PDF File "explodes" after applying Redactions

I have a few pdf files which had some parts which should not appear in the final version.
So I used "Search and redact" to find those parts and marked them for redaction.
So far, so good, but as soon as I apply the redactions and save the files, they become approximately 2.5 times bigger then before.
So I guess Acrobat had to rasterize some parts in order to redact.
Is there a nice way to reduce the file size again?

Does doing a File > Save As > Reduced Size have any affect?

  • PDF file size after merging

I use Preview to merge PDF files. I have noticed that the resulting files are a lot larger than the sum of the single PDFs. An example: I have 3 files with the following file sizes: 70 KB, 120 KB, 1.3 MB. The resulting PDF after merging those files in one is over 5 MB.
Does anyone know why this is the case and how I can avoid it?
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Tobias

Yes, I also have this problem.
Several PDFs with a combined size of ~13 MB, when merged are over 40 MB, making it unsendable by e-mail.
    Very annoying!
This results from using Preview's "drag and drop" onto the sidebar to merge PDFs. DOn't know why.

Can Acrobat create PDF files that once downloaded - can't be opened after some preset time (48 hours)?

    Hi Edward lkeda,
I am not very sure of that however as per my knowledge , you can use Adobe send service and provide public link to your users and then after 48 hrs you can delete the file from server and make File-link inaccessible.
    Hope that helps,
Please revert back for any further query. I will try my best to help you with your problem.

  • Firefox repeatedly asks me what to do with PDF files, even after I tell it to use Adobe Reader to open them.

For some reason, Firefox repeatedly asks me what to do with certain PDF files (but not all) even after I have indicated that I want it to use Adobe Reader X to open them and checked the "always use this application" box. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps on the Firefox support website to no avail. However, unlike what is shown in the troubleshooting section, when I go into Tools/Applications/Preferences, I do not see a listing for "Adobe Acrobat Document." Instead, there is a listing for "pdf file," which opens with "Adobe Reader"--no "(default)" or "(in Firefox)" appended.

  • New Acrobat Pro installed and EVERY PDF file crashes after about 10 seconds. Any Solutions?

I just purchased and installed Acrobat Pro v. 10.1.2 and it seemed to install fine ,but now EVERY ODF crashes after about 10 seconds. Also, I get the Windows "please wait while Windows Configures Acrobat" message every time I launch Acrobat. Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

    Good day,
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble.
    Could you try the following:
Launch Acrobat, but do not open a PDF file.
Choose Edit > Preferences.  Click on 'Internet' on the left-hand side.
    Uncheck 'Display PDF in Browser'
Relaunch Acrobat - do you still get the 'Please wait while Windows configures Acrobat' message?
If that message has stopped coming up, please try opening a PDF file.  Does Acrobat still crash?
Do you have any other versions of Acrobat or Adobe Reader installed on this computer?
What version of Windows do you have installed?  What version of Internet Explorer is installed?
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Writing PDF files - Crashes after a certain point

    Post Author: virtitel
    CA Forum: .NET
I have a 2003 .NET project that iterates through a recordset to write pdf files out into personalized directories.
The process works fine on my work computer but on my laptop, it crashes after about 110 reports written (out of up to 900).
I crashes on the export. What gives? Is there a resource limit of some kind? I can't find anything on it.
Would LOVE some help with this.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Have you tried using the preloader? My guess as to what is happening is that perhaps things are simply taking some time to load up. I suppose you might somewhat confirm that by trying the playback again. If my suspicions are correct, you should see that they either play fully the second time through with no issues or that they play longer than they did on the previous try without pausing.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why unable to sign PDF with certificate after applying Nitro PDF password protection? (despite it explicitly allowing signing with certificates)

I used Adobe Reader XI to sign PDFs with certificate, which worked perfectly. Except that the PDF could still be edited by other programs (for example, Nitro PDF) after the signing (but not the fill out fields and the signature). To apply password protection makes sense to avoid changes in the PDF being made after it has been signed. So I applied password protection via Nitro PDF that allows only enter fill-out fields and signing. But when I open it with Adobe Reader, the filling out works fine, but the signing part is not available to click on it (all of the buttons under "Sign" tab are grey). When I go on the Security properties with Adobe Reader, I can explicitly see that signing of this PDF is allowed and yet the option is not open to use for me anymore.
Any ideas on why it is the case and what I could do about that?
    Many thanks!
    O.

Actually yes, I just asked my colleague to assist me with this, he password-protected the PDF with Acrobat 8, explicitly allowing for signing and fill-out functions, it also appears in Adobe Reader under security properties as "allowed", but it is not open to use in the Reader for me anymore (grey buttons).

  • Save PDF file automatically after generation

    Hello,
I have a Print only PDF Form(for a Quotation) in WebDynpro, that runs for 20-22 pages at runtime. Now it takes a lot of time(sometimes around 5-7 minutes) to generate as its dynamic form .
The user doesn't wants to wait for so long and wants that the PDF should be automatically saved upon generation and he can continue his work.
We have to do this in WebDynpro since the backend is 4.70
I know its possible to save the PDF file from WebDynpro to a filesystem. But that is possible only after generation of WebDynpro.
Is there any way to automatically save the PDF file after its generated.
Is there ny method that is executed after the PDF is generated and before displaying the same.
Is this possible as a background task, like in ABAP it can write to a SPOOL.
Any inputs, source code examples will be helpful.
    Regards,
    Shubham

    Hi Shubham,
You can use PDFObject in your code for the same.
Check 32 number tutorial for use of PDFObject in webdynpro.

  • PDF files disappeared after upgrade to Win7

Copied folder with XLS, DOC, PPT and PDF files to a shared server.  Upgraded workstation to Win7. Copied folder to new Win7 workstation. All the Office files are there, but none of the PDF files. Help! Tried to ReIndex, no change. Why would just the PDF files disappear?

yes, but hopefully you deactivated your previously installed adobe programs.
if so, you can install your upgrade programs using your original serial numbers and activate your programs.
if you cannot activate your new installs (becaues you failed to deactivate your previously installed programs), you'll need to contact support.
i've found the help via chat is easy-to-use and quick.

  • Reducing File Size After Applying Digital Signature

I have a dynamic  form created in Live Cycle Designer ES 8.2, reader extended in Acrobat Pro 9.4 and being filled in and signed in Reader 9.4.  The form has  multiple (10+) digital signature fields.  In some cases, images (jpeg, tiff) are inserted into the form before it is circulated for signatures.  Everytime a signature is applied, the file size grows based on the size of the images that have been attached as it seems to be embedding a signed version of the form each time a signature is applied.  After a few signatures are applied, the file size can grow to be quite large.  Is there a way to prevent it from doing this everytime a signature is applied so that the file can be kept to a more manageable size?

Go into the importing tab, and set the options to Mp3 at a lower bitrate, then go to your song and choose Convert to Mp3 - it will then create another copy at a lower bitrate - leaving the high quality original - you can then burn the smaller one to your CD - it shouldn't take long to convert.

  • Save the pdf file in after report trigger

    Hi friends,
How can I save the report PDF result file in table from after report triger?
I am using Oracle report 10g. So is it possible to do that.
    thanks

You can install the pluggable database destination from OTN.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/reports/pluginxchange/index.html
After deploying it on the reports server you can print the PDF to a BLOB column of a table in the database.
An other "older" option is described over here:

  • Can I switch off the Save As default after applying redactions and just save

I am using a Document Management system - I open the document to apply the redactions using Acrobat XI Pro, but then would like to save the pdf (instead of it defaulting to Save As which prompts me to save another version outside the DMS) - as the document management system creates its own rendition to publish to the website.

  • Pdf file larger after distilling

Have a 6 mg file and saved as a ps. When running through distiller at the smallest file size it ends up being 24 mgs. What is the deal????

What do you mean after distilling. Was it a PS, PDF, or other file. I have no idea what a 6 mg file is (WORD, or what?). You should simply print to the Adobe PDF printer from your application. You can select the smallest file size Job Options, but be aware that it will leave a lot of things out and possibly cause problems with others viewing your PDF.

  • PDF Files Size after Scan

I have a Canon MX892 (made for personal use) all in one printer in my home, when I scanned a 21 page document it turned out to be 14 meg in size.  I scanned this same document from my office which has Konica C54 all in one printer (made for business use) and the file size was 6 meg.
Is there any way that I can reduce the size of files that I scan at home?  I have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and tried saving it "optimized" and it only reduced the file from 14 meg to 13 meg.
I would appreciate any advice you might have.

    Hi gold154,
You might also try Acrobat XI Pro's specific feature for optimizing scanned documents. This often reduces the file size on my scanned files.
