many apps utilize this.

I'm not sure from your description if you're having the same problem I was having.
In my case, PDF attachments would only display as a single image of the first page of the PDF.
The only option I had was to Copy or Save the image. I couldn't open a preview of the full PDF in Mail or tap to 'Open in...' a different app.
Turns out that I had too many apps on my iPhone that can read PDFs, for example, Dropbox, Evernote, iBooks, Kindle, etc. even a Canon app for remote printing.
Removing one of them fixed the issue for me.
I remember this happening before and seeing other threads about this, so I don't think it's specific to iOS 7.
Give it a go and see if it fixes your problem. Hope it helps.

Problem opening Microsoft Office & PDF Email attachments

Just got a Motorola Razr. Having a problem opening Microsoft Office (e.g. Work, Excel) and PDF Email attachments. Receive message "winmail.dat Unsupported file type". Can open jpg files. I have Quick Office, which is suppose to enable you to do this, but does not seem to make a difference. Wonder if it is an Android 2.3.5 issue. I used to have a Blackberry and this was not an issue. This is a showstopper for me and I will return the phone if I can't read Microsoft Office and PDF files attached to emails. My email server / client is Verizon.
I would appreciate any recommendations.

The problem sounded familiar, and it's one that's been around for a long, long time. I don't think it's a Razr problem, or a Droid problem, but it is about email clients. I've had similar issues with email on computers.
The problem starts with Outlook's RTF format. It saves the document's formatting info (bold, underline, etc.) and other info in the winmail.dat file, and some email clients simply can't decode it.
The sender can change the format of what they're sending, though, and I believe that the most recent versions of Outlook can change those format setttings on a person-by-person basis (don't want to start a rumor here because I could be wrong about that).
Just copy and paste the error message into Google (or your preferred search engine, and you'll see some info that might be helpful.

This happened to me today as well post installing the latest version of itunes. I did a search on google for the error and came across a recommendation to :
Note: Start Windows in Safe Mode to complete any of the following steps if you're unable to access Windows normally due to the msvcr80.dll error.
If, and only if, you're receiving the msvcr80.dll is missing error when you open Apple iTunes, do the following: (skip this step if your msvcr80.dll error is occurring with a different program)
Uninstall from Windows the following five programs in this order: iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour, and finally Apple Application Support. If you have iCloud, remove it as well.
Uninstalling these programs in Windows is done from an applet in Control Panel called Programs & Features (in Windows 8, 7, or Vista) or Add or Remove Programs (in Windows XP).
Note: Songs and playlists in iTunes will not be removed when you uninstall the iTunes program or any of the other, already-mentioned Apple programs. If you'd still like to back them up, they're usually located in the My Music folder in Windows.
Download the latest version of iTunes from Appleand note the location you're saving it to so you can find it once it's done.
Run the iTunes installation as an administrator. If you're not sure how to do that, see How Do I Open an Elevated Command Prompt? for help. That procedure shows you how to open the Command Prompt program as an administrator, but the steps are essentially the same for anything, including the iTunes installation package you just downloaded.
A general overview of removing and reinstalling iTunes can also be found here on Apple's site but the above procedure seems to work better in this particular situation.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
