PDF Emergency!

Hello all,
A little bit of background: I handle the communication/marketing for a NPO with a tiny budget.  Decided an e-newsletter would be a great idea to rally up some of the local business owners and maybe generate some donations.  I finished a GREAT interactive design (well, I'm no design professional but I think it's pretty spiffy), with show/hide rollover effects and hyperlinks and what-nots.
So, got to the next step--export to PDF.  Other than color management issues, everything is A-ok.
EXCEPT...in order to be sure everyone who receives the email looks at it, I want the PDF newsletter to show in the email viewing pane rather than as a downloadable attachment.  I've been told by two of my IT friends that it's impossible.
A) somebody PLEASE tell me if there's a way to export it from InDesign into an extension that makes this viewing option possible.
B) if it is not, what do I need to do?  Somebody suggested using MS Word...vomit...I certainly hope I don't have to resort to such desperate measures.
Thank you for any help you can offer!!!

I don't see how you can have any control whatsoever over your readership's mail clients. That is the determining factor here, not anything about InDesign or the PDFs you are making. People might read your email with Outlook, Gmail, Thunderbird, Groupwise... you have no control here.

  • PDF emergency! Need to get PDF out of iBooks

A PDF from an outlook account was saved to iBooks, and now that email is lost (deleted?). The PDF is integral to a court case that's happening at 8am (central) tomorrow (monday, july 19th).
How can we get this PDF out of iBooks and onto a computer? iTunes says it will erase the content on the iPhone if we try and sync, and I don't see any way to export the PDF from iBooks.app.

From the iTunes Library, select Books. Find and select your PDF and drag it to the desktop.

  • How can I restore proper PDF exports from InDesign CS3 or CS5 in Snow Leopard?

I had no problems exporting PDFs from InDesign CS3 (on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) until this past weekend, when all the fonts appeared bitmapped or thin and raggedy, and the images lost some color depth and contrast. When I copied the InDesign document to my MacBook Pro laptop, also running 10.6.4, the PDF emerged with its original quality. Calls to Adobe support referred me to documents concerning incompatibilities between InDesign and Snow Leopard. One of these documents was several pages long, but I could not print it from the Adobe website to my HP All-In-One Officejet, because one-third of the document was hidden under a white panel. This makes the document impractical for troubleshooting, because I don't have enough screen real estate (even on a 23-inch display) to keep the document open along with all the pages and dialogue boxes needed for reference. Back to phone and chat support, I was advised to upgrade my Creative Suite Premium CS3 to CS5 ($800!!!) and purchase the latest Acrobat Pro upgrade ($200), with no guarantee that this $1,000 cost would actually solve the problem. I did download the trial version of InDesign CS5, and it did NOT solve the problem. I'm also concerned that the problem did not exist until last weekend. Prior to that, my CS3 and Snow Leopard combination worked just fine. I then checked the forums and was dismayed at the variety of problems associated with PDF files, for which there seems to be no general fix. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of ads I'm supposed to be preparing and emailing as PDF proofs to businesses around the country. I have two books of 120 and 256 pages that need to be submitted to printers in PDF format with all kinds of fonts and image files belonging to my clients. The last time I submitted a book to a printer via email, the job went perfectly. This time, and next, it's obvious I won't be able to send PDFs at all! If that's the case, my 27-year-old directory business will be unable to absorb the expenses necessary to start all over with new computers and software, and I will be out of business. Period. So-- does anyone have a way to fix this? I would surely be grateful.
    David Henderson

I'm on a local network, built on Apple's Airport Extreme. but I'm the only computer user on it. I use it for transferring files between the desktop computer (Apple Mac Pro) and laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) and, occasionally, to print from the laptop to a Xerox Phaser printer.
About a year ago, I added an Apple Airport Express to the network, allowing me to play iTunes music from the laptop through a Panasonic BluRay player connected to a home theatre sound system. No problems of this nature appeared with that installation.
About four months ago, we connected a DirecTV satellite receiver system to the D-Link router that carries wired network service from the desktop computer to the Xerox printer. The satellite TV system includes a series of modems that allows DVR recordings to be accessed and played from any of the TVs in the house. (As you would now perceive, I run my publishing business from my home). However, this set-up has been functioning for about four months, and I did not encounter the PDF problem until last weekend.
    Now -- about the fonts.
Because of the many ads that I publish from various sponsors, it is possible that different versions of the same fonts have invaded my system. In the "missing font" alerts I get, InDesign frequently is seeking TT or T1 versions, which I replace with Adobe fonts when possible. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium included a fairly large collection, which it keeps in one folder.  The Apple OS also includes a bunch in a separate font management folder; and there are carry-over fonts that came with the business when I acquired it 10 years ago. Some of those fonts may go back 25 years to the book's inception. However, in the past several years, I have generally rebuilt all the ads that appear in my publications, substituting newer versions of fonts. Hence, the preflight program has been able to locate and include all the necessary fonts in the packages that go to the printers.
Once again, I have been able to export good PDF files for all the varieties of ads and books included in my system, until last weekend. One of the documents is built entirely with Helvetica Narrow, for which I have only one version.. Another document consists mainly of Times, and there are 3 or 4 versions of that font in the system; but the version contained in the document has not changed from when it exported properly.
So... I guess the complexities involved in the network and/or fonts could be part of the problem, as you suggest, but golly -- I hope not. The last thing I want to do is disrupt and rebuild the network or font collections. The font situation especially would set back production for months if not years, because so many individual ads and off-site clients would be involved in the process.
I'm sorry if I provided more details than you expected. I didn't mean to take so much of your time.
    Thank you.

  • I have an emergency- Trying to convert a PSB file to a PDF files size is 3.58 GB - Please help

I have a few files that I need to make ASAP into banners that are 19ft x 15ft and many other sizes.  I can only change into a RAW photoshop or a tiff.  I tried saving into a tiff then converting but nothing is working.
I was also going to try to convert into a AI program then into a vector but with no luck.  Anyone can please help Thank you

I may not quite follow. But then you don’t really provide a lot of onformation about the file in question.
Even if Photoshop should not allow forsaving a pdf if you can save a tiff you should be able load that into a layout application and export/save a odf from there.

  • Links in PDF no longer work after optimizing file

    Hi,
I created a PDF file that is about 5.50 MB that needs to be reduced in size.  This PDF file was orginally created in Microsoft Word
with a linkable Table of Contents and links inside the document to websites.
When I create a PDF from this Word file in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, the links work as they should.  However, the file size is too big for reasons I won't get into.
I read that a trick to reducing the file size is to try have Adobe try to print the newly created PDF document (by going to file -> print -> and clicking 'OK,' even though my computer is not connected to a printer).  After Adobe tries to print the entire document, I click 'save as,' and sure enough, it successfully reduces the file size from about 5.50 MB to about 3.80MB without losing any quality.  That solved my problem of the file size, but for some bizarre reason, it created a new problem with the PDF document.
For some reason, after I shrink the PDF file size by printing the file, the linkable Table of Contents and the http links throughout the document no longer work in Adobe Reader or even in Adobe Acrobat X Pro, which created the PDF.  The links in the PDF document still appear as links, but when the 'hand' hovers over them, it doesn't change to an arrow.  And when you try to click them, nothing happens.
Why is this?  Is there some setting in 'Print PDF document' that is causing the links to be disabled?  How do I get the PDF links to work as they normally do?
I haven't changed any of the default settings in the PDF printer.  When the print box pops up, I just click 'OK.'  It then tries to print the entire PDF document and then when it is completed, I just save as.  Not sure what it would then disable the links.
    Thanks.
BTW, I have tried the optimizing feature to reduce the PDF file size, and it ruins the quality of this document.  The print PDF file trick works like a charm except for it disabling the links.  I'd like to figure out why it is doing this and that would solve the problem.

Actually on Mac two forms will transfer
    URL written as http://www.jqSmith_anywhere.usa
    mailto:[email protected]
and Only if you go through File Menu > Print> Pdf> Adobe PDF
or save document and Drop on The Acrobat application icon in the Dock. (doing this way though you have to wait possibly several minutes.)
And only only with acrobat X and XI.
The issue is when in Word you have higlighted a word, Pphrase or sentence the gone to Insert menu > URL the type in URL or Mailto. Then saved. This is a Minor issue that adode fixed if adobe desired to. It has taken adobe 15 years just fix so you could type in URL and mailto directly. It will likely tthem another 15 to get the other way fixed. They would rather Blame Microsoft and Apple.  rather than hunker down and fix the problem. Thevisual part or vdeo is based on PDF standard Adobe re;ease to general Public whenactobat first came out anew features emerge. And The code for Making Links is identical in both the Windows version and the Mac version. a saved version of the PDF on Mac when opend by the PDF shows the links. If Opened in Apple's Pages just opened the links are there. If doing nothing to the pages file and its exported back to Word (or Excel if its an excel file) the made a PDF. all types of links will be hot. If the File from Pages, or exporte to any of the OpenOffice version and aDF is created the PDF works. So iApple is taken out of the equation.  its squarely between MS and Adobe. And Adobe gets along with no one. They are arogant and an island to themselves, cooperating with no one.

  • Windows 8.1: Scan to pdf with Epson WF 3520?

I previously ran an HP laptop and scanned multiple page documents to a single file in pdf format on Epson printers.
Recently I purchased a new laptop with Windows 8.1. Scanning to pdf no longer possible, and multiple sheets in the document feeder now emerge as individual png files. How can I get back to scanning to a single pdf?

    Hi,
Did you install the latest driver update? I found an FAQ at Epson official site that about Program Compatibility with Windows 8.1. You can take it as reference to upgrade printer driver:

  • Best practice export PDFs for Pad viewing?

    Have an emergency question here:
A client has asked us to find out what export settings our former graphic designer used when he took copies of the client's InDesign files and exported PDF files that were higher quality than those exported by the client's in-house designer. Our designer has since moved to another state.
So, I'm asking here for advice we can relay to the client. His large job is due tomorrow. Although we'll take the PDFs and output them for Web use, this is not the usual stripped-down to basics situation. The results will have to look good on an iPad first of all (also on on Web pages), which means the PDFs we start from need to be higher quality than those usually destined for Web use. The entire publication is photo-intensive with many people pictures where clean appearance is important. Of course the pages also contain text, so that has to be crisp as well.
As I said, we lost our InDesign guru, and the client's designer is being faced with a new challenge. The client is calling me and asking How soon? How soon?
    Help? Thanks in advance.

Steve: If these are bitmaps inside a PDF that's going to be viewed on the iPad, you cannot rely on its "native resolution". Think about this: What if the original page size of this PDF is 5.5" x 8"? What if it is 20" x 32"? Which one will show the images "at their native resolution"?

  • I cannot open any PDF's in Internet Explorer

Starting just a few days ago, I can no longer open PDF files in Internet Explorer (IE 9). I'm not sure, but this could have started when I upgraded from Reader X 10.1.5 to 10.1.6.
I can open PDF's fine in Firefox 19.0, just not Internet Explorer. I have tried numerous suggestions that I found in this forum and elsewhere:
    Turned off popup blocker.
Changed the Internet option in Adobe Reader's preferences to both open PDF's in the browser and not to open the PDF in the browser. Neither option works.
Tried running Internet Explorer in Compatiilty View for the websites where I am trying to view the PDF files.
There was a suggestion to clear the Internet Explorer cache. I could not find that option (cache) under the Setting for IE. The closest thing I found was Temporary Internet Files, so I deleted them.
I uninstalled Adobe Reader and installed an earlier version (10.1.4).
I made sure that the plugin/extention 'Adobe PDF Helper' was enabled.
None of the above has helped. I'm just about out of ideas. The fact that I can still open PDF's using Firefox makes this less than an emergency, but I would really like to get this resolved.
I had some trouble searching this forum (Adobe Reader) thoroughly, so if there is another post out there that has some solutions (other than the 6 items I already tried) please fell free to post a link to it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I just thought I would add some information (albeit vague) on how I solved this problem. I had another computer (laptop) that was not experiencing this problem. I compared the IE settings on the laptop with the IE settings on my desktop and changed all the settings on the desktop to match the laptop. I then restarted IE on my desktop and was able to open PDF files! Since it was working for me, I didn't go back and try to figure out which of the changed settings led to the solution to the problem. If enough people on the forum request it, I will try to go back and isolate the pertinent settings.

  • PDF output from payment program (trancode F110)

We currently use 3rd party software to create PDF files of individual remittance advices from the payment run program, by passing the spool output print stream to this software, which recognises each different vendor remittance, and creates a separate file for each one.
Due to cost restrictions, we want to no longer use the external software and want to do this all within SAP.
I have looked at various functions available to create PDF output, and think CONVERT_OTF_2_PDF is the one to use, however, when I have tried a simple test of this FM, it creates one pdf file for the spool output, but we need to create separate PDF files for each different remittance advice, per vendor.
Can someone suggest a way that we can do this?
    Thanks,
    Michael.
    PS. I am an ABAPer.

    Hello,
Maybe you can start with Adobe forms in SAP, for printing the technology is free, it is quite an emerging one and there are plenty of tutorials. Maybe you can start from here: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c2567f2b-0b01-0010-b7b5-977cbf80665d and create your own customer forms.
Note there is SAP ADobe forms forum under NetWeaver and you can find me and other SAP Adobe people there.

  • Save As Image fails with PDF files

Using Acrobat X Pro, version 10.1.7. After the most recent update, I can no longer crop a PDF file and save it in any image format. The options are there, but when I select File > Save As > Image > PNG (or JPG or any other image format) and enter the filename/location, no new file is created.
This is about to become an emergency, since a big annual production project uses images from PDF files as illustrations in other documents.
    Any ideas?
    Elisa

I have had the same issue but with Acrobat 7 standard.  No error message is displayed however no file appears when trying to save a pdf as JPG  or other imgae formats.  Repairing and re-installing has not helped.  Did you make any progress with this issue?
Strangely if a different user logs onto the same machine they can do this with no problems.  I have tried to find something in the users profile which could be causing this but with no sucess.

  • Fill a pdf form with data using Java code

    Hi,
Modern formats of Acrobat ".pdf" files allows to define form fields.
    I have a datasource, let's say in a database.
I want to fill my ".pdf" with my database-stored data automatically, and want to write Java code for that.
    1. What is the best way to achieve this ?
    2. Is it necessary to install Acrobat Distiller server and if so what web services should I invoke ? Where is the doc ?
    3. Are there efficient Java libraries to do so ?
Thank you for helping... As ever, this is kind of an emergency case
    Have a good day.
    Phil

Take a look at the FDF Toolkit for Java:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/acrobat/fdftoolkit.html
That will allow you to, through Java, construct an FDF that contains all your form data.  You then add a reference to your "template" PDF file in the FDF as well and send the FDF to the client.  Acrobat will open the FDF, see the reference to the PDF, open the PDF and then merge any data contained in the FDF with the PDF.

  • Archiving pdf-document in external store ?

    hi there,
i have a projekt, where i have to archive pdf-files on a external archive (ixos). i use the FM 'ARCHIV_CREATE_SYNCHRON_META' to archive the pdf-files.
the big problem is the following: the name of the original pdf-file is not saved. there is only the document-id, which i got back from the archive-server. but in emergency-cases i have to restore all the pdf-files from the archive-server with the ORIGINAL pdf-name. this is important because the name is kind of a 'key' for finding documents in other, non-sap-systems !
    any ideas for that ?
    regards, Martin

    Hi Martin,
If you are getting back the document id then you can store that in custom table where you can store PDF file name and the object id. You will have the name of PDF when you use the FM to archive it.
So whenever you have to get back the file you can refer to the custom table to get the name.
    Best Regards,
    Chintamani

  • Exporting to PDF right hand text trunctation when using ForceLargerFonts.

    Hi,
We are using Crystal Reports Basic .NET 2008 SP0 (10.5.3700.0) under ASP.NET.  We have decided to use the PDF printing option instead of ActiveX which works fine except for the font sizing issues.  After reading a few articles we resolved the font sizing issue by implementing the registry key ForceLargerFonts.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\10.5\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF
    "ForceLargerFonts"=dword:00000001
This has solved the problem of font scaling, however a new problem emerged relating to truncation on the right-hand side of textboxes, especially when the fonts are extremely small and the textbox is large (appears that crystal can't calulate the wrapping correctly). As described in this article - [http://ourchiwai.blogspot.com/2009/03/crystal-report-xi-service-packs-5-solve.html|http://ourchiwai.blogspot.com/2009/03/crystal-report-xi-service-packs-5-solve.html]
We located an apparant fix in Crystal XI SP5 using these keys
    "UsePrecisePositioningForText"=dword:00000001
    "TruncationAdjustment"=dword:00000002
however I can't seem to see any reference for this fix in Crystal Basic 2008.  Does anyone know if this fix is available in the Crystal Basic 2008 .NET version?
    Thanks
    Glenn
