PDF Export - How do I resample images for 25% print?

Using OSX 10.6 and CS3 504.
I've built 6x large format pages at 1885mm x 600mm that will be printed on an HP5500.  Content includes text, images, and objects with fills/strokes etc.  All images have been resampled in Photoshop to produce an effective resolution of around 150dpi for printing at full size.
My printer is going to do a test print for me, at 25% final size.  He has asked for images to be no less than 100dpi for 100% output.  He has asked for Generic CMYK so I'm using the PDFx1a2001 preset.
As recommended on here in a previous thread, I've placed each of 6x pages of the 100% PDF (75mb) into a new document and scaled each down to 25%.
I then export to PDFx1a2001 again, and the resulting PDF is 45mb.
My question is, how do I give him the most efficient file that will:
take ages to transfer to him
not be too large for him to process
give me good enough quality to see how things look.
Do I need to change the resample numbers in the PDF export dialog?  Or should this be OK?
Many thanks.

You can print the original PDF to a PostScript file at 25% and run it through Distiller if you have it. But I would just export a 100% file with images at 25 ppi and have the printer scale down when printing.

    I download itext for convert jsp to PDF. How to set content type for PDF. I try
    <%@ page contentType = "application/pdf;charset=TIS-620" %>
    , but the page does not PDF.
    Thank.

    PDF files are usually binary files, JSPs are not well-suited for binary content.
    (If you download the result of your JSP you'll see that it is not a valid PDF file; it will have probably a lot of whitespace and linefeeds, that will choke your PDF reader.). The first few characters must be
    "%PDF-" without whitespace.
    You can try using PDF files encoded as text - check if you can use text-encoded PDFs in iText.
    Try using a Servlet instead.

  • Transparency needed for Ai T-shirt logo - How do you do this for cmyk print?

    I have a logo created in Ai CS4 and it need to have a transparnt background (no white) because it will be printed on t-shirts, some not white, and a business card, but on other than white paper. What file format should I save this in for there to be both Transparency and in CMYK format for print?
    Is there a rule to remember when I want transparency AND I am going to print in CMYK?
    PNG seems to give the trans, but it says it is RGB color. Is this what I would have to send to a printer? Is this correct?
    In PS, it was fine to save with transp, but what is the best method, I am so very confused - Any experts out there?

    There is no need for raster "transparency" in order to "eliminate the white background" in a project desitined for CMYK printing. There is no white ink involved. There is no process color channel in a CMYK raster image.
    In other words, white in the Illustrator document (and white pixels in a CMYK raster image) do not mean "white"; they mean "no ink." So obviously, where no ink is printed, the color of the substrate (be it paper or textile) "shows through".
    For textile printing of process color, however, it is often necessary to create a separation plate for white ink, because CMYK process assumes translucent inks, which do not show up well on dark substrates. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to create a separate image that will be actually be printed with an opaque white ink; the CMYK process colors are then printed on top of that. But doing that involves deliberately setting up a spot color in Illustrator, and/or a separate channel in the raster image(s). A normal CMYK or RGB image, when color-separated, does not produce a spot white plate just because there are white pixels in the image.
    It's common-sense if you think about in physical terms. You have an image consisting mostly of blue and green. If you were to actually paint this on, say, a pastel yellow shirt, and did not want a white background, what would you do? You'd paint with some blue paint. You'd paint with some green paint.
    Or, think of it this way: Print the image to a white piece of paper in your desktop inkjet printer. What does the printer do? It prints little dots of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks. Does it print little dots of white ink if you instead insert a piece of colored paper? Of course not. The printer has no idea what color the paper is, and even if it did, it couldn't automagically generate white ink.
    Your post suggests you do not want a white background or underlay. If I were preparing that image for screen printing on textiles, I would not print it as CMYK process. I would make it a 2-channel image, and print it with an opaque blue and an opaque green ink. That would work for all but dark substrates. If you are printing this onto pastel substrates, it will likely work fine even if printed using CMYK process inks.

  • How to set TOC Image for "Import HTML articles"?

    For "Import HTML articles", I set TOC Image (70 x 70 px, PNG) on Folio Builder.
    But at Adobe Content Viewer on iPad, TOC Image doesn't appear.
    I confirmed on Dashboard, TOC Image for "Import HTML articles" appears correctly.

    According to the Page 56, 57, 61 of digitalpubsuite_help.pdf (Last updated 10/4/2011) ,
    "Change article properties" shows how to change TOC preview.
    I changed the TOC previews of some Stacks and the viewer table contents on iPad shows the TOC previews I expected.
    But for the HTML Stack (Import HTML article), the viewer table contents on iPad shows the thumbnail of HTML content (not the TOC previews).
    I confirmed on TOC Preview of Folio Builder and Dashboard of DPS,
    TOC preview for "Import HTML articles" appears correctly.
    What am I wrong?

  • How to change background image for each individual page in a template?

    I've been working for hours to try to figure out how to change the background image for each individual page in a template.  I have tried making a div in the body and adding a CSS and setting a background picture.  Unfortunately even after I made it editable all templated webpages changed.  I tried looking at different forum results which didn't really help me out. http://forums.adobe.com/message/2670005#2670005#2670005.  I've also tried embeding a CSS style on the webpage instead of the external CSS which again didn't work.  I'm not sure where to go from here.  Is there a good video that explains this clearly.  Please help.  Thanks.

  • How to Give an Image for Print and Not Web

    So, I have designed a logo for a web site and the site owner wants it for a business card and letterhead.  Saving an image for web is easy and I understand all that but how do I prepare a file for a printer?  I'm guessing this is just nipping in to the local print shop on the high street.
    Sorry for the basic question and I'd be as happy with a link to a tutorial as with the answer!
    Thanks
    Martin

    Saving an image for web is easy...
    ...Which is why your workflow is backward. Design for print first; repurpose for web. Not the other way 'round.
    Proper advice on preparing the artwork for press is dependent upon specifics of the artwork and the printing parameters. You haven't provided any specifics at all. So your question amounts to asking someone to write you a manual on how to prepare artwork for presswork in an online forum post.
    Do a Google search for "preparing artwork for offset printing" or some such.

  • How to import an image for my initials?

    I'm looking for help using digital signatures in PDF documents.  The setup is pretty simple and straight forward to import an image for my signature, I can't get that same option to show up for my initials.  My only choices are to type or draw initials.  Why would you want to go through the time and hassle to import a signature when you can't import the matching initials?  Am I missing something here?

    Ian
    Pages Grid method as asked:
    Construct one using the drawing/lines tool and the Graphic inspector to position multiple sets of lines that you repeat.
    Other people have done this already for you:
    http://www.printablepaper.net/preview/grid-portrait-a4-2mm-index
    http://www.mathsphere.co.uk/resources/MathSphereFreeGraphPaper.htm
    http://www.printfreegraphpaper.com/
    1. Create a Pages layout file, turn off the header and footer and documents layer
    2. Drag in the image you want to render as knit and size as you want. Turn off Text Wrap.
    3. Drag in the Grid pdf file and position over the image, make sure it is sized to 100% size in the Graphics inspector.
    4. Reduce the transparency of the grid or the image or both to taste. The grid should not have a white background anyway.
    There is another better way:
    Open the image in Preview App or any image editing program and change its size to the finished size you want, then change the resolution of the image to 5 pixels/cm. The image will then render as colored squares each 2mm which is what I think you really want so you can then work out the knitting pattern to reproduce it.
    In programs like Photoshop and Pixelmator you can even set the image to use a reduced palette of colors say 16 or so to make the squares a selection of the wool colors you will use.

  • How to pixelate an image for viewing from afar?

    Hi
    I need to pixelate an image for an outdoor poster site, so that when viewed up close it is very distorted and all the viewer can really make out are large squares; as the viewer moves away the image becomes clearer, so that from a distance the actual subject matter becomes clear. Something like the Marilyn Monroe artwork attached...
    I would appreciate any step by step advice on how I might do this?
    Thanks in advance guys.

    Hi,
    As mentioned above you can use the mosaic option.
    Here is a tutorial that can expand this subject that I found online.

    It is very simple with Photoshop and will help you lots!

    You can let the container's border draw the background image: caution: some will find this image disturbing.
    One nice thing about this solution is that you don't have to subclass any components.

  • Rotate .pdf file image for Plotter printing

    My .pdf file image size is 46.76" wide and 24.24" high.  I'm trying to rotate and print the image on an HP plotter such that the 24.24" height is printed across the available 34" width of the plotter roll and the 46.76" image width is printed along whatever length is required as the plotter paper comes off the roll.
    I've tried every combination of auto-rotate, custom paper sizes, etc. and the image always prints vertically (as displayed on the computer screen) - reducing/compressing the overall size of the printed result.
    The plotter is an HP DesignJet 1055CM - I'm using Acrobat Standard 10.1.5 on Win-XP/sp3

    Use what ever format you like, I perfer .tiff with LSW compression or .eps. If you don't know what you are doing just include the original image when you send you project to the printer and link the image in InDesign don't embedded it.  When you furnish the original image the prepress department can set it up correctly.
    I perfer 300 dpi with image is at 100% of the final size, if the image is printing 150 line screen when printed. 200 dpi is ok for 133 line screen.  I would even perfer a 100 dpi image over a .jpg image that has be over compressed.

  • How to exchange one image for another with a click

    I am brand new to actionscript, so bear with me! I need to create an interactive web-based system which takes the user through steps to assemble something. One of the pages will have images of the tools needed. I want the user to be able to 'tick' off each tool, so that when they click on the image of a specific tool it is replaced by the image faded out and a big red tick over it. essentially it is replacing one image for another when it is clicked on.
    any ideas on the actionscript? Sorry i know this must be basic stuff for you!
    thanks!

    your tool images should be converted to movieclips and given instance names and you should create a red tick movieclip that you assign a class, say RedTick.  you can then use:
    tool1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,toolClickF);
    function toolClickF(e:MouseEvent):void{
    var redtick:RedTick=new RedTick();
    addChild(redtick);
    redtick.x=e.currentTarget.x;
    redtick.y=e.currentTarget.y;
    e.currentTarget.alpha=.4;

  • I have "Load Images Automatically" disabled. How can I load images for ONLY the page I am currently viewing?

    I have intentionally disabled "Load Images Automatically" so that it is easier to view my desktop remotely via VNC or Remote Desktop. Animations and other graphics kill the performance of these remote viewing apps. However, when I reach a desired web page (the one I really intend to read in full), I want to load all the images ***for that page only***.

    I don't think Firefox has that features. It views loading images as a permissions issues toggled on a site-by-site basis rather than a performance issue toggled on a page-by-page basis.
    Maybe an add-on would give you a better balance of features? These two popped up in a quick search:
