For Acrobat to convert a supported file format to PDF the authoring application (for the supported file format) must be installed.
As any given version of Acrobat is associated with a specified "band" of authoring application versions the Acrobat/Supported Applications version install is also important.

From the listing you'd note that with Acrobat X you could create PDF via PDFMaker for Office 2003 through Office 2010 only.

  • FF 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links, after clicking on "open pdf" error message says file not supported or damaged. IE opens file all right. Please advice.

Firefox 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links after clicking on "open pdf". I frequently need to do literature searches and I need to view pdf files in the browser. After clicking on the pdf - link of a file the main options are to open or download the pdf. Every time I try to open a pdf-file a blank page and an error message appears saying the file would not be supported or is damaged. IE, however, opens the file all right. I tried various changes in the security and cookie settings without success. Please advice.

    Hi SGckc,
This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.
    Thank you for contacting us!

  • InDesign 6: When exporting to PDF - error message fix a pixels/picas

InDesign 6: When exporting to PDF - get error message to go into Preferences and fix a pixels/picas issue - I've been working in the same project for two days and exporting pages all along without this trouble - just started all of a sudden.  Haven't changed any settings...  How can I fix this?

  • HELP!!  PLEASE!!  exporting pages to pdf error message

How do I export my pages 09 document to pdf?  I keep getting an error message
"The selected file or location (directory or drive) is read-only."
I haven't had this problem before and have an urgent deadline in 30 minutes when this happens.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Pattypepper,
You need to change the permissions on the folder you're trying to export it into.  Do this:
    1. Go to the folder in your finder
    2. Right click the folder and a window opens with different options to choose from.  Choose "Get Info"
    3. Another window opens with all the info about that file.  On the bottom, you will see 'sharing and permissions' with a list of names and permissions
    4. Choose your name and click the little up and down arrow until you see 'read and write'.  That's what you want in order to work on that folder.
If the problem wasn't the destination folder, then do the same thing for the actual document file.
Hope you got this in time for your (extended?) deadline!

  • Cursor jumping, PDF error message, software crashes

I'm using a MacBook Pro, which is only a few months old.
Often when I use my touch pad, my cursor jumps across the screen to one of the icons on the dock and opens it. How can I fix this?
I'm also having problems with some of my programs crashing. Is this likely to be an issue with the progam or with my computer?
Last question!... Since recently, suddently I'm getting an error message every time I try and save a PDF that's been downloaded from the internet. The message says "The document x.pdf could not be exported as x.pdf". Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You can't directly open a Pages  (or Word) document and Excel and, its equivelent  Macintosh program  in Acrobat. That's true. In OSX.5.8 and lower and 9.2 and lower you can go to print menu and choose AdobePDF and print a PDF. Or simply use the Mac's PDF button in Print menu. Or Most programs will allow you to save as Post script by going through the print menu click on PDF button and choose create Postscript from PDF (I know it sounds stupid but that what Apple has it listed as. ) Then Drop the PS File on Distiller. or open with distiller.
ON OSX.6.x (Snow Leopard) all bets are off.
you need to read this link.
Note: to make sure that everything goes smooth locate Automator select, do get info (Command key-I) and change from 64 bit to 32 bit. Its seems based on info from Acrobat the automator action for Create adobe quality PDF Automator action

  • Convert pagemaker file to PDF error message

I have a pagemaker file created in Pagemaker 7 which I own. I want to save it as a PDF file. when i select export and then Adobe PDF I get an error message : "cannot register Plug in. Please reinstall the plus in component" I have my PM7 disc.Does this mean I will have to reinstall the entie program?

It stinks that they stop supporting it.
The last version of PM was July 2001, all development stopped in 2004 and all support ceased in August 2010.
After InDesign (Pagemaker 8?) came on stream in around 2000, there were several years of heavily discounted upgrades for PM users.
So it's not as if it's just happened.

  • PDF error message "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired"

Across several versions (upgrades) of Mozilla and from
several sites I have a problem when viewing pages (ie.
from MoinMoin wikis but also other CMS systems) with
    embedded PDF documents.
I get an error dialog saying "The file is damaged and cannot be repaired" and a reference to a local cached copy of a
".tmp" file. If I right click on the link and "Save Link"
as a local file then the PDF views correctly (and it renders
correctly within the HTML page with other browsers such
    as IE).
The page below (bizarrely) works for me, but similar
documents fail on password protected sites.
    Any comments much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Photoshop CS6 - can't save as a PDF - error message

Hi - I am having problems saving a PDF in photoshop CS6.
There isn't an option to save as a PDF in the Save As function so I've been trying to do this through the Print Function.
When I get to the point where I press Save I get the following error messgae:
Any ideas why this is or how I can rectify this problem?!
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

Without exact system info, details about the document, PDF settings used and so on nobody can tell you much. There could be any number of reasons why you neither can save as PDF nor print to PDF, the most obvious being an unsuitable color mode or a wrong document size.

  • Getting print error messages after 8.1.3 update

Adobe Acrobat 8 - Since the 8.1.3 update a couple days ago, I am now getting print error messages in the Adobe PDF printer status box when I send any document to the Adobe PDF printer. The actual printing of the document in Adobe works correctly, but these error messages occur as well - even though the document printed just fine.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and did not have the issue prior to the 8.1.3 update.

I have removed PDFMaker from Office, to try to simplify the troubleshooting. All attempts to print end up the same, whether from PDFMaker (before I removed it from Office), from print to Adobe PDF from within an Office app, or using Create a PDF in AP 8.1.3 from an Office file ... the last hourglass comes up in "reading Adobe PDF" and stays up. I can see the "target file" created in WinExpl but greyed out, and the hourglass (busy) never goes away in AP 8.1.3.
In contrast, if I want to create a pdf from a "save as" text file, AP 8.1.3 creates the pdf instantly. Create a pdf from scanner also works fine. This problem is definitely related to updates, since AP 8.1 worked perfectly the last time I used it from Office, which was perhaps 2 months ago.
AP 8.1 suddenly stopped working this week with a "can't create PDF" error message, I updated AP all the way to 8.1.3, and have the problem described above. I don't get an error message now, the create PDF or print to PDF simply never completes.
BTW, both my desktop and notebook run Vista Ultimate 64-bit, both have registered and activated copies of AP 8.1.3, and Office 2007, and both have the exact same problem.
I uninstalled AP 8.1.3 on the desktop, installed the trial version of AP 9.0, and experienced the exact same problem as with AP 8.1.3, the create pdf never completes, but produces no error message.
I print to XPS as a workaround since print to Adobe PDF never completes.

  • Error message 'not a valid PDF document'

    Hi folks,
my Z10 has trouble opening some PDF documents sent as email attachment. When I try to open them the error message appears:
    Important message
The document cannot be opened because it is not a valid PDF document
There is no BES10 Service involved in my environment. Mails are synced with with active sync.
    OS Version: 10.2.0.429
    Any suggestion appreciated.
    Best regards,
    RAUMPATROUILLE

Stuffit is the only app I know of which can decompress its own format. Your Windows clients must use the free Expander to open them. Otherwise, use OS X's built in zip compression and they'll be able to open the files without the need of third party software. Right click on any item, or group of items and choose, "Compress xxx Items" (how it will read if more than one item is chosen).

  • Error message from a BAD PDF

I am using Adobe Reader to render PDF documents as a part of a process and then convert it into TIFF. Some of the documents that come in are corrupt PDF documents and cannot render itself in the reader and hence cannot be converted. This is the error that the reader throws:
ADobe reader could not open "test.PDF" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged(for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)
Now, the process is automated with no human intervention. with the advent of this error message, since there is a modal dialog box waiting for a response from the user, the process is interrupted and needs human intervention.
My question is simply this. Is there an API i could use where i can figure out beforehand if the PDF is bad so i can reject such files early on? research shows that using the adobe forms server which has the PDF utility services, there is a query "Is a PDF document" that is available. I do not want to use a server product.
Is there any other ADOBE product that exposes something similar?

I guess i forgot to add that piece of information. WE do not create the PDFs. We receive PDFs from external sources over which we have absolutely no control  and that explains why we get such corrupt documents in the first place. I was just wondering if there was a simple API event/method/means attached to any ADOBE product which is compatible with .net that tells me if the PDF is corrupt UPFRONT.

  • Error message: Missing PDF maker files in Word 2007

OK, I am beyond frustrated. I have had nothing but trouble with Windows Vista and Adobe Acrobat. Please help!!!
What happens: first, the pdf addin for Word 2007 suddenly becomes disabled, for no apparent reason. Forget about trying to re-enable it through the Add-Ins menu, because Word tells me that the "connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed". This is a problem for me, because I use a special font (Vietnamese) that sometimes gets corrupted when running pdf maker. The only consistent way I have found to avoid this problem is to run the pdf maker as "Quick PDF" and as far as I can see that option is only available through the pdf addin in Word, I have never been able to find it when I open the Acrobat program and create a pdf from there.
Second problem: shortly after the pdf addin becomes disabled, my Acrobat program loses the ability to create pdfs altogether. I get the error message "Missing PDF maker files". Yes, I have tried repairing the installation and re-starting my computer per the instructions given. It doesn't fix the problem. I also tried looking in the Knowledge Database on this website, but it appears that the instructions they have to fix the problem there are for earlier versions of Word, not 2007, because my version of word does not look like the version of Word in their little videos.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I resolved the problem by a) re-installing Acrobat, which is a pain because it involves calling Adobe and wading through their customer service to get a new installation number, and b) paying a computer repair service to dig deep into the guts of my computer and convince it to change the Office Add-ins to allow the pdf addin again. It worked for about 6 months, and now I have the same problem again. For some reason Vista is spontaneously disabling Acrobat.
I simply cannot deal with this every few months. We all know that Vista is a crappy program, but I run a business and I need a program that works with whatever crappy program Microsoft puts out. Please, can anyone give me suggestions about how to re-enable these functions when Vista disables them?
    Thanks in advance!
