Some files arrive as winmail.dat and I cannot open them, even though they had been sent as PDF? Any ideas how to fix this?

The best option is to have Outlook & Exchange users edit their settings...

  • RTF Word files arrive as Winmail.dat files and cannot be opened

Hi, I currently have a Bold 9900 and some emails arrive with attachment winmial.dat.  It was send originally as a Word file.  I understand that if sent as html or some other format it will arrive fine - but I cannot ask the senders to swithc the format sent.  Why can;t BB open this file.  Willing to buy app that would fix this.  My main question is - if I upgarde to the new Classic - will the problems continue.  I have asked Blackberry and they told me - the Classic will not have that problem, but I have noticed other CClassic users claim to have same problem.  any help would be apprciated.  tks Pete

only outlook program can open it
most likely you got it from a device that is on exchange and their mail server is still set to send out RTF

  • How do you prepare a PDF file for 4 signatures & dates?

How do you prepare a PDF file for 4 signatures & dates?

    Hi,
You can achieve this by using text tags. EchoSign Text Tags are specially formatted text that can be placed anywhere within the content of your
document specifying the location, size, type of fields such as signature and initial fields, check boxes, radio buttons and form fields, and advanced optional field processing rules. Text Tags can also be used as names of PDF Form fields.
Text Tags are converted into EchoSign form fields when the document is sent for signature or uploaded to the EchoSign Document Library. EchoSign Text Tags can be placed in any document type such as PDF, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and text files (.txt, .rtf)
Please refer to page 5 ( date) and 10 (signature) of the Creating Adobe Echosign Forms With Text Tags. The document can be found here

The first time i opened the mail, the mail loaded the attactment as pdf file and i was able to open it without any problems. But then when i tried to open it again, i watched the phone automatically turned the pdf file into winmail.dat without any of my control. Since then, i werent able to open the file anymore! And this was lucky that i was able to see it as pdf file - all other attachments i have recieved since using my new ip6 all turn into winmail.dat
this is really incovinient and frustrating for work. i cant believe i cannot just open a pdf file as a pdf file on my ip6 in the emails i recieve. I was on ip4 before this and never have anything like this happened.
    Solution needed asap please.
    Thankyou!

    Hi Jnkm,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your new iPhone 6. If you are getting a winmail.dat file instead of a PDF, you may want to see if it may be the issue noted in the following article:

  • PDF Submit button creates winmail.dat issue...

    Hi all,
I am attempting to create a fillable form (PDF) which includes a submit button, which on clicking attaches itself to an e-mail (Outlook 2013), populates the recipients, subject and body text.  I have created the document (using a submit form button) and it works perfectly apart from one very large problem... when sent within our company the e-mail is quarantined!
Having spoken to messaging team it appears that this is due to a winmail.dat file.
I am hoping someone can provide some assistance, is the winmail.bat file created by InDesign, or by Acrobat, and is there a way to bypass this/other method to avoid the problem?
    Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks

I don't think this file is created by Indesign, Acrobat or any other Adobe software.
I found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278061 on searching.
As it state "Outlook uses it when sending a Rich Text-formatted message. During transport, the content of the message may be changed, preventing the receiving client from being able to read the formatting instructions. In other cases, the receiving client does not use or recognize the winmail.dat file."
I would suggest you follow the suggestion in the link above and then check, if it helps.

  • .PDF coming in as Winmail.DAT

Anyone know why all of a sudden friends sending me PDF's get converted to WINMAIL.DAT.  I can't open them, what can I check?

Mac OS X Mail: What is a winmail.dat attachment?
The attachment means the email was sent from a Microsoft email application (such as Outlook and the Microsoft Exchange Client) and includes rich text information--how fonts, colors and specialized attributes such as underlining or boldface should appear in the email (the attachment doesn't appear in Outlook but does appear in Mail; it may appear in other email applications as a MIME section named "application/ms-tnef")
    Avoiding these attachments
To avoid seeing these attachments in the future, you ask the sender to deselect the email's "Send to this recipient in Microsoft rich text format" checkbox or preference setting in mail client before they send the message.

  • Pdf file stored as BLOB data type on Oracle

I store PDF file as BLOB data type on Oracle. There are cases
where I get multiple records from the database, that means I get
multiple PDF files. They have to be merged and displayed on the web
page. I tried CFContent which can display only one PDF file at a
time but not more than one, whereas cfdocument is having problem
converting binary data to string. I am kind of stuck.
Can you anybody please help me out? Please let me know if you
have any questions or this does not make sense to you.

if by "merge" you mean 3 pdf into 1 pdf, try cfpdf (if on
    cf8) or see this
thread if cf version less than 8:

  • How to create pdf file based on emp data

    Hi,
I have a table called employee having emp_no, emp_name, basic.
I need to generate a pdf file of each individual employee for payslip purpose.
    For e.x 10000.pdf, 100001.pdf (empno.pdf)
Each pdf file will have the payslip data of each employee like emp code, emp name, basic, DOJ etc....
Pls help how to create this thru pl/sql.
    Thanks in advance.
    Nazar(Dubai)

    Hi Nazar,
If you need to do this frequently for a lot of users I would recommend to consider PLPDF (http://www.plpdf.com). You can download a trial version which is restricted to 5 pages of PDF + watermark but it will allow you to test whether it does what you want to achieve.
    Thanks,
    Erik

  • Automatically renaming pdf files based on excel data

I am creating pdf certificates using variable data from excel files with InDesign.  This creates a multipage pdf file with a different persons name on each page.  Then end result needs to be individual pdf files named for each person.  I can extract the single pages out of the main pdf ending up with however many files all named the same thing besides a number at the end of the common file name.  Question:  Is there a automated process of renaming the individual files using the data from the excel file?

You're looking for a PDF Parser or PDF miner tool (PDFminer) as a starting framework, and you'll almost certainly be writing custom code around that as parsing a text file that's effectively free-form and originating from multiple different sources almost always (always?) involves writing customized processing code and an on-going series of tweaks as the suppliers of the PDF change their ticket formats.  (Even apparently-simple details such as the time and date formats, for instance, can vary by geography and language and by supplier, and can derail common processing.)
In some cases that I can envision, it'd be entirely possible that the data you're after is actually located in an embedded image and not in text that can be parsed.
The best approach is to get folks to send you JSON or XML or some other format intended for interchange, and avoid the whole mess that is parsing or mining a printer-oriented format.
The other obvious option is to use something like Amazon's Mechanical Turk or some other explicitly outsourced help.  Depending on how often the formats change and how many of these PDF files you're dealing with and how varied the formats are, sometimes throwing staff at the problem can be the most cost-effective approach.

  • What Apple app is required to open .pdf files arriving by e-mail?

Attachments to e-mails are frequently in .pdf format. I'm unable to open them in Pages, iPhoto or Keynote. Help would be appreciated.

Double clicking the file icon should automatically launch the default application (Preview) and open the file. If you have Adobe reader installed, PDF files created with Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Distiller may default to Reader as the application to open them. Either way, it takes only a double-click on the icon to open the file.
And... Single page PDFs will usually be displayed in Mail itself (as well as in other email clients).

  • Mailed PDF files arrive on Windows platform as corrupt Windows Media files

Recently I mailed some .pdf files to 3 of the Windows machines on our network. Each of them reported that when attempting to open the .pdf file on the Windows machine, their system tried to use Windows Media instead of Adobe Reader. Of course they received an error message. When they saved the .pdf files on their machines, the files opened correctly in Adobe Reader.
These are files that I downloaded from the State of Oregon. After we had problems there, I mailed them some of the .pdf files I had created. Same results. The Windows machine treats them as corrupt Windows Media files.
I am the only Mac in our company. Of course the problem must be mine!?!
I am using MS Entourage as my mail client.
    Suggestions? Comments? Answers?
    Thanks!!

    Kappy,
No problem! Your suggestions were what made me consider the extension option in Entourage's preferences. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
Your suggestion also prompted me to try the same thing using Mail. Mail worked just fine, so the problem is in how Entourage handles the .pdf file being sent to a Windows computer where it will be opened either in Outlook or Internet Explorer.
It seems that Somewhere along the line, the .pdf extension is being changed to a .png extension which triggers the launch of Windows Media Browser.
I just rebuilt the Entourage database and I'll see what happens now.

  • How to create pdf files with text field data

how to create pdf files with text field data

That looks like it should work, but it doesn't.
I opened the PDF I had created from Word in Acrobat (X Pro). Went to File > Properties. Selected "Change Settings". I then enabled "Restrict editing...", set a password, set "Printing Allowed" to "none", "Changes Allowed" to "none", and ensured that "Enable copying of text..." was disabled.
I saved the PDF file, closed Acrobat, opened the PDF in Reader, and I was still able to select text and graphical objects.
I reopened the PDF in Acrobat, and the document summart still shows everything as allowed. When I click on "show details" (from File > Properties) it shows the correct settings.
    Any ideas?

  • Winmail.dat

Why are my attachements only recently coming in as winmail.dat? I have never had issues opening word, pdf or excel docs on iphone or ipad in the past. I have the doc 2 go app as well so I don't know why suddenly they don't open??

    Bvjed et al.
My wife has just had this issue and after digging around I found what was causing HER issue.
    Situation:
Some email recipients were receiving a .pdf file as a winmail.dat file but this was not everyone and only affected those on iPad/iPhone that could not receive/interpret RTF formatted emails. Anyone opening the email on a Windows PC (and I haven't tested on Mac or other devices such as Android etc) would see the .pdf attachment and it would open normally.
    Analysis:
There are plenty of advise/recommendations saying that .pdf files attached to emails formatted in RTF format may not be able to be received if the receiving client cannot handle RTF. HOWEVER, it is important to understand HOW emails are converted/formatted in RTF by Outlook (various versions). One method that most users have checked is the Mail Format setting within each email as either HTML, Rich Text or Plain Text. The other method that is much less obvious is the setting at each email address level and you can check this by right-clicking on the recipient's email address and selecting Outlook Properties. Assuming you do not have the person's contact details in a contact record, it will show a small Email Properties window. Note the last field called Internet Format and if it states "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format" then that recipient would be unable to open .pdf attachments that you send them if they are using an IOS mobile device.
    Solution:
Change this value to "Let Outlook decide the best sending format" and send the email & attachment again.
This explains why some people found the solution to be deleting the entry from their Outlook Contacts - it someone reinstated the format option to the "Send using Outlook Rich Text Format" for future emails. How that happens is for someone else to determine! ;-)
Please like this if it helps you.
    Cheers
    Mark
