PDF Export with Outlined Text, keeps non-outlined text box behind

I work with a printer that needs all text outlined and the file saved into a PDF.
Everytime I outlined my txt another box with non outlined text remains in the background.
I have to go through my document deleting the non outlined text boxes...seriously.
Anyone have a solution for this or have experienced anything similar?

I agree with the gentlemen above, but have on occasion been forced to outline fonts for printers as I have no authority to choose which printers my company works with.
Well put, Allison. I don't have any control over the printers used by my clients' clients, either. Or my clients' clients' clients. So occasionally the word comes back up the chain "All of the Arabic turned into question marks; please outline and resend."
Speaking of which: the cases in which live text is duped when converted to outlines, with one copy remaining live, are in my experience 1) when tables are used, and 2) when almost any Middle East version of InDesign is used. I think that maybe the leave-live-text-behind bug/feature has been fixed in ME edtions of CC but I'm not sure.

  • Aliased text on PDF export with blending modes

    So I've had this issue with a pdf, I tried to export it CMYK, RVB, interactive pdf, regular pdf, with tons of different other options, the text was still very aliased.
    I decided to take it back from scratch, openned a new document with the same size, and copied/pasted element after element from the old one to the new one, exporting as pdf between each copy/paste. The first exports went really well, the render was great… until I pasted a vector element that was applied with a blending mode (overlay).
    When I switched it to normal, the pdf export was smooth again. Tried every blending mode, everyone makes the text jaggy. Switch back, it's ok. So I'm 100% sure that this comes from blending modes, as opposed to what I could have read on other forums.
    This is a request, please, InDesign team, take care of this problem, this is quite annoying in many cases.
    Thank you for your attention!

    To minmize the possibility of rasterizing or outlining text when transparency is flattened, keep the text above any transparent objects. Blending modes, along with most effects, use transparency.
    You can also minimize the risk by exporting the PDF with live transparency, which is supported in Acrobat 5 or higher compatibility.

  • PDF export with russian characters

    I'm too having issues with Russian Character pdf export even after using latest jars from this site.
    I am using RAD embedded crystal reports. I design the report in RAD in Russian Characters, Font Tahoma Size 8. The report Looks fine on screen. But after I export to PDF using Crystal Reports java APIs, some characters look jumbled and displace their positions.
    It gets worse when I take a print out of the generated PDF. It shows some extra characters which are not present in report
    I have arranged for screen shots.
    Here is how the report looks in Crystal Reports editor in RAD:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/Kumar.R.Anand/RussianPDFExport#5312667851561871138
    It looks perfect here.
    Here is how the report looks after pdf export:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/Kumar.R.Anand/RussianPDFExport#5312667851826410162
    some Characters moved to left leaving their original position empty.
    here is how the pdf looks after a print:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/Kumar.R.Anand/RussianPDFExport#5312667853461427426
    See extra characters inserted by printer.
    Please help me solve this issue.

    There's "E"s in the first screen shot you have.
    The "E"''s in the printed output, on the third screen shot, appears to be shifted to the left by 1/2 inch from its original location (in comparison with the first screen shot).
    So my assumption is that this is a font glyph displacement issue.
    The last that I've encountered this issue was with TrueType fonts not entirely compatible with Java.  What happens if you look at the fontset using the Font2D sample app that comes with the Java SDK?
    Does this happen if you use a different font?
    Note that the old Crystal Designer in RAD uses ActiveX, so the comparison is not exact.
    My inference of font size difference is relative - differences between the non-bold and bold characters - how would the screenshot affect that?
    Sincerely,
    Ted ueda

  • Questions about PDF exporting with InDe CS5.5

    Hey all,
    A couple questions about exporting to PDF from the latest version of InDe.
    First, I have noticed that it seems to take a lot longer to get to a PDF. Any suggestions for how to speed up the process? It took 8 minutes or so to generate a low-res PDF (for print) of a 24pp document with a few placed images and vector graphics. Wow, that's a long time to wait, especially for a proof.
    Second, the background task... if I get it going on making that 8-minute PDF and then work some more on the document, what exactly is in the PDF? Usually I save before making a PDF or printing. So, is the last version saved what will be in the PDF?
    (As an aside, this ability to work on the doc while generating a PDF seems kind of weird. Generally one makes a PDF for proofing, or even for printing, when all the changes have been made and everything is "final". So, I see no benefit to being able to work on my document while it's making a PDF, as I'm probably finished making revisions for the time being. I have to say that I kind of like the progress bar you get when you make an interactive PDF, as you know you can't work on the document when that's on the screen... )
    Thanks as always.

    Yes, this is abnormally long (and too long), something is wrong. What's the full version of InDesign you are running, as reported by holding down Cmd or Control and selecting About InDesign?
    Second, the background task... if I get it going on making that 8-minute PDF and then work some more on the document, what exactly is in the PDF? Usually I save before making a PDF or printing. So, is the last version saved what will be in the PDF?
    Saving is not related. InDesign makes a database snapshot of your document the moment you begin the PDF export, and makes the export relative to that snapshot, regardless of edits you continue to make during the export process, and regardless of saving. Of course saving first is a good idea, for several reasons, not the least of which it sounds like something's fairly seriously wrong with your document or your InDesign installation.
    We recommend you trash your preferences and export your document to IDML and see if either of those things changes this 8-minute behavior...err, assuming you're running 7.5.2.318.

    Yeah, I think the primary benefit is if you are likely to work on 2 or more files in parallel, so you can finish A and export A and then switch to B. If you'd like a dialog box to pop up when export is done, check out my exportPop script from this post: ANN: automatic dialog after background export (exportPop.jsx.

  • Illustrator cs6: pdf export with hks colours creates b/w pdf...

    hello forum,
    i have a illu cs6 document with 2 hks colours and black. with »save as...« i want to create a printable pdf. but this pdf only has black-and-white, no hks, no colours.
    then i changed the hks to cmyk. now the export as pdf works with the cmyk colours.
    help, please, whats wrong?
    thanks :-)

    Try using the PDF/x-4 preset. If an all CMYK PDF is required, set the Color Conversion to Convert to Destination, and the Destination to Document CMYK.

  • Framemaker 9 PDF exports with red boxes around text areas

    I have a doc, made in FM 7, using version 9
    When I make a PDF i get boxes around some of the text. It wasn't there during FM design.
    example
    (see red)
    Please help

    you might consider saving the FM file as MIF and then looking at the MIF using the wonderful freebie MIFBrowser, from Graham Wideman, from here:

    to find the problem area do a search for the string that is in the title
    "Downblast Centrifugal
    Exhaust Ventilator
    Roof Mounted
    Belt Drive"
    although just pasting it here it looks like you might have soft carriage returns in it which will make it necessary to just search for the two-word segments.
    After you find the phrase, use the left navigation area to walk "up" the MIF file, looking for the specific structure that those words are in (is it a text box, or rather a graphic frame inside a text box, correct?) Is this an anchored frame, or is it just floating? If it's anchored, where is it anchored?
    In the MIF, see if you can identify any odd sounding properties of the text box or graphic frame. The MIF reference manual is a PDF found in the FM documentation folder.
    Also, one other possibility is that there's something funky with the red swash that goes across the page that's somehow "contaminating" the text frame. What kind of graphic type is the red swash? Could you take a copy of the FM file and remove the swash and then make a PDF, to see if that solves the red outline.
    edit: additional questions: are the swash and the text frame on the body page or on the master page? When Arnis suggested checking for graphics behind the text frame, did you also check the master page(s) as well as the body pages?

    I made another pdf, after deleting the red bar (it's a eps.) and the reb boxes are still there
            I'm not using any master.
    Thanks for the advice anyhow

  • PDF export to word not working, conversion shows text as code.

    I am working with Adobe acrobat pro, and cannot seem to export my PDf file without the text resulting in incomprehensible code. The images in the PDf convert beautifully, however.
    I have followed the directions listed on the website, and have enable ORC, but it has not helped.
    PDF file info:
    PDF Producer: Mac OSX 10/9.5 Quartz PDFContext
    PDF Version: 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)
    File size: 1.29 MB
    Tagged PDF: No
    Fast Web View: No
    Security: None
    xmpCore properties: xmp:Creator Tool: Microsoft word
    Illustrator: StartupProfile: Print

    Could you post the PDF or a page of it so that we can try it. I actually still have AA5 on one machine, though everything else is more current. If you can also post your DOC result it would help too. You can post on Acrobat.com or dropbox and leave the link here.

  • RGB CMYK PDF EXPORT.(colour conversion)  Keeping your colours vibrant and your blacks black.

    Ive been tearing my hair out for the best part of 14 hours trying to figure out how to keep the closest possible conversion for working with images(rgb in photoshop) right the way through a work flow until exporting to print (having used the image in Indesign).  Here is the process I have been trying to get right.
    1) working with RGB photo images in photoshop and converting them to CMYK (whilst holding on to as much colour as poss)
    2) Importing them to Indesign and retaining the correct colours while working with them)
    3) Exporting to high quality print and having all your colours stay 100% the same as you saw them within indesign.
    I believe I have the solution so I posted my settings below to see if its the best way of doing things and to help others who might be having the same problems.
    The problem
    The problem is that there are many different colour models/profiles (both in RGB and CMYK) and each program can effect how the next one handles and stores colour.  It can become frustrating knowing where to go in order to set the settings correctly  as the combination of things to consider can make it confusing.
    I understand many other people have similar problems and finding RGB blacks come out as grey.  CMYK spaces get converted from one type to another either from one program to the next or even as things move around one program (causing all sorts of wonderful,colour errors)  Plus you have imported colour profiles, working colour profiles and export profiles.  All of which can interact and effect each other) So getting it all consistent is key other wise colours change and get washed out.   Especially vibrant colours like greens and blues. they fade etc.
    Through sheer trial and error and perciverance I found a combination of settings that worked well for me.
    Since I am not an expert I wanted to post up my settings to:
    1) see if this is the best way of doing things.
    2) Other people may find them useful if they had the same problems I had,
    The Solution
    In photoshop
    Save the photoshop image in CMYK by selecting:
    Edit > Convert to prfile.
    (in destination space)
    select: Euroscale Coated v2   (I think this holds the colours the truest of all CMYK colour formats.)
    (in conversion options)
      - Engine: Adobe ACE
      - Intent: Perceptual.
      - Check Use black point Compensation.
    (leave all else unchecked)
    Save the image ready to place in indesign (place rather than copy and paste.).
    In Indesign
    edit > colour settings   (make sure you click on the advanced tick box to open more options)
      - Working space: =
      - RGB:  sRGB IEC....
      - CMYK Euroscale coated v2
      - RGB & CMYK convert to working space.
      - Engine Adobe ACE
      - Perceptual
      - Use black point compensation
    edit > Assign profiles
      - RGB profile. > Assign current workspace: sRGB IE
      - CMYK > Assign current work space Euroscale Coated V2
      - Solid colour intent : preceptual
      - Default image intent
      - After blending intent:  Perceptual.
    edit > convert to profile.  (use similar as above).
    edit > Preferences > Apprearance of black
      - on screen / export : Display all blacks as enriched black
      - Priniting and export : Display all blacks as enriched black
    Overprint: (not checked)
    ------ when exporting to PDF ----------
    File > Export
    in GENERAL TAB
      - Adobe PDF preset: High quality print.
      - Standard (drop down menu): PDF/X-42008
      - Compatability: Acrobat 5 PDF1:4
    in OUTPUT
      - COlour conversion: Convert to destination
      - Destination:  Working CMYK Euroscale Coated v2
    in PDF/X
      - Output intent profile name: Working CMYK - Euroscale Coated v2
    also:
    If you are having problems with fill blacks not coming out as proper black then use registration instead of black from the swatch panel.
    The above may seem either obvious to most of you or possibly not the best way of doing things but since the results worked for me and I found them tough to arrive at, it may be of use to others hence my post.
    I would like your feedback on this process, have I done something wrong / could do better?  If so please let me know.  I am keen to improve.

    I would copy and paste into InDesign forum. Text should stay 100% black. Any other black (like solid boxes or thick lines), I usually use a rich black swatch I created at 40/40/40/100. Looks 10 times better than just 100% black.

  • PDF exporting with thin black lines around some images

    Hi there,
    I have spent A LOT of time making a custom SAVE THE DATE card and I cannot find a solution to this problem. When I am working in the document, I do not see thin borders around any of the images but when I export to PDF they show up. I have NO BORDERS selected for all images in the document and cannot figure out why they keep showing up after export.
    I have attached a screen grab of what the document looks like when I am working on it, and another one of what it looks like after export. I am using Pages 5.2.2 and OS X version 10.9.5
    I need to order these SAVE THE DATES by tomorrow to take advantage of the 60% off! Thanks so much for your help!

    I am seeing this same problem in a family newsletter I've created.  The lines do not show up in Pages, but when I export to pdf (or print to pdf), the lines appear.  When I print the document, no lines appear.
    Here's what the top of the newsletter looks like - the black lines show up on all the pages, and in the beige-covered overlay, crosshatching is visible.   The template I'm using was in existence two years ago, but doesn't seem to exist in Pages anymore.  Would that have anything to do with the lines showing up?
    I also found this link, but can't apply any of the suggested fixes, since they apply to Adobe:  <http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/thin-white-dark-lines-stitching.html>.

  • PDF export with link to document defaulting to "Open a web link" instead of "Open a file"

    I have a MS Access database and I'm trying to export reports to PDF (I have Acrobat XI Pro) that include a hyperlink to another document on the same drive on my computer.  I have tested this with hyperlinked email addresses, and emails export fine to PDF and are still functional, opening a new email in Outlook.  The hyperlinks to documents work fine in MS Access, opening a Word, PDF, or other document when clicked.
    When I export to PDF, the links to documents say, "This document is trying to connect to: file:" and my filepath.  If I say "Allow," the link tries to open in my default web browser, which comes up blank.  I've tested this on other computers in our office too.  When I right-click the link, I have the option to "Open weblink as a new document" -- this opens the document successfully, but won't be very helpful or fast for our staff.  When I examine the link with Tools - Add or Edit Link, I see that the link's action defaulted to "Open a web link" when the PDF was created.  This seems like it should be "Open a file."  To see if "Open a file" would work in theory, I tried creating a test button in a blank PDF and made the "mouse up" action "Open a file" and linked to various documents on my computer.  Each time, the button does not react to being clicked at all, like nothing happened.
    I also tried making a basic Word doc with just the hyperlink to another document.  It works fine in Word, but, when saved as a PDF, the hyperlink does the same behavior-- tries to connect to the web instead of opening the file on the computer.
    I have a lot of experience building Acrobat PDF forms and working in Acrobat, and I'm almost certain I've created links that open another file on the computer in Acrobat before, but I'm out of ideas and an internet search isn't turning up much.  I welcome any suggestions for things to try.  Thank you!

    This is what I currently have, and it attempts to open in a web browser.  Do you know of a setting in Acrobat I might need to change, or any other solution to tell Acrobat to open the "file:" URL as a document, not try to start the web browser?

  • PDF export with security settings

    Using JavaScript to export PDFs.  Export works fine.  Security in the PDF is not working.
    ID CS5.5
    This is the snippet of code I'm using to apply settings to the PDF:
    with(app.pdfExportPreferences){
    cropMarks = false;
    registrationMarks = false;
    acrobatCompatibility = AcrobatCompatibility.acrobat5;
    colorBitmapCompression = BitmapCompression.autoCompression;
    colorBitmapQuality = CompressionQuality.low;
    colorBitmapSampling = Sampling.bicubicDownsample;
    colorBitmapSamplingDPI = 100;
    compressionType = PDFCompressionType.compressObjects;
    compressTextAndLineArt = true;
    cropImagesToFrames = true;
    grayscaleBitmapCompression = BitmapCompression.autoCompression;
    grayscaleBitmapquality = CompressionQuality.low;
    grayscaleBitmapSampling = Sampling.bicubicDownsample;
    grayscaleBitmapSamplingDPI = 100;
    monochromeBitmapCompression = MonoBitmapCompression.ccit4;
    monochromeBitmapSampling = Sampling.bicubicDownsample;
    monchromeBitmapSamplingDPI = 300;
    optimizePDF = true;
    subsetFontsBelow = 100;
    useSecurity = true;
    viewPDF=true;
    disallowPrinting=false;
    disallowCopying=true;
    disallowChanging=true;
    openDocumentPassword = "password"
    changeSecurityPassword = "password"
    Most (if not all) of these settings are working with the exception of the security settings.
    disallowPrinting=false;
    disallowCopying=true;
    disallowChanging=true;
    openDocumentPassword = "dj2575!!"
    changeSecurityPassword = "dj2575!!"
    Am I missing something in the code?
    Thank you for any input.

    @Mike – yes.
    Your with() statement seems to obscure some problems, i think.
    I'd do the following:
    //1. Set useSecurity to false (default)
    app.pdfExportPreferences.useSecurity = false;
    //Get a list of property/value pairs to see what's enabled or what's not possible in the current state of the app:
    var myObject = app.pdfExportPreferences;
    for(x in myObject){
        try{
        $.writeln(x +"\t"+myObject[x]);
        }catch(e){$.writeln(x+"\t"+e.message);};
    Then enable useSecurity and run the for x in pdfExportPreferences again:
    app.pdfExportPreferences.useSecurity = true;
    var myObject = app.pdfExportPreferences;
    for(x in myObject){
        try{
        $.writeln(x +"\t"+myObject[x]);
        }catch(e){$.writeln(x+"\t"+e.message);};
    That should clear the view…

  • [JS][CS4]PDF Export With RegExp Doesn't Include First Zero-Please Help

    This is a script we put together with the help of Jongware, Shonkyin and Kaysan a while back...

    my_suffix = Number(my_suffix);
    for(var myCounter = 0; myCounter < myDocument.pages.length; myCounter++){

    app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.interactWithAll;

            alert("No documents are open. Please open a document and try again.");
            exit();
    alert("Finished exporting");
    The problem is, I never considered pages 0 through 99. The script works perfect for 138-140 TEST 10_WORKER.indd. It creates PDFs named:
    MyTest_138.pdf
    MyTest_139.pd
    MyTest_140.pdf
    If the document name is 098-100 TEST 10_WORKER.indd, It creates PDFs named:
    MyTest_98.pdf -  should be MyTest_098.pdf
    MyTest_99.pdf -  should be MyTest_099.pdf
    MyTest_100.pdf - This is perferct
    And of course, the double 0s, 008-010 TEST 10_WORKER.indd
    MyTest_8.pdf -  should be MyTest_008.pdf
    MyTest_9.pdf -  should be MyTest_009.pdf
    MyTest_10.pdf -  should be MyTest_010.pdf
    Why doesn't it use the first 0(s) in the name? 0 is a digit and every RegEx tester I've checked it with includes the zero.
    Any assistance with getting this script to use the leading zero if there is one would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, if there is a way to export each PDF from a multipage document which doesn't start with a number, it would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks in advance
    Danny

    The zeros aren't there because they never were there. Your loop starts at 0 and that could be a page number. To pad your page numbers to three-digit numbers, replace this line:
    myFilePath = myFolder + "/" + "MyTest_" + (my_suffix + myCounter) + ".pdf";
    with this one:
    myFilePath = myFolder + "/" + "MyTest_" + (my_suffix + pad(myCounter)) + ".pdf";
    and add the following function somewhere at the end of your script:
    function pad (n) {
        return ("00000"+n).slice(-3);

  • Sp3 and pdf export with diadem

    Dear all;
    We use Diadem 11 with windows XP SP2, and we use the functions PDF and Html Export . After upgrading from pack 2 to windows xp pack 3 we could no longer use these functions. We now the recieve error message : Access Violation r The printer is not ready ...
    We repaired DiAdem, and checked if the pdf printer converter exists and it is there .
    Any ideas !!!

    That might or might not work. Let's try closing ID again, log in withthe old user, then delet the files, if they exist, inthe list you'll find at Adobe Forums: InDesign crashes at startup
    Your user library is hidden in 10.8, so if yo don't kow how to show those files, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion
    Now restart ID using the Keyboard shortcut to remove the prefs (hold down Cmd + Control + Shift + Opt keys as soon as you launch ID and choose Yes when asked if you want to replace the prefs. If you don't see the confirmation message, you weren't fast enough, so you need to try again).

  • PDF export with bookmarks (CR XI R2)

    Hello,
    Crystal Reports XI R2 supports exporting of PDFs with bookmarks (based on the group tree). How can this feature be accessed via .Net or COM? I can't find a associated property of the export-object.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    I thought COM and .NET objects might be similar. I am surprised that I can not find the option at the RDC_SDK:
    http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2/en/en/RDC_SDK/rdc_com_dg_doc/doc/rdcsdk_com_doc/RDC_ObjectModel62.html#1327316
    I need a excel driven solution so i guess there is no way to use .NET in macros- isn't it?
    So, how can I access "CreateBookmarksFromGroupTree" from COM?
    (this topic can be moved to COM..)

  • PDF export with menus auto open

    Is there a way to export a PDF for a client so that when they click on your PDF, a certain PDF menu opens automatically with it (like the 3D model tree)?
    Or the layers fly out side menu?
    Or to have certain tools open across the top?
    Thanks friends,

    Hey TyCatt,
    Adobe Acrobat has been designed in a manner where all the tools and buttons are customized to perform certain functionalities when selected.
    So, please tell me what exact menu do you want to appear automatically?
    What version of Acrobat are you using?
    Let me know more on the same, please.
    Regards,
    Anubha
