PDF file being blocked by Firewall

I have 3 PDF files our of thousands that are being blocked by my companies firewall. None of the others are being blocked. We have re-created these files on different machines, with different names and still noluck. Outside our firewall they can be downloaded.
Has anyone run into this before?

It's not an Adobe problem, it's something with your firewall configuration - and therefore not something we can help with here. Most enterprise-level firewall software has some kind of log to say why it blocked a file (i.e. which rule triggered).

  • Since a recent Firefox upgrade, I have a section of one of my online banking sites that will no longer open....says it is being blocked by Firewall. Wasn't a problem before I upgraded a few days ago.

One of my online banking sites runs contests to win cash from time to time to encourage use of the site. Prior to a recent upgrade of Firefox, I had no problem opening the necessary pages. I am now being told that those particular sites are being blocked by my Firewall. The area in question is basically a "flag" you click on to guess which of three "umbrellas" you want to open for a chance to win money. These flags are located in various parts of the online banking site; i.e., make a payment, transfers, summary, etc.

I can only guess because I've never seen such a message...
Does it help if you completely turn off Firefox's pop-up window blocker?

You might want to check with the bank's tech support in case they've run into this before.

  • Images in PDF file being converted into Word elements (e.g. tables and text boxes)

A friend of mine has recently signed up to ExportPDF so that he can convert PDF format wiring diagrams into Word format.  On trying this the other day, we found that the wiring diagrams in the PDF file were being converted into elements of Word such as tables and text boxes.
Is there any way to get the diagrams converted into pictures within the Word document so that they can be copied and pasted into other documents?  From looking at the limited settings panel to the right of the document in Reader I can't see it.

Perhaps an application dedicated to converting PDF's to Word documents may get better results.

  • Edge Inspect works great except localhost pages being blocked by firewall

    Hi,
I switch the Windows 7 firewall off and the localhost pages show up on the Edge Inspect app on the iphone4, so then I tried to re-configure the firewall, namely allow Edge Inspect, Bonjour, and Mobile Device related rules all allowed, but the localhost pages are still being blocked.
Any help with how to re-configure the Windows firewall for much more Edge Inspecting would be appreciated!
    Kind Regards,
    Andy

    Hi saumishr,
I have placed the following rules both inbound and outbound to allow both Edge Inspect and Bonjour to use 7682 for all domains using the TCP protocol. (Is that the correct protocol?)
After applying these rules though the firewall still blocks Edge Inspect.
    I appreaciate your help. Thankyou

  • How do I avoid websites hanging on load due to elements being blocked by firewall

I am currently in China. As you may know China employs a pretty nasty firewall to keep discussion of sensitive topics at bay. The problem is many western based websites have been blocked by this ie. Facebook and Twitter. I don't normally visit these sites, however many sites employ elements that rely on content from these blocked sites, so when I'm loading a website, it tries to load data from a link to Twitter for example, but it fails to continue loading the rest of the data from the actual site that I'm visiting while this happens (because the twitter data is blocked). Is there anyway to make it so Firefox skips over these blocked elements, or make it so the rest of the page loads up with the other elements are still timing out?
== URL of affected sites ==
    http

I haven't used elements in 6-7years so apologies if I miss the mark.
Am assuming videomerge merges the layers down to simplify timeline (akin to nesting?! in Pr) as haven't come across this before. Either way you probs shouldn't need to do so - put each video in a separate layer and crop and move as you have done and render and should come out great as one video file (no need to then video merge).
If you do insist on video merge, move the central big size video to the bottom layer with the 4 small ones to layers above. Then when you merge down the side videos won't get obscurred
Or use garbage matts - look in effects and should be there. Drag and drop on each clip and move cornersto selct area you want to keep just as you would for a crop. See if that sorts your problem out.
Re Premiere Pro. Great piece of software but more complicated so might not suit your needs (though may do) but not cheap (even with edu discount) if not using it for your job (check creative cloud subscription cost). Worth checking out DaVinci Resolve 11 if you want pro software (which is now free as a result of buyout)- mostly for colouring but also has editor. If you do start making decent money on Youtube (though for all I know you could be! :-) ) and want to get into some complex editing and feel limited by Elements, then definitely get pro - you won't regret it at that stage in your editing.
Finally, your screenshots genuinely look very impressive, I like the split view and nice to see people pay attention to lighting - I think lighting and sound are just soooo important (more so than what camera and lens) and far too often overlooked.

  • Wi-Fi sync being blocked by firewall

I figured out why my iPod couldn't do wifi sync and that was because my AVG firewall was blocking it. I turn it off and it is shown in iTunes. I turn it on and it is disconnected. I'd like to know how I can configure my AVG firewall to allow the iPod to use wifi sync. Please help.

Same problem here (iPhone & iPad). Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!

  • Unable to generate PDF file from reports

    Hi,
After running the report when I tried to generate the output to pdf file, I see the number of pages being generated again, I dont see any file being created although it prompts for the file name. Any suggestions
    Thanks in Advance

I dont see any output pdf file being generated, I have seen in all the folders and when I click the Generate to File option, it prompts me for the file name and the path for the file and then the report runs again on the screen instead of generating the file.

  • Maximum PDF file size for browsers to cache?

My site distributes daily newsletters via PDF that are typically about 2MB in size. A link is provided to the PDF, and when clicked, it opens the Adobe Reader plugin within the browser (Firefox, IE) and opens the file therein.
Recently it was brought to my attention by a dialup user (they do still exist) that when he navigates back or forward in his browser's history, the PDF has to be redownloaded rather than reloaded from his browser's cache. I, with a broadband connection and some wonderful Firefox extensions (Firefox Throttle and Live HTTP Headers) confirmed this behavior.
However, a similarly sized file (2MB) of a different type (text) is cached by the browser and I can go back and forth in the history without the file having to be redownloaded. I also had success with a smaller sized PDF (70kb).
What appears to happen is this:
    1) Click the link to the 2MB PDF, and it loads in the browser.
    2) Click browser's back button to back to previous page in browser history.
    3) Click forward button to return to PDF.
    4) A request with a "Range: <byte range>" header is sent which I think requests part of the PDF file (the byte ranges).
    5) The server responds with a "206 Partial Content" response code and resends some/most/all of the PDF to the browser.
What should happen (and does with other file types and smaller sized PDFs) is that the browser should make a simple request for the PDF file, and assuming the PDF hasn't been modified since the latest request for it, the server should send a "304 Not Modified" response code which instructs the browser to use what it has in cache.
I've increased my browser cache sizes dramatically to no avail. Cleared them before starting the process to no avail. Should be no problem with any browser's cache limit.
I'm using Firefox 2 and IE7. My co-worker has IE6 and Acrobat Reader 6 installed on another machine and it works fine there (PDF is cached and does not need to be redownloaded).
Help! Why aren't these larger PDF files being cached correctly, and what can we do to get them saved in the cache so our poor dialup users don't have to redownload them everytime they navigate their browser history?
    Thanks!

Just wanted to reply with my discovery and fix. I'm not sure if it is Adobe Reader or the web browsers (I tested Firefox 2 and IE7), but they appear to request parts of large PDF files "on demand." That is, they send requests to the web server with a "Range: <byte range(s)>" header which instructs the web server to only send segments of the file. I think they use the feature of HTTP 1.1 that keeps the connection open or alive to request/send the data incrementally.<br /><br />While this might seem preferrable, in the case of dialup users that navigate through their browser(s) history, they should instead download the PDF in its entirety and allow the browser to cache the file. This way, when they click the link to open the PDF again (or go back/forward in their browser's history), they use what they have in their cache instead of redownloading the PDF (which in the case of dialup users is quite painful).<br /><br />We fixed the problem by instructing our web server to ignore/disregard byte range requests. In a nutshell, you need to have the web server issue a header:<br /><br />Accept-Ranges: none<br /><br />In Apache, you can do this on a per-file-type basis using a FilesMatch directive. In IIS (we're using 5.0), you cannot specify a file type for this behavior; you have to set it in Internet Services Manager by adding a custom header under the "HTTP Headers" tab.<br /><br />Personally, I prefer folks use their browser cache than repeatedly request data (PDF file in this case) from our server. To each his own I guess. Hope this helps someone.

  • Why can't I export PDF files?

I'm trying to create a new library from several smaller libraries and have come across a problem where PDF files aren't included in my library export (File-Library-Export library). The music and video files on the other hand are all intact.
Trying to troubleshoot the issue I created a playlist with just the PDF files which I then tried to export (File-Library-Export playlist), saving as XML, which (when viewed in TextEdit) revealed that none of the PDF files were shown. Next I tried to add a single MP3 file in that playlist, did a new playlist export and viewed the XML file in TextEdit. This time I was able to see an entry for the MP3 file, but again nothing for all the PDF files.
I've also tried changing the Media kind (File-Get info, then choose the "Options" tab) between "Book" and "Music". Upon a second inspection ("Get info") it appears nothing was changed, but apparently something changes as the PDF files appear either in the "Music" or the "Books" library section. But unfortunately changing the media kind doesn't solve the problem of PDF files being un-exportable.
So is this a bug or perhaps even a copy protection scheme preventing copying of ebooks? (note: all my PDF files have been made by myself, so this is not copyrighted/purchased material)
    iTunes 9.2.1, Powerbook G4, MacOSX 10.4.11

    Some things you could try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Viewing PDF files in IE with pop-up windows

I have a web page (see attached) that loads a PDF file in an iframe and also launches a pop-up window in the onload event (via javascript) and then closes that window in the onunload event.  If I go from one page that does this to another, or I reload that page the PDF does not display - I just get a blank iframe.  This problem does not occur in any version of Adobe Reader begore 9.0 - but appears to happen consistently on multiple machines running Adobe 9.0 or above.  If I don't close the window in the onunload event it works fine.  Has anyone experienced anything similar - is there any fix for this?
Please try the attached sample: Load the page (view the pdf) then click on the "Refresh this page" link and see what happens - the PDF file should disapear.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.
    Thanks,
    Ami

This sample is just for demonstration purposes - so it might not make a lot of sense to do, but we have a live web site that has a need to pop-up additional details for the PDF file being viewed and we run into this problem where the first PDF works, but when you move from one to the next, the PDF does not display in Adobe 9.  If you are running Adobe 9 and you click on the refresh this page link you should get an error or a blank area where the PDF would normally display.

  • Indesign-generated .pdf files won't print

I realize this question is vague to the point of being unanswerable, but here I go anyway.
Our department's publication person sent me a number of chapters of our book in progress so that I could print an uncorrected proof to show to our funding source. She emailed me .pdf files generated by InDesign CS2, probably, although it might have been CS3.
She also emailed me the indesign file for the frontmatter because I had some things to add, so the .pdf for that I generated myself.
I took everything to a local printer we regularly use. To print this job he was using a large commercial Canon setup I think. None of the .pdfs would print on it. He ended up having to print them all as images for the purposes of creating a proof for me.
Now, I printed all of them myself on our networked postscript printer, both from a Mac and a Windows machine, no problem.
Since the files had been emailed to me, and then to him, we thought maybe they got corrupted, so I brought them over on a disk, but that didn't help, not even the one file whose .pdf I generated myself would print.
So is this an issue that has come up--indesign-generated .pdf files being unprintable on a commercial printer but printable on a postscript machine.

    Dov and Al,
Yes, I'm sorry, I do realize that this isn't enough to diagnose a problem. I was hoping that this might be something that has come up before and someone would recognize.
As far as I could tell, he was opening up the print jobs in Acrobat and sending them to his printer, which had its own job monitor. When he consulted that monitor he just said, no, it won't print.
He's a smart guy and I've done a number of jobs with him that were generated in indesign, so I'm really at a loss to explain what has gone wrong with this one.

  • Mailed PDF files arrive on Windows platform as corrupt Windows Media files

Recently I mailed some .pdf files to 3 of the Windows machines on our network. Each of them reported that when attempting to open the .pdf file on the Windows machine, their system tried to use Windows Media instead of Adobe Reader. Of course they received an error message. When they saved the .pdf files on their machines, the files opened correctly in Adobe Reader.
These are files that I downloaded from the State of Oregon. After we had problems there, I mailed them some of the .pdf files I had created. Same results. The Windows machine treats them as corrupt Windows Media files.
I am the only Mac in our company. Of course the problem must be mine!?!
I am using MS Entourage as my mail client.
    Suggestions? Comments? Answers?
    Thanks!!

    Kappy,
No problem! Your suggestions were what made me consider the extension option in Entourage's preferences. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
Your suggestion also prompted me to try the same thing using Mail. Mail worked just fine, so the problem is in how Entourage handles the .pdf file being sent to a Windows computer where it will be opened either in Outlook or Internet Explorer.
It seems that Somewhere along the line, the .pdf extension is being changed to a .png extension which triggers the launch of Windows Media Browser.
I just rebuilt the Entourage database and I'll see what happens now.

  • Reader X stops working after closing PDF file

We have a small problem on our businesscompany with Reader X.
When a user opens up a PDF file (windows XP sp3) it opens ok and everything seems to be fine. After reading the user closes it. But when a user wants to open up a new PDF file, nothing happens. We have to open up the taskmanager and have to close a few AcroRD32.exe tasks and after that it works again.
We have to delete a registry key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader to let it work again, but a few days later the problem is back.
We have a huge company (2000+ users and 10000 students) and the probem is getting bigger and bigger. First there were a few people, but it is growing rapidly. So i hope you can help us. Most users (98%) dont have Acrobat Pro on it. Also no traces of old versions.
    Anyone has an idea?

    Good day,
Couple of questions that may help us in finding a solution for you:
What is the exact version of Reader you have installed?
Does the issue occur when users with administrative rights are logged into the computer?
    Did this just start happening?
How long has this behavior been occuring?
Are these PDF files being opened through a browser window? If so, what browser?
Does the process hang every time or is this issue intermittant?
Can you check a few of the documents your users are opening?  Specifically, choose File > Document Properties and share both the PDF Producer and PDF Version.
