PDF file dropping letters

I have encountered a problem with some PDF files dropping a letter thru the entire document. Some documents it is an "a" and other is an "o".
In one case the document is complete in Preview than drops the letter ion printing.
Any help[ would be appreciated

got the answer from the genius bar. Preview does not play well with some PDF file, Solution was to make Adobe Reader the reader for all PDF files. This has worked on all of my problem files

Preview PDF files drop letters when printed.

I have a problem with PDF's printing without lower-case letter o's and upper-case X's. This is both to my Brother Laser Printer AND my HP C309.
It may be Mac software at a low level, because when I print a PDF to Yojimbo, the lower-case o's and upper-case X's are also missing. There may be others, but those are the two letters I noticed.
The screen displays are OK and PDF's generated to Yojimbo from Safari are OK.
The same downloaded PDF file that dropped the o's and X's print OK when opened with Acrobat Reader.
Is this a Preview problem? I'm running Preview Version 5.0.3 (504.1).

Thanks for the pointers. I did find some duplicates with Font Book and deleted them. I don't have any duplicates between the System and User fonts and have not installed Office X. I do have Office 98 installed under Fusion.
As I mentioned, the PDF files print fine with Acrobat Reader. This is a very recent error. I have a long list of PDF files saved to Yojimbo and none have any dropped letters until yesterday.

Why is my PDF file dropping letters in the body of the form?

I received a pdf form (application) which when opened in the email is fine. Once I have saved it, however, then reopen it, the application as dropped letters in the words of the text in the body of the application. (The word First shows up as irst). (Date shows up as te, etc) How can I correct this? I want to be able to save the application as a template for future customers.

Letters and numbers are being deleted when I import a PDF file to my catalogue

I have a business catalogue that I change from time to time. I will make the changes in MS Word 2003 and then convert the document to a PDF file. I will then import the PDF file to my catalogue. Recently when I have impurted the PDF file I have noticed that letters on pages above the inserted PDF file and letters below the inserted PDF file will be missing. I recently updated my Acrobat Reader from 8.0 to 9.0, so maybe that is an issue.

How are you converting the documents to PDF ? Are you using Acrobat, if so, which version of Acrobat?
Also, what exactly do you mean when you "import the PDF file into my catalog". Which software are you importing the PDF into?

Applescript to drop pdf files onto preflight droplet

Hi, is it possible to write an Applescript to use in an Automator Folder Action which would push pdf files dropped into the folder to a preflight droplet?

well, maybe this isn't as obvious as I think it is, but you need to replace the word droplet with the actual name of the preflight droplet. And you either need to do it as an automator folder action or make it a normal folder action, using a folder action handler like below and storing the script in the proper folder actions folder:
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
tell application "<droplet name>"
open these_items
end tell
end adding folder items to
That should work, but you haven't told me anything about the droplet itself. if the droplet won't handle even basic applescripting you may need to rephrase like so:
tell application "Finder"
open these_items using application "<droplet name>"
end tell

Printing pdf files in xcelsius drop-down

I have a series of .pdf files that are associated to Drop-down selectors in an Xcelsius 2008 dashboard. Is there a way to allow the user to print a pdf file based on a selection in a drop down. Or, worse case, offer a static drop down box to be populated with selections (pdf titles) to be printed?

Have you tried passing the PDF File name to a cell and using the Print Button to print that cell value?

checked out automatically.
I want the files to be checked-in automatically once they are dragged and Dropped.
Please note : I am able to do the above things with .doc (world files) but not with the
.pdf files.

Hi,
I found the problem(Not the solution).
I have set the default values from Column default value settings,
the default values are getting set to the columns but the file still in checked-out mode.
If I put the defult values to Library columns directly/Site column directly , Its working fine. - We found this work-around.
But still the issue Exists why its not working when I set Default values from Column default value settings
and try to drag and drop documents. :-(

I created a Content Organizer rule like this:
When uploading a .pdf file to the Drop Off library, it is moved to the destination library immediately:
I suggest you create a similar rule as above for another test to see if the issue still persists.

Saving a Word document to pdf - dropping letters when printed

I have a client that is saving a document created in Microsoft Word 2007 as a PDF file. After saving the PDF file they are distributing the PDF to their staff as well as users outside of the office. When the PDF file is printed the printed copy is missing a combination of letters, such as "ie" or "ti" or "li" etc. The user herself has printed the PDF file from both her work PC and her home PC with the same results.
Adobe Reader 9 (v9.3.0.148) in a terminal server environment (Windows Server 2008SP2)
Microsoft Office 2007 all updates installed.
Anyone have any ideas, I have tried most of the fixes that I found from others but noting that keeps permanently.

Not Reader causing it. It's how the PDF was created. Your samples are all what are called ligatures and the font information for those ligatures are not being embedded in the PDF when it is created. You would need to ask Microsoft how to do that if you are using their product to create the PDF.

Just adding more info - MacBookPro running 10.5.8 and using Safari as the browser. The problem comes and goes - sometimes the linked Word files will open OK, n others its just a strring of crazy characters...

How can Hebrew letters in a pdf file be reproduced with Hebrew as a word doc using adobe export pdf?

I subscribe to Adobe Export PDF and it has worked well. Today I uploaded a PDF file with Hebrew letters and the downloaded Word doc did not format the Hebrew letters as Hebrew letters. Is there a way around this?

Dropping in PDF files into iDVD? How?

I have a client who would like to put some PDF files as well as video into a DVD I am making for here. What is the best way to throw some PDF's in? I would like a button that would point to those.

Hi Tom,
You can include .pdf files (and any other kinds of files) in the DVD-ROM area of a DVD. Look under the Advanced menu for Edit DVD-ROM Contents. These won't display on a TV, but are accessible by a computer. To inform the viewer about this content, I mention it on the DVD jacket, and create a sub-menu that briefly describes what's in the DVD-ROM area. I suppose you could take a screenshot of the pdf and drop it into the background area of the sub-menu to give the TV viewer a small taste of what's in the computer-accessible area.

How to make greek letters copiable in pdf files?

Ctrl-C will not copy the greek letters in the following pdf file. For example, if I select Lambda, then type ctrl-C, and ctrl-V to somewhere, I will get nothing pasted. Is there a way to modify the pdf so that greek letters can be copied? Thanks.

From the instructions I read, you have to have more than the tfm file. I think the vf file is the font file. That is not the actual font file. They would help you for working with the font on your system, but would not do the other aspect you wanted of helping others. As I indicated, the font has to be installed locally to enable proper copying. The fonts files are not copied from the PDF.
Since my original question can not be solved unless I get the font installed in my system (but I can't). Let me change my question a bit.

This is probably due to fonts not be embedded in the pdf or too many different font subsets. If it is the former issue, you need to contact the creator of the pdf and have them embed the fonts. You cannot do it, since if you had the fonts on your system, it would ok. If it is related to font subsets you could try to unembed all fonts in the pdf using the PDF Optimizer, then re-embed the fonts using the Preflight tool.
